My buddy had a dealer equipped model s400 that I eventually bought from him that had piggyback works shocks from the dealer. It was JUST an option if people wanted to spend the money. They were far superior and the ultimate reason they started putting them on the 05 on all machines.
Subframes and steering stems were different throughout the years as well. Carburetors were all so different on the later models. Frames were reinforced better with much better welding.
@@TheATVHustle as far as first-generation goes, the subframe bolt into the mainframes differently. Also, I believe the 03 the grab bar was part of the subframe. The steering stem on the 07 and 08 were an inch shorter. I'm not positive of this but many mechanics have told me, the 03 cylinder head and exhaust Port was different. Many claimed that the 03 model engine actually put out the most torque and horsepower. Not sure of that but, I have owned and ridden every model of LTZ made! The later years of the LTZ seem to be more sluggish in their power compared to the 03 model. Probably because the 03 was the lightest of all the LTZ models
Am looking to do a ltz plastic swap for my 04 dvx400 due to not being able to find any for a dvx. I Want to know what parts I will need and if theres any tricks or tips for it. Thanks
Aside from the plastic, you will need the seat and headlight. It's been so long since i messed with a DVX I can't remember if the fender mounting brackets are the same or not. You will also need the headlight harness.
This is the bracket I used but when I bought it I was able to find just the bracket for $25 or so. The light bar was a cheap $20 12" single row from eBay.
Can you run these quads without a throttle positioning sensor? I bought a new carburetor on eBay but it has a cap and no bolt holes where the tps goes. It’s an old quad that sat for 15 years and I don’t really want to spend a couple hundred bucks on a new carb if I can test the machine with a cheap Chinese carb
I am pretty sure they will but you would have to have LTZ or KFX mounting brackets. I have not confirmed this. It would also need the LTZ headlight and seat.
I have 06 DVX 400 I'm in the process of cutting the plastics right on the back of the fuel tank. Easy place to install the bracket for plastics, much easier for removal when you need to get the plastics off.
If my LTZ400 2003 I’m Iooking for upper and lower a arms say out of stock for k2003 but for k4k5k6 I’ve seen the part in stock will I be able to use the part on 03 ltz400 ?
The part numbers show them as different although I'm not sure what is the difference. I'm almost positive one of my uppers and one lower came off a 05 I parted out. IF you buy aftermarket they still sell as 03-08.
That really depends on what you are going to use it for, the 400 will be more reliable but cost more to get more power. The 450 does require more maintenance. I prefer the 400 for trails, of all the 450s i have rode weren't as much fun. Personal preference and riding style is really what it comes down to
Great vid currently in the market for one of these quads sounds like it’s best to get an 05 or up with these models the only other model I’m interested in is the Honda trx400 in your opinion what model has a better quality in terms of reliability and easier to maintain
The biggest thing that makes a difference on 05 and up is the front shocks. Which mine is a 03 and I put the 05 + shocks on it. It is around $300 for a used set. It is really hard to beat the 400EX as well. If it came down to budget i would say which ever machine is nicer, in better shape and is the best deal. If there is no budget the LTZ with the 05+ suspension rides much better than the 400ex. The 400EX parts are a little cheaper is you break something. It's really hard to say which is better since i wanted a 400EX but ended up with my LTZ.

Those 03/04 pogo shocks are terrible, pretty much anything is better 😂
Hola maestro es normal que se enciendan los ventiladores a cada rato yo aparte también boy dandole caña
It is not normal to run at all times. If it is then it is likely the previous owner bypassed the temperature switch.
What are those shocks called ?
The OEM Resivoir shocks that come on the 2005+ models.
Hey man wondering what brand seat cover that is? Thanks
That is the enjoy brand seat cover. They are around 50-60$ on eBay or Amazon.

I knew I was forgetting something since I have the updated subframe on my ltz, I did not know that the stems were different.

what light bar kit is that on the ltz?

Would ltz 400 plastics fit on a dvx 400?

Do you think a 2011 engine will work with a 2006 chassis?
It won’t be a direct bolt in, that engine is fuel injected and has different crankcases.
What brand and size of light bar do you have on that?
It’s a 12” cheap eBay one, it was like $15 is I remember right
Can you use an 03 axle in an 04 swingarm/carrier??
Yes the axle is the same, just a different carrier.
Are these hard to get parts for? Thinking about buying one.
I wouldn’t say they’re hard to get parts for, but they don’t have as much aftermarket support as some of the other brands like the 400ex

i hate to put it like this, are they worth owning? or should i just buy a 450?

Ty! It's going to be for trail riding. Trading a klr650 for a really clean 06 kfx400
@@CLP2102 it will be fun for sure!
I love my ltz and dvx personally like my dvx more even tho like you said there basically the same atv
Yea that dvx seat is a bit different than the ltz, definitely a comfy seat.
@@TheATVHustle definitely agree with you on the seats 💯
Picking up an ltz on Thursday. Something to boot around on with the wife and the kids
Awesome! I hope the machine worked out, my kids don't like to ride with me anymore. " Daddy you go to fast. "
Is a 04 dvx known for having those swing arm cracks
Yes it has the same swingarm.
