There is something about her purity of voice and her sweet delivery of this song that bring its sincerity and emotion to a higher level. Truely moving.
Although knowing this song, I hadn’t really listened to its lyrics before. Ms Jones’ signing and singing for some reason focused me on them. What a well constructed, meaningful and beautiful song. Hats off to Joni Mitchell and, indeed, to Ms Jones.
Joni sings an exceptional version later on in her life, and it's like she's reaching out through time. When you listen to the initial version it has the optimisim and vibrance of a twenty something, and you're right - in itself, it's such a beautiful song...But then you listen to her later version where she's in her 70's, and her voice is aged from smoking, drinking and living and it is transcendent and takes on a different meaning; less optimistic, and more reflective.
For some reason is her family are deaf so signing gave them the meaning f the lyrics. She's performing for her family. You must of not seen the movie to have not get that
Hairs raising on the back of the neck at such a perfectly pure vocal version that strikes at the heart of the vulnerable yet magical essence of the original version. Just stunning.
I watched it twice when it came to the movie theatres right at the beginning, in Gloucester, Massachusetts where it was filmed and where the story takes place. I lived there for 36 years, everything you see is real, no Hollywood backdrops at all. A magnificent place and a wonderful movie.
@@lauramitchell6725 CODA is the name of the film. It came out in 2021 (I haven’t seen it yet either. But it just bumped up to the top of my list of must-see movies!)
Man that must have been really powerful to watch it in the same town it was filmed. My sister lives in Marblehead and the most I get is recognizing places from Hocus Pocus. This is a phenomenal movie and so powerful. I’m so glad it won awards.
I saw the BAFTA rendition and it was great. However, the original is still the best for me. That connection she made to her parents while auditioning was superb! Bridging the gap indeed! Always makes me cry! 😭😭
This was a great movie! Ive always loved this song. Brings back childhood memories and watching this version brought me to tears. I'm a puddle, sobbing!
This is a lovely version of one of my favorite songs of all time. I used to love this song as far back into the childhood of the 60s as I can recall. ❤️
This message is like throw a rock in a lake, but i want to left it here. I loved some women, but i truly and deeply love one that i lost to a terrible disesase. This was true love i was with her until the last second. Im lucky that i knew true love and i miss her. I don't know why this movie and this song remember this, but i want to say: don't be afraid to love!
Of all the recordings and coverings of this wonderful song, Joni's remake in the early 2000 is my favorite, but, this wonderful performance stands alone as my 2nd favorite. This includes recordings by so many famous performers and singers.
I always find myself with a lump in my throat whenever i see this clip. I'VE WATCHED THIS CLIP A HUNDRED TIMES! WOOOW! Amazing you can convey love in so many ways and yet you find yourself not knowing what to say when you're in there.
This was the perfect choice of music for this place in the film. Great arrangement, great piano part, and Emilia Jones was magnificent. Well deserved Oscar movie of the year. Kudos!
@@AnneretteStrydom-tk1rp CODA (stands for Children of Deaf Adults). The movie won best picture, and best actor went to Troy Kotsur, who is actually deaf, as are Marlee Matlin and Daniel Durant, who played the brother.
What a wonderful cover of this iconic Joni Mitchell anthem. Beautifully performed. (& I definitely need to check out this movie!). Thanks for posting!!
I have no idea about the movie this is apparently from, but the way the singer incorporates sign language into her performance reminds me of my mother, who learned sign language (not because she's Deaf) when I was little, and her instructors suggested that their students practice by signing along to songs. 😻
I can see how much Emilia looks like her father, the Welsh singer, Aled Jones, and I can also hear that she has inherited his musical talent! I'd love to see this movie! ❤
@rosella1919. I absolutely love the duet a 45-year-old Aled does with his 15-year-old self, performing “Walking in the Air.” Came out in 2015. The harmonies are thrilling! Quite the voice…at both ages.
Only thing Joni has on this is that she wrote the song. This is beautiful and majestic. I love her voice, light and lilty. And the ASL just adds another component.
Thank you for posting this. I had seen this film some time ago on streaming channels and had actually forgotten the name. But I've been in a Joni Mitchell mood tonight and this appeared on my feed. I absolutely love this film! I teared up watching it and I just teared up watching this song, that you posted in its entirety. I didn't know other people had posted a chopped up version. There's a reason The film closed this way. How beautiful. THANK YOU ❤
This is a nice cover, but I still much prefer Joni Mitchell's version sung when she was older (the video of it here on YT has the cover of Joni in her 50's smoking in a bar).
Wish you could go back to when she walked in without her music and her teacher stepped up. I like when he hits wrong key to get her attention to go for it.
That was a good part too Ray. However, if you haven't seen the movie, you wouldn't understand the look Mr V gave her (referencing back to when they were in Mr. V's house and how he got her to make a "primal" noise). He said to her at that time; "Make the ugliest, grossest sound you can" in an attempt to get her to project her voice. That's why the scene you're referencing means so much to us.
I've just seen this for the first time and after two decades without crying I find myself in floods. This has been truly cathartic.
Davy Jones? I thoght you were dead!
@@majordude You have to remember that in the UK that is a very common combination of names, over 45.000 of us floating about at any one time!

This was a very good movie. And a song that never fails to punch me in the gut. She did amazing job. Joni should be proud.
I am so thankful to have witnessed this film and especially this performance. Forever grateful.
This is one of the most touching scenes I’ve ever seen. Gets me everytime. Beautiful

Beautiful rendition and such brilliant diction ever word clear an expressive. So rare today.
Such a beautiful rendition!
A song I've always held close to my heart. Hearing her rendition brought it to my soul.
So naturally beautiful. No gimmick or vocal manipulation. And so inspirational.

The best rendition I've ever heard. So emotional.
