I drink Johnnie Walker Red Label as a regular fixture. I see it as the perfect price-quality whisky. It is perfect when you are not going for an expensive whisky and you want to have an quality experience with whisky :)
Anyone who buys this knows it isn’t the finest scotch in all the land. It’’s good for its price. Stop being ridiculous and drop two cubes in a glass , shirt pour , kick back and be thankful your alive and sipping scotch
Got a bottle of red for £15, just for a laugh. Was surprised that I enjoyed it. Not as shite as I thought it would be. Very sweet with a little peat. Gave the bottle to my brother whom drinks anything. Don't think I'd buy ever again. Tried the black, double black and the Blue. Liked the double black and was very disappointed by the blue.
It's extremely drinkable for the price. As a working man this is definitely one of my go to's for an every day whisky & when I'm flush eventually one day I might try something different. I've tried Black which is lovely & Green which is probably among one of the finest drams I have ever experienced. Cheers! 🥃 😅
Great review. JW Red is not nearly as bad as some pretentious "connoisseurs" make it to be. It is a simple and somewhat rough whisky, but it is also flavorful. It can cope with ice, has a high malt content for a cheap blend. It doesn't "get lost" in a cocktail. Coats the mouth nicely. This whisky is made for mixing. I would not drink it neat, but it makes a refreshing highball. Just add ice and soda water. The current version relies on Talisker for that smoke, besides Coa Ila . Talisker also, accounts for the paper flavor.
My thoughts are if we (reviewers) don't try these whiskies, ie. cheap/inexpensive blends that most start out with how do we know where we are going or identify with those who have. On my channel I have reviewed 3 or so of these very recently and have a few in the que yet to be reviewed. I applaud you sir, you are not sitting back and denouncing it as crap having never tried it like some do. Keep up the good work!
It's definitely not my favorite... Other inexpensive scotches do more for me than this one, but it is a data point. If anyone claims to know scotch whisky without knowing this one, then the knowledge is harder for me to respect. It's all about tasting whatever we can get our hands on. The more whiskies we try, the broader is our knowledge of whisky...
@@foodquig Nice, thanks. I've had the Prohibition in sight, but thought about starting with the regular Cutty Sark. Also, have you had Black Bottle or Te Bheag ? Heard some good things about them.
I've always liked the Red Label. Definitely not as bad as Inver House. Some people really like Scotch but don't feel like paying a ton of money. Red Label is $20 a bottle here in the US.
Yes, the 375 ml bottle is the way to go. Picked up a JW Black in 375 recently and it is fairly good. Thanks for saving me the time and dollars on the JW Red. Great channel. you deserve more subs.
I've been exploring many whiskeys of late from cheap blends to peat-fuls to single malts and grains and was pleasantly surprised to come back to jw red with a more educated palate to find it's not a bad whiskey at all. A lovely full cinnamon mouth with a pepper finish and even a broader palate of caramels on ice. Don't snub it just looking at the price. It's been around a long time for good reason.
good man,,its nice if you give it a fair shake,,specially with the right amount of water ,its robust with flavor and peat notes you dont find much these days with other brands
idk why it gets knocked down,,it actually more expensive than its other counter part league and its robust with aroma and flavor and what other modern whiskies lack ,peat,,,but with a bit of water it mellows nicely as a neat sipper
Always wanted to ask, what is up on the map on your wall with a few states, Kentucky, Illinois, Texas, Pennsylvania and a Provence or two in Canada being a blueish color? And you are a brave man drinking the Red Label neat. Wise man buying a 1/2 bottle. Cheers!
I think Red Label is good for mixing whereas black and above are better off neat. Curious if you have seen the JW finished in rye casks in UK market? I haven’t tried it but I would like to
Just bought a bottle for $20.00 today and gave it a try. I wasn't disappointed. Now I can say I've tried 3 different brands of Scotch Whiskey. The Famous Grouse, Ballentine's Finest and now Johnnie Walker Red Label. Out of these 3, The Famous Grouse is still my favorite. I can't stand Ballentine's Finest. Got it for less than $10.00 at our liquor board and it's terrible. It's okay mixed with a glass of Coca Cola, but straight up, or even on the rocks is gross. I find Johnnie Walker Red Label to not be quite as sweet as The Famous Grouse, but it's not bad. Next month I may buy some black label. It costs $52.00 here. Blue label is $250.00. I'd have to have a shot sized bottle of it. I'd never pay that much for Whiskey. I couldn't help noticing you have The Famous Grouse on your table. I highly recommend it. Thanks for the review.
The black label is one of my favourites from the JW range. Haven't reviewed yet though. It's a little smokier than you'll be used to do hopefully you like it!
@@NoNonsenseWhisky Thanks and I look forward to your review. I remember reading about how Scotch Whiskey, regardless of brand, tends to have a smokier flavor compared to Irish, Bourbon and Tennessee and Canadian Whiskeys.
That’s partly true, but not for all scotch. There a whole bunch that are completely unpeated and not at all smokey. It used to be defined by region (and so the availability of peat) but that’s changed a lot in the last few decades
My take on JWR, warm summer day, with a bunch of friends at an outside table. With heavy rocks, enjoying the sun and the company. Otherwise not so sure what it's good for.
It's not too bad. Trying it now for the first time, got a decent bargain on a litre so thought I'd give it a go. Not something I'd have regularly but not bad. Glen Keith was a good one though
So had my first red label yesterday. The overpowering taste and smell of oak barrels and smokiness is too much for me. Not sweet, not fruity. Quite a ruff taste.Paid 13 euros for a 0.7 litre bottle. My rating 2.5/5.
happy with a Jamesons No Nonsense Whisky good with ginger wine. my dogs allowed me to stop for a large glenlivet and a marlboro this afternoon. happy sunday
I always tought jhonny walker could claim the most sold mixed scotch because counted the red and the black together. May be wrong tough just what i heard.
That's definitely a factor, but by extension the red label is JW most sold expression. The next most sold is Ballantines, but they also have a ton of expressions so I think the Red still pops it
alright, if you got a TIE Fighter on your shelf, i will usally agree with your opinion, i bought Red Label today, and i'm drinking it while watching, personally i don't like it, and i am close to acquaint it with the sink, because it tastes like how i imagine a foam matress would taste like, but i bought it so ofc i'm gonna get pissed from it., 4/10 for me personally, i've had better whiskies, but it's not the worst i've had, will buy it again probably, but only because the legend himself (Churchill) drank this.
Its pretty bad, but the taste got better after the open bottle set on the shelf for a couple months. At first I hated it but now that the bottle is about half full its drinkable
Yeah I don't know for sure but it does not seem likely that Diageo needs to source whisky's for their red label. I guess it could be true though, you never know.
It is the best at its price point. sure a single malts are better, but they are TWICE THE PRICE... the JW Red probably has like 30-40 different single malts blended. so if your just getting into it, this is a great starter or weekend sipper or with coke and ice. Do not listen to the so called 'connaisseur'.. or scotch single malt snobs ... JW Red is great... for what it is.
I assume he is in the UK and am not sure that one is available there. I thought and I maybe wrong it is shipped over here in large containers and bottled here.
To be honest, it's garbage and a cynical cash cow for Diageo. The barrels used to age this stuff for three years and a day are so used and re-used it's amazing. I don't want to sound snobby but entry level can be so much better than this. 'It's cheap' but I can get a pretty decent bottle of wine for the same money. It sort of tastes like whisky squash. I am sounding snobby but the thing is thing's evolve, usually for the better. This whisky is stuck in the past. I've no problem with inexpensive whisky but Diageo can afford to make it better than this.
What are you talking about ? We have a great crisis here in Lebanon and all the cheap whisky is shit that gives you more depression so we buy the red lable 0.75 for 13-15$ because its the best shittiest alcohol for a country with no dreams all you have is your scotch and imagination.
