Also btw, the soundtrack for this game is phenomenal man, has some variety and plenty of Crush 40 songs like Knight of the Wind, Through the Fire and Fight the Knight which you should check out. But my recommendation is the excellent ballad like end credits song "Live Life."

bruh what the fuck???? I remember this song from this game very vividly and enjoyed for many years. I had no idea the lead guitar was from Marty friedman. Holy shit. How the fuck did they managed to snag him for a damn sonic game? One of my favorites from childhood mind you. But still.
Yesss. Love this track. Fun fact about this song: it plays for the final boss of the game, and the verses represent a back-and-forth of idealogies between the main antagonist and Sonic. Verse 1 is from her perspective, and Verse 2 is from Sonic's. That's also why this song is a duet. Vocal tracks in the Sonic series are USUALLY reserved for main themes or final boss themes (sometimes they're the same thing). This soundtrack does have more of what you were expecting, so in the future I'm sure Black Knight will surprise you too.

Someone needs to request more Black Knight. The music in this game is some of the best in the series, and I'm not simply talking about the vocal tracks, though I would love to see him react to Through the Fire or Face the Knight.
genuinely surprised more people haven't requested the big Sonic themes(Live and Learn, His World, Endless Possibilities, I Am All of Me, etc). If I had a choice though Fight the Knight and Seven Rings in Hand
This is one of my favorite final boss tracks to come from any Sonic game. Funny enough, the band Crush 40 performed most of the vocal tracks in this game and you can hear a quick sample of them in this song at 2:04. So I was surprised they didn't do the final boss, but they top it off with doing the end credits that ended up being one of the best songs they ever made. I'm sure someone will recommend it to you one day... or I will. lol Anyway, I think it's a compliment that this song fits in so well with the rest of the OST.
This track is amazing. It really sells the entire game's story to me, with how the usual black and white morality of a Sonic game is subverted by having half the vocals be Sonic's and half Merlina's. So they are eachother's final bosses in a situation that has no real good answer. Everyone in the kingdom is going to die, and it's just a matter of how each of them deals with it.
I love the fact the you were able to call EVERY structure of the song cuz of your knowledgment, but I can tell you was enjoying yourself while listening to that track
It's one of my favorite Songs and the Theme of my favorite Gaming Villains: Merlina Short Form: She can't accept the Fact that everything in the World ends. She wants to grant the Kingdom Immortality even if that means it will fall to Darkness. Long Form: The Game plays Years after the Camelot Story: Arthus has become evil and Merlins Granddaughter summons Sonic Over the first Part of the Story there's a Scene with Merlina picking a Flower saying "Why do flowers bloom knowing they are destined to wither? Their time of beauty is so short-lived." while a sad Piano Version of this Plays After Arthur is defeated Merlina takes Excaliburs Scabbard she uses it for a Spell and Darkness spreads "I shall make this Kingdom eternal" After some Levels to weaken that Spell this plays in the Final Boss Fight
She is a fantastic villain. IMO, however, the final boss of Persona 5: Royal is just cannot be topped. They even have a similar conflict with the heroes, via conflicting ideologies.
@@phntmthf5505I just returned to the Video and recently finished Royale. Honestly in Persona 5 Royale I saved. Did the bad Ending in that Arc and reloaded. Because this is probally what I would have chosen in that Situation.
The main melody theme is the exact same as Merlina's theme from the same game because she's a twist character who turns into the true villain all along, and the themes are representing that. This game's theme is about fear and how it can cause good people to get twisted, Merlina was so afraid of death that she used her magic to corrupt the world, to create a perfect one where nothing ever ends. One of the greatest lines from the franchise happens in this fight, where Merlina asks Sonic in the final boss "This world and everything in it will come to an end? Is that what you wish?" And Sonic replies with one of his best lines he's ever said: "Nah, it's not gonna end. My stories only end when I stop running!"
To think that a final boss actually found a way to preserve life for eternity by using the power of darkness, and then Sonic of all people not only acknowledges that is a problem, but it also starts a philosophical discussion with her about how things must end or not. And in the end, he concludes with this: "Merlina...Every world has it's end. I know that's kinda sad, but... That's why we have to live life to the fullest in the time we have! At least, that's what I figure!"
Oh we're hitting the good stuff now! Black Knight had such an amazing soundtrack but was also kinda the end of an era for the blue blur. After this, they essentially soft rebooted Sonic, replacing most of the voice cast, making the games a lot shorter and making the writing far lighter as a whole. So this has always felt like a final farewell kinda game for darker story writing and more adventurous ideas to me and even with some control oddities, I love the game a lot!
The soundtrack from this game has a lot of traditional Celtic sounding music, but it also has a lot of music like this. They were definitely going for a Ronnie James Dio kind of vibe. Metal with fantasy inspired lyrics blaring while killing dragons and fighting wizards.
YYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE one my favorite Sonic vocal tracks, it's so good I think my body almost started vibrating out of excitement from seeing the notif for this video, gosh
I love this game because it shows Sonic isnt afraid to play the bad guy. In this game the villain wants the world to continue and Sonic is here to stop that cyz he thinks that shit is lame. I think of this song as the villain and Sonic talking to eachother
if you see the lyrics, it is actually a talk between the final boss and sonic, as through the verses they go back and forth, and yeah, Sonic in a sense ends being the bad guy as he calls the bs of the world while Merlina tries to keep the status quo and her control over it
A year late on this, however, if you wanted a bit of Sonic meets the Medieval era-esque style. I'd suggest the OST's of 2 stages within this game. Camelot Castle and Misty Lake. For instance, in Camelot Castle. You might get a bit of the Medieval violinist and orchestra-type music but at some point you'll be able to tell when there's a little bit of character influence from the blue hedgehog himself. As if it's Sonic toying with enemies within the stage. Adds a bit of character. Misty Lake however feels like the opening of an epic fairy tale you're about to be told (which is ironic because that is LITERALLY what is happening in this stage as you run through it.)
Sonic Rush OST is interesting, Vela Nova and Wrapped In Black are absolute classics. But there's plenty other great pieces in there too, A New Day, Jeh Jeh Rocket, Back 2 Back, all good and catchy. The ost really synchronises well into the game's aesthetic. Indeed, that's also one of the great things about sonic, is the osts generally also really fit the game both for their individual levels and have a style that ties into creating a unique aspect of that soundtrack that matches the game. Once you know what you're looking for, you can tell which sonic game a track came from.
Being used for the final battle, my favorite part about this fight is while the boss and another character are talking to eachother all prim medieval like, Sonic's retorts are his typical modern day smart-ass remarks lol
anyways let me try to be helpful here this is a Wii game from 2009, and as for gameplay just try to imagine: Sonic with a sword. that's about it for context.
This game could use a remaster. Wouldn't be GREAT, but waggle controls were pointless and replacing the sword swing with a button (and maybe a qte prompt that didn't freakin' lie to you) would do wonders to make a nice game gone bad into a sorta alright game.
Such a good song. An absolute banger of a final boss theme, and a song that beautifully illustrates the conflicting ideologies of Sonic vs the antagonist. She wants to create a world that never wilts and dies, a world that goes on forever in peace, never knowing the tragic end that befalls the Arthurian Legend the story takes place in. Sonic knows that *every world will come to end*, and believes that isn't a bad thing. It just means you need to enjoy things while you can, because the ephemerality of life is what gives it meaning. The purpose here isn't to paint Sonic as the Hero, because this clsshvwas not black and white. It was a clash if ideologies that showed that Sonic would stick to his beliefs, even if it becomes something that harms the world as a whole.
There are some exceptions, but vocal tracks in Sonic are usually opening/ending cutscenes, final boss, end credits... In Some sonic games there are character/team theme songs, but they essentially only play properly during end credits... One exception might be Knuckles stages in Sonic Adventure 2, if I remember correctly... Plus the odd stage somewhere... The vocal tracks mostly started being a big thing with Sonic Adventure, although there's the one in Sonic CD and I think there was one or two in Sonic R... But obviously they wouldn't come in much before CDs This style of music is pretty common for Sonic final bosses in the 3D sonic games from the Dreamcast/PS2/Gamecube/Xbox era, into the PS3/360/Wii era, with the odd exceptions... Sonic themes were often kinda pop, punk rock kinda stuff, Shadow often had more metal vibes... Knuckles had the hiphop/RnB mix... Amy was a bit more on the pop side... Eggman/Robotnik and Final bosses tended to be butt rock or hair metal type stuff... Or whatever you call it... Sonic and the Secret Rings and Sonic and the Black knight were slightly odd Wii games that put Sonic into an Arabian Nights and King Arthur style story respectively... I'm not sure how to explain the gameplay exactly... Kinda like an on rails, racing type platformer?... That was mission based? lol. Either way, Black Knight has a few tracks in this style, I think... I think all for bosses... I forget... I never played the game myself, but I got the soundtrack anyway lol.

Luckily even if every Sonic game sucks in the past decade (whenever Generations came out, excluding Mania), the music seems to always hit.
