Might be already clear now but for those who were wondering, "isolement" means "isolation" in French, as well as "quarantine" for a disease (which is not ludicrous for a zombie-related easter egg)
Thomas Regnart right, my speculation is that the shell shocked solider was put into isolation due to the fact that he was acting like a zombie. Since he was mad from all that noise he was attacking the walls causing blood everywhere, as for the footsteps running away? Not sure

Well, most, if not all, zombie lore involves a patient zero, indicating a disease or damaging of DNA or mRNA, so your idea isn't as farfetched as the others. They could be using ISOLMENT as coding for QUARANTINE for the purposes of the room was for quarantining of a certain individual or disease, in turn ISOLATING them from others. The battle could be fought there to maintain a hold over the area and thus the individual in question. The whole of what is said here is completely brought on due to the mentioning of the word ISOLMENT meaning ISOLATION or QUARANTINE. The entire thing points an obvious arrow, much like that in the thumbnail, to an obvious answer. We have a good chance of seeing zombies in Battlefield 1 due to the presentation of this Easter egg. It could also be the other mischievous creatures of Science Fiction lore, Aliens. Neither are too strewn out from the idea that they could be quarantining an individual whom escaped during the opening of the door.

Not zombies. Soldiers in ww1 &ww2 commonly got shellshocked which lead to animalistic behavior that is similar to a rage zombie. The door had the French word for isolation. Where most shellshocked soldiers where thrown. Many of whom were executed

Well, you have none historical evidence against it, so its impossible to this be impossible by simple logic rules. Though mostly unlikely, that is correct.

ChanceTD I've played the story and I can confidently say this is unrelated.
I've seen people saying the word "Isolement" above the door means isolation (people also say it means quarantine). Most logically I'd just say it's a traumatized soldier, clearly beyond a section 8 give potential execution. Probably just a grunt messed up from shellshock or gas attacks.
There'll probably no real conclusion to who or what it is but the additional stuff in the room being the real discoveries.
ChanceTD I also like one persons theory that the jammed valves is making fun of the dev company Valve for not "working" on sequels, perhaps left 4 dead hence the noises.

I remember, back before I rage-quit BF1 entirely, I saw two of those buttons during a match. I pressed them both and obviously nothing happened, but I never suspected the Zombie Room. I figured they were just gonna be like the one light switch in that BF4 DLC "Second Strike" or whatever, on Operation Metro.
I'm glad they made this one fairly simple compared to the recent other eastereggs. I still refuse to learn Morse Code just for a uniform, or a dogtag.

C’mon Captain Eggcellent you know Battlefield keeps up with their games long past when they come out! Especially with Easter eggs although this even surprised me that they followed up with this one. Also how could you give up when the the Final Phase 5 of the Masterman Easter egg for Apocalypse hasn’t come out yet?!

Took me a bit to see what they figured out. I see that the letter is marked with a dot on each of the signs. Wonder how they thought to tie these dots together to make the word. Probably just found them all and then looked at what the letters spelled or something like that. Very neat attention to detail!

The horse painting being indestructible is probably an homage to the indestructible horse mounts in the game.

"Isolement " (as written above the door) is a kind of cell in jail where crazy/dangerous guys are put. So the noises you can here are probably not Zombies, but a crazy man banging his head on the wall.

everyone saying that in the past people will glitch through and see nothing is because this is a game. Now, I am a game designer and producer... this is achieved in multiple ways that are actually very easy. Make a room a prefab and make it spawn on triggered activation.... or you could have the room culed until activation... in any game if you find nothing behind a door doesn't mean its not there. Even games like gtav, the elevator... just cus you can't see it does not mean its non existant. oh how the devs must laugh haha I sure do, games are smoke and mirrors... we can do practically anything we tell it in code.

If there was a "Dead man attack" mode in BF1 (basically non-zombie tower defence, but the zombies are people who inhaled toxic gas.) that would be a cool addition.

I think I have it figured out: the “zombies” was a soldier or more likely, a prisoner, scraping at the door as he was being (presumably) gassed. The writing near the room seems to be the French word for “isolation” meaning it’s likely an isolation chamber, or even, a gas chamber. When certain types of gas enter the body (chlorine, mustard) they cause liquidation of internal organs which are then either spat or vomited out by the victim. Note, however, that this was likely fired by the attacking German forces as neither Imperial Germany or France have ever used gas chambers as a method of execution.

Are there any horses on this map? I can't remember haha; if so, perhaps you have to bring a horse into that room then you'll be able to spin the valves? The horse could be like a sacrifice to the creature/zombie.

Honestly I wouldn’t of minded a supernatural defense mode in a similar vein to zombies. Be fun if all of a sudden zombies or whatever breakout of the door and the teams have to put aside their fight to band together. Make it random too so you can’t guess when it will happen and you might get caught with your pants down if you have the wrong load out.

It could be that the blood is from a victim of Mustard Gas contamination, since Mustard Gas would cause it's victim to cough up blood and pieces of their lungs and the toilet in the corner was just big enough for the victim (who is also going insane) to escape through, and when you throw grenades down there and the grenades explode, it causes that victim to have a PTSD/Shell shock trigger from the shelling of the base he is in.
