I agree with many of the comments here but let's give some love to Tony Banks too. He creates worlds of atmosphere with his keyboard work.
This is much more a Tony Banks song than a Phil Collins or Mike Rutherford song. You can tell with the complexity of the chords and the musical progressions.
With headphones on, you can hear the brilliance of this tremendously talented trio. this song is so awesome!

Phil's voice, with it's emotion & intensity in his lyrics. He just catapults the magnificent melodic compositions Mike & Tony so brilliantly crafted. Phil's drum combinations perfectly guide the song through also. You can hear the electronic drums perfectly mixed in throughout.
Love the instrumental section too. WELL DONE GENTS! This song is just awesome!

Percussionist is a very underrated way to say that Phil Collins is an incredible drummer, singer, song writer, and he wasn't terrible as an actor either. 😆

I love how powerful Phil's voice here
You probably know that Genesis, along with Phil, Tony and Mike, sold their entire record collection (except for the Peter era) for $ 300 million. This may mean that we will see some new recordings in the future. :) That's why all the more we really deserve the thanks to the team that we can have a chance to see something new, and this whole great collection will not go to the grave. :)
I did not know, but considering Phil's health issues, good luck to them all. Wonder why Peter didn't want to be part of it??

Legendary! Honestly this album has to be one of their best work and most successful, espically with each track being a hit! Tonight, is literally a song that'll get stuck in your head for years to come, and one of my favorites in Genesis. What a track. The lyrics, instrumental, emotion and so much more. Dude invisible touch album shock the world when it was released in June 1986. I'm a huge Genesis fan. Man they had tons of hits and hidden Gems. Phil Collins and Genesis were so freaking awesome. That whole era was magical the 1980s.

I had this album on cassette tape in the 80's, and then on CD in the 90's. I love Phil Collins and Genesis. This is such a timeless classic. This is just more absolute prof that the 80's was truly epic. Thank you.

Almost every time I play Tonight, Tonight, Tonight, I reminisce about Graduation Night; June 4, 1987: I couldn't get a cap & gown (my dad and family siblings claimed they ain't had no $$!); the Friday night after, Friday Night Videos was on the TV, and I eventually, broke down & cried a little while!!

I went to two shows in Leeds and London for the invisible touch tour, first time keeled over with sunstroke and went from right in front of the the stage to the side of roundhey park which was a better view for the full experience with the lights etc,seen them in Liverpool Oct just gone still great.
"Tonight" along with so many other of their songs, has a creative, indelible/unique Genesis thumbprint on the music industry.

I grew up listening to all of this Rock and Progressive Rock music. My mom played piano when I was a kid and loved all sorts of music, including Genesis. I'm certain listening to these guys and Collins' solo work is why I learned to play drums all through grade school and junior high band.

As others have said, album released in '86, consequently the singles weren't released until early '87. Everything that Phil touched in or out of Genesis turned to gold during this two year window (just before Live Aid Summer of '85, to mid to late '87)
I didn't know the album cut of this song was over eight minutes long. This was the first time I had heard this song this way and I loved it!! Prior to hearing this I was used to the radio version and I really love it too!!

I swear I heard this at a rave in England in 1989 . That and for sure I heard in the air tonight at sunrise air hanger when they opened the hanger doors and the sunrise was coming up. Was the most surreal moment in my life , 25,000 ravers stopped wondered wtf and then just waving their hands until the drums kicked in and the place went mental. Love you Phil thanks for the memories in music. Tonight tonight tonight is my all time favorite Genesis track the bridge into the next chapter of the song and back is one of the best I've ever heard.
