This is what happens when youre a sonic fan. You play a new stage and you just vibe to the music, and you just cant help it, especially with this song. You hear the daytime stage and youre jamming out, but you play the nighttime stage and you just mellow out and nod your head to the song. Its too good.
A shame that the nighttime music is so slamming, because Sonic Unleashed's battle theme is constantly interrupting it. (And it's the same battle theme. All of the time. Which again, is a shame.)
Thing is, the combat music itself is actually still great. The only thing that ruins it is that you hear it ALL the time so it ends up grating on people's ears instead of complimenting the existing stage track.
Slap bass funk, keys, and accordion isn't a combination you get to hear very often. I love all of the Night stage themes in Unleashed, and I wish you got to hear them more. The Night stages also have a dedicated battle theme which is quite good but it plays every time you fight an enemy, which interrupts the immaculate Night stage music most of the time.
One of the night themes of Unleashed, which I believe are so good they give many of the Day themes a run for their money. In comparison to the fast paced Day stages, most of your gameplay in the night stages is more platforming and parkour based (outside of enemy encounters anyway) so these songs often give a mysterious, calm feeling of moving about the streets of a once bustling city in the sleeping hours. As such, Tomoya Ohtani and crew created some banging tracks that give you unique vibes for each, with the man himself tackling this song and creating a funky tune fitting for this fictional version of Europe the game crafts. Unleashed has an amazing soundtrack, so I’m always glad when you check out a new song from this game!
Sonic Unleashed's whole...thing was that each stage has two variants: day and night. In the day you play as normal Sonic and the music is very fast-paced, because well...it's Sonic. You're running at lightspeed through these stages and the music fits that. In the night stages Sonic transforms into this wolf-bear-hedgehog hybrid beast with spiked cleats and stretchy arms called a werehog (no I am not making this up), and the stages are much slower-paced and are more platforming/combat-focused. The out-of-combat music is more lowkey to match the overall atmosphere of the level and pace of the game while still matching the tone of the locale itself, all of said locales being based on real-world locations in this game in-particular, hence why it is called "Sonic: World Adventure" in Japan.
@@purplecyanblack3805 Sonic takes the proportions of those bipedal Minions that you typically find in areas and yeah it is those that makes those roars or yells when you alarm them, they actually have an ability that Sonic unlocks which includes spinning like a vortex with fists out, think it's Were-Whirl or something.
I personally agree, but there are many tastes out there. That said, I also consider DKC Tropical Freeze the best video game OST, but that's a lot of DKC and David Wise bias on my end.
Ayyyy he’s back at it again with a sonic reaction, keep it up with the amazing reactions. And also you should check out a crush 40 sonic song bc they are goated to listen too
Since you mentioned Nile Rodgers.. he's actually produced and distributed video game soundtracks through his label Sumthing Else Music Works for 20+ years.
Sonic Unleashed has some awesome music, but I'm a little worried that only Skyscraper Scamper, Windmill Isle, and Cool Edge might be officially requested. They sound great but the other tracks are so much more unique and interesting, with instruments you don't normally hear in Sonic soundtracks. Arid Sands Day is my personal favorite. Dragon Road is 2nd. Also, nobody in their right mind would ever request it because it's too freaking short, but the results screen music when you get an E rank is just... mwa. Beautiful.
Arid Sands and Dragon Road, both Day, are fantastic tracks, but sadly, both Cool Edge Day AND Night are stone if my up favorite Sonic tasks in the show franchise, like, top 10.
Other commenters can correct me if I’m wrong on this. But IIRC, all the tracks related to a single continent are done by one composer. (e.g. Spagonia, both its respective day & night hub world tracks; as well as its Rooftop Run day & night level tracks are all composed by Tomoya Ohtani).
Hey there, Jesse! Binged your stuff once again after a while and caught up on the stuff I know. Nice to see Parasite Eve making an appearance, that one surprised me. Here's hoping for Primal Eyes from that game. Okay, so Borderlands is a pretty famous series, of course, but how often do people bring up its OST? If some of these make the list someday, I'd be really happy. Until then, I hope your fellow listeners will find these interesting. Cheers! Next, I'm gonna check out your FFVII OG let's play. Should be fun =) Definitely adding my voice in recommendation for FFX. You'll never forget it.
I've always liked this song. And I could never tell if it was inspired by or was outright using the Mystic Mansion at lighter section at 2:08, from Sonic Heroes. I remember playing Unleashed for the first time and stopping mid-level to go "Wait, that's Mystic Mansion isn't it?"
Dark Gaia's Minions are animalistic and Sonic got infected by the primordial being's essence, the whole game was about Eggman releasing it for unlimited power and Sonic goes through a painful process, he is the only one that gets affected like that.
The night themes were great for the style of game the night portions of Unleashed was. If you weren't wailing on enemies to the jazz battle theme, you were finding switches, pushing blocks, pulling levers, and doing slower-paced parkour. It was a far cry from the usual, speedy Sonic we all know, and it was by and large the BIGGEST reason people hated Unleashed back in the day. Now it's just ignored save the die-hards that will say it scratches the beat 'em up itch (like me :P) I recommend Blue Star or E-102's Theme from Sonic Adventure for the next episode of genre exploration with Sonic the Hedgehog

Sonic Unleashed has the best soundtrack in the franchise. I am not open to criticism
Sorry but no (imo) not in a world where Sonic 2, 3 & Knuckles, Mania, Adventure 2, Generations, Colours, 3D Blast (Genesis) and 06 all exist.

Sonic music is all over the place cause Sonic goes to many different places. So they make all types of different music to fit the locations.
Try listening to this in the bedroom at nighttime with windows open possibly in winter, rain or fog and it'll hit perfectly.
When you hear the licc you cant unhear it
Just a small correction, Strange Sunset did not come from EX3, it comes from EX Plus Alpha.
