Bought this the day it came out, started the game with a single character, realized very quickly that without any outer disciples to put to work I was pretty fucked, managed to get some outer disciples and soon after came to the conclusion: "This isn't a game for me, it's a game for Sseth, I'll just wait for his video on it."
Just like in wuxia novels in the beginning of the stories, you have to steal some outer disciples from the powerless non-martial artists. At least, I wanna think that's the mechanic the game implements.
I watched Sseth's video 3 times, I tried playing the game for 2 hours - I still don't understand anything. The resource management, task prioritization, etc, is all confusing, especially when I set the correct priorities, give out tasks, and then I see the outer disciple "wander around" while his mood is maxed while I badly need resources for my luxury suite.
Meng Hao walked into the McDonald's. The cultivator taking his order gave a derisive snort, but Meng Hao did not really care, because he had repressed his aura down to the Single Patty Realm, and a fool would not be able to tell his true level of burger eating. "Give me... a Happy Meal!" The cultivator's face flickered before he finally regained his composure and laughed. "You couldn't afford a Happy Meal. Get lost! Don't you see that there are Double Quarter Pounder Realm eaters waiting behind you? Meng Hao slapped his bag of holding and threw 80 billion spirit McDonald's coupons onto the counter, causing an earthquake which demolished half of the restaurant. Everyone dropped their jaws. None could see how this was possible! "I'll take that Happy Meal with a side order of fries, " Meng Hao said. He was as calm as the ocean in a painting of an insanely calm ocean. "And let me see your manager!" The cashier cultivator coughed up a mouthful of ketchup. He simply could not handle Meng Hao's killing intent, because he was only at the Quarter Pounder with Cheese realm himself. Even though Meng Hao had suppressed his aura, because he had cultivated the Heavenly Burgin' Qi, this was enough to kill people a few levels higher if he truly wanted. It was then that another man which a much more fierce aura stepped forward. "You dare make trouble here?" "P... Patriarch Hamburglar!" Patriarch Hamburglar was 99 cents of the way into the Big Mac Realm, plus tax! Meng Hao was pushed back two feet, knocking over a soda machine. Powerade Mountain Berry Blast geysered outward, killing several onlookers. Of course, Mayor McCheese saw all this happen through the window. Meng Hao coughed up a mouthful of blood, snorted, constricted his pupils, and then his expression went calm. He unleashed the aura of 64 patties, condensed down to a 2 patty stack that could fit into his mouth! Mayor McCheese coughed up a mouthful of cheese. His pupils constricted. "Is this... Seeking the McRib stage??" Meng Hao had the gentle air of a scholar, but it wouldn't stop him from killing several people in a McDonald's. "Burger Devouring Scripture! I'm Lovin' It!" With the first keyword of the Burger Devouring Scripture, everyone below the early Quarter Pounder With Cheese stage exploded into purple mist. The light of the immense heavenly burger shone down with the contours of a golden arch as 9 illusory burgers floated around Meng Hao's body, which is probably an important xianxia number that matches the number of lakes in some sacred Chinese province I've never heard of. But that was only a fraction of Meng Hao's power. He waved his arm, bringing forth thirty more cultivation techniques that hadn't appeared in over 400 chapters! "Heavenly Tribulation Fries! Eastern Everburning Egg McMuffin! Fruit Smoothie Guillotine! Soul McCafe Mocha Incarnation!" Meng Hao's expression was the same as ever as he slapped his bag of holding, and brought out his karmic ketchup packet, Fry Cook Lord medallion, seventeen different wooden time spatulas, a five-coloured resurrection coupon, the silk burger wrapper, various souls of lightning McNuggets that he may or may not still have, and his mask of the legacy of Ronald McDonald. Oh, and the image of a flying Chicken Snack Wrap dragon appeared. Remember that? It was basically his Main Thing at the start of the novel, but quietly faded into irrelevance. Until now! All of this takes some time to describe, but actually happened in the space of only a few breaths. "What! Impossible!" Meng Hao wanted to summon the parrot as well, but it was too overcome with eroticism by the purple fur depicted on a nearby poster of Grimace, and was busy drilling out a glory hole straight through the poster, and the wall it was pinned to, with its strong parrot erection. But it was more than enough. The Hamburglar's soul flew out and was absorbed into his mask! He screamed as his body was destroyed completely. Meng Hao brushed off his robe and swept up his spirit coupons and everyone's bags of holding which probably didn't have any cool sh*t inside unless I write him into a corner later, and anyways, don't worry about it for now. He surveyed the rubble that was all that remained of the McDonald's. "Guess I'll be taking that Happy Meal... to go!"

The Yaoguai thing is actually hilarious too. So, Tribulations happen to any cultivator that really tries to go hard in the paint on ascending. and Yaoguai tribulation is basically the easiest one. It burns through 30k Qi, 5 times, at base. This means you have to be able to tank 150k Qi of damage. A cultivator that just became an inner disciple has between 500 to 1200 Qi. This plus good artifacts in the first couple months could get you to 1500 Qi in the disciple, and 30k Qi in artifacts and other pools of Qi they can use. This will not save you. If you have a Yaoguai with under 100 days before tribulation, they're a lost cause if they aren't already an established cultivator, or you're willing to play like a psychopath. So my first attempt at The Miao Haus ended in terror. MY next attempt just has the Miao family and their many, many, mundane cats.
just stack protect and talisman for protect with some items and do the Whitout artefact. Shifter tribs are super easy. I tank them before gold core on pure regen with that strat on a few 1000 qi
After reading more cultivation novels/manhuas than a computer can count, I have long come to the conclusion that cultivation trades brains and maturity for sheer power. The number of times I have read about people gasping in shock and amazement because the MC was smart enough to know that the guy who threatened him and his family with torture and the eternal imprisonment of their souls might not be trustworthy is... Not to mention all the times they have been AMAZED that someone as YOUNG as 2-3000 years can understand basic sarcasm and 'subtle' threats.... As the characters themselves have stated: 'Even million+ year old legends might not have been able to detect the animosity shown by (guy known for killing everyone who does not bow and scrape before him, or just anyone he sees when he is in a malicious mood.)'
You can tell that Sseth actually tried with his pronunciations, which is awesome. Also, Chinese mysticism is the final boss of "contrived plot armour and maguffins" so its insane to see the developers made some semblance of a system out of it
I mean literally every magic system whether elaborated on or not is all just contrived bullsh*t to make otherwise impossible things happen. And as far as magic systems go, Chinese alchemy and Wuxia Chi cultivation is actually one of the more well thought out, consistent, mechanically fleshed out systems of mystical hogwash. To be honest I would like to see similar (arguably insane) levels of detail and fleshing out of other settings' magic systems and elaboration of their respective metaphysical underpinnings. (and in many cases coming up with metaphysic models were none existed before..) Plus even in Chinese mysticism, it's not just about imperical methods, infact it largely depends on the individual on how they're to approach the arts of magic, hence why in the *"Amazing Cultivation Simulator"* each character all have their more or less own unique qualities that must be cultivated on a customizable basis in order to unlock their true potential and obtain godly powers based on them as individuals. All the system does is like giving people various avenues of research or training so they can find methods or approaches that work best for them based on their individual skills and even personality quirks. Basically Wuxai is a compartmentalized but interchangeable system, like bionicles, sure there's concrete pieces of metaphysics but how they're arranged for people is largely up to the individual's abilities and qualities as well as lifestyles and environments they're immersed in.
@@navilluscire2567 The same kind of detail for actual Western alchemy would be interesting. Actually incorporating the five elements and the four steps to purification and all the mystical baggage associated with it.
@@seigeengine Not really, the fact that people still play or would play around with such detailed, involved (as in it takes actual preparation and thought) magic systems proves that there's definitely a market for such games. Most other magic systems in popular media treat magic less like a study and more like just having basically super powers at the users beck and call, which funny enough is the entire point of chi cultivation, all that studying and all that preparation, and all the meticulous steps is towards achieving the goals of both immortality and developing incredible super powers or else crafting legendary artifacts. Most magic systems in many games just cut out the implied in between studying or prerequisite stuff that is sopposed a learned art and metaphysical science in their magic systems if they even bother with implying that. Again in popular fiction magic wielded by mortals is treated as some inborn super powers rather than grafted abilities or manipulations of fate via esoteric tools and symbolic gestures like in more historical magic traditions or Wuxia literature.
I bought this game when it came out. I played it for 20 hours and still didn't understand anything. Now that I've watched this video I can safely say it's not my fault and this game is an afront to god
Having already owned this game, I watched this video and was inspired to go back. I just wanted to note: the Big Chungus sentient spirit thing? That's not actually a joke. Sseth is being completely serious. The name you give an awakened building or item DOES actually decide part of the stats it gets, and a male spirit being named "Big Chungus" will give base stats of 26 which is either the highest possible base stat value, or just the highest one that has been found. This is reproducible across saves and games. fuckin wild.
@@notepadplusplus4923 Same thing as Big Chungus. It modifies the stats of your character to the highest. Very important if you want to consume sunpill before golden core.
I watched this video with two large breaks of half a day each in an attempt to absorb as much of the information as possible, but this game is by far the most complicated one I've ever seen and sseth did an amazing job presenting how deep the rabbit hole goes. I was thinking sseth was joking when he said fans datamined the game but it's absolutely true, just open the linked guide in the description and find the "Code Diving" link in that spreadsheet, there's so much more he could've covered.
I have 277 hours and I know for a fact Sseth isn't lying when he says he hates it. The game is addicting and you will likely have fun but its a massive time sink and the story is dam near impossible to complete. If you don't read up on the game before starting you first playthrough will likely end in tragedy and around 30-50 or more hours of work on your base and cultivators will get wiped by the flood dragon.
@@NFDave1992 it is for people who beat everything too easily. we want a challenge at times. but a smart challenge.. not just a gratuitous randomly difficult to complete... there has to be a high level of refinement to the madness
The moral of the story is that Chinese fantasy is like Western fantasy, if instead of being refined by masters of their craft, and ruthlessly polished into a shining little gem by the constraints of fantasy gaming, everyone just did drugs and watched martial arts movies, and then recordings of their drug-addled ramblings were input into a machine to convert into a genre of fiction.
You never read the classics, didn't you? I don' t blame you, your brainwashed head is to naive for metaphor, katesian, philosofical, metalinguistic fictction.
I'd say it's more like if the various esoteric beliefs, natural philosophies, and whatever other strange ideas of pre-modern societies that inspired modern fantasy tropes were basically left in, rather then refined, modified, or just flat out removed as they were in western fantasy. Like, imagine typical western fantasy world, but disease was pevented through adorning places with good smells, or you'd place animals and objects on trial to dispell any demonic/bad influence, or so on.
It actually is. Spent 15 hours looking at spreadsheets and guides. Also, he didn't even talk about spirit tree farming. He's not kidding about the casual filters.

For everyone confused about the sex swap based on your cultivation, yin and yang are sexed energies, yin is female, yang is male, certain cultivations are sex specific since they use these two energies, if a male cultivates lunar cultivation (the moon is yin) their internal yin energy increases (think of it like estrogen overdose) which makes you female. in ancient chinese beliefs an excess of yin energy was what made males gay, very feminine, or even transgender, and an excess of yang energy made females lesbian, very masculine, or even transgender.

I'd love to see a game that take the concepts here and makes it into something where you're an individual on a cultivation journey, instead of the seed point for an entire sect
To clarify, this game is based on the "cultivation" genre, not the "Wuxia" genre. The Wuxia (武侠)genre goes back to around late Qing Dynasty. The modern Wuxia becomes popular around early 60s and is more grounded to our world where martial artists are just fighters who try to use their skills for good. Usually, the said "good" depends on the era it's in. If it's in Late Song Dynasty, it's about defending the nation from invading Mongols. If it's in Ming Dynasty, it's about doing the right thing in the middle of civil wars / fighting corruption that's rooted from within the imperial government. If it's in Qing Dynasty, it's about the Chinese trying to overthrow the Manchurian invaders (who had planted themselves as the new rule) in order to bring back their Han rule. And, the plot doesn't involve anyone "ascending to godhood". It's sort of like the "superhero with no powers" genre for Chinese but sets in Ancient China. Cultivation (修仙)genre, on the other hand, is a new genre that appears around 10 years ago when web novel becomes popular. The story usually happens in fantasy China instead of historical China. And the story almost always involving the protagonist becoming the most powerful deity in the universe / multiverse. The protagonist gets all the girls, all the powers, kills everyone who disagrees with him. Bad guys must always be one dimensional evil. If the bad guys is complex, he will end up being one dimensionally evil. If the protagonist is morally questionable, it's fine he's not evil because "he's the protagonist" and the protagonist is always right. in short, it's a "power fantasy writing piece". This is why many Chinese often call a Wuxia novel a "novel"(小说) while a Cultivation novel a "power fantasy writing" (爽文).

@@aurelius-sparksf I had to guess I'd say hyper realistic and/or detailed simulation games that are extremely complex and difficult to learn and in which absurd happenings are practically the norm. Games like Rimworld and Dwarf Fortress.
I'm out here in China, and everything in this game seems legit. There are dozens of TV shows where people transform into animals, but not for anything cool or on camera. They just refer to having done some shopping as a spiritual fox earlier in the day. And everything is controlled by hot & cold energies. Even in the peak of summer, people can and 'will' suffer from cold wet energies, so you best drink some hot water.
Not literal hot and cold energies some might think. Yin and Yang are more like like dark vs light or feminine vs masculine or negative vs positive or lunar vs solar. It's something supposed to be balanced for human to not get sick. As for people transforming into animals, that's actually the other way around. Once animals gain further consciousness (beyond their animal consciousness), they start to become 'Yaoguai', a kind of life-state close to western concept of monster. From then on, their main life goal would be cultivation and ascension to godhood or humanhood because these are deemed better by them. In Chinese literature, Yaoguai is often depicted with huge interest in human life and becoming one. That's why there's a lot of them masquerading and faking to be one and join the human society. One thing worth noting is that, Yaoguai is also generally deemed as mischievous, unkind, and even evil, so ancient Chinese liked to blame them, like saying "that is not a human, they're a Yaoguai disguising as human, that's why they're so evil." But in reality, they're often just evil humans.

@@IronikMoI’m pretty sure there is very very few things that haven’t happened in cultivation novels 😂. They’re SO MANY.
Meng Hao walked into the McDonald's. The cultivator taking his order gave a derisive snort, but Meng Hao did not really care, because he had repressed his aura down to the Single Patty Realm, and a fool would not be able to tell his true level of burger eating. "Give me... a Happy Meal!"
The cultivator's face flickered before he finally regained his composure and laughed.
"And let me see your manager!"
The cashier cultivator coughed up a mouthful of ketchup.
Patriarch Hamburglar!"
Patriarch Hamburglar was 99 cents of the way into the Big Mac Realm, plus tax!
I'm Lovin' It!"
With the first keyword of the Burger Devouring Scripture, everyone below the early Quarter Pounder With Cheese stage exploded into purple mist. Soul McCafe Mocha Incarnation!"
Meng Hao's expression was the same as ever as he slapped his bag of holding, and brought out his karmic ketchup packet, Fry Cook Lord medallion, seventeen different wooden time spatulas, a five-coloured resurrection coupon, the silk burger wrapper, various souls of lightning McNuggets that he may or may not still have, and his mask of the legacy of Ronald McDonald. Oh, and the image of a flying Chicken Snack Wrap dragon appeared. Remember that? It was basically his Main Thing at the start of the novel, but quietly faded into irrelevance. Until now!
All of this takes some time to describe, but actually happened in the space of only a few breaths. "What! Impossible!"
Meng Hao wanted to summon the parrot as well, but it was too overcome with eroticism by the purple fur depicted on a nearby poster of Grimace, and was busy drilling out a glory hole straight through the poster, and the wall it was pinned to, with its strong parrot erection.
"Guess I'll be taking that Happy Meal... to go!"
Well, now we know who has been making those threads on /v/ about Xianxia novels.

You can tell that Sseth actually tried with his pronunciations, which is awesome. Also, Chinese mysticism is the final boss of "contrived plot armour and maguffins" so its insane to see the developers made some semblance of a system out of it
Yeah, I was actually a little impressed by how far they went.
(and in many cases coming up with metaphysic models were none existed before..)
Plus even in Chinese mysticism, it's not just about imperical methods, infact it largely depends on the individual on how they're to approach the arts of magic, hence why in the *"Amazing Cultivation Simulator"* each character all have their more or less own unique qualities that must be cultivated on a customizable basis in order to unlock their true potential and obtain godly powers based on them as individuals.
@@navilluscire2567 "hurr fiction isn't real durr"
The reason other magic systems don't do this is that it's objectively terrible.
@@seigeengine
Not really, the fact that people still play or would play around with such detailed, involved (as in it takes actual preparation and thought) magic systems proves that there's definitely a market for such games.

The happiness of hearing “hey hey people” anew was great. Despite watching a Chinese furry simulator
Technically speaking, 修仙 itself is not exactly new, just the webnovels surrounding the idea. It's basically the path of Taoism.

I'm out here in China, and everything in this game seems legit.
There are dozens of TV shows where people transform into animals, but not for anything cool or on camera. They just refer to having done some shopping as a spiritual fox earlier in the day.
And everything is controlled by hot & cold energies.
Even in the peak of summer, people can and 'will' suffer from cold wet energies, so you best drink some hot water.
what the actual fuck..
totally no dragon in hong kong
That's mad interesting. I'd seriously like to hear more
I have no clue what any of that means
