    This is a brilliant bike. I’m over the moon with mine. I suspect for 99% of riders it ticks most boxes. Great triple engine , silky smooth, and more than adequate power, extremely comfortable, good space for a passenger, and very peppy for weekend fun - and a great tourer without having to deal with the mass and size and weight of other options - some of which are big old busses. Great quality finish and the ride quality is fantastic - and I’ve owned BMW , Honda and Suzuki. The price is a complete bonus - and with a few add ons heated grips and spot lights and luggage and you have a very very affordable sporty tourer that’s also fun for weekend blasts.
    Can’t fault it for price - you get a lot of capability.

    I just picked mine up yesterday (In red) am in love with it already. I don't mind that it doesn't have cruise control as I got it to ride it (personal preference I guess) The engine and power delivery is so smooth and the bike feels so light and nimble. I was blown away. You spoke on the brakes as well, I have to say on my first ride (400km there or there abouts to get it home) I had to throw them on a couple of times and they preformed really strongly.

    Lovely bike, just wish it had cruise control. I know it would add cost but with a ride by wire throttle it surely can't be that much.

    • @rafaelcordoba13
      @rafaelcordoba13 2 роки тому +4

      this would make the Tiger 900 less interesting, for that to happen in the future, the more expensive bikes must have "something else" extra, like adaptive-cruise-control for example in the 900, then you will have normal cruise-control on the 660 :-)

    • @stuartmoore8002
      @stuartmoore8002 2 роки тому +5

      @@rafaelcordoba13 I get your point but that would mean the person buying the bike would ONLY be after a triumph which is not normally the case. The Tiger 900 and the Tiger Sport 660 are very different animals. If someone was in the market to buy a bike like the Sport 660 they would be more inclined to look at the other bikes mentioned in the video like the Tracer 7 or the Versys 650 as alternatives, I'm not sure they'd be looking at the Tiger 900. The moment Yamaha or Kawasaki add that feature watch Triumph scramble to do it too.

    • @rafaelcordoba13

    • @stuartmoore8002

      @@rafaelcordoba13 yes and spend £3000 more (at least) which is probably the reason for someone to be in the market for a 660 in the first place. Like I said, the moment one of the manufacturers puts CC on their bike it will instantly steal buyers from the other ones. There are many other reasons to go up a category than just cruise control if you can afford it so I don't think it will steal sales from higher models if they put it on the 660. In my opinion it's an oversight by Triumph to exclude the cruise control (or even the choice of making it an option) and I've seen a few bike journalists, including Motobob and Michael Neeves mention its omission as a mistake by the manufacturer and I agree.

    • @RandomRaytex

    Getting this bike this October and I'm way too excited for it. I just did a test drive this morning, with the missus as the pillion and she loved it. We've got some nasty speed breakers and potholes here in Mumbai, India and this beauty went through them without any hiccups. I'd definitely get the belly pan and the engine protectors. Not so sure about the heated grips though. The price seems to be on the upside as compared to the UK market. It comes to about 12 lakhs, about 11,500 GBP without any additions.
    And as always, Motobob, your reviews have been my go-to ones for a while now. Absolutely love the content and presentation.

    I wonder if they’ll give the same treatment to the Street Triple, to offer a better equipped, higher powered bike with some wind protection. It seems that a lot of the new mid-range, lighter bikes are seen as a budget option. Many riders of bigger bikes (like the BMW GS or Triumph Explorer) are looking for something lighter, but with comfort and performance. I, for one would be happy to pay for such a beast.

      I just bought the 22 Tiger (as New) in Red just like this one. It does look as great in person as it does in the video: No special photography to make things 'shine'. This bikes "quality" in finish and appearance IS as it is shown, and for the Price (I paid 11,700 OTD) it is not exactly a 'budget' bike, but mid ranged - (it is a 660 after all) but it sits real nice and really is quite a Tidy machine. And the dealer gave me the lower Panniers tossed into the deal. The Triple engine is tried and true, and I [noticed] that the tires valve stems are at a 90 degree angle! 'smart'. And looks cool too, not to mention how much easier it is to attach the air hose! Im not getting paid anything, but I plug this one because for the class and price, this new Tiger is above the competition!

    At 70 mph, it gets a little buzzy through the handlebars and footpegs. The footpegs are bare metal and would be better with some rubber. Not much room for a pillion, they tend to slide forward into the operator's seat. The instrument cluster is nice but needs a matte screen protector to cut down on the glare. Non-adjustable levers. Same price and very similar to the Versys 650, definitely look at both and pick the one you like best.

    FANTASTIC Review! The bike is near perfect for my needs; however, it's a bit heavy, the seat is kinda higher than I'd like, the tank could be a little bit bigger, and those painted lines on the gauge cluster are distracting. These are nitpicky things, though. It's a nice bike that I hope sells well and creates more competition. Smaller riders have been begging for bikes like this for years!

    The omission of cruise control was a penny pinching and foolish error. Take the new Husqvarna Norden....it has quickshift and CC as standard, whereas it's an optional extra with its rivals. Okay it's £150 extra and it really should be a proper zero-cost option, not an accessory, but I'd be willing to pay that. My only reservation is that Triumph should now go further and offer a factory fitted lowering kit, to lower the seat height so that people who are little above the 5' mark (including LOTS of WOMEN) can ride THIS BIKE, safely and comfortably, being able to put at least one foot down on the ground when at a standstill. SUPERB WORK Triumph. If I had 8K, I'd be straight down the dealers to pick one up (in the red, by far the best colour).

    Good review. Nice.
    I've had my Tiger for some months now. Pluses and minuses, I reckon. I kinda love it but then I don't.
    PROS? Here they are after some 1000s of kms.
    1. I love the styling. Great job Triumph. I have the 'graphite'.
    2. The dash is excellent. It is super bright/clear and displays more enough data.
    3. There is enough power for most runs and the Tiger travels happy as Larry on the motorways.
    4. The windshield is good, not great; but the adjustability is spot on.
    5, Great tyres [tires (USA)] for this price-point.
    6. The luggage is excellent for general work.
    CONS? Here they come.
    1. The dash should have been hinged. It can glare depending on sunlight direction.
    2. The Tiger is a fairly top heavy bike and somewhat unwieldy especially for beginner riders.
    3. This is a big one for me. The gearing is odd. 1st and 2nd are too similar and 6th is more like 5.2.
    4. I installed the Quickshifter. When it is happy it is fab, but it is temperamental and needs a fair push to move at times.
    5. I've heard guys rave about the Triumph gearboxes but I am not impressed. Not at all. My plumber is quieter.
    6. The throttle has an annoying lag. And that can create problems on the road, at times.
    7. The dealbreaker for me is the comfort. I mean particularly the seating. That angular high end rear and low front with no scoop at the tank constantly forces the rider forward. This, coupled with the wide-ish form of the seat results in fatigue. After a couple of hours riding you are ready for massage time. Look at pro cyclist seats. It is not the cushioning that gives those guys the ability to ride for 8hrs full-gas. Shape gives most of the comfort not padding.
    The Tiger is going the journey. My mates won't look at me but I'm upgrading to the Honda 125 CBE and the 1250 GSA.
    Now that is comfort!

    • @robshef718
      @robshef718 Рік тому

      1. The hinged dash? Anything is gunna glare at any other 'sun to object' angle. (thats a continuous thing) But for the most part, it is viewable just fine.
      2. Don't know what your 'definition of' "Top heavy" is? [TOP] heavy??? It is the lighter of its class, And is balanced VERY nice. Beginner? Well that depends on the person and how comfortable they feel on a bike. But the throttle mapping options, maps the bike for far less intimidating responses, and the 660 cruises easily. Not over bearing for a 'beginner'.
      3. You will have to argue with Triumph about the way they 'mapped the Torque range' for this bike, but it is a 'triple' and can have a better Torque range than a twin, but I find the gearing superb and giving a wide range of torque for low speeds without having to down shift more, if you are in traffic, as the revvy triple can [due to torque] pick up speed quit nicely when needed. for 2nd, you dont need as much throttle...to get the bike going, again, given the nice rpm range for 2nd...... ya just gotta twist the throttle and dont let it intimidate you...but she will purr, if you need her too, in low gear. The gearing makes this bike a better performer than most twins. with too wide a range between low gears. if that is your concern. You dont want a wider range [between 1 and 2] if you are in traffic that is slow, other wise you would be clutching and clutching to keep the bike from stalling.... So be happy that Triumph got this Right! cheers.
      4. The QS was a mistake.
      5. The Tiger Gear box is typical for a middle weight. Not sure what 'you are referring too' about 'raving' unless we are once again, talking about the throttle mapping to the gear and torque ratio's in this bike which are excellent. Maybe you just prefer a slower response?
      6. There is NO throttle lag. Are you sure YOU have a tiger? The throttle is quick and precise, often to the point where I have to be careful. MAYBE you have the setting for rain mode? that is set to decrease the wheel spin on wet and slick roads. There are SIX ride performance selections, out of the 'two' central modes. Each mode has three selections.
      7. Again, don't know what you are talking about with the comfort. unless you just have a weirdly shaped butt? The bike and rider sit very nice, and upright. (I have a Tiger) I get planted right there, whether I chose to sit in close, or schooch my butt back a bit on the seat. Having that option to tweak your butt on a long ride is great. The Tiger seat is comfortable. But on any bike, ...."any bike", you are going to get rider fatigue after some time....same with sitting in a car for 8 hours.. Gotta stop and get out, or get off. I have had 3 other bikes, and its the same. The seat is fine, but your butt is going to get tired, like the rest of you on any extended ride. Take breaks. The body is not meant to NOT move! Hell, Id rather ride my bike than be stuck on an airliner seat for 10 hours! lol. You said it. After a couple of hours!!!! yah, stop and get off! like having to get out of the car. Who says, My car seats are dreamy after 15 hours on the road! No one! Shape or padding! its moot dude. Pro cyclists dont have rosey asses after long rides! move on. The honda is a down grade, and ya dont need a super heavy 1250? Yo are still going to take breaks. and I guarantee that when you get off the other bike, you are going to stretch! cheers :)

    Yep, no cruise, no deal. I see the comments from long-time riders that writes that off. But, I've been riding for over 50 years and if you REALLY, ACTUALLY take long rides, cruise is safer, more relaxing, and after a couple of hours a necessity. I agree, JUST MAKE IT OPTIONAL! Triumph need to do an adventure version of this Tiger 660 with a 19 or a 21 inches front wheel. I would go with a 19 inches front wheel to compete with the Suzuki V-Strom 650 XT.
    There’s already the Aprilia Tuareg 660 to compete with the Tenere 700.

    Very thorough overview, Bob. But I wish Triumph had resisted the urge to meddle with the dash. Adding CC will require ECU unit which this doesn't have.I agree it would be great to add but it is not just an added option it would require a huge upgrade with the ECU incorporated. I do think from a safety point I would pay extra for it but I have the money too so they might be after entry level people with this price .Maybe like the Rally upgrade on 900 have an upgrade 660 that would work .

    Great review as always. Just a plea, you are clearly pretty tech savvy and you say the Triumph App is pretty good (for this and other Triumphs) - but as a new Tiger 900 owner, I am not getting along with the Navigation part of the tech pack and cannot find a comprehensive/decent ''How to'' video. I am sure there are thousands of us out there who would love to see a video of how to set up or ''programme'' the navigation for a normal leisure ride. My main issue is that if you want to go on a ride, I simply can't seem to get it to have a destination, then a number of way points or ''vias''. As an example I went on a ride in the Derbyshire Peaks and wanted to follow a circular route, but could not programme something in that would point me to Hathersage, Bakewell, Hope, Glossop then back to Hathersage.... I have spent some time with it and could not make that work, so hugely frustrating, as I got the GT Pro for that kind of thing.
    Any pointers would be great, as I am now regretting paying the extra....

      I use Calimoto for nav and its functionality. But waypoints can be done on the Triumph App nav: Input destination first (same as start point if wanting circular route), then press ‘+’ for each waypoint. They’ll appear as A,B,C etc. It’s basic, but doable.

    I love this bike and was definitely going to buy one but when they said there was no cruise control option that killed it. I like long rides so cruise control is a must and being of the older generation I wanted a smaller capacity engine, the power of the 660 is more than enough for me. Without doubt it will sell well but I will not be one of the buyers unfortunately.

    great review. I love this bike. I drive a 2010 street triple and with age , I am looking at something more comfortable, but still light and nimble enough. A tracer 900 ticks a lot of boxes , but stylewise they drifted away from what I find atractive. This tiger 660 would be a step back powerwise and since I am a 90kg big guy, I actually prefer my bike a little more powerfull ( like the tracer 9), So , it would be great if this tiger styling would be launched in a triple engine around the 120hp mark
