Disclaimer I'm not a professional and just a hobbyist. The idea of the video is to show the inner workings of the ford fiesta st ecu to those who have never seen it. I don't claim to know everything about mapping and yes i learnt from others better than i am. This map is not copied from any other companies map and is completely my own although as said above iv learnt what needs changing from others. I'm not pretending to have re invented the wheel here
Can't say I understood everything you were doing there😂 but thanks for doing the video as it has given a brilliant insight into remapping. Thanks for the video mate and keep it up👍🏼
Big Respect Steve for sowing us the ins and outs. This is the nitty gritty stuff that people want to know. Keep up the good work! Would be awesome if you could use this tool to demonstrate things like how over run is done and closed vs open loop control
Interesting video Steve. You have a knack for giving things a go. Would you be interested in doing a follow up video where a tuner reviews what you have done to see how safe it is? Possible dyno run after too for them to check how it runs under load etc? Again, I know this is not a tutorial, will just be interesting to see what it is actually like from a pro's pov.
Hi Liam thanks for the comment. There's no way another tuner will get involved in this imo but I am thinking a dyno session with a before and after is worth doing. The map needs more work since this base map so I plan to film that as soon as I have time.
Great to see how HPTuner works, I was thinking of getting it because HPTuner ships from Europe and I noticed LP sells the remote tune with the same dongle (but branded). Could avoid customs if I got the dongle in europe and get just the map from LP. So my question is, are any of the bigger tunners' maps available in the HPTune ecosystem using their credits? Will Collins Performance iflash maps files work with HPTuner?
A great video about how ECU tuning works👍. I wouldn't dare take it on. I was pleased with myself fitting a short shifter and induction kit lol. This looks a little above my pay scale. I think it was safer that I give my money to Revo 😂 It's still good to see how ECU reprogramming works. Not many videos about it. I think the majority just pay a tuner and think 'god that's made a difference' and don't give it a second thought.
Quick question Steve, they reckon LSPI damages a lot of engines due to mapping but dont the knock sensors retard the ignition timing if it detects knock ?
Good question. Lspi is not knock or detonation. It's pre ignition so it's an ignition of fuel before the spark event. As the piston is rising the fuel ignites which causes massive cylinder pressure.
the credits cost and dongle is cheap compared to a tune and ap. id buy the puma max tune plugin but, we dont run the same fuel here in the us. good to see a modified stock tune here on youtube before you made the changes. i think im going to turn off the second o2 sensor and run a wideband to a gauge mounted in the vent if thats possible. id like to run my car on 87octane (reg pump gas) here in the states. im getting 34 mpg's combined during the 80f weather here. i may drop down in mpg's a little bit with a higher flow cat and straight through after that but, this would be a good experiment on my high mileage 1.6. cant thank you enough for posting this!
@@Sparkplugsteve so us spec cars built in Germany received different ecu's? i was under the impression that the puma speed maps worked on any FiST ecu. we dont have the same octane ratings here so i started looking for a different option and came across your video. im still going to go with hp tuner. but i wonder if i could benefit from converting to euro control modules. im the only person who works on my FiST. do the euro models have a governed speed?
Hi Steve, going on my first track day in July in the fiesta st. I'm a bit budget restricted for upgrades. Would you say pads, braided brake lines, and baffled sump are good enough for a first outing?
I would say brakes are the most important upgrade for the track, I haven’t seen many ppl do a baffled sump in these so I don’t think it’s that important
@@ash1808 cheers Ash. I'd already upgraded the brakes with ebc grooved discs, bluestuff pads and braided lines all round. Got the baffled sump in the end for peace of mind. I do push hard on track so it's nice to have. Just bought an upgraded radiator as I was having chronic, heat related, limp mode issues. Next things to have will be a diff and suspension. Then will look to add HP if I'm keeping the car longer term. Would like a try of the ginetta G40 or caterhams if I'm honest
Can I use the same numbers for my focus 1.6 EB? As it is the same engine as used in the Fiesta ST it should be fine right? Or am I misunderstanding something?
I did at the time because if I'm honest I was copying what I've seen others do. Iv since worked on a few maps now and and always set it much lower. In my inexperience I assumed it was done to stop a potential issue with power cut etc but iv not had any problems since reducing it.
Steve please help me mate. I got the stage 2r puma speed today with decat crackle and it’s far too loud. Do you have the device to remove the crackle map? I will pay money.
I can do it but maybe better to speak to them and see if they can email you the non crackle map. That's providing you have to mapping tool or did you visit them direct
Depends in what way you mean? It can be mapped to have more ignition although I wouldn't advise it incase tue methanol runs out. Fail safes have been done though by mj performance so when it runs out it will put the car in limp mode rather than run full power and blown up. I don't know exactly what they done but I think it's a trigger wire to the map sensor
@@Sparkplugsteve awesome mate, thanks for the fast response probably best getting a standalone then. Looking at either a 1.6 ecoboost or the 1.5 from the st if the my 1.0 goes at some point

Sps remapping must say Steve anything you do mate you give 100% in application and effort

Thank you. Just bear in mind the USA ecu works differently to European models. Yours is more complex than ours

Brilliant video well in Steve!
I have a question for you should I buy a st? And would you bother with a montune stage?
Thanks and no I wouldn't go mountune personally. A lot of money for not very much
Hi Steve how safe is a stage 1 map does it put extra pressure on standard parts
Totally off topic here, does anyone know where I can get my hands on an ST170 vvt solenoid?

Hi Steve how much bhp do you think you added so far, Mine is running around 215 bhp on a dream science 99 race stage one tune.
Maybe added 15bhp but with some tweaks it will make a bit more

When's the next vid Steve?
Iv been lazy lately and not filmed anything iv been doing sorry. 🙈
HPtuners wasn’t able to save my tune, anyone have this issue?
What car is it and what tune? Some tuners encode the map so they can't be downloaded and read
