I’m not a big fan of artificial sweeteners, but I recently started experimenting with monkfruit. I was craving lemonade and made some with fresh organic lemons and used the monkfruit instead of sugar. It tasted the same as it does with sugar and had no impact on my blood sugars.
As a newly diagnosed type 2 diabetic your videos have been extremely helpful!
I’m so happy to hear that. Thank you for watching
Me too. Newbie!
I just celebrated my 60th year as a T1D. THAT'S a long time!!!!!
That is a long time!
I haven't tried that flavor of the HighKey cookies, but I have tried some others that I liked. I guess that sweetener doesn't bother me.
It’s a shame, the human body some part we can replace but not the Pancreas yet!!!
I’m sure one day, it’s tucked in there somewhere behind stuff somewhere, just go easy on the sugar free stuff, good information as always 🙏🏻
Yeah but remember what drives all of this is money and they make more from us being ill and eating what they suggest so we buy medicine for life. Not 1 surgical cure. Like cancer, they’re making too much money looking for cure and no money in actual cure. Sad but true state of affairs in medicine today. I hope it changes, but it won’t any time soon. It’s why you’ll see a consolidated effort against carnivore diet, watch.

Diabetics should not snack. Every time you eat insulin is spiked. Eat full meals and fast in between and nothing during the night.
Agreed.
Agreed.
What if we’re just natural fatasses and just want something crunchy 😢
I’m glad to see that you liked the Lily’s gummies. I occasionally get a craving for candy as a treat, so it’s nice to have a blood sugar friendly option.
Thanks for another excellent video, Christel! 😊
Thank you. I’m so glad you liked it. These experiment take some time but are really fun to do
I use pork rinds for everything, grind them up to coat pork chops, chop up to use as a croutons...no impact on blood sugars, good crunch, too.
I'm so glad I found you. I've have Type 2 for about 10 years and I get zero help from my endrocronoligist. My blood sugar looks like a roller coaster. It's a day to day struggle. Any gems of advice are greatle appreciated. My limiting issue: I'm allergic to nuts. (bummer) Thank you.
Glad you’re here. Peer support can’t replace a good medical team but I do think learning from each other is very valuable. I have a playlist focused on lowering blood sugars, you can find it here: ua-cam.com/play/PLP1_U1UAmvW4EwkD66aGOmdumaPWWXMG6.html&si=H1R5xkmgWBIPfORs
Incorporating foods like avocados and nuts before bedtime to help stabilize blood sugar is such a great idea! I’ve always struggled with blood sugar spikes, and now I have a list of go-to foods to help manage that. The section about berries and their fiber content was especially interesting-definitely going to start eating more of those!
I have a problem with all of the Choc Zero candies. All the ones I've tried really raise my blood sugar a lot. Not worth it for me.
We're really sorry to hear that. We use monk fruit as our sweetener and include prebiotic fiber which has been proven to help folks regulate their glucose levels. Of course, everyone is metabolically different, and if you find our products don't work for you we will refund your order. 💕
In Australia we have a lolly (candy) brand called Funday. They are great. My fav one has 3.3g carb, 7g dietary fibre and no suger alchols. Negative bey carb amount of 3.7g
The Lily's also has allulose, which is sugar, but doesn't act like it because it's sugar of a different molecule that your body doesn't fully absorb-maybe 1/10th. The Atkins brand seems to be one of the filthiest low-carb options (all sorts of chemicals.) I try to stay "cleaner." I find pork rinds a great option-packed with collagen, which should not be confused with generic animal protein, as collagen is not "essential" protein. Generally speaking, most people, especially after 40, don't get enough essential amino acids OR collagen.
For me, Net Carbs causes a huge spike. I have to go with full carbs.
Really appreciate this video. I'm (52M) type 2 and very carb sensitive. A 1/4 cup of oatmeal will hold me over 200 for 5 hours. Oddly, I'm very lean and muscular, about 8-10% body fat, sleep well, don't drink, but I guess crappy genes. A militant diet and LOTS of exercise keep my A1C between 5.5 and 5.6.
I don't mind fat, as it's always a struggle to get enough calories in. But, as a personal trainer/nurse, I'm very opposed to saturated fat. The ingredients in a lot of your "like" list are things I wouldn't eat, but I'm sure other people will benefit. And there are a few that I will check out.
Thanks. Always enjoy your videos. Good information and great presentation.
Thank you for sharing. What’s your favorite snack (for my next list 🙂)
And as you say there’s a lot of things you eat that I wouldn’t, but each person is different and able to eat certain that others can’t. I eat tallow and ghee and kerry gold butter. Add beef and eggs and there you have my total menu. It reversed my diabetes and dropped 65 pounds eating this menu and no calorie restrictions. I feel the best I have in too many years! I eat cause I need to, I eat when I’m hungry, and I eat till I’m full.
Stay safe
Nothing exciting. I have a major sweet tooth, but I know how that ends, so I stick with seeds and nuts, and 88% dark chocolate.
I also make my own xylitol candies, which is just xylitol and cinnamon, for oral health, but I limit that to about 6 grams a day
And yes, I am fun at parties 😬
@@EdwardsNH 😆
They are very good but so little and expensive, not for me.
My go-to snacks include the archer meat sticks and simple cheese-sticks. I am also eating beef jerky if I can find it without any sugar. Also, I just started eating Jello cups which have no sugar or carbs.
Look for the Tillamok Country Smoker Zero Sugar brand.
Annie's cheese puffs don't move my glucose much, but Cheetos do. Similarly, with premade popcorn I do well with Palo or the Meijer store brand, but Smart Pop doesn't live up to its name. Whisps parmesan crisps don't move it at all. None of these options are great on sodium. Not exactly a snack, but Jolly Rancher has zero sugar hard candies that taste good and reduce the urge to snack.
Thanks for the tips!
Thanx for the tips
how many net carbs do you eat average per day as an active person?
I don’t follow a set amount of carbs. Setting firm rules doesn’t work for me mentally. But with my current routine, I’m at around 15 grams for breakfast and 20 grams for lunch. Dinner differ widely
If I feel the need for a snack, I eat bacon! 🥓 I have the mindset that carbs and sugars are poison to me and my body. It makes things easier for me.
Stay safe
You might like the Archer meat sticks I tried. Similar base and very portable
@@DiabetesStrong I will look into them. I have seen carnivore bars, but they’re way too expensive for me. lol
Stay safe
@@Obligate.Carnivore Sounds like you're a fan of Fluffy math. 😼
@@HariSeldon913 I’m sorry, not aware of that one. But then math has never been my thing. Care to explain? Thanks
Stay safe
@@Obligate.Carnivore Comedian Gabriel Iglesias, whose nickname is Fluffy, is diabetic and his doctor gave him 2 years. He moved to a diet similar to Atkins - low carb, all meat - and other people told him the cholesterol will kill him. His response was the cholesterol would take 10 years as opposed to the 2 years he was given with the diabetes, so by his math he was ahead by 8 years.
So informative! Will be very interested to know of a coffee sweetener that has minimal impact on blood sugar.
Thank you. I will be using this information. 🐻❤️❤️❤️
Thank You
How come everything that's low carbs or zero surgar cost some much more? 🤔
Diabetes strong what do you think about protein powder and creatin for doabetec os ot safe tonconsume to build some muscles ?
I’ve used protein powder when I’ve struggled to meet my protein goals (especially in muscle-building phases). It worked for me but you have to really pay attention to the sugar content. I’ve always liked the Met-Rx brand
@@DiabetesStrong thank u for your answer my A1c is 5.4 even if I eat sweets and high carb things I'm not sure if I'm diabetec I dont take any med .I had gestational diabetes before. Where can I buy this brand of protein. ?
I used to buy it on Amazon amzn.to/3XSQeVb
Here is my list which are diabetes/keto compliant
Choc Zero white or dark chocolate
Evolved Simply White or Dark
Sunflower seeds (plain or salted)
Pumpkin seeds (plain or salted)
No sugar added beef or bacon jerky
100% cheese crackers
Macadamia nuts (plain or salted)
Thank you for sharing. I see we have some overlap
always helpful contents 👍 Thank you so much, and stay healthy 🎉
Thanks 💛
I just started insulin and use Dexcom 7. My sugar is not under control yet. Big roller coaster. Also sugar alcohols make sick to my stomach. Get terrible diarrhea from them. Right now, trying to get sugar under control I have been drinking only water and eating only meat and veggies. No flours, no potatoes, no rice, no sugar.
Hang in there, sounds like you have a plan
Type 2. Mine are savory: Tillamok Zero Sugar Jerky and Sausages. Both the Original and Black Pepper have 0g carbs and 0g sugar and don't affect my blood sugar at all if I eat the recommended serving size. The Teriyaki has 1g of carbs but still 0g of sugar. Haven't tried that one, so don't know about it's affect on BS. The sausages are the same 0g carbs and 0g sugar. The BIG heads up on these is the sodium content. If you are doing a salt restricted diet, definitely give these a pass. My low sodium on is Planters NUT-rition in the packs. They are already portion sized and have 6g carbs, 1g sugar and only 40mg of sodium per pack. My sweet go-to's are Atkins Caramel Nut Chew Bars at 11g net carbs (16g before fiber) and 1g sugar. Atkins KETO Peanut Butter Cups, with 6g net carbs (12 before fiber) and less than 1g of sugar. And Atkins Strawberry Shortcake Bar, with 7g net carbs (18g before fiber) and 1g sugar. The shortcake bar has the most affect on my BS, probably because it's the largest of the bunch. Still is usually only a 10-20 point rise over two hours.
Thank you for sharing. I really liked Atkins as well
Thank you for this awesome video💗
Had the RX Bar one time. Tasted really good, but for the rise in blood sugar, I would have preferred a Snickers bar.
Same!
How do you feel about the Siete brand products? I noticed major spikes. 🤔
Any specific product or all of them?
Thank you for this video. It really helps.
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent information
Where do u purchase those pork rinos pls ?
I found them at a local supermarket (in Miami)
Choczero spikes my blood sugar.
Thank you for sharing that
@@DiabetesStrong only reason I know is I used a CGM to track it for my metabolism. Not sure why but I love the taste. I do ok with GOALZ. Not bad.
Oh no, we're sorry to hear that! While we make sure our ingredients are low glycemic, we know that every body is different which is why have a 100% customer satisfaction policy. We'll refund you if they don't work for you 💕
I have very sensitive taste buds. I can’t stand the taste of any sweetener other than sugar. I’ve tried so many things.
I also am not a very big sweets eater. I rarely eat candy, cookies, cakes etc. I drink water almost exclusively. Unsweetened teas, if I should want juice I always water it down 50-75%.
I really appreciate these videos. I’m learning a lot about diabetes. Thank you.
Have you tried monk fruit?
I find the keto approach to net carbs unhelpful for me as a diabetic. Every time I eat something that’s got you know 40 g of carbs and 25 g of fiber and 4 g of sugar alcohol. It still thinks that there’s 40 g of carbs and at least that’s what my blood sugar does.
And I love bread so I’ve tried all the bread substitutes to try and find something that’s good and I think the only that works for me is less carbs.
Yes, that does seem to be the case for some people. Good thing you’re aware so you can manage accordingly. Thank you for sharing
On bread. I use Soba brand and it has minimal effect on my blood sugar. So with that Skippy Naturals and Smuckers Zero Sugar, I'm able to have a PB&J with just a bit of a spike.
These sugar-free snacks are wasted calories and simply fuel the desire for more sweets. Sauerkraut. Great snack. 44 calories per cup. Filling. Good fiber.
Disgusting.
Great idea! Gonna get some tomorrow
