Awesome video! I've been living semi-off grid for a little over three years. Running water only, no electricity or gas. For the last 18 months, I've been cooking on a rocket mass heater and have learned to adapt many of my favorite recipes. The one thing I've been searching for is a better way to make biscuits than Bisquick and water. THANK YOU, JOSH! Can't wait to try the beautiful buns you cooked in this video. (And please don't read anything into that last statement: I'm old enough to be your mother 🤣🤣)
Bisquick is just flour, salt, baking powder and/or baking Soda. You can make your own and store it in a glass jar. There are tons of videos/recipes for camp biscuits. Buttermilk biscuits at the end of vacation (when the milk was no longer fresh) was always delicious. Or add some sugar and freshly picked berries, bake in a disc instead of making individual biscuits, for some delicious scones. We used to off grid camp all the time…before the term off grid was even a thing LOL
I'm building a house, a little bit at a time, and have a small solar panel setup to run lights, laptop, and phone. Heat and cooking are supplied via a rocket mass heater I built using an old BBQ pit and other bits of scrap. When I finish the house I will decide whether to hook up to the grid for my electric needs or to go another route. I don't watch television, but I watch videos on my phone and sometimes on my laptop.

My mom hogs the kitchen all day. It’s a small kitchen and she always has something going on the stove. Which makes it hard for me or my cousins to cook something. So I busted out my camping supplies and set up a table outside. It works great when it’s not raining. When it rains I move it to the porch or to the dining room. Also my fiancée’s mom is renovating her kitchen so she’s moved everything outside and cooks on her gas grill. It can be done! Especially in Southern California!
Good one. More of that please. People always stare at me when I'm camping and making food from fresh sourdough bread to paella in my simple offroad teardrop style camper kitchen that has nothing but a 2 flame burner, a small sink with a bucket under it and about 20 inches of countertop. Yes, you can do a lot in a very simple kitchen like that.
@@vaseklepic12 The only better equipment I can see him having than anyone here is the cordless burner. Everyone should have at least 1 knife, bowl, pan/pot, and cooking spoon (literally all my cooking items). I do have a burner WITH a cord but it's not too difficult to find outlets to be able to turn it on- maybe not in the forest exactly, but there are certain adapters you can get to make it work. I know all this because I've done it for nearly 8 years, having to adapt cooking styles and what I eat, being without a home.
I once made one of those comments he was taking his frustration out about a long time ago. I have since changed my mind and I watch one of Josh's videos almost every single day
People are just projecting their excuses for not cooking on you. I make most of our dinners homemade and appliances make it easier but I can certainly do it all by hand.
I think there's a good reason that the meatballs came out so well. One of the factors in tenderness for meatballs is myoglobin. Because it was chopped by hand, there was no heat, no overworking, and the meat was very course. That led to very little myoglobin production. If you had a been doing this in a kitchen, you might even use a cold sheet pan to further keep the meat cold and minimize the myoglobin even more.
he'd ace it, air friers are just litte convection ovens, if it can be done in a pedestrian and the shit fits, it can be done in an air frier, just a bit quicker and better there's airfry snacks too, and despite not all of them being as good a deep-fried, a lot of them are pretty good, it's just a matter of infusing the fat in them beforehand josh has the technique to know how to wrap and dial in shit he'll do perfectly fine an air fryer can replace 70% of your kitchen cookers if you tailor things for it, that's not hard at all sure i still sweat by the broiler option on my oven, but the air fryer is just as good as a fast and small convection oven, if you rip on the air fryer, you'd be ripping on ovens by proxy which is just kind of a tried and true concept the real reason for air fryers being popular, is the decline of homes with a lot of people in it, as well as bullshit propped up propaganda about health, many people are single or just with 2 and prefer it over the oven, like ragusea said, a lot of recipes asssume bigger scale you may not alwyas need, back in the days you'd be in a home of 4-6 realistically, and both my mom and dad were 1 of 10, a generation before that (but it was right after WW2 in the netherlands, so the 50s were our post-war baby boom) even the housing crisis is exacerbated by more people living alone rrather than keeping an entire family, when you look adt the bigger picture all the things make sense
You are the best! Also anyone who cooks should have some basic tools to cook or enough common since to just substitute where needed. Don’t have a meat grinder? Just buy it already ground.

I love how people were complaining about the expensive stand mixer or pasta cutter or whatever but Josh just said - “I don’t even need an oven”
Best episode so far, thanks Josh. Can't wait to make homemade strawberry ice cream now using this method with my little girl.
I really hope this becomes a series, I live in Syria and don't really have good equipment around so something like this would be awesome to help me cook more
I love this so very much...
Shows what everyone can do...
Nothing fancy, just EXCELLENT Eating!!!
We need a part 2, this is great Papa
Would like more of this kind of videos!
I love your food. I even bought your book. I do wish you had more recipes without all the fancy equipment but I've been able to recreate a lot of your recipes without them. It probably just takes longer.
Ill be completely honest, even as someone whos worked in kitchens and went to school for it, I too find some of your videos kind of unapproachable. But simultaneously I know if i still had access to a comerical kitchen and all the tools at home I'd use them too. Great video, fun to see you in a different setting
this should be a series....also would really love to see how you would do burger buns....which looks as good as the once done in an oven without using an oven
If you’re using all the tools or not, your shows are always great 👍🏻
Hey Josh! We've all seen your, "But better" and " But cheaper" videos, and they're awesome. Can you start a new series, maybe called "But really?" where you show us how restaurants make their food and how much it costs them? Papa kiss!
You are amazing and I always appreciate your videos! Never let the trolls get to you; some people just want to be unhappy for some reason.
I love this video, i would enjoy every bite it delivers out.
Buddy you sure know how to make a show! Love the content and cooking tips
3:43 Thank you everyone for your condolences; Don't blame the Bison, blame the fool who stood in their way...
This man never fails to entertain us... 😄👍🏻
this is why i love joshua he’s just to funny and the best out there for sure
Love the channel and videos. Just got your cookbook yesterday, can’t wait to try some new stuff.
I hope he makes a series about off-the-grid cooking.
I mean, this kinda is off the grid!
Go to akzmalan Kitchen or wtf ever its called.. Thats where he got this from. IDK why content creators never plug other channels. Thats where he go this idea from but never said a word about it.. IFH that about people. We know you took the idea from another page, just say it and be honest.
Reply updates are off. I'm sure I'll get nothing but igggnint ass hate from loyalists looking to defend Joshua and his honor. LMAO.. not here for that.
@@mr.e0311 damn this is sad
@@mr.e0311 you think cooking outside without fancy tools is a new concept smh
@@mr.e0311 almazan didn't "invent" cooking outside lmao
At first I was like "he could've done this in his kitchen and still proved his point" but then I realized he's from Texas😂 go hard or go home! ❤
This is the Primitive Weissman content I needed
This video plus the one with JG might be your best ones yet!
Fantastic, great job!
And thank you! :)
I love that you you love that you make me want to cook. At I least if I take a guess. Thanks for sharing!
2:08 instructions unclear. Testicles burnt
When Gordon goes into different countries and cooks, yet we're all waaaay more excited to see Josh in the woods cooking. Can't wait for the new cookbook!!
No kitchen, no appliances, etc...then @8:38 pop it in the frig over night. lol Where was he hiding the frige? :)
We just moved into a motel temporarily while we house hunt and I’m already so tired of microwave food. Thanks for making this! Excited to try it!
New challenge: open fire, Cast Iron skillet/Dutch oven and a knife (and a cutting board)
Bro makes better food than I ever will in a forest
He also has better equipment than I do at home in that "forest"
Just remember that Josh had to start from somewhere! 😉
I have since changed my mind and I watch one of Josh's videos almost every single day
Amazing! Please turn this into a series
People are just projecting their excuses for not cooking on you. I make most of our dinners homemade and appliances make it easier but I can certainly do it all by hand.
Oh man I want you to make a camping cooking guide. Because I love outdoor cooking on trips, but it’s hard to bring a lot of equipment and ingredients
Oh and cooking on coals from a fire is dank and you should try a South African braai
Видео горячее, как бабушкины пирожки. ❤
You know what Papa, Don't listen to those haters. We, your true fans, LOVE YOU and all we want is more Papa's kiss in our lives.
I'd like to see Josh's take on the "do this entirely in an air fryer" videos
he'd ace it, air friers are just litte convection ovens, if it can be done in a pedestrian and the shit fits, it can be done in an air frier, just a bit quicker and better
there's airfry snacks too, and despite not all of them being as good a deep-fried, a lot of them are pretty good, it's just a matter of infusing the fat in them beforehand
josh has the technique to know how to wrap and dial in shit he'll do perfectly fine
an air fryer can replace 70% of your kitchen cookers if you tailor things for it, that's not hard at all
sure i still sweat by the broiler option on my oven, but the air fryer is just as good as a fast and small convection oven, if you rip on the air fryer, you'd be ripping on ovens by proxy which is just kind of a tried and true concept
the real reason for air fryers being popular, is the decline of homes with a lot of people in it, as well as bullshit propped up propaganda about health, many people are single or just with 2 and prefer it over the oven, like ragusea said, a lot of recipes asssume bigger scale you may not alwyas need, back in the days you'd be in a home of 4-6 realistically, and both my mom and dad were 1 of 10, a generation before that (but it was right after WW2 in the netherlands, so the 50s were our post-war baby boom)
even the housing crisis is exacerbated by more people living alone rrather than keeping an entire family, when you look adt the bigger picture all the things make sense
Ah yes, let the chocolate/PB pan chill in the fridge that you carried into the woods.
technically you still used a kitchen
Your profile pic is so fitting for the comment😂
You are the best! Also anyone who cooks should have some basic tools to cook or enough common since to just substitute where needed. Don’t have a meat grinder? Just buy it already ground.
I love the new content . This and the restaurant one were really good. Keep it up because you've taught me so much about food.❤
New challenge Series coming this fall "Without a Kitchen" Where Joshua and a guest chef attempt to make amazing food in the middle of nowhere, with limited supplies and a limited pantry, and for SnG lets toss a timer on there too.
Ah yes, the classic *wild frying pan* that is found in nature.
Now try cooking without food
How can anyone comment that when literally i watch you're videos not only to make absolutely scrumptious food, but also to pick up my spirits and get a good laugh 😌. Love you're humor, love your food, love your personality ♥️
A just came here to learn how to cook without a kitchen but will end up binge watching your videos! ❤
