Thanks for watching everyone! ❤ We really appreciate everyone who comes back and watches our videos! Grandma put the link to lovey dovey baby blanket kit in the pinned comment if you want to make that blanket 😊 it’s my first blanket that is in kit form so I hope everyone likes it! We are 3 members away from 200! We will be doing another giveaway when we get there! Have a good day ❤
I found success with this yarn. Use a 6mm for rows 1 and 2, 5.5mm for all remaining rows and you don't have to guess on tension. I've made 4 blankets with this yarn, all different colors. Well worth the money if you figure out your tension and just adjust hook size
I love the colors Red Heart has for the granny square yarn. But I would never use it to make granny squares. They make beautiful hats & scarves on the Addi though! ❤️ So I will keep buying them to use on my Addi ❤
I knew from the very first time I saw this yarn that I would not buy it. It requires too much work, just to make a granny square. And I love making granny squares, it’s my favorite. , I really admire you. We’re doing all the samples with this yarn. I’m sure it took a lot of patience. Good job.❤
I love the all in one granny square yarn. I make blankets, your baby waves blanket. I hand knit hats with matching fingerless mitts. I crochet scarves to match. I love the randomness of the color changes. Thank you! ❤
so for the all in one granny color ways, there are 3 types: soft white, aran (sort of a cream color), and black. This represents the color on the outside of each granny. then the other words like "amethyst" are the colors on the inside. I have a lot of colorways of this yarn and I've fully crocheted 2 skeins of it. I really like it. Yes, at first you'll need to learn how exactly to make it work for your tension (there are tricks, like doing fewer chains in the corners or swapping to a different hook for certain rounds), but once you solve that, you are off to the races. I could probably get through a whole skein (15-16 granny squares) in a day. It's just so fast! And isn't it funny I never end up with too little yarn at the end. I always have a huge tail leftover!
I bought the all in one granny yarn on sale, I bought enough to make a blanket without using granny squares I'm using like a regular skein of yarn and just crochet until I need to add another slein to it. My sister asked me to split what I bought and use amethyst between the other yarn. We just liked the colors in it - the purple and blues one
The color names all start with aran, white, and black so that you can buy the red heart solid color to correspond with the last row, for joining them or making borders.
I've seen others show this yarn also. I personally wouldn't buy it either. I always love watching your videos and thank you for taking your time to share this with us. Happy crocheting! 🙏💜🤗🧶
I love Cody's Granny Square yarn tips! Thank you for making all these swatches! I really like this yarn & have made several projects with it -- but it took a lot of patience learning to make it work!! ❤😂
I'm from Australia so when I have been able to acquire some of the granny square yarn I've been all the more determined to get it to work, as I have to just be in the right place at the right time to find what I want as it's not just on the shelves like it is in the US, and not with the labels on it either, it's in mill ends bags from your overstock. The best suggestions I can make which I have also read below, is that you need to keep changing your hook size as you go, I alternate from one round to another between a 6mm and up to a 7mm, and I have a tighter tension the same as Cody. Some rounds I've had to get very creative and switched hooks even during the round, but doing that helps to make the yarn go further on the outer rounds that need more. I also didn't make my granny square as suggested on the label, I have done a magic circle, chain less in between stitches in the corners and don't chain at all on the sides, and as soon as I did that it worked much better for me! I watched a video from someone who was actually part of the creative process of coming up with this yarn concept, and they also suggested to change your hook size as you go, bigger if you have extra yarn, smaller if you are trying to stretch it, but that was a very interesting video to watch! I've also seen some people make alternative squares, can I suggest watching Elise Rose Crochet, she did a wonderful review on this yarn a few months ago and showed a clip of someone who made an African flower square, the metered square and a couple of others, which I haven't done yet but think it would be interesting to try out! Keep going! :)
I recently finished a granny square blanket using the Red Heart granny square yarn. I followed the directions and had no problems. I made a few minor changes to my tension, but it worked out great! I recently had the honor of presenting it to my Aunt for her great-grandson.
I've used two of the black-bordered types, but for moss stitch afghans, and they came out lovely! I knew I wasn't even going to attempt to make grannys out of them, too much fartin' around to get it to come out correctly! 😂 I crochet for relaxation, and if I had to play around with the tension constantly, *I'd* be tense, and likely attempt to stab some unlucky bystander with my hook.... What I LOVE about these yarns is that every skein starts out (and ends) exactly the same as the next skein you grab. I'm planning on making a hex-granny cardigan with another one of the color mixes of this, and that consistant color change will help me keep my sides and sleeves balanced. ❤
I couldn’t get the granny squares to work for me so I made a hat with this yarn and I liked it a lot. So I would probably use it for other projects that aren’t granny squares. I love the colors, though. The lily pad is beautiful.
I've used the granny square yarn but not for granny squares. I took 2 skein and pulled 2 ends (starting with different colors) and hold them togther. It makes a nice mix.
Hi Cody & Glenda! About the RH Granny Square yarn: You might want to watch the review by Michael Sellick of The Crochet Crowd. He did it when the yarn first came out & ran into all the same issues. But he also showed some "helps' & work-arounds. MY final decision was, "It's not for me." I crochet to relax so I'll stick with the old fashioned method, thank you. I get frustrated enough when I mess up; I don't need help with that. 🤣🤣🤣 Thanks for your review. It confirmed my decision. 💞
Today I met a lady at my mom’s physical therapy and she and I talked about crochet as I was working on Cody’s baby blanket. I told her about your challenge on UA-cam and she signed up on the spot…😊❤ I may not be a member yet, but I do what I can for your channel. I try to watch every video and watch it to the end, sometimes even watch it two times if I’m really interested in the content. Enjoy our both and am learning much. 🎉
I have yet to try the granny square yarn but I want to. I like a lot of the colors but I don't want the stress. 😂 One skein in my next order won't hurt. If anything I would just use it like a varigated yarn, abstract art. 😂 Thanks for sharing!
I made a granny square bag with this yarn and I started with a 5mm hook, when I noticed I would run short I used a 4.5mm hook. Once you figure out what you need to do it worked well for me.
I love this yarn. I love having the colors picked out and I love not weaving in the ends. I have made some aprons, a purse, bag cover and a pillow. Love your video. Very informative. Vianney Creates uses this yarn to make the sunburst granny. Very pretty.
I don’t make granny square blankets so I wouldn’t buy that yarn, but I do like the colors. I would like to try making a scarf with just a straight stitch to see what that would look like. Thank you for sharing your samples and opinions. 🧶💜🙏🏻
I love the granny square yarn, I have made a blanket , 2 tote bags and a scarf. I use my own granny Square “recipe” and it works out well with minimal frogging.
I saw how much trouble people on youtube were having to work this into squares that came out correct. Even so, I purchased every color they've made so far and made hats as well as scarves working side to side. I found it makes an interesting pattern when worked that way instead of long rows. They've come out with a Flower Power line that is basically the same but you are starting with a flower, but they've not had in any stock. Thanks for sharing!
I have a lot of that yarn. You need to change your hooks - i use 4, 4.5 and 5 and you'll know what to do after making a couple. 😊 Oh, the last round has to be tight enough and have color left over to weave in the end - that is prob why the beginning color has a little more than needed.
After looking at several UA-cam reviews, I decided to buy the granny square yarn for other projects. The 1st one was a locker rug for my daughter & the 2nd one was a stuffed monster. I loved how they turned out. I would definitely get it again to make more monsters.
I believe the crochet crowd has a tutorial based on his tension. Cody you were talking about your experience with the yarn. That baby blanket is beautiful.
The different stitch patterns are very pretty with the granny square yarn. I actually prefer to make the not traditional squares with this particular yarn. Thank you for the swatches and thoughts. Love y'alls videos Stay inspired and Have a Blessed Day ❤
I find that I have extra yarn every round, but I like the yarn anyway. I am excited about the 22 new color ways of the NEW “Flower Power” all in one square yarn. I want to try your anniversary cake Afghan in this yarn.
Yes!! Please make some granny square projects. They seem to have become popular again and I’m seeing more videos with them in blankets, clothing, purses and hats.
Hi Glenda and Cody! I love the red heart granny square yarn! With the exception of the colors bleeding into the white. Maybe they have worked this out, I bought the yarn when it first came out. I have since bought some more where the border is black. Thanks so much for the video! Your squares look great!❤
I saw several people on u-tube using this granny square yarn they finally settled on a 4 mm crochet hook. Glenda that blanket is beautiful ! ❤️ Ypu crochet so beautifully. Fancy yarn shops usually have knitting crochet groups that meet once a week. You might check into that. Love your videos. You guys are great. Keep the videos and tutorials coming.
I don't have to worry about the strike I have enough yarn for 6 months thanks for the heads up, I bought this gives me a reason to use my stash, and I use my granny square to make shawls and they turn out well I like them
We had a crochet group called Chain Gang. Unfortunately it disassembled after the pandemic. But I do belong to a Knit Wits group and Knit and Sew group. They are both located at Senior Center in my County in Georgia. I teach at both groups. Cody we will welcome you when you are 55. You keep working with your grandma. I enjoy the Creative Grandma channel.
I have seen several videos about this granny square yarn. Tempted to try it but I never make granny squares. I know they are crazy popular right now - BUT I am old enough to remember when they were a fad when I was a teen. 😳 Some of the new patterns are fun - I just might cave. Thanks for your honest opinions. ❤
As a matter of fact, The Crochet Crowd (Mikey) did a video on them and before the yarn actually came out he had to help in making it work. Because he could not show it when he was cleaning up his room. I don't have any of your colors but I do have 2 others. The red and the black and the orange and yellow that is really bright. I have not worked with them yet but I am not sure I am going to make granny squares out of them. I may try just to see what Cody was talking about.
Hi nice to see you Cody face was priceless to see I’m making Cody’s blanket but different color and yarn I like the look of the first granny square I thank it makes it more pretty when it runs together I hope you know what I meant
The positive…I actually had success with this yarn. I like it. I used the no seam granny square pattern from BOD and it worked fine with 5.5mm hook. I like the look of multicolored grannies, but don’t like all the changing colors 😣 once I got the hang of it, I just blew thru the squares. 🤷🏻♀️ I’m a very tight crocheter and this yarn helped me manage my tension better. 😊 The negative I found was bleed over into the white yarn. It turned dingy from the dye from the darker colors. I used the white amethyst. It’s on sale at JoAnn for 6.64 right now.
I bought a bunch of the Red Heart Granny Square and made a couple of blankets to donate. I had no intention of using it for the granny squares the yarn was made for. I picked a pattern and let the colors fall where they may. It turned out pretty darn good, if I do say so myself!!!!
I had the same experience as Cody when I Crocheted the Wheat Color Skein but I got better at it by the time I Crocheted the last one & I got 15 Squares out of my Skein 💖😊. I still have the Lily Pad & the White Amethyst that our precious Son In Law bought me at Wal-Mart for $4 a Skein 💙😊. I think it is an awesome concept if Red Heart would just make a few adjustments. It's going to be a shame if they don't & they definitely need to talk to whomever tested these Squares because it is a joke as it is!!! Thank Y'all so much for the Samples & for Sharing Your Thoughts 💖💙😊😊!
Good morning Cody and Glenda, I bought all the colors of granny square yarn. I love ❤️ them all. The key to the yarn for me was the crochet hook. Now yarnspirations came out with the flower yarn by red heart. I ordered two and can't wait to get it. So I say try different size hooks. Have a beautiful day 🌞 you two.
Cody , you're so funny. 😊 Thank you for doing a video on this yarn . I have been curious about it since it first came out . Now Red Heart has some nice color combinations . I'm going to try this yarn . I was thinking about creating a tote or purse with the African flower . I really enjoy the videos you both create . You two are fun together . ❤ A Hemi will help you elude the trucks on the interstate . Part of the Mopar family I hear. 😊
I have tried making the squares several times. Very frustrating for me. I used several different hooks and adjusting my tension but couldn’t get them to come out correctly. I decided I wasn’t going to waste my time, so I made a double crochet blanket and am working on a C2c blanket now. I really like the colors though. Thank you, Cody for taking the time to test this yarn. 💝🧶
That blanket is to Die for!!! ❤ Sunny and 80+° here in West Atlanta and I'm watching the video today to see about these red heart yarns. I have not been a fan due to the texture so I hope this video is informative.😊
Cody thanks for taking the time to try out this yarn ,it is something I would never use, the color combos are also weird . I don’t even remember seeing it at my wal mart! I agree with Glenda about the longer strip I don’t like that all the cream is on one side and the colors on the other. Could you explain what color pooling is.
Congratulations on being so close to 200 members. I watch you on a regular basis and Am so impressed with Cody and the care he takes of his grandmother. I enjoy watching for the samples you make to see what yarns look like worked up. I don't think I would buy the granny square yarn to do squares. I might buy it to make something other than granny squares.
I love the yarn. I use a 6.0 hook to start and after the third color I go down a half size and get tighter. I don’t stress if I have to redo a bit. I don’t stress and just enjoy it.
Thanks for this video ❤I’m okay with needing to change tension or hook size to make this yarn work and finally have my squares down…I hate weaving in ends! I’ve also used for a C2C blanket and African Flower Hexagons ❤️
As something different, I like the long swatch. It has an artsy, abstract look. I bought these yarns at Walmart on clearance and don't intend to try to make the granny square as intended. Too much work! The colors are pretty and I'll make some kids hats or abstract looking blanket. I have "interesting" taste. 😊 Enjoyed seeing all the work Cody put into these swatches.
I love the Red heart yarn always have that's always what I buy I don't trust none of the other yarn I am 68 years old and I always bought red heart your square turned out beautiful
The granny square yarn works up great in a C2C design. Also, the first word in the name is the outside (or last color) of the block. I assume it’s so you can buy the matching outside color to join them together. (Just some useless info for ya!)😉 Thanks for all you both do for all of us out here, I always learn something from ya’ll!
This yarn has had those complaints since it came out. I thought it was gimmicky, frankly. I don’t make granny squares, but the yarn is nice for other projects. I’m making a blanket with the black/white/cream ones and it looks great!
Thank you so much for this product Review. I have been interested in trying it. However, I am new to crochet. My tension is really tight. I'm mostly blind color blind. I'm thinking this is not the product for me, at least not right now maybe when I'm more experienced, thank you for saving me The money? Also, thank you for the info about the shipping containers. Oh no i guess we all need to order our yarn now.
Thank you so much for taking all of the trouble to do those, I loved all the samples especially the purple one. Wish that somehow it really worked easier. Thank you for the happy video we’re roasting in the heat here in California today. You always cheer me up. ❤️❤️❤️

Thanks, Cody, for sharing your talents. You are definitely fun to watch 😊
I turned my granny square yarn into knit hats and they striped beautifully. I will be buying more to make more hats.
I did that too.
I love the Clover 🍀 hooks too Cody...👍

I got it to work easily if I start with a 6.0 hook and after the first two rounds I switch to a smaller hook. Works fine.

For sure My Happy Place is with you 2, I love watching your channel. Hugs out to both of you
I made a blanket with the AAran Lilypad color, used 2 balls cost me 12dollars a ball(Canada). I actually liked it also used 5.5 and 6 mm hooks.
I have a lot of that yarn. You need to change your hooks - i use 4, 4.5 and 5 and you'll know what to do after making a couple. 😊
Oh, the last round has to be tight enough and have color left over to weave in the end - that is prob why the beginning color has a little more than needed.
After looking at several UA-cam reviews, I decided to buy the granny square yarn for other projects. The 1st one was a locker rug for my daughter & the 2nd one was a stuffed monster. I loved how they turned out. I would definitely get it again to make more monsters.
Love 2atching you and Cody! You always brighten my day!
Love y'alls videos
Stay inspired and Have a Blessed Day ❤
I find that I have extra yarn every round, but I like the yarn anyway.
I am excited about the 22 new color ways of the NEW “Flower Power” all in one square yarn.
I want to try your anniversary cake Afghan in this yarn.
I like the warm wheat granny square.❤
Yes!! Please make some granny square projects. They seem to have become popular again and I’m seeing more videos with them in blankets, clothing, purses and hats.
I love granny squares.
Thank you for showing the granny square
Yea I was just wondering about you two! So glad to see you both!
❤
Thanks for the samples, Cody! Love the Lily Pad colorway. Hi Glenda - love seeing you too ❤
Hi nice to see you Cody face was priceless to see I’m making Cody’s blanket but different color and yarn I like the look of the first granny square I thank it makes it more pretty when it runs together I hope you know what I meant
I have made two of your dish cloth patterns, loved them
Love, love, love you two! Thanks for all your hard work.
We really appreciate you watching 😘
Your blanket is beautiful. The granny square yarn would take all of the fun out of crocheting. I want to relax. ☮️🌎🌲
The positive…I actually had success with this yarn. I like it. I used the no seam granny square pattern from BOD and it worked fine with 5.5mm hook. I like the look of multicolored grannies, but don’t like all the changing colors 😣 once I got the hang of it, I just blew thru the squares. 🤷🏻♀️
I’m a very tight crocheter and this yarn helped me manage my tension better. 😊
The negative I found was bleed over into the white yarn. It turned dingy from the dye from the darker colors. I used the white amethyst.
It’s on sale at JoAnn for 6.64 right now.
That is my favorite color, Cody! The Lillypad colors! Beautiful!
I bought a bunch of the Red Heart Granny Square and made a couple of blankets to donate. I had no intention of using it for the granny squares the yarn was made for. I picked a pattern and let the colors fall where they may. It turned out pretty darn good, if I do say so myself!!!!
Pictures please? 🥰
I love the yarn and I don’t even care if it turns out right. It also fun to use for other patterns other than granny squares, it makes a cool effect
The colors are beautiful. It is encouraging me to make a project with granny squares.
After watching the video, I’ll keep doing them the way I always have! Thank you for your review, definitely made my mind up!
Oh, thank you for that information I wondered where my last 3 orders from Lion Brand were and have more in my cart.
Thanks for showing these. I’ve wondered how it would work!
I like how bag o day did her blanket she made strips and sewed them together
Cody , you're so funny. 😊 Thank you for doing a video on this yarn . I have been curious about it since it first came out . Now Red Heart has some nice color combinations . I'm going to try this yarn . I was thinking about creating a tote or purse with the African flower .
I really enjoy the videos you both create . You two are fun together . ❤
A Hemi will help you elude the trucks on the interstate .
HI GLENDA & CODY, THE GRANNY SQUARES ARE VERY PRETTY. THANK YOU FOR SHARING ❤
Thank you for watching! 😘
I love the yarn. I use a 6.0 hook to start and after the third color I go down a half size and get tighter. I don’t stress if I have to redo a bit. I don’t stress and just enjoy it.
Good morning thank you for your time...love to watch you....❤
Love your channel! Beautiful & helpful crochet projects😊 Keep up the great work!
I never miss any of your videos
Her son is so sweet helping mom. And he's super into it
I love Red Heart. After it's washed-up it's fine I've never used the granny square yarn
Thanks for doing this video on these granny square yarn. I’m dying to use these. I love love granny squares. ❤😊
I love the Red heart yarn always have that's always what I buy I don't trust none of the other yarn I am 68 years old and I always bought red heart your square turned out beautiful
I have never tried granny square before its nice to know how you have done it yours turned out nice. Its nice either way granny square or not
The granny square yarn works up great in a C2C design. Also, the first word in the name is the outside (or last color) of the block. I assume it’s so you can buy the matching outside color to join them together. (Just some useless info for ya!)😉 Thanks for all you both do for all of us out here, I always learn something from ya’ll!
Shew! Glad I'm overstocked. I had a gut feeling to get as much as I could.
Beautiful yarn! Congrats on the blanket kit!❤
I'm so glad y'all reviewed this yarn. It's so pretty and I was thinking about buying it
This yarn has had those complaints since it came out.
Thanks for the samples. I have several colors of this yarn, but I haven't made anything yet
Rainy days are the best ❤️❤️❤️
I love your channel. You two always have something valuable to say.
I love how pretty the blanket is y'all did a good job
Enjoying your video today.i love the yarn so many beautiful colors.❤😊
I live in Michigan!! I am going to look them up
