      Xrm150 well when it comes to speed and performance the P51D had one rival that out did her in speed armament and agility... the ME262 jet fighter flown by the Nazi's too bad the pilots didn't have the skills we did

    What I liked?
    1 - NO cheezy Star Wars theme music, or other such crap.
    2 - No talking to interrupt the show sound.
    3 - Most importantly, you captured the whistle sound that is unique to the Mustang. Behind enemy lines, that sound was often the first thing that was heard before all hell broke loose. And for many, that was the LAST thing that was ever heard!
    Good Job! :-)

      I don't know where you are located, but we're going to have a jam-up show in Rome, Ga. in October at KRMG (Richard Russell Memorial Airport) featuring the T-Birds. P. Wagstaff is also confirmed for that show.
      I'm going to take both, my video camera and DSL. Will be posting on my page from that show in late October. Gonna need some spare batteries!

    Thank you for posting this. My grandpa Walker, William Walker flew this plane in the US Army Air Corps (before the airforce) in WWII over Eastern Europe. He told me a few stories of him getting into some stressful situations and dog fights with very skilled German pilots. I am so thankful that he made it to the last squadron reunion to see some of his old comrades that flew along side him just before he passed away in 2015. To this day I think this plane is one of the fastest if not the fastest prop planes in existence. The P-51 Mustang had a top speed of 437 mph which is fast even for today's prop planes.

    I wish my father could have seen this video, but he died 18 years ago. He was a Ranger/Scout in WW II. Operated behind enemy lines sometimes, saw lots of action, D-Day, Battle of The Bulge, Hurtgen Forrest etc. He probably saw many Mustangs just like this. I should have paid more attention to his stories. Thanks for making me think of him. Thanks to you and the people who restored this aircraft for preserving a little bit of our history. Sorry, I'm getting a little emotional now.

      guyfihi I thank you and your father for his service! I bet you could do a little research and find out what squad/unit he was with. With that info you might find others who were in it and might be able to find them on Facebook or some other form of social media. Heck...the unit/squad might have its own Facebook page itself.

      Xrm150 That is a good idea, I think one of my brothers or sisters might have his discharge papers. I am a Viet Nam vet myself, but I didn't see much action because I was in the Navy, although we did get shot at a few times. When I got out people didn't honor the vets like they do now, so at least that part has changed.

    What a beautiful airplane. According to a video here of famed fighter pilot Robin Olds, the government was selling off P-51’s to individuals after WWII for a little over $1,000 ... that’s about $15,000 in today’s dollars. Can you imagine owning your own Mustang for 15 grand? (Of course, good luck affording the maintenance. lol) My 2017 Ford Mustang convertible cost twice that much, and while it’s fun to drive, it won’t do an eight-point roll. :-) Thanks for the great video.

    The trouble is, is that it is only a matter of time until this one is augered into the ground for whatever reason. I saw an inexperienced pilot attempt a VERY slow roll at a very low airspeed and ended up burrowing a hole in the golf course at Ottawa airport. I don't want to see or hear of another. Just because you have lots of money to buy one it doesn't mean you are really qualified to fly one.

      Robert Bradley It's a catch 22 really... The only people who can afford these aircraft are older people who really have no business being behind the stick of one to begin with. There's a reason why most of the fighter pilots in WW2 flying these were in their 20s, because their judgement and reaction time are lightning fast. Elderly people, not so much.

    John Richarson...How many times are you going to keep harping on your Spitfires??? Do you think if say something 50 times it will come true??? The Mustang first flew in 41 and the British used the you are wrong tat they never saw service til 44 that would be the D model. Also you seem to omit that the Mustang had a range of 2,000 mile and you spit was lucky to get 800. Face it they were two different planes for two different missions and each gave up something to accomplish their PRIMARY goals. The Spit was a defencive intercepter that defended the skies over England and the Mustang was a long range escort fighter that took the Fight TO the German as an offencive fighter. And in comparing the two pick a model of the Spit, hell there must have been thirty of them, It's no wonder the Brits were not able to build many they were too busy changing them around, Hell the Yanks developed a model D and cranked them out by the thousands..."GIT ER DONE BOYS...no time for tea...there a war on ! ! ! " dumb Brits...

    The p 51 dago red is 10% faster, have 40% more horse-power, is mass is 50% less ,have zero passengers is not pressurized, is in aluminum .
    The piaggio avanti 2 have a cruise speed 10% lower (730 km/h) than the max speed of the P 51 dago red have 8 pax and two pilots and toilet, could be a little bit scary if you use the reverse when you forget you having an engine failed...but that turboprop with a service life 4 time of an piston engine.
    Even if the P 51 will stay THE BEST propeller warbird ever made
    ; The unsurpassed Piaggio avanti was made in 1982 without today computers with only aluminium, and genius engineers italians and from NASA with 6000 hours of wind tunnel.

    What a gorgeous airplane!
    I once saw Chuck Yeager fly his WWII P-51 along with a wingman of similar vintage, chasing each other at incredible speeds and g-loads around Whitman Field at Oshkosh, WI. The airshow announcer said the airplanes were together 110 years old and the pilots 150. Yeager was 75 at the time; I saw him hop out of the P-51 cockpit like a 25-year-old. forget something in the cock[it and hop back in with admirable agility .
    A few years later I watched a dozen P-51s rev up in front of the crowd at the EAA convention at Oshkosh, the roar of those 1500 HP Rolls-Royce engines a beautiful choir. Later I walked past the P-52 parking area and saw polished aluminum wings and bodies in the light of sunset, gleaming gold.
    I'm in love!

    Beautiful. It's well named because it looks like watching a horse at full gallop- poetry in motion and with the addition of a symphony of sound. Well I was filming with a Sony Handcam HDR-10 and there is no windscreens for it =( I do however have a NEW camcorder. A Panasonic HC-V750 and it has a built in windscreen however I need to custom make for for it also. It needs to be better because no matter what airfield you go to and no matter what the time is....its windy!

    That pilot is real good and plays with that P51 in the air mass just as fine as the best would expect.

    Can never get enough of watching this magnificent plane fly. There was Mustang flying at Dover AFB at their last show in '19 and I was mesmerized. Great post.

    Looks like its got an extended canopy for an extra passenger ?

    • @Xrm150
      @Xrm150  10 років тому +1

      It is a TF-51 (Trainer/Fighter) so yes it has the extended canopy for a extra passenger. This plane has dual controls. Some else neat about this plane is that YOU can fly it at Stallion 51 in Florida.

    One of the Best Fighter in the Air over Germany, only the Germans FW-190 can match her under 6000 Meter high (Had something to do with the Engine of the FW-190), and above this Height, perhaps the ME-262 with her extreme Speed for this time :). A beatiful old Lady of the Sky :).

    Why are we flying these magnificent warbirds like this….they need to be flown responsibly….straight and level….not like a competition aerobatic aircraft…..fools….Crazy Horse needs to stop flying in this manner….that is just irresponsible….😡😡

  • @malcolmcibak9607
    @malcolmcibak9607 5 років тому

    And guess what! That’s not a P-51!!
    That’s a Cavalier. These were marketed after the war by North American as high speed personal transport aircraft. You can tell by the shape of the top of the vertical stabilizer. The P-51 is squared off and it has a dorsal fin in front of the vertical stab too.
    Lots of folks make this mistake. It IS a very nice bird though!!

    Great video and I appreciate you sharing it. That guy was demonstrating spectacular stick and rudder skills...however....I am always nervous when I see someone doing low altitude loops with ground level bottoms in a super high performance aircraft. There is just no room for error. A secondary stall could creep up on you if you were not constantly aware of your airspeed and altitude. Exciting to watch, but dangerous to perform.

    My Dad was shot down on D-Day in his P-51, captured and spent 11 months in Stalug Luft III, he loved that plane and the P-47. Found out a few years ago who the guy was that shot him down.
