I read Assasins Blade first and will die on this hill that it should be read first.. breaking the flow to throw that in at some other point is so weird to me especially considering how the endings of Sarah's books always have so much going on. I think knowing about her past is a great place to start, and as you start meeting new characters in throne of glass/crown of midnight you understand why shes guarded and not wanting to share the past (that you already know at this point) and so when she finally does share it feels like you can breath again with her. AND since she keeps secrets from even the reader, its nice to know something about her LOL
I get both sides of this. I read it first both times I read this series and I think I’ll always read it first. The tandem read was so fun though and because of it I loved Tower of Dawn! Highly recommend
@@StarflowerStablesme too… crown of midnight and tower of dawn were my 2 faves. Unpopular opinion, but heir of fire was at the bottom for me, next to AB.
Your expressions at around 13:00 to 13:16 is exactly why I love reading. The other day my 6 year old daughter wrote in her journal, “I love reading because it is like watching TV in my head” #proudmommoment 🥲
Yeah I love that innermovie too 🥰 My mum she always had to hide me book during bed time... but I always waited when my parents fell asleep and took that book back 🤣🤣🤣
I started ACOTAR last week. I have been out of reading for a long while, but I've missed it so much. I kept trying to start books including Thrown of Glass and honestly it was a struggle. I am already sucked into ACOTAR and am enjoying it so far. I am brand new to Maas universe but I'm excited to be apart of it and leap in. :D Also, love your video.
I have just started ACOTAR last week after being out of reading for a long time two and I am also hooked, just starting ACOMAF (book 2) how are you finding it?
@MissEmilyRose I am more then halfway through a court of mist and fury and I just hit the good part. Omg wow. I super love it. I'm nervous to make it to the next book. It's beefy. I do love how Maas tells a story though. I don't understand why people are bored at all, I love getting to know characters and everything building the plot. I'm pretty easy to please I think overall story wise. Lol.
Listened to ACOTAR as audiobooks (not the audio drama, that was too much for me) 😂 but I was done with all books under two weeks! They are a VERY nice fantasy read if you haven’t done so for a long time or are just getting into the game 🙌
I did all of acotar in a month, my husband loved me telling him the plots and so he just got ne the entire tog set to read together. Thus was so helpful, thank you!
This was so well done and comprehensive! I personally chose to read empire of storms and then tower of dawn (SJM’s recommended and intended reading order) and really like it! By the time EOS was done I was beyond irritated with Aelin’s secrets and arrogance and kind of burnt out of the constant action, so TOD felt like a nice change of pace :)
Then there's my reading order. Read Acotar some years ago but didn't finish Silver Flames. Read the the 2 Crescent Cities last year. Decided to try to read the Throne of Glass series in January before Crescent City 3. Got through 3 books a part of Assassins blade. Decided to reread Acotar 1 and 2. Currently reading Crescent City 3 and will go back to read Silver Flames and the rest of Throne of Glass😅
I agree with you 100% on the read order. I started with ACOTAR and this series got me back into reading. I then went on to Throne of Glass and had a bit of a hard time with it throughout but I will have to reread it. I am now on Book 2 of Crescent City and I was very lost at first. If it hadn't been for the other two series and reading up on how the books are within the same universe but different worlds I wouldnt have continued it.
I've started "Throne of Glass" and divided each book into chunks, so my daily goal is to read one chunk to maintain my motivation. I'm on the first book and currently at chapter 26. It's not bad, but it takes me a few pages to really concentrate. I usually read a lot of romance, and the romance in this book is almost non-existent 😂. This is my first book by Sarah J. Maas, and I'm also a rookie in fantasy. I’m not sure why I chose "Throne of Glass" instead of "ACOTAR"-maybe I wanted to read everything in order 😅.
I started with Crescent City series first and I loved it!!! I Just started ACOTAR and honestly it is taking me longer than CC. I have put it down to read other books. CC was just that good it keep me reading well into the night and going right to the next book. I am so pleased to hear she is continuing the series ✨🤍
It's so good! I felt the same way about not being able to put the CC books down. She does a REALLY good job about not making the books feel like they’re as long as they are… they fly by!
Hi !! I've reached CC3 unknowingly that it has an acotar crossover. But I'm really scared if it'll spoil acotar if I read CC 3 further , so I would like to ask ..can I continue CC 3 and then I'll read acotar after House of flame and shadow..
@aradhanabhola7549 it will not spoil! The most recent ACOTAR book takes place before CC3, I will actually advise you NEED to read ACOTAR before CC3, or the entire ACOTAR series will be spoiled for you…
I'm saving your video for later. I just started with ACOMAF and I love it. Glad I've started with the romance fantasy first 😄This reading order will definitely help, so thanks! :)
I didn't know it was an extended universe when I picked up CC. I loved the series so much. I had heard that ACOTAR and others were mid. I just found out about TOG. If you are an avid reader, CC is fun. It keeps you engaged, and it's so good. I started reading it because I wanted something that would take me some time to read and would hold my interest. Some fantasy books feel like a quick snack. CC is a complete meal.
I did not do the tandem read and I don't regret it, because ToD is such a beautiful book on its own! but it was really hard to get into it in the first 200 pages. I would've preferred to read ToD before EoS and just not read the last chapter. I would not have wanted to skip to ToD while reading EoS, but I get why people do the Tandem Read! I can't wait to start CC!!
@rs-gv6dx Thank you for sharing your opinion! You have no idea how happy I am to hear that someone else loves TOD as much as me! I honestly think it doesn’t get the love it deserves… I hope you love the CC books! I know they have been such a fun and wild ride for me!
Yeahh I really liked it! I didn’t like Chaol before, but I like him since ToD! But I love HoF, QoS, KoA, and EoS more than ToD but it’s still a 4.75 star read for me :)) I really hope I get into CC as well!
I really loved this video!! So helpful… I have 200 Pages in ACOSF and already bought the first 3 books in ToG. So looking forward to it & seeing what else you post on this channel 🎉 great job!!!
I am so excited to start these! I am wrapping up, and prob have months to go still, all of the Shadowhunter books this year and Maas is my next in line to go through! Thank you for this, def following your order suggestions!
Thank you so much! I just finished the ACOTAR series and my heart needs help, so I’m picking up TOG. I’m so excited because they told me the hugest spoiler from it 😭❤
Assassins Blade will always be first in my book, I did not care for ToG or CoM and could not get into the series because of ToG! But when I read AB first instead it helped me a bit so I can get to HoF which is where the series really takes off in my opinon! :)
I was completely new to fantasy and read AB first before the other books and I will die on a hill that is the best way to read the series. You become so attached to the main character and her story from the get go and you understand why she is the way she is. Without that beginning I wouldn’t have been so hooked on her. I think ACOTAR is a bit fun but it’s not as much of a page turner as the ToG series. ToG has payoffs in every book so you don’t get impatient. I actually never wanted the series to end! ACOTAR felt like there were a lot of obvious choices made for the story line whereas ToG I didn’t know what to expect the whole time! Absolutely incredible series
Girl, this was so helpful to someone that is just embarking on this fantasy journey. I love reading but want to try something new, I’m on Acotar atm so just a newbie. I loved you video and how you explained things, thank you ❤
Excellent review Ruby, very helpful, and no spoilers. Just subscribed! I'm currently on the second book of the acotar series... and that's all I've read so far, but I was curious about the others. Thanks again! 😊
@@RubyJeanReads I finished it shortly after watching your video! I am currently halfway through ACOWAR and am REALLY enjoying this one- was hooked immediately and have not been bored once! 😃
I don’t read, reading has always been stressful because id watch all the kids i my class flip the page before I was barely halfway done. Now I’m 32 and my wife and toddler LOVE reading, and so I sought to find something thatd interest me (I like GOT, HG, HP, etc but only the tv/movies because again i don’t read)… I stumbled upon the concept of the tandem read from someone I follow, and after researching more about TOG, I was interested in trying it out. I started in July 2023, crawled my way through half of the book, and then took a hiatus due to football starting, then procrastinated picking it back up finally this past August I am so happy to say that I finished it, and then read and LOVED CoM. So much that I HAD to find someone recapping it just to make sure that I read the reveal right!!! Thank you for your youtube channel. I know the tandem read may be a year or two away for me but I am AMPED to get there. KoA is a little intimidating but I feel determined. Thanks again! Also, I just commented on your most recent spotify episode, but wanted to add more so here we are
I just finished acotar.. thrilled to know there will be more. 😊 I already planned to read TOG next. However I took a break and reading the shatter me series currently. But I plan on reading the rest of her books SOON. 😊
Thank you for his video. I am new to fantasy and bought all three series. I was going to start with Throne of Glass, but now will begin with ACOTAR. And thanks for the tip on the tandem read. Bookmarking the chart link right now.
This is such a helpful guide, smashed through ACOTAR series now on TOG and just started Heir of Fire after Assassin’s Blade as per your recommendation and I’m glad I did I found TOG and COM slow paced. Pleased it’s picked up by looking back at her history before going into HOF, excited for the rest of the series now!
This is a fantastic guide!! I have been considering getting into fantasy, having really only done YA fantasy previously and kind of burning out on it when YA became everything vampire/werewolf/angels. 😅 Definitely will be considering starting with the ACOTAR series first. I’ve also never heard of doing a tandem read before and I’m honestly super intrigued by the idea.
Thank you for making this! Sometimes it's hard to find info that is spoiler free! I just finished the ACOTAR series and was trying to figure out what was next. I think something worth mentioning I learned from lurking through the ACOTAR reddit is that there are some bonus chapters that are only in some versions of the ACOTAR books! I found links on reddit to read them since they weren't in the copies I read!
@@RubyJeanReads that would be super helpful! I wish I had known about the bonus chapters sooner because I would have liked to have read them in tandem with the pace of series. Hindsight, I'll have to check for them when I read TOG and CC.
I am soooo glad I read the throne of glass in the order you suggested. It was an accident. I read the first 2 books and didn’t like the lead girl at all. Then I jumped to crescent city but it was too much. So I decided to come back and decided maybe I should get that assassin blade book….maybe I missed something. Now I love it. After reading in that order, I see why reading in that order is best
I read TAB after Heir of Fire and it was perfect. Kept the secrets for Heir of Fire and made the references in Queen of Shadows obvious. (Read it as fourth book because a friend recommended it.)
This actually makes me relieved I bought ACOTAR before TOG because I was debating between the two! I'm really interested in getting all three of the series. I have yet to finish ACOTAR but I'm really looking forward to it now ✨ (My wallet is sobbing waterfalls after this vid)
Your library is your best friend! I bought majority of these books one at a time or even read the ebook the first time then bought it for my reread! Everytime I reread the books I justify the price a little bit more 🤭
None for the first 4 books! There is a a few (1-2 per book) once you get to the last three books, but they are much more tame than ACOTAR. They can also be easily skipped without loosing plot if you chose to do so👍🏼
I actually welcome the Tower of Dawn torture. It’s putting the reader through the experience of the cliffhanger. The difficulty is the sooner you finish it, the sooner the cliffhanger and torture is over… but that’s what makes Kingdom of Ash great. The author, the reader, and Aelin earn it because of Tower of Dawn. I will die on this hill
Male Maasochist here. I loved tower of dawn without the tandem read. Sometimes letting a cliffhanger BE a cliffhanger is a good thing and builds the anticipation that much more.
I got CC1 CC2 and CC3 because the place I get books didn't have the entire ACOTAR series and I have been going through books quickly so I wanted a complete series. I am onto the third chapter and I have been struggling with the world building so I will definitely check out that podcast!
Great video! Thx for the info on the tandem read! it was another personal record for me to read ACOTAR in 5 days - yip, 5 books in 5 days. But that was last week. I'm gonna take my time with TOG♥
Thank you for your video I’m trying to try different book genres. I love reading I can’t wait to start diving into these series. Looks like I’m getting some books for my birthday ❤.
I just finished tog series and i didn’t tandem read. At first i was like no maybe i’m making a mistake. But after reading tower of dawn, it’s such a good read and feels like a good pause and breather before kingdom of ash. ❤ loved the video❤
Ugh! So even though I watched your video before jumping into TOG , I later referenced an image from reddit for the series reading order, because I can't retain information apparently. Anyways, this reddit image said to read "Assassin's Blade" after "Heir of Fire"! Welp, that's the order I accidently followed, and the whole time I was reading AB after HOF was torturus and made no sense. THEN I come back to this video and see you put it after "Crown of Midnight," which makes way more sense in my opinion. YEESH. Long story short to anyone watching this video, don't make the mistake that I did and follow this girl's advice!! Now off to finally read "Queen of Shadows"!! 😅
I love Tower of Dawn! I don't think I'll ever do the tandem read though. I haven't read Assassin's Blade yet. Just ordered CC3 and can't wait to get started.
I love tower of dawn. I tried the tandem and hated it and swapped and I prefer the single read. But chaol is my guy ❤ I love him. I also read AB first and am glad I did. But when I reread I’m going to read AB in your order. But I will never do the tandem lol. Cannot wait to get into CC.
Thanks so much ! I started with acotar and I’m currently reading the second book of crescent city. I maybe should’ve read TOG before starting cc but I’m probs gonna just read it after 😅
@@RubyJeanReads unfortunately i already know the big plot twist at the end thanks to an instagram post by the author 😭 but let me tell you, when i realised what was gonna happen at the end I SCREAMED
Hey ! I'm new to Sarah J Maas and your video is a massive help, thank you sooo much ! I'm off to read ACOTAR, although I'm a fantasy freak and I could totally handle TOG, your video tells me ACOTAR is what I need in my life right now! THANK YOU 💜💜💜🙏 with love France 🇫🇷
@@RubyJeanReads OK I've just finished ACOTAR and.... Wow. The beginning was slow burn for me, I took time getting into the vibe of the book. But then 🤯 my mind was blown and it just went uphill from there. Two days of bliss. And guess what? I want MOOOOOORE ! 😊😄🤩 Starting next book tomorrow! See you soon. Caroline from France 🇫🇷 💜
@@RubyJeanReads oooooh yes I think I heard SJM say as much in an interview... 🤤 and by the way, awesome work making us wanting to discover all these books... without spoilers !!! That is amazing , thank you 👏👏👏
Throne of glass. As for books five and six, I first read the fifth and then the sixth. It was simply impossible for me to follow the complex plans of reading them simultaneously. I am not capable of reading two books at the same time. I don't regret my choice at all. I used the 'pause' in the sixth book as a break. This way, it was easier for me to return to the madness and start book seven.
❤ this video was so helpful , thank you. Finally a book lover video with some personality! Would love to see more videos on other fantasy books you love and the breakdown of the series!
Someone lied to me and my friends and we read CC 1 after ACOTAR series instead of TOG. I got through CC1 on willpower and my love for Supernatural/Fantasy content. It's very much Zootopia meets Season 9 Episode 20 of Supernatural "Bloodlines" mixed with a detective show. I can't wait to get through CC2 and 3 (since I'm already committed and really enjoyed the ending of CC1) and read TOG.
I recently finished reading all three books of the Lord of the Rings series and The Hobbit, and I was looking for something lighter to read. So, I decided to try the ACOTAR series. It was a nice change of pace after reading Tolkien. I then started reading the Throne of Glass series and began with Assassin's Blade. Now I'm onto Throne of Glass. I wish I had watched a this video earlier. I don't really feel like reading CC because modern fantasy isn't really my thing.
If it helps, I’ve always HATED modern fantasy… with a passion 😭 BUT the CC books are honestly so phenomenal that I never really even thought about it again once I started. It truly transports you to another world 🤩
This is so WELL EXPLAINED! I'm reading ACOMAF but really looking forward to read the other two series but I had so many doubts about how to approach them. Thank you so much, I'm suscribing
Thank you for subscribing! I’m so happy I could give you some clarity! I tried to explain all the things I had questions about when I forest started reading SJM in 2021! Please don’t ever hesitate to comment or even DM me if you think of any other spoiler free SJM resources I could create for you to help you jump into this beautiful story 🩵
@@slavicballerina I’m on page 170 and I’m loving it. I read last night the story of Cassian and Azriel and I think I like this book more than the first one, tbh. Also Feyre’s character too, I think she’s more a more realistic character now and ♥️♥️. Are you enjoying Acowar? 😊
I tried to read throne of glass years ago before I knew about acotar, I was probably in middle school or like a freshman in high school. I’m 22 now, I was insanely confused and couldn’t get into it, but excited to try again now that I’ve read acotar, acomaf and soon once I finish the series to start throne of glass again. I still have it sitting on my shelf, can’t wait to see the difference now that I’m much older and I have background
LOL. OOPS. I read ACOTAR 1-3, read CC 1+2, and now I am reading ACOSF before reading CC3. LOL. I have Throne of Glass, but haven't started it, yet. The end of CC2 made me squeeeeeee and inspired me to finish out the ACOTAR series. I had heard from so many people that ACOSF is mostly smut which turned me off, but I'm 60% done and disagree, I haven't been able to put the book down since I started it! If you're on the fence, read it!
So I read ACOTAR first but listened to the first 3 books thru audiobooks, so when I went out to buy the physical copies to be able to just read the last 2, I also bought CC (1 & 2) not even knowing what they were about. I also did not know TOG existed. When I say I was shocked 😂 cuz 1. ACOSF was my FAVE next to ACOMAF so it left me with an extreme book hangover and 2. That meant I was looking for smth similar to replace that and the MODERN fantasy was like WHIPLASH so I was highly confused by that lmao. I’m now halfway thru CC 2 and already bought the 3rd, and I am enjoying it! Still love acotar more so far but the books are good nonetheless. Good plots. I did also just order TOG (all 8 lmao) and I’m very excited for them bc although I love some good smut, I get much more attached and into the plots of it all and I’ve heard that’s what TOG is all about!! ( oh and wanted to say the vid was so helpful for encouraging me to read the 2nd to last couple books in tandem since I had heard of it but wasn’t sure, and also loved to hear I wasn’t alone in the whiplash of CC 😂 and the beginning being so hard to get thru. Subscribed!!)
So glad I found your video. I read and loved Sabaa Tahir « An ember in the ashes » a couple of years ago and reread them in Audible version and was wondering what to read next. Kindle and Audible had SJM series with tons of positive reviews and was wondering where to start. I just borrowed CC1 from the library but now that I’ve watched your video, I’ll follow with your recommended reading order. I’m a beginner fantasy reader and ripped thru Sabaa’s series and I’m getting the vibe I was looking for from you with these books.
i absolutely did not listen to all the videos about how to read the SJM books on the internet... started with acotar and moved straigt to CC because i didn't feel ready to start off with like a whole 8 book series (that everyone who has read it said the books are going to take so much of your tears), and tbh i don't feel like i'm missing out on anything. I was just happy to have finished acotar and CC and now i can take all the time i need for tog without feeling like i'm being rushed or having in mind that there is still another series i have to read as the last. Oh and i also started off tog with the assassin's blade because my mind just woulnd't cope with the fact that i would have to jump back to the past after queen of shadows
im about to figure out how to edit my ebooks so that I can just combine both empire of storms and tower of dawn into one ebook and do the tandem read that way
I'm finishing the last book of Acotar and I loved the series, I was thinking about reading the Throne of glass series... Is Throne of glass books spicy as the Acotar ones?
Not at at!! It’s is extremely tame and the first couple books are actually “closed door.” I will say that the 5th and 6th book do both have a couple, but still more tame than ACOTAR.
@@RubyJeanReads update: I’m reading the throne of glass series (I’m already into the secondo book) and I love it! It’s different from Acotar but it’s nice in is own way. Do you know a Instagram group or something about these books? I would love to have a community
@francesca4569 I couldn’t have worded it better myself!!! I love the “a court of faeries & fangirls” podcast (really great breakdowns as well as opinion sharing and they discuss lots of fun theories!!!) they also have a really good Instagram and they repost a ton of other SJM related content, so you will get exposed to a ton of other great insta communities there too!
Too late on the Assassins Blade as I started with that book, though SJM’s explanation does make sense. I have all of the series on Kindle and annotated when to flip between the tandem read books but I haven’t been completely sold yet so I haven’t binged the whole series. I will complete it though, I just don’t know when.
New subscriber here! I’m so glad I found your video on how to read the Throne of Glass series. I had already read ACOTAR through to ACOSF and all three CC books, so I’m not going to be able to follow the exact path you laid out 😊. Great video!
Omg….. having read soooo many fantasies I still struggled so much CC because it’s just so different and freakinshly humongous. I’ve had the third book ever since it came out but I don’t have the guts to pick it up because I’ve heard it leaves you l with a crazy cliffhanger AGAIN and idk if I can do it 😭
I read them all in order of publication but also I didn’t have a choice the first go around since ACOMAF had just come out when I first picked up the series. I read AB after Crown of Midnight which worked out fine. I really think when you read that is just a matter of choice. I’ve reread with AB first and I liked that fine too
Fourth Wing is great! Not - best book ever - like you hear it hyped up to be, but it’s good! On the other hand… Iron Flame could not have been more disappointing to me… BUT I know this is a fairly controversial opinion since most people love both books!
I've read Throne of glass first as a casual reader so it literally took me almost 2 years but it's forever living in my brain rent free. It's a matter of heart. Then I read ACOTAR and although the first book was not enjoyable for me, the rest of the series is 15/10 for me and I'm debating rereading it asap because I miss Velaris and the inner circle so much I can't even explain. I'm getting myself ready to read CC but I've been waiting because I heard that the ending of CC2 is insane from EVERYONE and I was not willing to suffer for that long 😂😂😂😂😂
My story is basically copy/paste like yours! TOG took me forever because I was reading casually… ditto everything you said about the ACOTAR series… but I finished CC2 7 months before CC3 came out… it was torture! 🤣 but it gave me just enough time to frantically reread all the books!
Sounds great, lol. I'm waiting for CC3 to be translated to my language since English is not my first language and I do read in English but huge fantasy books are simply a different level. 😂 Until then I'll try to re-read ACOTAR, in English, since I'm so immersed in the fandom that I think second time around I might be able to enjoy the original versions without frantically translating words 😂 and then I'll read CC and after that I'll probably reread Throne of glass because it's the best fantasy series I've ever read and it deserves a reread because my memory sucks. 😂❤️
ACOSF is by far the BEST one in the series. And honestly Mass should have made it its own series. Nesta’s story line and abilities had far too much potential to shorten into one book.
I read The Assassin’s Blade after Heir of Fire and it was a really nice transition into Queen of Shadows because a lot of the background info was picked right back up in QOS. However the assassin’s blade was really boring and I sped through it because I felt like I knew everything that happened already and didn’t care.
Thank you so much for this!! I want to read Acotar so bad but because im a teenager my parents dont want me reading this book😭 so im going to start off reading Tog and maybe read crescent city after I read Acotar at some point in time. Thanks again!
Hii I’m not really interested in ACOTAR but I’m loving ToG (currently reading crown of midnight). I am interested in CC, do I really have to read ACOTAR before I can read CC?
I hate to tell you this… But you could read CC1 without reading ACOTAR… But you will be seriously confused if you don’t read avatar before reading CC2 and CC3.
I finished all of acotar a few months ago but just started cc1. I’m having such a hard time getting into it, so I’m glad you said to just get past the first 5 chapters! Should I stop reading it and start tog though?
Yay!!!!! I hope you just FALL in love with the series 🥰 (and of course I do have my tog book break down episodes if you want to watch those as you read 💖)
I SO agree with Assassin's Blade third, also just about to start the tandem read (after I finish another book because I'm trying to draw out the tog reading process lol) and I'm so scared/excited!! great video btw😁
Thank you so much!! I hope you enjoy the tandem read! I know I did 🥰 and I totally understand drawing it out! My first time reading the series, I made it last me over a year!
Thank you so much, I have been wanting to read this series and I wanted to know the best way to do it and you explained so well and at the same time, didn't bore me with the straightforwardness that other channels would, again thank you and I am planning to read them whenever I can get my hands on them!
Some read The Assassin's Blade after Heir of Fire. (The Romantic reading order places The Assassin's Blade at the point where it'll make the most emotional impact for you.) I read it first because I bought the 8 book box set, and it was the first book. I will most likely read it first in rereads.
I am working my way through ACOSF as we speak and so nervous to start TOG, especially with the tandem. I read the first two TOG books a million years ago when I was in high school and remember not caring for them, but after adoring ACOTAR, I’m willing to give them another go. But the tandem has me nervous. And the placement of Assassins Blade being so up for debate is also making me uncomfy. Lol!
Thank you for this guide. I’ve been on a reading hiatus so I’m easing my way back into a fantasy world again. Last fantasy type series I read was the mortal instruments 10 or more years ago😂
I’m on chapter 39 of Kingdom of Ash. 😭 I can’t read it fast enough. I didn’t feel as attached to this series until the tandem read. Omg now I understand the build up it really gets you invested by Kingdom of Ash.
@@RubyJeanReadsidk what it is about mates but the deep romance of a couple being mated just feels so intense! I looooved that in Acotar and I was flabbergasted we got a mated couple in TOG. 😍

I get this point. I would be interested to hear SJM articulate her exact opinions as to why she recommends reading it third and not first.
I read it third and wish I read it first
I get both sides of this. I read it first both times I read this series and I think I’ll always read it first. The tandem read was so fun though and because of it I loved Tower of Dawn! Highly recommend
YES. I have seen people regret NOT reading TAB first, but I have never seen anyone say they wish they would have read it 3rd or 4th.
@@StarflowerStablesme too… crown of midnight and tower of dawn were my 2 faves. Unpopular opinion, but heir of fire was at the bottom for me, next to AB.
Just finished ACOTAR. I haven’t read fantasy for a long time and that got me back in the game! Thanks for showing me what to read next ❤
I hope you love TOG as much as I did 🫶🏼
Who feyre ended up with?
@aviano5 that’s such a great question! You should really read the book 🫢
@RubyJeanVlogs I'm reading the first book and already want her to ended up with tam. Not rhys. Is it a happy ending or bitter sweet 😶
@aviano5 let’s just say some people show their true colors in book two and you will have some VERY big changes of heart 🫢
Your expressions at around 13:00 to 13:16 is exactly why I love reading.
The other day my 6 year old daughter wrote in her journal, “I love reading because it is like watching TV in my head” #proudmommoment 🥲
Hahaha that’s adorable!!! Big props to you for raising a reader! That’s some top-notch parenting 🙌🏼
Yeah I love that innermovie too 🥰 My mum she always had to hide me book during bed time... but I always waited when my parents fell asleep and took that book back 🤣🤣🤣
@FreedomShakerHub me too!!! I didn’t get in trouble much, but when I did it was for reading after my bedtime 🤣
@@RubyJeanReads I think it's best way to get in trouble 🤣
I am new to fantasy, thanks to Forth Wing, so I am planning to start the series this year. Thanks for the video it was a big help.
I’m so glad! If you’re new to fantasy, I’d 100% recommend starting with ACOTAR! I hope you enjoy!!! 🩵
That was the same for me. I read fourth wing and iron flame, and went into acotar and now crescent city
Same I fell in love after reading fourth wing. I picked up so many fantasy books especially all these series she mentioned
I also got introduced to this genre through Fourth Wing!
By the time EOS was done I was beyond irritated with Aelin’s secrets and arrogance and kind of burnt out of the constant action, so TOD felt like a nice change of pace :)
i really adore these kinds of videos, that show catalogues of an author's work instead of individual reviews. youve earned a subscriber
Wow, thank you! 🥹
You amaze and terrify me 🤣 I’m too OCD to jump around like that 🫣
This would kill me :D 🤣🤣🤣
I agree with you 100% on the read order. I started with ACOTAR and this series got me back into reading. I then went on to Throne of Glass and had a bit of a hard time with it throughout but I will have to reread it. I am now on Book 2 of Crescent City and I was very lost at first. If it hadn't been for the other two series and reading up on how the books are within the same universe but different worlds I wouldnt have continued it.
I love how many people have shared that SJM got them back into reading 🥰
I appreciate the work real readers do make it easier for the ppl really trying to get into reading at this intensity- THANKS
This is such a sweet comment thank you ☺️
I've started "Throne of Glass" and divided each book into chunks, so my daily goal is to read one chunk to maintain my motivation.
I LOVE your dedication and am totally invested 😍
I started with Crescent City series first and I loved it!!! I Just started ACOTAR and honestly it is taking me longer than CC. I have put it down to read other books. CC was just that good it keep me reading well into the night and going right to the next book. I am so pleased to hear she is continuing the series ✨🤍
It's so good! I felt the same way about not being able to put the CC books down. She does a REALLY good job about not making the books feel like they’re as long as they are… they fly by!
I also started with CC reading the 2nd atm. Maybe acotar will feel silly after these 😅
The most recent ACOTAR book takes place before CC3, I will actually advise you NEED to read ACOTAR before CC3, or the entire ACOTAR series will be spoiled for you…
@@RubyJeanReads thanku for the heads up!!
I'm consider pausing CC3 now 😭
I'll read the WHOLE acotar first ,then I'll go back to CC3
I'm saving your video for later. I just started with ACOMAF and I love it. Glad I've started with the romance fantasy first 😄This reading order will definitely help, so thanks! :)
I’m so glad!!! 🤩🥰
@SR-gv6dx I really love how SJM captures his healing journey so well! But QOS is TOTALLY my fav 🫶🏼
@@RubyJeanReads yes, I totally agree! KoA is my fav, but I loveee QoS!!
Yes.. TOD is amazing I loved that one. My order does COM, TOD, KoA, QOS, EOS, TOG, HOF, AB
I really loved this video!! So helpful… I have 200 Pages in ACOSF and already bought the first 3 books in ToG. So looking forward to it & seeing what else you post on this channel 🎉 great job!!!
Thanks Jess! I’m glad you liked it! I already know this is going to be such a fun series 💕
ToG is absolutely fucking amazing homie your gonna loooovvveeee it!!!!!

@@RubyJeanReads I’m sure I will :)
Omg ! Watching your video recording of your expression after reading the ending of CC2 was exactly me! 😂😂😂 Omg obsessed.
Bahahaha that one was so fun to film!
Awesome! Thank you! Have not read any of these yet! So helpful and can’t wait to dive in!!!
I am so excited for you! I would give anything to read these books for the first time again 😅
I've never done a tandem read before but you convinced me!! Just finished Queen of Shadows and it was my fave so far.
YES!!! You won’t regret it!!
I loved you video and how you explained things, thank you ❤
Im so glad!!! Enjoy ACOTAR! 🥰
Just started reading ACOTAR, and I am LOVING the world! Bookmarking this for my future reads - thank you!
I love getting lost in ACOTAR! It never looses its ability to transport you, no matter how many times you reread it 🤩
@@RubyJeanReads I can see why!! I’m SO glad I finally gave it a shot - her world building is incredible. Just about to start Wings & Ruin!
Excellent review Ruby, very helpful, and no spoilers. Just subscribed! I'm currently on the second book of the acotar series... and that's all I've read so far, but I was curious about the others. Thanks again! 😊
ACOMAF is so good!!! I hope you enjoy it! 💕
@@RubyJeanReads I finished it shortly after watching your video! I am currently halfway through ACOWAR and am REALLY enjoying this one- was hooked immediately and have not been bored once! 😃
@thethriftyfawn ACOWAR in my opinion is the most underestimated book!! It’s so good 😍
I don’t read, reading has always been stressful because id watch all the kids i my class flip the page before I was barely halfway done. Now I’m 32 and my wife and toddler LOVE reading, and so I sought to find something thatd interest me (I like GOT, HG, HP, etc but only the tv/movies because again i don’t read)…
I stumbled upon the concept of the tandem read from someone I follow, and after researching more about TOG, I was interested in trying it out.
I started in July 2023, crawled my way through half of the book, and then took a hiatus due to football starting, then procrastinated picking it back up finally this past August
I am so happy to say that I finished it, and then read and LOVED CoM. So much that I HAD to find someone recapping it just to make sure that I read the reveal right!!!
Thank you for your youtube channel. I know the tandem read may be a year or two away for me but I am AMPED to get there. KoA is a little intimidating but I feel determined. Thanks again!
Also, I just commented on your most recent spotify episode, but wanted to add more so here we are
This comment and your kind words mean the world to me! I’m so happy for you and your family! Reading is truly a joy and such a fulfilling hobby 😊
I just finished acotar.. thrilled to know there will be more. 😊 I already planned to read TOG next. However I took a break and reading the shatter me series currently. But I plan on reading the rest of her books SOON. 😊
I have been dying to read the shatter me series!!! I hope you love it!
This is my most highly anticipated read!!! Just got ACOTAR last week can’t wait to start this journey!!!

@@RubyJeanReads will come back to update after book two
Thank you for his video. I am new to fantasy and bought all three series. I was going to start with Throne of Glass, but now will begin with ACOTAR. And thanks for the tip on the tandem read. Bookmarking the chart link right now.
Enjoy the Maasverse!! 💕
Yay!!!! Music to my ears 🥰
These series also really helped me transition out of Fantasy YA! I hope you pick them up and really enjoy them!
Love the Star Wars edit at the beginning of the movie!
I couldn’t resist 🥰
Thank you for making this! Sometimes it's hard to find info that is spoiler free! I just finished the ACOTAR series and was trying to figure out what was next. I think something worth mentioning I learned from lurking through the ACOTAR reddit is that there are some bonus chapters that are only in some versions of the ACOTAR books! I found links on reddit to read them since they weren't in the copies I read!
Yes!!! Honestly I could probably do a whole video just about bonus chapters because there are so many!
@@RubyJeanReads that would be super helpful! I wish I had known about the bonus chapters sooner because I would have liked to have read them in tandem with the pace of series. Hindsight, I'll have to check for them when I read TOG and CC.
I started on crescent city. Got hooked on the first two books. Then read ALL of acotar, waiting for flame and shadow. Worked out perfect.
Well shoot! I finished all ACOTAR books the first two crescent city and first 3 TOG. I’m planning to read all TOG start over from beginning this year.
I love a good SJM reread!
Yes! I’m reading it this way for my current reread and it’s perf 🤩
Everytime I reread the books I justify the price a little bit more 🤭
Thank you! This is my second fantasy series and I appreciate your knowledge.
I’m so happy to hear that! Welcome to the most fun genres of literature 🤭
I actually hv a question abt Throne Of Glass. Are any of these books spicy🫣🫣 I’ve seen mixed reviews abt them so idk what to think
I actually really love tower of dawn 🤭 I just give so many disclaimers about it because I know I’m the minority there!
Male Maasochist here. I loved tower of dawn without the tandem read. Sometimes letting a cliffhanger BE a cliffhanger is a good thing and builds the anticipation that much more.
I also loved Tower of Dawn and hate how much hate it gets 🤣 I just like over complicating everything 🤣
I got CC1 CC2 and CC3 because the place I get books didn't have the entire ACOTAR series and I have been going through books quickly so I wanted a complete series. I am onto the third chapter and I have been struggling with the world building so I will definitely check out that podcast!
Yes! That podcast episode was a lifesaver for me!
Great video! Thx for the info on the tandem read! it was another personal record for me to read ACOTAR in 5 days - yip, 5 books in 5 days. But that was last week. I'm gonna take my time with TOG♥
you’re crushing it 🤩
Thank you for your video I’m trying to try different book genres.
That makes sense!
Queen of Shadows is my favorite!!! 😍
Tandem is a big beast and can be super overwhelming 🤣 Yerene was my fav character in that book 😍
Which one did you read first? I love the series but just know I can’t do the tandem read😂 but idk which one to read first
@oliviamorgan3908 if you don’t do Tandem read, then Empire of Storms is what Sarah J Maas puts first.
Thanks so much ! I started with acotar and I’m currently reading the second book of crescent city. I maybe should’ve read TOG before starting cc but I’m probs gonna just read it after 😅

❤❤ i started with the CC1 and am getting ready to start cc2 as i type. ill look into to the others…
Yes!!! I am really fascinated with Stephanie Garber’s universe, so I might start making videos for those soon
LOL this is the best description to CC1 I’ve heard yet 🤣

It makes my day to hear this! I have An Ember in the Ashes on my TBR list! Hopefully I can pick it up before the end of the year 🤞🏼
i absolutely did not listen to all the videos about how to read the SJM books on the internet... started with acotar and moved straigt to CC because i didn't feel ready to start off with like a whole 8 book series (that everyone who has read it said the books are going to take so much of your tears), and tbh i don't feel like i'm missing out on anything.

Welcome to the party! Throne of Glass holds such a special place in my heart so I know you’ll love it! 🥰
@@RubyJeanReads Awesome! I’m excited to dig in ❤️
Omg….. having read soooo many fantasies I still struggled so much CC because it’s just so different and freakinshly humongous. I’ve had the third book ever since it came out but I don’t have the guts to pick it up because I’ve heard it leaves you l with a crazy cliffhanger AGAIN and idk if I can do it 😭
That’s fair! It doesn’t help that she said CC4 isn’t even on the list of her next three books… and that we will have to wait awhile for them to
assassin's blade (I started first) suddenly makes more sense. also I started on crescent city.
I read them all in order of publication but also I didn’t have a choice the first go around since ACOMAF had just come out when I first picked up the series. I read AB after Crown of Midnight which worked out fine. I really think when you read that is just a matter of choice. I’ve reread with AB first and I liked that fine too
Hope to hear your thoughts on 4th Wing and Iron Flame!
Fourth Wing is great! Not - best book ever - like you hear it hyped up to be, but it’s good! On the other hand… Iron Flame could not have been more disappointing to me…
BUT I know this is a fairly controversial opinion since most people love both books!
She is my new favorite author. If you like this should try some Marion Zimmer Bradly - Firebrand or any of the Avalon books
I’ve not heard of these! I can’t wait to research it on Goodreads and add it to my TBR! 🤭
I finished acotar the beginning of march, and went right to crescent city. Just started book 2 last night.
YAY!!! CC2 is SO good 😍
I’ve read the acotar series, I have tog and cc, but not read them yet.
Sounds like it’s time to pick up TOG!! It’s an intimidating series to start (I know it was for me) but it’s so worth it!
TOG is for sure a good place to start! The Romance is WAY cleaner!
@@RubyJeanReads Phew!!
I would recommend TOG first… but it’s ultimately up to you!
Just started tog. I’m like 40% done the first book… lol throne of glass I’m excited
I’m so glad it was helpful! I got the same vibes from other guides and it was a big goal of mine to not be boring… so I appreciate that 🤣
Well the, mission sucess!
@PeachyxLemonXx-ku9mo you’re too kind!! 🥰 thank you ❤️
Ahhh I bought the Sarah J Mass books for Throne of Glass and i'm so excited to read them! (And I also came back to this video for the guide lol)
@PeachyxLemonXx-ku9mo I know you’ll love it!!! I’ve been enjoying rereading the series 🥹
Some read The Assassin's Blade after Heir of Fire. (The Romantic reading order places The Assassin's Blade at the point where it'll make the most emotional impact for you.) I read it first because I bought the 8 book box set, and it was the first book. I will most likely read it first in rereads.
I think after Heir of Fire makes perfect sense!
Well I’ve read a song of ice and fire with so many POV and plots going on. So should be ok with TOG.
Absolutley! You’ll be just fine 😅
I've just romped through ACOTAR on Audible, omg hooked! No book friends to discuss with so wondered if you have any any podcast recommendations?
Yes! A Court of Faeries and Fangirls is the BEST SJM podcast out there 🫶🏼
This was very helpful although I am audio booking these I might have to physically read 5-6
Yes! 110% recommend it!
I'm halfway through ACOWAR now (started with ACOTAR a month ago) and I already have my sights set on the TOG series
Yay!!!!!!! You’re cranking through them! 🤩
Can’t wait to get acotar kinda new to fantasy reads but was highly suggested this book
Yes! I could not suggest it enough for anyone new to fantasy!
Lol!
You will love it! And don’t be too hard on yourself… I have my suggestions, but ultimately you should do what’s best for you! 🫶🏼
Thank you for this guide. I’ve been on a reading hiatus so I’m easing my way back into a fantasy world again. Last fantasy type series I read was the mortal instruments 10 or more years ago😂
You’re welcome! I hope you enjoy the journey of falling in love with fantasy again 🫶🏼
I’m on chapter 39 of Kingdom of Ash. 😭 I can’t read it fast enough. I didn’t feel as attached to this series until the tandem read. Omg now I understand the build up it really gets you invested by Kingdom of Ash.
Right!? Honestly might be the most “emotional” series I’ve ever read…
@@RubyJeanReadsidk what it is about mates but the deep romance of a couple being mated just feels so intense! I looooved that in Acotar and I was flabbergasted we got a mated couple in TOG. 😍
@jackielowrey3032 right!? Idk what about it but I LOVE IT
@@RubyJeanReadsUm I’ve never heard of an ACOTAR reference in TOG! Excuse me! I about screamed at my husband. Page 800-801 in kingdom of ash. That is 100% a description of Velaris AND a full on description of Rhys and Feyre! Why am I crying!? I don’t know a single spoiler so I am so shocked! 🤭 I have no idea how this book is going to end. Here I am commenting on UA-cam at midnight because I don’t know anyone reading SJM lol. You are so sweet and always respond! Thank you Ruby 💕 I’m on chapter 103 now 😅
