    Chris is one of the great underrated winners ever. His degree of difficulty was crazy. Was basically on death row and then Flips the strongest women's alliance (maybe ever) and then proceeds to run the whole game to the finish (as the only guy) and wins. Just an epic performance of gameplay and social skills.

    I know I'm coming in 3 years after the fact, but I thought Kevin and Nigel did a great job. They were obviously extremely prepared and were strong advocates for a season that they loved and thought was underrated and misunderstood. Being half of the panel, they did take up a lot of time, but they were bringing a lot of insight, analysis, and commentary. They never spoke over Grace or Rob; they actually gave them space to speak when they felt like they stepped on their toes. Ultimately, it's on Rob, as the host, to keep things balanced if he thinks someone's speaking too much, which he does do by directing specific questions/topics at certain guests. Plus, it's very clear that time is not an issue for this series with episodes consistently going way over 4 hours, so I don't think Nigel or Kevin were taking time away from Rob or Grace. At worst, they were just padding the runtime.
    I just wanted to defend their contribution in response to some comments saying that they were dominating the conversation. I just think they were well-prepared, had a lot to say, and did their best to be respectful, entertaining guests.

      Yes Vanuatu is easily a top 10 season, and could easily be top 5. I think it isn't higher simply since it is too long ago and to the casual viewer there isn't one super outstanding star either. Mainly since Ami was the only one who returned and that was in her fairly forgettable Micronesia showing.

    Chris could have won either way: if he went with Twila and Scout OR Eliza and Julie.
    If he went to the final three with Julie and Eliza, assuming he won the final challenge, and took Eliza to the final two over Julie. Chris would have won.
    Sarge, Chad, Scout, and Twila probably would have easily voted for Chris. Ami would have voted for Eliza undoubtedly. Leann and Julie are a bit of a grey area but I could have seen them more than likely voting for Chris.
    No way Chris could have won against Julie. Chris would have gotten votes from Sarge and Chad undoubtedly. But Ami, Leann, Eliza (she said on the commentary), and even Twila (she also said so in the commentary) would have voted for Julie. Scout is a gray area, but she wouldn’t have really tipped the scale.
    Now back to the final immunity challenge with the archer endurance thing if it was Julie, Eliza, and Chris. Now, Eliza might not have lasted too long on the challenge given the frail state of her body, she might not have been able to hold the arrow up too long. Julie probably would have put up a good fight because she has more muscle than Eliza, and she’s got some athletic ability that gives her the endurance strength. BUT Chris might have had the advantage over Julie in the challenge with his work background in highway repair (handling heavy equipment and being on unstable surfaces for long periods of time). So it would have been interesting to see.

    I had this season ranked at #20. I like how this season focused on the main contributors to the overall story of the season, and I think it worked, but it was at the expense of most of the early boots getting little to no showtime. The pre-merge wasn't too interesting outside of some fun moments for the season like the earthquake, Eliza and the pigs, as well as the 2nd immunity challenge with the blindfolds because that had some good moments (Someone remind Scout there was a piece in the water!). One we get to the merge, I felt things got interesting, and it started with a solid blindside of Rory who was one of the best characters of the season. After that, the chicken wings were interesting as we saw the gender war happen while Sarge and Chad got voted off. I will say an underrated prophetical moment was Chris' voting confessional when he voted for Sarge by opening it up with this line, "I'm gonna burn every single one of them", and he did just that as soon as the opportunity came up. The final 7 episode is definitely the best episode of the season because although Twila had to throw the bone to Chris, Chris took it and ran full speed ahead with it and flipped the table on its head. Watching Leann and Ami get dethroned was awesome, but then it continues when Chris burns Julie and Eliza. And when it came down to the end, he burned Twila on the final tribal council, and it's a very small but prophetic moment going back to what he said when he voted for Sarge. I enjoyed this season, but it takes until the merge to really get going, but once it gets there, the season is enjoyable. Solid season, but it's just a shame that it ended falling between All Stars and Palau.

    I’m so happy that Kevin and Nigel were on this episode to champion how fantastic Vanuatu is as a season. • @asiannarcissist5481

      Thank you for the positive comment! Vanuatu hits the criteria I care about most and I find it particularly moving and emotional. The season does not feel like chess pieces on the board but a real ~drama~ where the story is told by a series of strong and dynamic women from different walks of life. I have always appreciated the social experiment aspect of Survivor, and I think Vanuatu's slowness is akin to old school Real World. If you can empathize with the characters, understand their motivations, and look for the beauty and tragedy between it all, the season really offers so much for those that want to see it. This not a season full of memes but rather a season full of arcs (redemption and otherwise) so it doesn't having the staying power during a binge. It's probably another reason why it's hardly discussed on message boards because there is a lot to dig into and there is no obvious moments like the Wentworth Idol play to naturally upvote. Vanuatu feels like a classic novel I read in high school, if you really buckle down there is so much to explore and discover in the Islands of Fire.

      @@asiannarcissist5481 Vanuatu is in my top 5 seasons so I too was glad to have you champion the season, especially Twila. That being said, when looking at your other comment reply, we both wanted to dispel inaccuracies about the season, which you did a good job at! The one thing I think you may have missed is that (IMO) Chris is given too much credit when it comes to "amping Twila up" for FTC. There is a confessional before a tribal at some point during the merge where Twila points out that Chris is trying to rile her up, that she isn't dumb, and she knows he's doing it. I can't imagine she would have forgotten that by the time FTC came around. Wish I could remember the exact episode by I know she said it.
      Also, because Twila not being able to type resonated with you as well, do you think production knew she couldn't type and put her first knowing she would say she couldn't do so?? The way Jeff brought up the webcam just made it seem a little fishy to me lmao. Also, why the hostility towards Rafe?

      @asiannarcissist5481 3 роки тому +9

      Thank you for your comments Sarah. I know I can be verbose and we were certainly excited to talk about a season that even Rob didn't have many strong opinions about. Grace is a wonderful podcaster and I can learn to be more concise like her. That said, I do think it was important for Nigel and I to speak up since there are a lot of revisionist/inaccuracies about the season, ones that even Rob/Grace understandably perpetuated (ex. Ami was behind targeting Eliza at F7). To me, there is a lot of nuance that gets lost in Vanuatu, whether that be game play, storytelling, or audience reception. I know I can come off as redundant, but I also don't believe certain important aspects (ex. foreshadowing) would have been mentioned otherwise. So I harped on valuable points that made me appreciate the season more and hoped listeners would find helpful if they didn't "get" the season.
