Everyone “steals”. It’s really listening to something and adding a piece or many of your own from your own feelings. That’s what every artist of every kind does.
You definitely CAN have memories of something that’s never happened to you. Example. John Mayer and I have been married for the past 20 years. We have 4 beautiful children, a dog and a cat. We have a beautiful life together and are still madly in love with each other. 😂😂😂😂
This is why I am a huge fan of Boards of Canada. Their music use no words and just instruments, that will transcend time and space, through your thoughts and feelings. And the best part about them is; they're very underground and have no desire to be famous or globally known.
Hearing a certain song may remind of an experience or of an era. John’s listeners frequently relate to the SOB Rock songs according to their own experiences. Whomever planted that “little black mirror” idea or the idea of songs intended to “implant false memories” into the brain-John’s specifically ? Or supposed to produce a shared “Mandela effect” as though from a newscast that intended mass mobilization toward a goal… as an example.
“False memory syndrome” from term’s originators was intended as a method of denial of an occurrence via attribution by a psychiatrist/psychologist for the court-room or to label as insane or questionable account.
How far back in time : into childhood, in a programmed alter or in a previous life(which some 3 and 4 year olds are able to remember), or for time-travelers if such really exists…
What a strange premise on which to build an album, but hey, he's John Mayer, so he has the ability to act on his whacky ideas that came to him after getting high on too many edibles lol.
My man ripped off a few songs from the past and worked on them for years and made them his own. I love him tho. Btw.. Paradise Valley is better than S.R...
A blend of The Cars, Phil Collins and Journey and Toto...
Fleetwood too
Also dire straits
also Clapton
I think a bit of Journeyman record from Clapton. So in essence it was already there, he brings it back in Sob rock style ❤
Could also be interpreted as “I’m gonna rip off the vibe of certain eras for different songs on my album but make it my own”. And honestly, respect.
Good artists write their own music great artist steal theirs.

Big Steve Winwood vibes on that opening track. If you replace John’s guitar licks with keyboard licks, ya got Steve Winwood baby.

😂😂😂😂
I'm his mistress then. 😂

”That’s what it did for me…” said John. Wondering where the idea for a song came from /source of song idea. Was it a memory or not…

Haven't heard of them but liked your comment because it's great! I have to check them out.

Sob rock is the best
There are grooves on this album that definitely draw from past vibes for example wild blue definitely has the groove of Rhiannon by Fleetwood Mac
mayer's brain works like a supercomputer....
Recuerdo cuando vi esa entrevista, dije wow eso es un artista
We are one.

❤❤❤❤❤
All I Want is to Be With You is Mr Big’s To Be With You amalgamized
Perception/memory of an occurrence/event may be so different for one than for another that courtrooms have difficulty verifying via witnesses…
So it's *Retro* got it.

Who is the interviewer and where is the full interview, please?
Apple Music John Mayer UA-cam
Exactly! Btw, he's looking gud.
I have to say, Sob Rock does seem as though it is that 80’s album (like a Robert Plant or something) that you just haven’t heard ‘til now. 😌😎

Drugs
Funny its your memorys we know that.
Lol. The idea of some music as a sort of self-PsyOp projected outward?
What is up with this thumbnail choice, dude? And it’s not even representative of the film!

Daft Punk did it first with "Random Access Memories" dude
Is this toxic or somehow unhealthy?
