I used to work in the hopper business hauling Bone Meal and this is exactly what they do with these dead cows from feed yards. They will remove the hide and sell it. The rest gets grinned completely and dehydrated to the point it looks like dirt. When I hauled it, it used to get shipped to chicken factories like Pilgrims and yes the chickens ate it. I know they made dog food out of them and also they would do the same process to dead pigs but they would feed those back to the pigs. I was explained that the cow is the only animal that can't eat itself. When they tried feeding grinded dead cows back to cows, that's when they discovered the "mad cow disease."
I worked for a dead livestock removal company over 30 years ago. We used a cable winch to pull an animal onto the truck. Then we had to climb over the stinking carcasses to get the cable for the next animal. The bovines and horses were butchered for mink food for a mink farm the company owned.
Two of my friends were walking through a field when they came across a dead cow bloating in the hot sun. They threw rocks at it from a distance. One punctured it and it made an audible hiss as it deflated. True story.
i remember dad having a cow die just before the 4th of july weekend and the rendering guy had taken an early weekend, the temperatures rose above 100F by the end of the first day dad moved it out of the yard because of the smell on a saturday. when the rendering truck arrived on tuesday july 5 at 3pm he hooked up 6 times to the cow and all he took was the legs, head, and tail. ewww!
People need to really look into their pet foods my dog actually died from eating that food that came from a rendering plant every single pet food but maybe two or three has products from a rendering plant that also include some of your make up that you all are wearing. By the way the pet food I know that is rendering plant free is wellness As well as natural balance. There may be a few others but these are the only two that I am absolutely aware of
Hello to part-time farmer I know a little something about these businesses and the one that picked up this animal is going for rendering and that means they're going to cook all the fats and proteins off of it in a huge cook pot in simple terms in which every part of the animal can be used and sold for profit which is why it is only $11 per pick up, however the company that you use more than likely "is" classified as a rendering company but more than likely a dead stock company that's picking your animals. In a short summary a dead stock company picks up the dead animals and then butchers them [ key word here butchers ] the animal for whatever can be used on it, mainly the meat and hides which none of goes for human consumption. The meat normally goes to either dog food or exotic carnivores such as lions tigers and bears. With that being said one of the biggest differences is a rendering company can sell 1000 pounds of product per dead cow and the dead stock company which in my experience is a lot more work you may only end up getting approximately 250lbs of product to sell. So rendering companies make a lot more money than us dead stockers and a lot of them are part of a much larger company such as Tyson Foods, meanwhile the dead stockers don't have the financial backing of enormous corporations but rest assured they put in the hard work and do their best to where they don't charge the customer (which are the ones they make their bread and butter) an arm and a leg to dispose of a dead animal which otherwise would go to complete waste, so if you can do me a favor there bud if you do have another dead animal that you have to call this company next time they show up instead of talkin about how fancy their vehicle is (because believe me if they could they would have much nicer and they're probably busting their ass 6 7 days a week to have what they do have), but thank them for there business if they even still are and for offering such a service to begin with. With all that being said my friend I'm not being rude or negative in any way just trying to educate a little bit on the subject I'm run dead stock myself and the reason we do this isn't for the money it's because we know it's something special and serves a special purpose.
A cow is a female bovine, which has produced at least one calf. The term "cow" should not be used to refer to any cattle regardless of sex. Incidentally that was either a steer or heifer that was loaded on to the truck, not very clear from the camera shots but was definitely not a cow.
Eddie some people are aware of the difference but choose to say cow as a generic description of the animal, much like how the vast majority of people call dogs dogs regardless of if it's a bitch

A vet had to put down my horse with a broken leg. I asked who ya gonna call to pick up this dead beast and he said, "1-800-DEADCOW". $20 bucks for this truck to haul the animal away. If you eat jello, you probably ate part of my horse. Bon appetit.
10 to 12 dead cows a day?! From the same feedlot? If it is, someone needs to investigate why the high death rate! I know that many of these animals are at the end of their lives anyway, but good grief!
@@steelmaniacwi yeah 75 animals a week is normal. It can still be labeled 'Cruelty Free' and 'Humane' on the packages of meat. This is what you pay for. Animals allowed to die of exposure and sickness. yum.

A lot cheaper than the u.k over here they charge £120 for a cow and £20 for a sheep
It is amazing how many people do not know the difference between a cow, a heifer or a steer. That was not a cow!

Eddie a lot of people don't know the difference, and just imagine the tittle "picking up a dead heifer" they would have no idea what animal it is

they said how he died at the end
oh shit. this cow is a very good actor

Rigor mortis has set in but the physics of the drop into the dump truck overpower the rigor mortis.

Because they’re…dead.
Also dead things stiffen. It’s called rigor mortis. Aka why corpses are sometimes called stiffs.
