I cried. It was heartwarming when she starting singing to them but when she started "signing" to them is when the tears really started flowing. That scene was very beautiful and it made the whole movie.
I am crying and weeping uncontrollably with happy tears for all the beautiful people who can’t hear this song but who feel it more than people who hear .
Emilia Jones should have been nominated and won for best actress shame on the academy! She is the one who did most of the work! Signing singing fishing and using an American dialect! Best film I ever saw!
Very rarely see a very inexperienced young actress getting the Oscar. Kind of like a teacher giving you a B because they know you can get an a. She’s got a tremendous career ahead of her.
I had argument with my brother and he’s hearing impaired and a couple hours I watched this movie and I realized how blessed I am to have him as my brother could not stop crying.
I haven't seen this movie (yet) but the part in this clip when the father places his hands on either side of his daughter's neck so he can "feel" her singing just broke me. It reminds me of my cousin, Krystal, who was born deaf. Specifically, when we were kids (10 or 11 or so) my parents and I came for a visit and we went to the maple festival (this was in northern PA). They had live bands playing outdoors and she and I sat on a hay bale to watch. She could feel the music through the ground with her feet. It was the first time she was ever able to physically experience music and the look on her face was so joyous.
Watching this from Japan. This is not just a great movie for disability community but the greatest one of all time. This coming-of-age movie appeals to your deepest self. Tender, raw, and passionate. You'll turn to every cringe you've ever had in your life. That is how well this movie depicts your life. If you haven't watched it yet, you're missing something important in your life.
This was my first concert I attended Judy Collins and she sang this song, my parents said I would not like the concert since it wasn’t rock n roll, I am so glad I insisted that I attend the concert .
She resented her family a bit because she never had a normal childhood & had to be “responsible” for them at an early age interpreting in their behalf to the hearing people in their community. She was also bullied in school and there was a bit of dialogue that she had a “speech problem” developing normal vocal sounds growing up around deaf people and found early on that singing/music was not only her outlet but eventually corrected the “freakish voice” (as per her bully schoolmates) as she got older. The scene where her parents could not hear her sing in the Fall Concert was heart-breaking & had to rely on the reactions of other people around them to know if their daughter, Ruby really was a good singer. Just showed how alienated and isolated (& even insecure) the deaf family is from the hearing people in their town. Then later her father held her neck to “hear” her sing was a very poignant moment. It was beautiful, funny, & emotional. When she sang & signed BOTH SIDES NOW (A Joni Mitchell song) I lost it. BASED ON A FRENCH FILM . Btw, Emilia Jones (Ruby) is a British/Actress who gave a flawless North Eastern American accent, but also sang beautifully & signed perfectly - the latter which she did not know how in the beginning.
I loved this film .. saw it last night. I loved the scene where her father asks her to sing .. and the scene where she is performing in school and they mute the whole music to show to the audience how her family is perceiving the whole show. And the last scene where she signs in this song. What a heartwarming film
This song perfectly depicted Ruby's own personal experience with her family. It's the perfect CODA to this very special movie. I was in tears when she sang this, realizing how aptly true and poignant the lyrics were to her own life and relationship to her family.
It is as close to a perfect movie as you can make. Moves right to the top of my favorites list. Emilia is a brilliant singer and a rising actress talent for sure. I think the only reason she didn’t win an Oscar is because she is a newcomer and they probably just want to see more of her. She certainly deserved it.
I love this movie and this is one of my favorite songs reimagined and even more beautiful! I can't stop watching this and cry every time she starts signing the lyrics to her family. The movie also has fun moments and wonderful family moments. Best movie I have seen in a long time!
I would say this is the best movie I have seen these few years by far the most touching movie! I really love her voice accompanied by her sign language she learned within 9 months! Thank you for producing such an amazing movie!
JuST AWESOME! Can’t imagine how that would be to have my whole family deaf and not wanting to always be there to help them. It was such a great watch! Her voice is beautiful as well.
Wow, I haven't even seen the movie yet, but from the clips and from this video, I can tell this movie will easily become one of my all-time favorites. BTW, Gloucester is where I grew up, making this yet to be seen movie even warmer to this 70-year-old heart.

The actor Emilia Jones is English\Welsh speaking with an American Accent. She learned both ASL sign language and to sing while preparing for the role. The scene where she auditions (singing) Both Sides Now and speaking to the character’s deaf family is like as she says, walking and alternatively touching your nose and tummy (switching hands). I recently figured out that "Coda" is a remake from the french movie "La Famille Bélier" and I was a little scepetical because I love the french movie so much. What can I say beside that I'm really impressed! "Coda" is really fantastic and conveys feelings the same way as the original, I absolutely loved the movie and the vocal performance from Emilia Jones! "Coda" is without a doubt one of the rare remakes that can match with the original movie, I can't say which one is better because they are both fantastic! Big respect to Emilia Jones and all the other actors!
I told a childhood neighbourhood friend of mine to listen to this. She has had a hard, sad and challenging year. She loved the original, but she loves this version and it says so much to her. Beautifully sung, and to get Joni Mitchell to love it means you've done something right.

Me and my roommate will watch CODA the movie on Sunday afternoon before the Oscar awards starts. We have seen it before and we want it to watch again. 🤟🏻❤️🤟🏻
One of the best most heartwarming movies I've ever seen. There's simply can't be any more than a few people on the planet that could have pulled that role off like she did. 👏 Bravo.
Sian chose 17 years old actress over 25 years old (CODA) actress for this film because Emilia has an innocent look as 17 years old starting off to enter a real world on her own. You cannot do that with 25 years old actress. Sometimes it is meant to be.
After watching this film I called my daughter and said, "if this movie doesn't win best picture i'm never watching the Oscars again." When are the 2022 Oscars on???!!!
Close your eyes and listen to the words she sings carefully, you can hear her British accent towards the end, indeed you can hear every word she says, her diction is... perfect; love the movie, it most certainly deserved an "Oscars" it won, as did she really, next time Emilia.

They shake their heads they say I’ve changed
Well something’s lost but something’s gained
In living every day

I’ve looked at life from both sides now
From win and lose and still somehow
It’s life’s illusions I recall
I really don’t know life at all

I’ve looked at life from both sides now
From up and down and still somehow
It’s life’s illusions I recall
I really don’t know life at all
Excellent version of this classis song just chills. Wow.
One of the best movies I have ever watched in recent days !
... Es una pelicula que te coloca y te abraza en y desde lo simbólico , sin carecer de ningún pero ningún significante y te ubica en un lugar del que no te queres ir...
Such a beautiful movie, it shows how important family love is.
Exactly!
That’s how I felt. I saw a similar film in 1985. A made for TV movie called Love is never Silent on CBS. Set during & after WWII.
I can see why this movie won best picture it’s amazing
Just a beautiful movie. One of my favorite now. I added it to my list as soon as I started watching it !!!❤ in love
Beautiful song.
Best video of this song that I have seen..Well done....BRAVO
Thank you so much for watching! 🥰
Beautiful song and Beautiful story
I told a childhood neighbourhood friend of mine to listen to this. She has had a hard, sad and challenging year. She loved the original, but she loves this version and it says so much to her. Beautifully sung, and to get Joni Mitchell to love it means you've done something right.
Perfeito!! Um filme emocionante!! Assisti 3 vezes e assistirei outras vezes !
This song goes back many years but this scene gives this song more meaning that I could ever believe possible. Well done . I've got to blow my nose
This movie after watching it had me sobbing such a great movie a MUST SEE
Beautiful song and wonderful interpretation. Emocional video.
The best movie that I've seen for a long long time. What a beautiful movie about family. Love your family no matter what.
For someone like me who’s had some association with the deaf, this vid made me tear up.
Beautiful movie... everything perfect
自分用
Bows and flows of angel hair
And ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere
I’ve looked at clouds that way
But now they only block the sun
They rain and snow on everyone
So many things I would have done
But clouds got in my way
I’ve looked at clouds from both sides now
From up and down and still somehow
It’s cloud illusions I recall
I really don’t know clouds at all
Moons and Junes and Ferris wheels
The dizzy dancing way you feel
As every fairy tale comes real
I’ve looked at love that way
But now it’s just another show
You leave ‘em laughing when you go
And if you care don’t let them know
Don’t give yourself away
I’ve looked at love from both sides now
From give and take and still somehow
It’s love’s illusions I recall
I really don’t know love at all
Tears and fears and feeling proud
To say “I love you” right out loud
Dreams and schemes and circus crowds
I’ve looked at life that way
Oh but now old friends are acting strange
They shake their heads they say I’ve changed
Well something’s lost but something’s gained
In living every day
I’ve looked at life from both sides now
From WIN(give) and LOSE(take) and still somehow
It’s life’s illusions I recall
I really don’t know life at all
I’ve looked at life from both sides now
From up and down and still somehow
It’s life’s illusions I recall
I really don’t know life at all
Just a minor correction ...It's ROWS and FLOES of angel hair (not bows and flows). Aren't these the most amazing lyrics to a song?
Can't wait to watch
If this doesn’t wreck you, you don’t have a heartbeat
I think I am going watch this movie. Glad youtube smart sensor brought this to my attention.
This is an absolutely fabulous movie. This scene in particular is awesome!
THIS is sooo B E A U T I F U L …thank you!
I love how the dad asked her to sing loudly. And the last scene hit me to cry deeply when she sang with the sign. Yesss I cryy....Thanks for having me such a strong movie like this. Not so many in my life...
Nicely edited
she is not a trained singer but what a voice....and a face
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ Excellent Movie and Songs!
Absolutely gorgeous performance. I cried and watched over and over again.
Me too!!
Wonderfully Majestic
After watching this film I called my daughter and said, "if this movie doesn't win best picture i'm never watching the Oscars again." When are the 2022 Oscars on???!!!
Perfect! I know some ASL and this scene makes me cry. Thank you so much.
i wander why she didnt get nominated for best actress she is sooo good
This is brilliantly done, thank you 👏👏👏👌😭
Close your eyes and listen to the words she sings carefully, you can hear her British accent towards the end, indeed you can hear every word she says, her diction is... perfect; love the movie, it most certainly deserved an "Oscars" it won, as did she really, next time Emilia.
