I used to not like these replicas but after learning how much time and effort is put into making them as accurate to a modern day recreation as possible, I have to respect them.
And considering they can often perform better than the original says something too. At the end of the day, the driving engagement and experience is what matters the most with a car (and I think this is especially prevalent when an original cannot be driven at all.)
You can tell this is one of those cars thats dialed in all around to be perfectly balanced as a car, and it's an absolute joy to drive regardless of what kind of drive you want to have at that moment. Edit: Something about leather strap(s) and a buckle instead of hood pins or other components elsewhere just adds a lot for me. It feels hand made with care when there's details like that.
Yeah, the stance is a little wonky but I can overlook that when considering the entire package. This car doesn't need a stereo. It makes it'ss own music. Excellent video, brother.
Ain't nothin' wrong with the look of that stance, if ya know why it's that way. Because the suspension set-up including that stance is perfect for wide-open throttle, whether it be a dig/launch off the line at the drag strip or coming off a turn & laying into it for a long high-speed straight-away, the Corvette squat is damned hard to beat.
I don't care what anyone says, absolutely nothing sounds as killer as a well-built, well-tuned, normally aspirated hi-hp V8. And they are proven to run so consistently strong. ........especially during a long run or race.
If i had the bucks up and drive it daily , yes i would have music in it. Not hard to turn it off if you are enjoying the engines music at that moment. Better to have it and not need it than needing it and not having it. Beautiful car and sound this one has.
best of both worlds with this kit car ,you can go on the road and rip it up and slap on a set of all terrain tyres and go off road ,plenty ground clearance
That’s a gorgeous car. 500 to the tire in a car that will carve canyons the way that one will is way more than enough. People don’t realize how fast the old 2 liter European cars were on a curvy road or a tight road course.
Only thing its missing is a racy idle. Way too smooth for me given what the car is trying to be. Great power level though...dont like the way most high dyno # cars drive
What a beautiful all-around, well sorted and beautiful ripper!!! Just docile enough for the street and enough modern amenities to make for a wonderful day of cruising!!! Hawk-Tuah!!!
They did an amazing job building that car. Classic vintage, with just the right modern tricks to make that car an everyday/track driver. I would never want to stop driving that car. I could get in, gas it up, have a pocket full of cash and being that I live in Los Angeles, I could jump on either the beginning of the 10 Freeway in Santa Monica and drive to Florida, or at that same spot Pacific Coast Highway also is where the 10 starts its Eastbound run but PCH goes either North or South along the California coast and I'd end up in Baja California, Mexico, in about 2½ hours or the other direction I'd end up at the Oregon State line in about 14 hours. I'd be happy either way.
Fav drive late 80s was go north on pch, go up to Buellton to Andersens (closed now)...in tfhe morning where its a little overcast...then back to Zuma, hit the waves then Topanga back to Chatsworth.
@@gordocarbo --- I've made that drive hundreds of times, no exaggeration. Sometimes, coast up and then back or 101 up and coast back or coast up to Sam Marcos Pass through the mountains. Besides growing up a mile from the beach in LA near LAX, and surfing upband down the coast, my dad lived in Lompoc for a couple of years and my best friends family had moved to Santa Maria when we were in Jr high so I would be driving up there all the time. Then I moved to the Bay Area for 17 yrs and I would take 101 once in a while but usually the 5 because it was faster. I saw one of these in sunny Scottsdale Arizona, going down the road, it was during the time Barrett Jackson was having their auction. It was pretty cool.
I've never been much of a follower but I have to agree with you Shaun. I would also prefer changing the stance of the car to get rid of that squat in the back. In the original race footage at 1:38 min. of your video the Vette didn't have that squat going through the corners.
This car has a softer composite rear spring for road driving. It also helps the car really hook up. You can order whatever stiffness you want in the composite rear spring.
Even regular production Corvettes were 4 wheel disc, standard, by 1965. You could get a '65 with drums, but it was only with a delete option for discs, and then only while the factory had the drum set ups on hand.
Love all your stuff and showcasing these amazing, functional pieces of art and horsepower. That rear suspension and rearend is wild…is that period correct for that whole rear end setup?
You're usually nice when it comes to driving the cars. I could tell you couldn't resist but to put your foot down on this one. You got on it a little bit. I would have too. That's a nice Corvette. My favorite part was when you said "God, I hate this car because I'm starting to fall in love with it!" Great presentation! I love when you do Corvettes! 👍

I would love to see a REAL Grand Sport replica with a period correct engine package, since the LS platform wasn't even thought of yet. The engines don't sound the same because the firing orders and engine architecture are different. If this builder is truly talented, build a period correct engine and listen to the difference.
