    Finally someone who is truthful. I've seen too many fails with this yarn to try it. I want to enjoy crochet, not be stressed out while crocheting. I could spend my money on better things. I could see trying to make it work if the yarn was free. But why would you pay to be stressed out?

    I think its a genius idea tbh, I figured out to do the last cluster of each row either more loose or tighter helps and started being able to gauge how much yarn is required for what tension pretty quick

    After watching you, Tony, and another UA-camr (I forget who 😑), I am even less interested in trying this yarn. I have a difficult time with gauge on a good day, I cannot image what using it would do to my stress level, lol! Thank you for your honest review!

    The problem I see with this yarn…..every granny square blanket/project is going to be the same. Same color variations. I like to be unique in what I make and well this is just a gimmick for me. I would rather weave in ends as I go and be the master of what colors my project is. 😊 Evie you are the bomb for wearing your momma’s creations you look amazing ❤

    Your Red Heeler caught my eye, when your vid popped! She's a beauty, and looks so sweet. ACDs are the best!! We have one red, and another that's 1/2 bird dog. Your squares are a lot more uniform than I thought, having to change tension so much. Great your changes worked out! Definitely looks stressful and more than its worth. I like the magic circle, too. 💗

    I fiddled with this yarn yesterday and found that the only way to be on par with the color change on the one skein was to crochet the granny square like I usually do, but then on some of the colors I had to change my hooks from a 5.5 to a 6. I definitely agree about the anxiety with running out or having more of a color. Crocheting is supposed to be relaxing! Lol! Also I agree with some of the other comments that the projects are going to be the same, as far as color scheme, who wants that?! I guess it just boils down to personal preference. Thanks for sharing!

      I will be trying it. I'm some sort of undiagnosed neurodivergent and while I love to crochet, I have trouble focusing on things like color changes and weaving ends. All my granny squares are made with variegated yarn because of that. I'd rather learn to gauge and frog a bit and fiddle with tension than having to buy all the extra colors and manage it all

    I feel like this yarn is a cool idea, but I don’t think I’d enjoy using it in real life. I’m more of a mindless crocheter, and like to crochet while I watch or listen to things, and having to stress that much about tension and whether or not I’m gonna have enough yarn sounds exhausting 😅

    I like this yarn but it took hours to finish 1 square but it usually takes me hours to complete one, it's just it took longer because I had to redo rows or parts of rows and change tension with hook sizes to get it to be perfect like it's 5.5 mm hook size yarn and I used 5.5 mm, 6 mm, 8 mm, and 9 mm hook all in one square to make the rows land perfectly every time

  • @TheAGcollector101
    @TheAGcollector101 9 місяців тому +1

    I've started watching tons of videos on this yarn because UA-cam knows it's a hot topic right now-lol. And as someone who just finished a monochromatic granny square project (that resulted in abandoning a larger granny square project for reasons) I can begin to think of purposes for this yarn that are not just "granny square with no color changes".
    I think this yarn would be a great tool to teach about gauge. I'm what I would consider to be an intermediate crocheter but to be quite honest, I never swatch anything and I don't really pay attention to or calculate gauge because I don't do many wearables or projects where I want a super specific size.
    Beginners might have an easier time understanding the importance of calculating gauge with this yarn, where the different colors make it clear that when the gauge isn't correct, things don't line up right.
    The challenge this yarn provides could be a valuable teaching/learning tool, I do kind of like the idea of learning to control my tension via this yarn.
    I'd also love to see it used for something other than granny squares, I think I heard someone somewhere mention colorwork with the yarn would be cool to see. I bet you many people will buy this yarn just for like, kid's crafts or something. I bet it would make interesting pom poms and things too.

    I purchased quite a few skeins of this new yarn. I also am a magic ring girl. To make thus yarn fun for me, I use an H/8 5mm hook, I also created a work-around for the extra length of yarn for each color. Therefore, I am still having fun making granny squares. As one of my favorite designers says: Do what works best for you. This is what I have done. I just wish I could have gotten a few skeins of the Lily Pad colorway. Joann’s did not have it and Yarnspirations was sold out of it. So, honestly, I LOVE IT!!!!! On a side note: check out Moogly’s review about this yarn, she has some interesting points, also.

    The fun of a granny square is picking the colors and making it your own. Also, gauge is not a factor as long as your squares match. It seems to me the yarn takes something fun and makes it tiresome. I can weave in as I go, so changing colors is not that big of a deal for me. I'd rather have the freedom of choice.

    Hi. I also bought two skeins of the same colorway Red Heart Granny All in One Square yarn in order to make the same dog sweater for my daughter’s dog, my “puppy grandchild”. He is larger than your sweet Edie. The Yarnspirations pattern only went to Large. What size did you make Edie’s cute sweater? Any advice on how I can make Disco’s in an extra large? I agree the yarn can be fiddly. I had to go up to a 6.5 which works food for me, with some tweaking. Thank you for your video and any advice you can give me, dog sweater wise!

    I made the dog sweater in citrus twist, but Moggie is only 10 lbs so I only needed 4 squares. I saw A LOT of color bleed through, especially on the white outer round. I bought 6 skeins because I was going to make the dog and I matching sweaters, but Im taking the others back and just going to make traditional granny squares with corresponding colors for myself.

    I bought this yarn ONLY for the colors. My plan is to use it in scrappy projects, to try and pool it or just for ransom pieces. I absolutely dislike granny stitch, so I will never make the granny squares, anyway. I thus won't have to worry about gauge!

    Red Heart Granny Squares yarn trick: first, ditch the instructions. Crochet your granny square the way you normally do, but with only 2 SC at corners and eliminate all SC between clusters. You'll always have leftover of each color. Then just sl st across until you use up rest of the color and get to a good place to start next color. Nobody can tell and this method works like a charm! Love this yarn, eliminates all this ends to weave in!

    I’ve been crocheting for years and I’m having the worst time hitting gauge. I can get the first round but the I have too much left (about 2dc worth) from then on. I’ve tried different size hooks, working on my tension, even different square variations. It’s so frustrating. As much as I hate weaving in ends, I think I’ll just stick to multiple yarns bc this is getting too stressful lol

  • @13ellamy
    @13ellamy 9 місяців тому +1

    this yarn is DEFINITELY fiddly. for me, worrying about my ends coming undone is so stressful that frogging and redoing to fix my tension is much more relaxing, but i’d imagine that for most people they’d rather just weave the ends in!

  • @candynkeith

    I’ve watched a lot of reviews on this. And the first thing I noticed was no one wanted to use the pattern that was provided with it. However, that pattern was worked up with Mikey from the crochet crowd and Hass to be followed. I went and watched Mikey, and even he had trouble with keeping the Yarn ending where it was supposed to. I know that some people were able to hit it right on but others didn’t even come close. I seen people change their hook size like from smaller to way larger but a lot of people wanted to do it their way and unfortunately I don’t think that ishow it works. Would I buy this yarn? Probably not because I don’t want all that headache. You did a good job and I congratulate you on hitting the color ends so good

  • @squitten.
    @squitten. 9 місяців тому +2

    I 100% agree that it’s just too much effort.
    If you’re the kind of person that weaving in ends makes you want to kys then by all means, give this yarn a try. But for me, the stress of trying to hit gauge would be too much. Every time I had yarn leftover for a color or the next color started to bleed into the current round, I would have to start completely over and, frankly, I find that to be a massive waste of time.
    This yarn is also clearly not for beginners because gauge is so important, but I feel like beginners who are intimidated by color changing and granny squares are going to be heavily drawn to it by its purported ease and convenience.
    TLDR, it’s a no from me dog

    I've only made my first square. And I had a lot of trouble just like you. And I have a near perfect tension on a double crochet stitch. So I was disappointed in that luckily I'm only making 14 squares from my project.
    It is unlikely, though, that I will purchase this again for making granny squares. If the colors are pretty, I might do it for some other type of project. Evie was such a cutie in her sweater. I wish my dog would wear them, but he prefers to run around As nature intended.

    My first thought on seeing yarn a few weeks ago was that it was a dumb idea. I choose my colors for a reason and don't want the same color pallet as everyone else. My gauging would be a disaster, I always have to size down my hook. Weaving ends is part of the process, either learn to crochet over your tails or get a good needle.

  • @haileybeebee97
    @haileybeebee97 9 місяців тому

    I tried out the green one that has black in it and oh my gosh. The recommended hook size? I had to go up to a 6.5 for it to work at all, because the recommended 5.5 was way too small. Maintaining gauge? Throw that out the window because I had to crochet looser with the light colors and then super tight with the last two colors which were dark blue and black. I love the resulting granny square, but the pattern they give for making the squares is wonky and the yarn itself requires a LOT of fiddling with and redoing rounds to either use up all of the color before ending to round or to have enough color to finish the round.
    Overall: the idea is great, but the execution just needs a lot of work.

      So true, plus it’s so fun to make your own color combinations!

    Gimmick. I don’t recommend it. Stick to traditional way of making granny squares in my opinion. I will complete my granny square blanket with this yarn but will NEVER buy it again.

    It's like pooling yarn! I have pooled like 2 projects and it's definitely annoying

      Yeah I definitely wonder how it would look when it’s not worked in a granny square!

      Kiera’s Dollhouse Sweets Crochet 8 days ago showed how this yarn worked up into a hat and a shawl/scarf looked. It was very interesting but definitely “outside the box” for most traditionalist. I was fascinated by the look of it and may give it a go. Way too fiddly for a granny square for me.

    I tried this yarn. After fooling with it for far too long, I just cut colors and rejoined the next color, crocheting over the ends. Too anxiety producing for me.
    I won't buy it again.

    This yarn is horrible. Don’t get it It is definitely too much work to have to crochet and keep worrying about gauge, tension and changing hooks. I wish I didn’t waist my money on it

    Thanks for the review. If a product for convenience isn’t easy to work with what’s the point? Don’t think it’s for me 🧶
