Wonderful breakdown. Not all Cuban boxers are outside fighters, some are more aggressive, but one thing for certain is there is always a dance or a flow to their movements.
Very precise... the more you delve into Cuban Boxing the more you realise that there is no "Cuban Style" but simply "Cuban Technique" and the style we see in most of the Cuban boxers who fight internationally is the "strategy" of moving the feet against other international boxers who have not excelled in footwork. Inside Cuba you will see "Pro style knockout artists" and "Point-scoring fleet footed boxers"
Aesthetically the most beautiful style in boxing! Fun fact: Sugar Ray Robinson got his footwork from watching Eligio Sardinas, or also known as Kid Chocolate, who was Cuban. Interesting to see that style influence the perhaps greatest boxer ever!
The great Colombian novelist Gabriel Garcia Marquez noted that dance was more deeply embedded in Cuban culture than any country he had visited. When I visited the country in 2001 I saw that first hand: their sense of movement is immediately noticeable. Even the plainest of Cubans can come to life when they move and you have explained that very well. I look forward to watching more Cuban fighters from now on.
Very impressive breakdown. Someone already wrote that there are brawlers in the Cuban style and I agree, but to me they fit best as out-fighters and lightweights, a beautiful style with a mesmerizing technique.
I think there is something to it, sense of rhythm, fluid footwork, ability to move freely. Heard bunch of coaches claiming dancers make good boxers. And although not Cuban, Lomachenko's dad made him take dancing lessons before he allowed him to come back to boxing.
@@tariqziyad8062 cuban boxers are usually avoided, so they are never given the opportunity. For example, Erislandy Lara was avoided by both Charlos, Andrade, Mayweather and even GGG Regardless of who people think won, Canelo deserves lots of respect for fighting Lara when everyone else chose to avoid him.
@@tariqziyad8062 Yep. Cuban style incorporates a good amount of foot movement but when the legs go they get stopped or look ultra vulnerable. The style isn't suited for any sort of inside fighting at all but they are nice on an amateur level though.
As a guy born to Cuban parents this was fun to watch. I can't tell if Cuban boxers are messing with their opponents or being serious but I never want to interrupt their "dance" to find out.
Beautiful breakdown on cuban boxing! These athletes are such a joy to watch. You mentioned boxers using amateur techniques at professional level, could you make a video explaining what is the difference between the two - amateurs and pro arena?
This was awesome! Can we do a international study of the other types of boxing styles, the Mexican style, U.K punching of the jab, U.S "hit and don't get hit" sweet science , eastern European, etc... this would be awesome international coverage and breakdown
Looking back at the Lara vs Canelo, in my opinion, lara showed how to handle Canelo, as later on, Mayweather fought him identicly, and not to say that Mayweather needs any help he is perhaps the smartest fighter I have ever seen.
The Cuban style comes from Kid Chocolate and his academy, then Kid Gavilan and others, Ray Robinson, got the stile from Chocolate and Ali from Kid Gavilan who worked with him, the Cuban style is in those two great figures of US boxing.
great style, like dancing too. bit capoeira-vibes I get from it. 30 years ago our Wu shu trainer invited skilled and grand trainers to give us master-classes. The Ciubano champ that came over to Holland I enjoyed the most. Very happy style of boxing.
I always wished I could be more agile and graceful like a Cuban boxer, currently I pendulum step around the ring which doesn't seem lightyears away from salsa dancing with gloves and a mouthpiece in after watching this video. Going to watch this video till I can memorise the words and memorize how to dance
Search for a Cuban dance school in your region... Or, you can find some Cuban music videos (be sure are Cubans) , get a lady and try hard. Good luck! :)
Please make the breakdow of styles like sovietc, american, europen or like out boxer, swamer, sligger and boxe puncher please you videos are my favorite of boxe
Great video once again! Seeing Canelo miss so many punches is unusual, Cuban boxing style is definitely scary. I though the elusive footwork of Cuban boxers might make them weaker punchers but they are so accurate with their fists that they probably don't even need that much strength to KO their opponents. As a non-boxer I find myself asking: how difficult it is to a European boxer to add this "sugar" to his boxing style? It is even possible? Maybe a long stay in Cuba would do the job, lol.
First, the transition of body strength to the fist in Cuban boxers is less noticeable because their fluidity and speed, but it is there... And precision comes with this elasticity, you cannot hit well if you are unbalanced... And yes, you can learn to be a dancer, it is all about purpose... Maybe you will not achieve the level of perfection of a Cuban dancer, but for sure you can learn, and then you will notice the improvement :)
Heres the secret. They fight STRONG HAND IN THE FRONT. So a lot of right handed southpaws. Give it a shot, very natural footwork with that style. But weaker rear cross
The Cuban and Soviet boxing styles are amazing. And here I thought the American style was amazing, nope. I still respect boxers that find success with the styles they use. By the way, I love the music in this video. 🥊🎶
We heard the Footwork came from Americans The Strength from Europeans The Science from Russians But no mention of the “Rythm’s” heritage Like it just came out of thin Air Cuban music was influenced by Slaves , let’s not pretend here
From what i see they don't do something out of the ordinary they master the fundamentals all the punches u see it's all fundamentals n basics n they hiding it by dancing n moving in different rhythm so they can be unpredictable n frustrating there opponent n keep em guessing

Yes it’s more of a mentality than a defined technical style. Good observation!
Good point. Your vids also helped understand Cuban Footwork better😉

I love that addition of “Sugar” as the special ingredient. I think I’m going to experiment with shadow boxing and heavy bag work with music

Soviets brought their boxing style to Cuba & it did wonders for them
Clearly didn't watch the video
Apparently it IS more the structure of soviet training that helped but it did not shape that much the style
