One of my fav seasons. Vecepia, Kathy, Sean, Tammy, Neleh, and John are all personal favs. Vecepia’s win is so underrated, and I especially love her journal strategy that came in handy at Final 4. Great podcast. Jess’s opinions are extremely accurate. Slay queen. 👑
This was super cool to listen after finishing marqueses the other day! I am now 1/10th the way through the survivor seasons! I watched 40 live, then 6, 7, and now 4 recently as well as 41 episodes as they air.
Marquesas is my favourite Season! Having such complex and legendary characters like Vecepia, Shaun, Gina, Rob M. and Kathy all on the same season should be celebrated!
1:02:55 Their whole discussion and especially Rob’s statement that hopefully having more black people on the show would change the perspective that black people would just automatically want to work together really got shot down almost immediately.
I LOVE Jess and the strong opinions she brings to the table for these videos! I think it's so valuable hearing people who are firm in their thoughts on things! I very much enjoyed hearing her thoughts on a truly underrated season!
I think the problem with the food challenges is how we think of the world 'Delicacies' but how we use it. Often time in Food, Delicacies often describe unique food to that area that was enjoyed by the poor. Best Example of Delicacies in the US can include; Biscuits and Gravy, PBJ, Grits, our Iced Tea/Sweet Tea, and Bologna just to name a few
Just finished this season! Much better than I expected actually. I loved how they were able to flip it around at final 9, seeing people draw rocks for the first time was interesting, seeing Boston Rob for the first time was cool(but definitely not the unneccesary comments towards and about John those were very uncalled for), Sean was a standout character that I didn’t expect making it as far as he did but I was happy he did, and overall so much more interesting stuff going on overall. I didn’t like some of the pretty bitter jury questions, and I did hear that they really were pushing Vecepia’s faith on the show near the end even though there was a lot more to her game and strategy than just that but in an effort to make her see contradictory as she also did lie. Also wow it is so cool to see the first African American winner occur on Survivor before even Danielle Reyes almost won and just after Monica got 3rd place in big brother. It is insane hownit took 20 more years on big brother to happen. I also liked how they showed Vecepia and Sean dicussing what it meant for them to be the only black people on the show in different confessionals and such. Also it was great to just see the final 9 with 7 original rotu and Sean and V and V end up going onto win the game, thats just such a cool storyline since it looks soooo set at 9.
Okay sorry but Small edit: Helen's Husband was GREAT on Survivor Thailand. He told Helen to vote off Brian and Helen didn't listen to him. Great podcast guys!
Dang crazy we're up to the Top 20 next week lol. I've been playing along and 15/20 of my Top 20 are still in it. I had Edge of Extinction, Africa, Vanuatu, South Pacific, and Samoa on my top half originally (though I could give or take Samoa). But then the 5 seasons I had in my bottom half that we haven't seen yet are Australia, Kaoh Rong, Cook Islands, Panama, and David vs Goliath. Hopefully they get knocked out soon lol but we'll have to wait and see. Excited for Africa next week I have it at #9 its one of my all time favorites!
Panama and Cook Islands have to be coming soon. I had them lower than where they'll likely go. Overrated outside of introducing big icons like Cirie, Parvati, Ozzy, Penner.
I would be honestly surprised if DvG is out of the top 10. I personally love that season and in most season rankings ive seen, its almost always top 10. I believe its a highly ranked season within the fandom
02:56:12 Helen's husband kept driving the point home that Helen needed to get rid of Brian. I know that because I'm one of the dozens who liked 'Thailand'
Also its so interesting that all 3 of the marammu people at the merge made it to the final 4 alongside V, its pretty crazy. Also wow imagine Boston Rob goes out instead of Gabe(i.e. if John didn’t get sooo set on getting Gabe out). Then the game would have been completely different lol. But I’m happy that didn’t happen or else we would have had the same people likely dominate throughout and win.
This was actually the first season I went back and watched to catch up. I stopped a few episodes in because I assumed Rob was winning and it was gonna be predictable lol 🤦🏾♀️
Rosie Odonell hosting the reunion was a disaster. All the reunions that were hosted by Probst were better because Probst made sure to ask every contestant on the show at least one question .....even contestants who were eliminated early. Rosie didn’t ask Peter, Patricia, Gina, Zoe, or the Genral anything.
If Kathy draws the purple rock, I think Paschal probably gets medevac’d so the result is the same. But if they’re able to þ keep him going and it’s not too serious it’ll be a toss up between Vecepia or Neleh in the final immunity but V won’t strike a deal and drop out, she’d probably fight for it so who knows?
I had this season ranked #21. Overall, I don't think there's really a major difference between the pre-merge and post-merge. I think this season is relatively consistent with the story it tells. The problem for me is that they focus a lot on everyone who won't win the game. I really wish we could've seen more of Vecepia's game compared to others. Watching Rob, Kathy, Sean, and John is nice and all, but I feel like I almost knew nothing about everyone else in the game. Early on, you could tell Maraamu would not perform the best in challenges because of the camp's work ethic, and then you got Rotu which was basically a "happy family". Once the swap happened, I definitely thought it was weird with the tribes still being 8 vs. 5, but it did set up an underdog story for the Maraamu tribe when they beat Rotu in a couple challenges. The merge episode was interesting when you get the big confrontation between John, Rob, and Sean, but then you get to probably the biggest part of the season where they flip on John. After that, it's a straight up Pagonging of the Rotu 4 alliance, and you get to the final 5 where Paschal vs. Sean was definitely a heated battle. Had Neleh get taken out by the purple rock draw at the final 4 instead of Paschal, I think Kathy wins. However, I thought the jury was quite hypocritical in the end, and I felt like Vecepia should've won by more considering Neleh was on vacation for 24 days. I would be higher on this season had Vecepia gotten a bit better of an edit to better explain her game, because I haven't been to have a good grasp on how she played overall. I knew she was good socially, but I don't know what else she really did other than the final 2 deal with Neleh. I think this season has its moments, but it could've been better I think.
Just watched this season and I really don’t understand why Rob was asked back or why anyone would trust him on future seasons especially All Stars. He actively lied to everyone so obviously. If you want a villain, why was it not John instead Rob. Also, how do V, Sean, John, or even Tammy/Gina not come back in All-Stars over Jenna, Boston Rob, or Amber.
No. Keep the 39 days. What I originally gravitated towards was the surviving aspect. They should still make it tough. Surviving + the strategic game play makes for what is great about the show, remove one, the show would be half as good.
I just finished this season today and literally can't wait to hear Rob and Jessica talk abt it! and the intern ig. I am here for Kathy and Neleh appreciation, FAR AND AWAY the two best players of s4 idc i said what i said
Watched this season for the first time a few months back. I found it to be a bit of a snooze, but maybe that's because having seen so much strategy in present day seasons, I didn't really appreciate the evolution of the game in this season as much as I should have.
The whole conversation about Rob’s comments on John’s sexuality… They wanted a villain. We can’t look at Rob through today’s perspective and understand why the editors left that comment in. Rob is now an idolized figure but back then he was just a trash talking villain. Nobody knew how big he was going to be, least of all the editors
Vecepia still has one of the best winner reactions.
