First heard this when it was used in Magnum PI in the 80's. I never knew it was Genesis, but somehow the tune stayed in my head for a looong time. Decades later, recovering from massive heart surgery, I couldn't do much more than move my thumbs, but somehow this came up on my player, and a missing piece of a very old puzzle finally fell into place. I was Gobsmacked. So beautiful. So powerful. It felt like a message: Get up. You're not done yet. Start living again. Funny how the Universe works....
Love this! ❤thanks for sharing
Thank you for sharing! This song struck a chord with me as a youngster as well.
I have a family member from an older generation going through the same recovery with the same issues and I'll definitely look for songs from their era that might motivate them. Live long and prosper! 🖖
The episode was Unfinished business.
Totally
I too heard it first on Magnum pi. But I saw it in the 90s as a kid as I was born in 87. I loved it. Was in my head forever until one day I found it. Never gets old. Really makes you think and reflect.
Only heard about this because my dad played it on his massive stereo and I instantly gained respect for Phil Collins. To this day, Invisible Touch is one of my favorite albums of all time.
There isn't really any other song like this in the entire Genesis catalogue.
The back story to this song is incredible. I wish I could remember the interview I watched where Phil Collins shared how this compilation came to be so I could share it with you. The short story, Phil was jamming out, waiting for the rest of the crew to show up, as each member came in to the studio, they joined the jam and "The Brazilian" was birthed.
says you!
"Do The Neurotic" has some similar percussive stuff going on
Although Los Endos is diferent both are special
.....Duke'sTravel too...
The Phil/Chester drumming duet for this tune during the Visible Touch tour were a sight/sound to behold. Happy days 😊
Amen to that! I saw them in Virginia on that tour. It is still one of my favorite experiences in my long life!!
@@beverlykrebs4372 Same here, saw them in Sydney on the same tour, absolutely brilliant!
Glasgow (Hampden Stadium) for me 👍
One of the best final tracks of an album
Growing up in the 80’s two of my favorite TV shows was Magnum PI and Miami Vice. Phil guessed starred on an episode of Miami Vice as well as music for that episode but it was the Magnum PI episodes featuring Tonight, Mama, and The Brazilian I remember most fondly.
I heard this tune on magnum pi about 20 years ago. Stuck in my head for years. Then one day randomly it came on in a playlist and I was stunned to learn it wasn't just some background track to Magnum. Shows how amazing it is that I could hear it when I was about 6, and recollect it after two decades.
What memories this song brings forth….In high school back in the 80’s I was on the cross country team. After four years training and racing together we were quite good, we won a lot of big meets my senior year. I discover this song during my senior year and it always brings me back to the all-state meet, my last high school race. The guys on the team put forth an incredible day of racing and we won it all. Everyone ran their best race of the year. It was the last time we all competed together. Bitter sweet for sure. The older I get, the better I was 😅 lol
I loved this song when I first heard it. Was glad to hear Genesis still including instrumentals even on their later albums.
I was watching the film Palm Springs 🌴 (it's on pause right now. Maybe it's sort of an unofficial Christmas movie)?
-Anyhoo, I heard *this music in the background (01:04) and recognized it immediately, but could not for the life of me remember what it was.
I hummed it for Google ( "search for a song" ) and found it immediately !
-I just loved! playing Genesis when I was driving around Oslo (working for the Norwegian government) in the 80's !
-Absolutely great memories that this song brought up 😃
-I just wanted to share 😉
-Merry Yule from Iceland. 🇮🇸
(Christmas is "Jól" in Icelandic. And "hjól" = "wheel")
@@karlbark And to you as well, good sir! 🎅
When you go through an extreme situation, especially a battlefield, This will help you get through the turmoil of every day life. Truly gives you the sense to never give up on hope. I was about two years old and this album came out too. 💯 80s baby
The last instrumental that they would ever make... I just love the sense of melancholy and passion that the screaming guitar part in this song creates, and instrumentals wise, what a way to bow out. Great job! 😎👍🔊🔊
Wrong! They made a couple during the Ray Wilson era.
Yep, one of my favorite Guitar Tones in all rock n roll.
Pele "The Brazilian" Rest in Peace . God Bless Your Family.
Tony! 🎹🥁🎸🎶
Legendary! Such a brilliant masterpiece, and an under-appreciated one. The instrumentals, really iconic, and what a great addition to this album, and what an effort from Tony. All the best legends, a everylasting legacy bringing joy to us all. Long Live Legends. They'll only ever be one Genesis. 👑👑👑
Do you just go to Genesis songs and repeat that they were really good and such? Just curious :).
Genesis super. Всех благ.
@@randomfordmustang2877 They're all good chief, some more than others, and to answer, not all.
"there'll"*
Now if only there was "the Portuguesean" song!
listened to this really really loud a lot as a teenager , so good .
Amazing song ,amazing album perfect 🔥🔥🔥🎤🎤🎶🎶🥁🎸🎹🎶🎶🎶 bravo Genesis 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏❤❤❤
👏🌟🤯 🥰
* standing ovation * 👏 👏👏❤❤❤❤❤
HEADPHONES ON, TOP VOLUME, taking the WILDEST & GREATEST musical trip . SYMPHONIC 🌟❤👏❤ I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS SONG. It's ALWAYS in my top favorites.
The balance of all the instrumental pieces is perfectly harmonious. That China cymbal within the steady & forceful drum beat blows me away. 🤯 I often play this song on loop, sometimes for hours! Genesis genius AGAIN. Legendary Genesis. Thank you thank you to the tremendously talented trio of gents ❤ ❤❤
Exactamente todo éso mismo
I bought "Invisible Touch" when I was around 18, just when it was released. There were some great songs , I did buy it for "Land of Confusion", and there were some mediocre songs. And then it culminated in "The Brazilian". I was awake, I was on the tip of my toes, my heart was beating. That was when Genesis got me. Thanks, Tony Banks!
Phil's drumming on this 🤤
This song! My 12 year old self wore the 2nd side of this tape out between Domino and The Brazilian. Loved seeing this song in their concert set last year!
Two amazing out-worldly song, you had great taste!!
❤
Masterpiece.
Oh my Gaaawwwd, The Brazilian!!! I remember when I listened to this song on my precious audio-tape... it sounded so grown-up to my 12 yo ears 😅 I felt like I was, I don't know... 25! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Really, only 940 likes? It should be 940,000. Great drums 👍👍👍
Genesis is going 2, rise once again like a phoenix rising from the flames 🔥with P'Gabriel on vocals
Excellent re-master! This recording of "The Brazilian" reveals all of the ingredients of the song in a nice wide & deep soundstage. It was fun picking out Tony's layered keyboard parts, he put his synths and sampler through a workout.
"Palm Springs" brought me here and I'm so glad it did

An instrumental inspiration - full of imagination, intrigue and intensity!!
What a great masterpiece...💞💞💞🎶🎶🎶🎸🎹🥁🥁🥁 Love Always to Genesis...
This is absolutely one of my favorites, Phil! I love seeing you perform this one. Man & drums become as one!! It is a thrilling experience ! I am so glad I got to see you & the guys in Charlotte last November. It doesn't seem like it's been a year. I burst into tears when you walked onto the stage. I wasn't expecting to do that - it just happened very suddenly. I think it was because you may not tour again & I knew it may be my last Genesis concert & I never got to meet you in person. You know I have always loved you! (Maybe in the next life! Lol!)💜
But! He had Chester Thompson an amazing session drummer on this also, Chester stayed with the band to the end, I saw many a time, amazing... ❤
Greatest 80s badass music EVER.
I love you Genesis ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

How appropriate given the F1 race of Sao Paulo is this weekend.
RIP Ayrton.
I remember watching the live version of this song on vhs, played the crap out of that concert video.
Best band ever ever
Tony Banks rocks as does this track. Love it live!
Still waiting for a cool game or film Tony can write the soundtrack for🎼🎶
There is a Commodore 64 game called "The Big Deal" that stole a song from Tony Banks back in the 80s, it sounds pretty good though!
@@Schimnesthai yeah, I know they used smilin jack Casey. I'm talking about a game where he gets credits for. Besides, I think his music evolved over the years, so some orchestral themes would fit quite a lot of games.
Edit: there are actually 2 games. The other one published around the same time and is the Amiga version I think. It uses a short instrumental sample of "Lion of Symmetry"
Banks composed the score to a later 80's Kevin Bacon movie, Quicksilver.
Thanks for this Wonderful Song! Greetings from Brazil! I love you Genesis Band!
I found this song after 30 years. Awesome.
The drums are amazing. Doubles on electronic pads back in the day. You had to be so precise. And then THE tune kicks in. What a song. One of my fave Genesis songs...and were going back ALL the way.
Masters of their instruments
One of the Best Musicians in the World.
Really really good ! Exceptional music, futuristic, from another world. Magical. Really Genesis and Phil still THE BEST. We love you ! Thanks forever, from Paris...
N'oublions pas le travail de Rutherford !!!
É lindo!! ❤❤
Best track by album "Invisible Touch"
This is the true origin of Dubstep.
4:06-4:14 Love that guitar riff.
First time I can remember a saw sound being used, so possibly true... but seriously, as a prog rock lover, why would I be interested in dubstep?
The mood of this song is similar to the song Behind the Mask by YMO.
It is interesting to note that the release of Behind the Mask, produced by Phil Collins for Eric Clapton, and this song were released almost simultaneously.
My favorite bit of the album :)
🙌🏼🤍🤍🤍🙌🏼Brilliant love this
Love this song so much, absolute perfection! Proud to be 🇧🇷!
Tony: “So if you like The Brazilian you can buy my solo albums.” [Laughter in the background] Tony: “Which no one does!” [Tony laughs]
Well, I‘ve bought them all, dear Tony. They are an important part of my life, just like all the albums which belong to the Genesis universe.
I'm pretty sure Tony bank's solo albums didn't have this level of percussion on it.
@@manco828 What I posted is an original quote, taken from the Invisible Tour Report, a behind-the-scenes video.
Tony was referring to the general sound and mood of The Brazilian which is typical “Tony-esque”.
Such an underrated song from such an epic group of musicians, not just Genesis but everyone involved in Genesis. Tony Banks is just as much as incredible an artist as the rest of them. Every single one of them talented, gifted, amazing m************. It's only a shame too many people don't realize what they're missing out on. Genesis and every artist involved with it are a piece of important, incredible, legendary musical history. I am at least happy that 1) I found and married my true love who also loves Genesis and good music, 2) we made two awesome humans who also appreciate such great music, and 3) My husband and I got to live out a childhood dream of dancing together at a live Genesis concert to "Follow you, follow me". I do really wish they had played this song then during their tour, but it was still the most amazing experience we will never forget. GENESIS FOREVER ❤️
Palm Springs brought me here! ❤
Thomas Magnum sent me here.
Claaaaaaaaasssss👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
The guitar at the ending is truely epic.
Un chef d'œuvre

Salut,puis-je te demander ce que tu veux dire ? Tu aimes ou pas ?? 😁🤔😉👋✌❣🇧🇪
I've judged every stereo system I've ever listened to by how this song sounds on it. Left to right, highs to lows, perfect.
This instrumental captures the 80’s to perfection. You can create a montage in your imagination of all things things that made the 80’s special…I think of neon, DeLoreans & Ferraris, silver mannequins, the toys, the iconic movies and musical artists, cassettes, kids running free outdoors, Nintendo, and the guitar riff towards the end makes me think of our powerful military that led to peace not war and the fall of the Berlin Wall
Just love this song so much!!
Esta tendría que haber sido la música del mundial de Brasil. Desde chico que lo esperaba. No se como no lo hicieron es buenísima y hubiese sido épico.
Nem fodendo
Instrumental épico de una de mis bandas favoritas, maravilloso!
É a cara do Brasil ! 😍
É a minha cara, Amazônia, florestas, animais, samba, Carnaval, alegria! 😍
Essa música é tudo de bom!
Obrigado Genesis!! ❤💖💋💋💋💋

Brazil 🇧🇷 the land of confusion

One of my favorites
Imagine a Progressive Pop record with two instrumentals instead of one. They had should put Do the neurotic instead of In too deep on the record.
I was never a fan of "In Too Deep".
@@Magnum_Opus_1124 Me neither. Although "Do The Neurotic" would have made a much welcome addition to the album! 😃
@@TheReaperMan275 I haven't heard "Do The Neurotic" in years but I am sure it is better than ITD.
I like Invisible Touch overall but I can do without In Too Deep and Anything She Does. If only they found a way to fit Do The Neurotic on the record.
Exactly this!
i was very young when listend to this. at the time it was new and later became a direction i needed to understand. Synths and kicks . i forgot about the guitar solo and it adds to the track AMAZING tingles i got . i just listened and lodes of time has passed 😍

There's a longer version out there with a complete ending (not a live recording, a studio one), featured at the end of the 1990 documentary "Genesis: A History". :)
❤❤❤
Ive long wanted to use this track as the soundbed for a movie concept of mine. Trailer music for certain. but the visuals must live up to the audio and thats saying alot with this track.
Fell in love with this brilliant instrumental some in an episode of magnum pi season 8
First time hearing this I was 13..and David Copperfield played this during one of his Illusianist acts....
When I first heard The Brazilian in Palm Springs I honestly thought it had been written within the last five years. It's that timeless. At least to me.
And all folks remember is invisible touch, not the rest of the brilliant album , they really are the goat.
Interviewer: I want you guys to play The Brazillian.
Mike: OOOH, Tony really likes that one!
Tony: HAHAHAHA LET'S DO THE BRAZILLIAN GUYS HAHAHAHAH
*Tony starts changing the world as we know it, the music is filled with weird chords, the sour turns to sweet, everyone gets EPPING FORESTED and A FLOWER?*
Just dont ask me to give myself a Brazilian

This song reminds me of Terminator 2. I accidentally discovered this album during the summer of '91 and just forever associated it with the movie. Kind of has a mechanical tone, doesn't it?
