    Sonic Adventure has one of my favorite OSTs ever.
    It was a transitional period for the series where the character designs and series sound were shifting, so its got a blend of OG style Sonic music and the musical direction that the series would stick with through 2006.
    This particular track only plays in like that 25% of the stage, its wild.

    Takes place on an active volcano. The inside tunnels gradually fill up with lava as you traverse. There are some funky prisons there. There are pipes and steam machinery, also steam geysers erupting. On the sides of the mountain you use ziplines and short-flight vertical rockets to move between peaks and up them. Many mobs here have spikes and metal armor.
    Its very much an aggressive level aesthetically, although it does not necessarily provide any super aggressive or cruel mechanics. A sort of "edge of the blade" feel.

    FINALLY SOMEONE ELSE WHO THINKS THE BEGINNING SOUNDS LIKE A CYPRESS HILL SONG. I knew you couldn't steer me wrong Jesse, lol. Sonic Adventure has an extremely diverse soundtrack, so I can't wait for you to hear more from it specifically.
    SA1 has some big stages that are often segmented into multiple areas with different tracks for each. Red Mountain is the stage, but this song plays for the second and last part of the level, when you go down inside the mountain and enter this fiery, magma filled area. The first song for Red Mountain sounds COMPLETELY different to this, other than a slight leitmotif between themes. It just so happens that almost all the videos I send you don't have composer credit in the description, but this game had three main composers: Jun Senoue, Fumie Kumatani, and Kenichi Tokoi. The first theme for Red Mountain is composed by Kenichi Tokoi, but this track was composed by Jun Senoue, who's been working on Sonic music since Sonic 3 and is one of the two members of Crush 40.

    It was Jun Senoue who was the lead composer for the series from the late 90s all the way up until the mid 2000s, and he still makes music for the series to this day
    He's also the guitarist in Crush 40, a band mostly known for making Sonic Music (I'm sure you've reacted to some of their songs by now, they made Live & Learn)
    This game specifically came out way back in 1998, and it's got such a 90s vibe to it, definitely one of my favorite sonic games, especially in terms of it's soundtrack

    This was always a song and stage that kind of creeped me out when I was very little, but then ended up becoming a regular in my day-to-day listening later in life. Some music can be appreciated when you're little (obvious ones like Open Your Heart, Live and Learn, What I'm Made Of, etc.), but some songs really need a bit of life experience to enhance the flavor of it.

    There are plenty of fantastic tracks from sonic adventure, adventure 2 and sonic heroes(and shadow the hedgehog). All these games came out around the year 2000 so there is tons of that 90s rock feel left in it before it started picking up the more orchestral stuff in the 2010's. Which is still great.

  • @Heathenshalt
    @Heathenshalt 18 днів тому

    Sonic Adventure 1, 1998, was resident Sega rock composer Jun Senoue's first gig as lead composer/lead guitarist and it REALLY shows. It has that feel of the nervous excitement and giddiness of someone who was given his first chance to commercialize his own art project entirely and it's basically his love letter to all the music that ever excited him, just in case he never got the chance to do it again. He pulled out all the stops to do as many genres as possible and fill them with as many riffs, counterpoints, leads, instruments, etc as humanly possible. He didn't even care about always matching the speed or feel of the level, just doing something new at every turn. That's why it's my favorite Sonic soundtrack, because it has that personality, and the most diversity and best instrumentals in the series. I don't think he ever matched up to this one again but all his soundtracks up to Shadow the Hedgehog still were carried well, I mean even Shadow had him experimenting with some new stuff like detuned guitars, effected leads, even a purposely more lo fidelity sound to make it grittier. At 14 this was my favorite game soundtrack. Seminal in my start to music which is when I first started drum lessons
