    I've seen cowboy mechanics and cowboy mechanics that didn't know what they were doing and now I have seen Norfolk Caveman. You never even put the engine into cold start to get her going! Yes, I ran an ST2 as a beach winch engine for recovering boats for 10 years!

    Greetings from Texas I have a few of the ST lister engines which are extremely rare. one specimen an ST1 attached to a pressure washer was governed to 950rpms for 10hp which is amazing for run time we figured the engine burned about a thimble of diesel for every hour under load the others I have are going to be for generator service.

    Starting... those engines and the older and smaller SR series usually have a raised hand start which runs off the flywheel. The camshaft on the other end which you were trying to start from runs at half the speed.
    Also it looks like you don't have the fuel return piped up, there's a hole in the top of the tank which is fitted with a gromit which is where the return goes. With the price of fuel at the mo it's worth getting this rigged up. Also doesn't make a mess of the carpet 😀

    I think your reduction on the front end is the camshaft which I think is two to one on the crank. I dumped an engine like this a while back or you could have had the bits. I will have a scout round for the deco levers. Cheers. AH just noticed this was two years ago.

    I was watching you with those decompressor levers, and as soon as it started firing you pulled them upright to the decompress position. With electric starting you should not need to use them as they are for hand start only. The run position is with them down the star upright and with the two cylinders there should be a link between them. The hand start is very often off the cam shaft There are two positions for the shaft opposite end from the flywheel straight off the crank and off the cam shaft which is half engine speed, you can shift them over as the shaft extension fits both the crank and the cam all you need is a new bearing and seal if you are careful with extraction of the original you can get away neither I have swopped them over on many occasions with both lister and petter.

    • @NorfolkMancave

    Aren't the threads on the studs 5/16 inch UNF and that bolt you got an M8 (feels like it'll start but goes stiff like threads are gummed up), so because the studs are too long wouldn't some 5/16" X 1,1/2" UNF bolts with spring washers finish your starter motor installation? Also the starter motor adapter flange isn't uncommon (could be factory (special order) or could be aftermarket (cross reference)), was this engine attached to a pump or generator as the high idle speed is common for them sorts of operation.

    • @NorfolkMancave
      @NorfolkMancave  2 роки тому +1

      Well I took the stud up the local nut and bolt company and they sorted them all out.. The tiny bolt for the control box made them scratch there head. Turns out they were BA thread.
