In 2000 I helped my Dad move back to Louisiana from Oregon, he bought a Ford dually truck with NO turbo. He had a 39ft fifth wheel, we had a horrible slow time in California getting over mountain passes. When we got to Bakersfield his truck ran out of engine power it would not go up the interstate incline. Called tow truck company they pulled my Dad's truck, 39ft fifth wheel connected all together with a small Pickup tow truck with no problem up the hill and to a campground. I couldn't believe that little tow truck had no problem pulling 20,000 lb.truck and trailer . IT CAN BE DONE. Oh I forgot, we spent 11 days on the road from Oregon to Louisiana, had all kinds of troubles, flat tires, buy new tires for the trailer I was pulling with my Dad's old Lincoln, spent 4 days in Bakersfield transferring hitch from old truck to the NEW Dodge duel wheel PU that he had to buy in order to get home, the moral of this story is, DON'T BUY A OLD FORD TRUCK W/O TURBO.

You need to sign up with AAA. They will take both of them a couple hundred miles if you need them to. If it wasn't for them. I would be screwed. Lived in Colorado. Broke down in the mountain. I was traveling north from Silverton, Colorado coming down out of the mountains to Ouray, Colorado and the brake pedal went to the floor. That was an exciting ride. Stayed overnight in Ouray. Had the truck fixed the next day, and then continued the trip. You have to adapt to the challenges and not let impromptu changes to your plans upset you.

Hope for the best. What year is your truck and mileage? Did you buy new? If it is a CP4, check out S&S DCR pump replacement. Also, recommend all 6.7 owners never run their tanks low on fuel. I believe there is evidence intermittent fuel availability is hard on CP4 pumps. Use a cetane booster like Archoil 6500. Good luck.

@@richpuller1348 C-P4 pump blows the fvck up and sends shrapnel to every single part of the fuel system. Every line, hose, injector, steel lines, plastic lines, every stinking part of the fuel system. And at dealer rates of approximately 180.00 bucks an hour. Cab comes off, tank comes out. Most times the failures are 10-12K. Warranty does not pay the mechanics very well so there will always be extras.

Here's the thing about tow trucks You didn't get a tow truck You got a flatbed there's a complete difference in trucks. Next time you deal with Geico tell them to send out a one ton or larger tow truck not a flatbed and that would have solved your problem. I'm getting so tired when you call for something you get a completely different response. A tow truck is a tow truck and a flatbed is a truck that hauls another vehicle, there's no way you can tell me in the location you were at there was not one single co-operator there that didn't have a truck that could come hook up to your axle and pull your truck away I don't believe that. Geico just was looking for the cheapest way. Just thinking outside the box but why didn't Geico call the Ford dealership to start with I would imagine they may have had a tow truck themselves, at least the Ford dealers in my local area have their own tow trucks I don't know if that's common or not.

Highly advise using a a third party Roadside service like GoodSams or AAA versus using your insurance company Roadside offerings. The Insurance company report your RoadSide Calls on your C.L.U.E. (Insurance) report as a claim, and you probably just got two strikes reported for this incident. They say they don't, but they absolutely do use those C.L.U.E reports when reviewing rates and eligibility. Folks have gotten cancelled/higher premiums for Insurance Roadside Assistance claims. Just an FYI.

Great warranty covers the CP4 & Fuel system replacement. Brief history, All 3 (Ford, Ram, GM) ran the CP4, all had CP4 failures; when problems developed and Identified with CP4; Ram & GM went back to CP3 because the engine block hadn’t changed. The Ford new 6.7 design with exhaust inside valley and smaller fuel pump sizing into new design didn’t have room to revert back to the larger previous generation CP3. That’s basically why Ford retained the CP4… designed around a smaller injector pump with no way to revert to CP3.
With failures becomming common, S&S brought out a "Disaster Prevention Kit" that prevented full fuel system failure; isolated failure to Fuel Pump only… highly suggest installing this low cost kit if running the CP4. Recently, S&S introduced a replacement Pump for the CP4 that completely removes the CP4 Fuel Pump failure called DCR Pump Conversion. It removes the Bosch CP4 pump and replaces with a Stanadyne DCR Pump providing an exact fit replacement within the 6.7 valley.
My question is "Why Ford hasn’t dropped the Bosch CP4" and began using the S&S Stanadyne DCR pump on new 2024 models and on these warranty repairs of the CP4. Now that there is a great solution to replace the CP4 without any other modifications to the 6.7, that’s the biggest quality question. It wasn’t just a Ford problem, all 3 Brands have / had the CP4 failure, but only remains with the Ford 6.7; The Ram & GM method of CP4 repair is to revert back to CP3 and stopped using CP4 in new Trucks.
I’d like to see Ford offer a S&S DCR replacement option in their warranty repairs, even if Customer has to pay for the DCR pump, I’d happily pay the $2000 for the DCR to be included in the warranty, have Ford cover the $13k fuel system and I’d pay for the DCR pump as CP4 replacement. You might check with Ford Dealer, I do know that Ford Dealers have installed the S&S DCR pump at Customers cost.

@@jeffs2809 Yep, my typo… GM used the CP4 and moved to the Denso, Ram moved back to CP3. My point was that all 3 used the CP4, GM & Ram were able to move off, but Ford couldn’t move off the CP4 due to new 6.7 block design for small format Pump. For reference: GM discontinued CP4 in 2016 and lawsuits still pending in 7 States.

The other is command HP, commanded torque and pedal monster (yea I got that also and it’s incredible, NO MORE turbo lag AT ALL). Looking forward to see what you do, if you need any help please feel free to reach out. I am retired, bored and have nothing to do at all.

Your towing fiasco due to struggling to get someone to even tow the truck and of course the trailer is another matter although simple in the sense of just needing a pickup with a king pin to tow it. My brother has an older Ford dually ( the lovely 6 liter ) and he has a full sized slide in camper on his unit, that presents some real problems at times to tow it as it requires a tandem axle tow truck with a very long deck and even then he has to unbolt the step on rear of the camper as it would hit the ground and self destruct it and the camper, also height restrictions become an issue with a tall camper on top of a deck truck as it won't fit under low over passes or through some tunnels. His ford has been on the back of a tow truck too many times it seems and he would know your pain of trying to get someone to tow it !. On an entirely different note, that photo you have up at the top of your channel webpage, that looks awfully familiar as in the far end of Maligne Lake at Spirit Island in Jasper NP, am I right ?

Geoff, I’m hoping that your CP4 high pressure pump didn’t go out. If it did your engine is probably toast. I’m finding out it’s a known issue but Ford (and some other brands who use that pump), aren’t doing anything about it that I can find. I’m going to be proactive and replace mine before it kills my engine. I’ll be waiting to hear what it is. I’m sorry you’re going through so much bad luck.

    • @markhaney7332

If your CP4 went, you may want to look into installing an aftermarket pump that won’t have a catastrophic failure like your current CP4 did. PTT did a video on one that is a direct replacement. You likely got bad fuel (water in fuel) … cost is $10K-$11K if they end up replacing complete fuel system. Sorry to hear - I have the same 6.7L diesel engine - the CP4 is its Achilles…

Because they are awesome. The CP4 fuel pump was used by Chevy and Dodge as well but they switched away from that in 2023 back to the CP3 pump due to all the failures, Ford has not done this because the 6.7 doesn't have the room for the CP3 in the valley. However there is apparently an aftermarket fix that can be installed that prevents this failure. I'm exploring that as a permanent fix for the 6.7, just seeing if Ford will approve this under the warranty...
