You got any videos on the European style? Or maybe a Bivol style video? Love all the videos
Love your content sir. Here in Pennsylvania I was taught that the cross arm guard is a version of the Philly Shell. In a video I watched on UA-cam Tim Witherspoon also suggested this. What do you think? Finally, Evander Holyfield also used a version of the Philly Shell/ Cross Arm Guard. In my opinion he was one of the best to ever utilize the style.

Really enjoy this short video you post. Not many boxing coach take time to explain the function of the stance and the guard of the hands. A lot of so-called martial arts teacher will be stuck with fundamentals, and just have their student punch themselves out on heavy bags. But the art of boxing is more complex than what they see on TV. Great video!
Is it better to go with a guard style that naturally fits a person or try something else?
I’ve been watching this channel for years and I still can’t get over how slick your movement is in every stance
Thank you, I appreciate it!
LOL, he looks average at best in each stance.
@@jacobferdinand7666 where’s your videos, expert? We’d all love to learn from a true master 🙄
Same here
I was about to say something about that lead left hook
I'm an amateur martial arts student. Early on after a few lessons, I started using an open-hand guard because I felt I could more easily defend an opponent's strike. I came across this video today and realized I was using the European style guard without even knowing about it. Good content. You know your stuff.
You see it ALOT in muay thai. The long guard.
Keep mixing things up in your martial arts training (with boxing and other martial arts). You're guaranteed to throw some people off. Respect
Wing Chun also uses it for deflecting since they don’t block
I was using a fighting style that resembled a lot muay thay and now that I realized im going to start praticing muay thay what do you all think?
@@spectralgamer5474good martial art that can be used at long and short range also Shins.
Thanks for showing the LONG GUARD COACH. I’m 6’5” and was a fan of the Klitschko Brothers.
Cheers
Ur sparring partners are about to hate you 😂
@@nicolasbouchard6331
I hope so!!
🤣🤣🤣
👍👍
ahhahahahah
6'5" damn, you could probably just stand there normally and they wouldn't be able to reach your head 😂
@@wNiNGeNw
It does have its advantages. 😁😉
Dude when you did the long range, I could see Klitschko before the name came up. I also Mayweather and Tyson when you did the Philly Shell and Peek a Boo.
Very skillful and accurate...
😂😂😂😂
Peeka a boo was poor, no side stepping
Young Foreman also used it
God bless you and whoever reads this, Jesus loves you
Young Foreman also used this style to implement arm control that stopped Frazier's assaults.
Against Pressure Fighters it was fantastic, but against backfoot Boxers or counterpunchers it could be tricky or easy to counter.
Do weaknesses for each of those styles next
Peek a boo was the most tiring style ever.
fr. it takes amazing cardio and flexibility to pull it off
Well, you're trying to put pressure on your opponent
Of course it is
That’s why you keep doing it 💪🏽
@@christobalmendoza9363 yes bro keep it up also
@@corynn.l5146 yes it was hard for me haha
peek-a-boo and Pilly Shell my two favorite stances.
Me too🔥🔥
Lol like u can fight
Looked good in every stance you the man coach lol
Thank you 🥊
@@PrecisionBoxinghi mind doing one on the thai verison of boxing? Not muay thai but boxinh ,i heard yhey use flat foot
I've been training mma for 2 years and for the first year I was traveling for work. This channel was fundamental for building skills in a hotel room. Now that I spar I can proudly say I use a modified Philly shell for mma in south paw. And my orthodox stance I use Dutch kickboxing stance. Competition coming soon.
Those were so accurate and I like how he gave the perfect examples of legendary fighters who used that very stance, very informative
As a karate black belt, I used those stances that you used in this video.
Sweet footwork
Honestly, out of all the years I’ve been boxing, my favorite style is peek-a-boo, it suits me perfectly since I’m smaller than the other fighters, my feet movement is perfect so I can slide and back out of any punches with ease, pair that with the constant blocking and your basically unstoppable
I love that you are one of few who teaches about the cross guard because nobody is using it nowadays and I am obsessed with it
You can definitely see some iconic boxer's movements there.
🥊❤️
I always knew the cross arm style as The Crab aka Ken Norton
I’m cross arm for life. I use it prob 40% of the time and the rest is a mix.
The mummy style. Joe frazier.
52 blocks?
@@frannydaddy7833 52 blocks is the alto shuffle that’s something different
@@eddp.8289 didn’t Ali dub foreman the mummy for using a long guard variant?
Everyone has there own style & you create it through sparring/flow
Definitely learned something, thanks for posting!
I'm now doing the Soviet Style, thanks to Bivol, and I do believe that the long guard fits it best. Thank you for this video. 👍🏻
also about the peekaboo guard, you’re usually not in a orthodox stance. While being more squared, not entirely, the body leans a little to the right for the cross and the feet usually move together so you can pummel the opponent. If you notice Mike Tyson’s footwork, he would come in by taking his left foot first then bringing in his right every step.
Heck yeah! I use the long guard! I love counter punching and ranged fighting, my coach hates me for it!
I just began boxing Im right handed using southpaw and using cross guard for outboxing and switching to reverse cross guard for in boxing! Damn I love that way of boxing 🥊
I recommend Joe Louis style for everybody. Textbook stance is key in boxing
Big fax. Louis had top 3 best stance/guard.
@@newagain9964how. Personally i prefer winky wright
The greatest boxers can fluidly move between all these.
Philly shell has to be one the most intuitive fighting technique and have still so much technical depth . You can learn it in a day but the nuances to it never stop
People would say these stances are dumb but they are pretty good.
This guy is awesome. Great to watch
"Choose your fighter"
Boxing stance is still so wild to me, it just highlights how it all gets honed for the sport and rule set.
They would all be useful for MMA or no rules fighting as well. Euro style gets used by Israel Adeysana
@@johnbloom1109 I swear nick diaz also uses euro style, watch his fights in strike force he has his guard up the same way
@@ztoronto5011 He does it looks like. I think combining different styles make sense.
Euro works well for keeping distance with jab and Foreman Style is a good all around strong defensive stance but peekaboos heavy emphasize on solid steady head/body movement is really good for avoiding being hit and combos.
This is just my observation playing with these stances in a VR game and shadow boxing
Cross arm: Archie Moore,Tim Witherspoon
Peekaboo: Floyd Patterson, Jose Torres
This man has a lot of knowledge. Too bad he wasn't around in the 70s
Thanks for all your hard work boss
You move really nicely.
Great Coaches should be physical encyclopedias like this fella.
Love your videos! It thought me alot and I’m grateful. Thanks Coach
As a 6’3 guy I gotta learn how to get better at the Euro Guard and using my length.
Great Video....Best regards form Germany 🇩🇪
Tbh the Standard guard is a good fondation to build a strong base in defense (slips, head movements etc..) and also offense. After it becomes polished, it then becomes unique to each fighter.
Insane control this guy has on his body moving quick twitch is the goal
There's also the long guard, a solid guard for offense.
its in the video
Beautiful demonstrations!
I have like 4 pairs of that style UA shorts i love them! But also really like your content of course. Always quality and always super helpful yet basic
The peekaboo is more squared and its probably the hardest to master bc theres so much to it that people dont even talk about amd you need perfect technique for it to be an effective boxing style
Ive been boxing for a little but for some reason I don’t want another stance I find basic to be kinda fun, Boxing is the best sport 🔥🥊
I love this. although ever since I started muay thai that lead leg it's giving me anxiety.
Cross guard is perfect for the short big boys if you got a strong stomach/abdominal wall.
Over the last couple years I’ve ended up with having kind of a hybrid of Peekaboo & Philly Shell which was pretty difficult to pull off consistently and pull it off well enough considering I’ve always been “Brawler” style boxer. Because of that i obviously wasnt always great defensively and had a take a hit to land a hit mentality but that hybrid technique has ended up working out pretty well to tighten up defensively without changing my style entirely. Still working out some minor tweaks with it but my biggest flaw offensively in the past had always been my footwork staying consistent especially when coming forward aggressively during exchanges. Takes some time to get it down especially when it comes to cardio because you can get gassed out earlier but that will improve over time. I would definitely recommend trying it out.
Young Foreman was also a prolific long guard fighter. Ali used to call him the mummy lol. Lots of cutting punches off before they can be thrown.
yes!!
So cool you make it look like boxing is a video game especially with including who the styles are used by
European style for me at 6'6 has fiben me glorious results in fights
Except that right hand stays open palm facing the opponent right in front of my chin
I recently watched the Thrilla in Manila and it blew my mind the way Frazier used the cross guard to negate so many of Ali's punches
My personal favorite are the cross guard and cross philly shell. Mainly because you can interconnect the two. 🥊
Noyce. I'm a newbie to boxing and only 5' 11 but my wingspan is insane (6'3) so the European style comes naturally to me. I liked the crossed guard, too. Great video for beginners 👊
Archie Moore's guard will always be the most impressive thing to me. Such a technical mastermind.
This man is too smooth
Well done Sir
When sparring mma I naturally gravitated towards Philly shell threw in some good head movement and foot work drills and it worked pretty good
Philly Shell is bullshit at MMA
Because my left shoulder is kind of wrecked that cross armed guard does help and work anyway I think everyone you did was awesome great job man I love all your content
beautifully executed
Great video man!
I use the Philly shell guard and the European long guard depending on the situation during long range, but then I'll switch to more of a Peekaboo guard when I'm up close
Looks crisp and clean
Archie Moore s cross guard was brilliant
Wonderful, great form!
That Philly Shell is nasty if you use it right. It's like having three hands to block with when you roll that shoulder over. Combine it with good movement and you can slip a lot of shots too.
That's one clean instrumental.
Well done
Thank you sir
Not enough people acknowledge philly shell style. Most think it exposes you to much. I happen to like it for striking however. I was actually unaware of the cross arm defense/stance. Thank you for short demonstration.
Nice defense and offense!!!!
There is also hands-down style which is good for dropping the opponent’s guard and head movement
Interesting... i'm a Tyson-style (peekaboo) ...but i believe in having the right hand further back. It makes for a good left-hook-defense and deals a lot of damage when throwing my right-jab!
The gloves should be tight against the face using the peel a boo, more than any other guard. His demo didn’t capture that.
your southpaw?
@@oldaccount1313 i'm northpaw but due to my natural survival and tactical skills, i didn't realize i was taking on southpaw traits... nice observation!
@@xalynkx northpaw?? You mean orthodox so right dominate hand.
@@oldaccount1313 you can also refer to orthodox as northpaw, although most persons do not. I simply dont like to call my style orthodox.
Beautiful
For the peekaboo you would keep your feet a little closer so you can but more weight on each foot for when you slip and step so literally any punch can be full power
I love my Philly shell stance in boxing
Yo man thank you so much, you are the reason why I am strong and passionate about boxing today
Good to know all and use all, for example European for finding your reach, standard for the mid range, peekaboo to close distance and Philly shell to work em on the ropes
Thank you bro for the types of stances for boxing now I can combine my karate stance with the European style stance
High guard is my go to
Phili shell is also great because you can protect your balls with your lead hand 👌
Nice short clip explaining the different styles tnx 💯🥊👊🏼💪🏼💯👌🏽👍🏼
Mix standard, long guard you’ve got a good style
European style is something i like to do, i practiced both karate and muay thai, throwing some kicks/knees/elbows mixed with boxing helps a lot 👍
Great video!
Thanks Mr. Clean now back to work
If you combine textbook , philly shell , and cross guard all together you can be very defensively safe in the ring, idk for a street fight but in the ring those 3 together can make magic happen , in a street fight it is best to use peekaboo and textbook boxing
0:20 I really like it bro
Good job bro..keep up a good job.
excellent movement in every stance..
Peekaboo was made more for ease of head movement, not protection. The protection was up to the evasive head movement most of the time.
Original peekaboo did not use much head movement. You're thinking of Tyson.
@@PrecisionBoxing oh wait, i think we are talki g about 2 different things. Forgot the video was on the stance. I was talking about the style as a whole. My bad.
*gaurd*
Wow I’d love to see a match where a boxer goes through a few variations I bet that’s tough to be real proficient and comfortable. Great showcase
BEAUTIFUL!!!
beautiful at it's best right here I used to box back n tha days. my man u look good keep up da great work
Thank you, I appreciate it Smoove
#2 should've also displayed floyd patterson/jose torres because they're the original peekaboo practitioners.
I love these videos 👌👍💯
Thank you.
Man has the same shoes I use for wrestling. Very cool.

Philly shell is also great for racking up points in a bout
