  • So in the last video we fixed the fuel pressure and over boosting issues on this mk7 fiesta st 180.
    my plan now was to use HP tuners to remap the car to stage 1.
    it wasn't easy and the fuel pressure problems returned when i added more boost so a long process of diagnosing and fixing it ensued
    mods on the car so far

    Good to see you helping others, but please look after yourself first with some liability insurance. I’ve seen too many times things get ugly when cars go wrong and owners forget the favours done for them. Sad, but true.

    Hi Steve - i like your videos. So im familiar with doing flash tuning using taxtrix cable and openEcu. Ive never used HP tuners - what are the issues with flashing a Fiesta (Vinlocked etc?) could you do an episode covering more around using it? Also i note your not logging a wideband? how much headroom do the stock injectors have in them? more than the stock turbo can demand? cheers

    I did a compression test and my results are very different. 150 on cylinders 1 & 4 but 125 on cylinders 2 & 3. Not sure if I've got a problem on the valve stem seals in the middle or got an issue with the pistons rings on those cylinders or there is a break in the head gasket in the middle. Got no carbon in the coolants tank as liquid stayed blue like yours. Any ideas?

    My car had major overboosting issues whilst doing test pulls with Pumaspeed, and after 3 days of having the car, trying countless different changes and runs they couldn't get it to stop. It was boosting at 17PSI with a Turbosmart 7PSI actutor on, and they were pulling their hair out, so in the end we put the stock actuator back on and the problem went away! Now it runs beautifully :) They said they've never ran into this issue before that couldn't be fixed, and they even took apart the actuator to see if it was actually a 17PSI one with the wrong packaging, but it was a 7PSI.

    • @Sparkplugsteve
      @Sparkplugsteve  2 роки тому

      The map obviously wasn't set for the actuator and because they can only flash map and not actually map there's nothing they can do to alter that themselves

    Did you flash a stock file back onto it before uploading the new stage 1 remap?

      @@Sparkplugsteve The best solution is always to flash a full factory file onto the ECU first before applying any other tuning. Any Revo dealer or tuner with access to full factory files and the correct tooling would have been able to do this for you and would have possibly saved some time and frustration. The reason for this is mainly because we add in switchable mapping and additional data/tables onto the ECU which can't often be read or written over by some flashing tools which only access a limited part of the ECU structure. This might still be a helpful option for you, by putting the ECU fully back to stock, data logging, and then applying your software again.
      As a side note, it looks like this vehicle was running an older software version from 2016, and there have been various updates since this time.

      @Revo hi and thanks very much for taking the time to message. That's much appreciated and yes as you have guessed I'm just a hobbyist and this is a family member who I decided to help out. A pro tuner for sure would laugh at my struggles but it's a lesson learned and I appreciate your time.

      @@Sparkplugsteve Every day is a school day, always something new to learn. You come across really well and do explain things clearly.
      With most calibrations, you would have been fine, but as above, we write and flash full ECU files built from the stock calibration. Therefore, some ECU’s we’ve encrypted, this is mainly down to the switchability functions of Revo software. This encryption only blocks the ECU from being read, preventing our software and tuning from being copied. However, a lot of the time this causes people to assume we have "locked" the ECU. However, a factory file can always be written to the ECU and new tuning applied. So always worth putting the ECU make to a factory first as you have a clean slate for logging and diagnostic work.

      Basically, it is down to the switchability of our mapping, where we add additional data/tables to the ECU so customers can use our SPS switch to change performance modes within the ECU via the OBD port. A lot of flashing tools don't have the ability to access these areas of the ECU or the function to flash a full factory/stock file back onto the ECU before applying any new calibrations. We would always advise visiting a Revo dealer or tuner with access to factory files to flash the vehicle back to a "full" stock before proceeding with new tuning :)
