      If he is a famed pianist (And by famed I mean mainstream like Trifonov, Kissin, etc) his handshape and technique is similar to that of Jan Lisiecki. So that's my guess.

      You know Traum’s a god when you joke about him normally *speedrunning* songs and that he can learn this piece in 3 hours. There must be a word alot greater than Virtuoso, Traum inspires me to become great.

      @@CalamityInAction I'd say difficulty in glissando is of u have small hands and tmyou have to do double gliss. Or the piano/player is not in good condition.. also the speed of the gliss has to be accurate and not too fast or too slow. It must sound smooth. It's hard to do a very soft and smooth gliss, like in ondine

      I like this piece a lot, i think most of people can't understand it. They could get a little crazy listening to it, cause some people feel really down with some songs like the Rachmaminoff Elegie. For me it's beautifull and makes me wanna live more. Different people have different reactions.

    Ravel is truly one of the most genius composers of all time, the fact that he could even imagine a piece to be played with as many notes, runs, and techniques is incredible. It’s hard to get my head around the idea that he most likely thought of this piece in his head and transferred it to piano and paper. Incredible

    Ravels pieces are truly something special, when I first heard one of them I didn't like his style that much but I came to really appreciate it!

    Good to know there’s a piece out there I’ll never be able to play...
    Honestly, I don’t care too much for the melodies in this piece, but it is one of the hardest looking pieces of music I’ve seen in a while and it was unbelievably well performed. Great job.

      RAINCOAT I think it's cuz ravel wasn't a virtuoso, so he tended to write un idiomatic music at times. Compare it to Chopin or Debussy, where their hardest works are hard af but still sit well under the fingers

    I like how it is actually harmonious and pleasant, despite being more dramatic than an average waltz. Sounds as if it was transcribed by Liszt.

    It looks like this has been sped up. The hand movements right after the final note of this piece seem to suggest that.

      (Don't get me wrong, this is nonetheless an amazing performance even if some segments of it would be sped up to some degree. Still I cannot get around the feeling that the hand movements after the final note look unnaturally fast and I wonder what's going on here.)

    Reminds me of current french Movies. It is all fun and games and then suddenly it just explodes into crazy chaos, before eventually unravelling back to a shapely ending. Insane, yet fascinating and musically overflowing. Wow!

    I can’t tell if this piece is major or minor. Ravel is so brilliant in how he changes keys and feeling so quickly in his pieces. At times it feels like a beautiful waltz and at other times it sounds like a nightmare (in a good way)

      It might be possible for a particle to "repeat" actions that aren't his regular state after being taken action excessively, making pressing itself possible. Or it could just be that the note in the lower octave copied itself, or that the wind blew, or that Traum has an invisible third hand, perhaps god really exists.

    The orchestral version is also insanely difficult... but sooo much fun! there is so much rubato that putting this piece together with an ensemble makes it so much trickier but is also so beautiful. this piano performance of the waltz is so amazing. i really love all of these performances. keep providing us your wonderful music.

    dude, who are you? you've got to be a professional who goes on tour. this is truly a world class performance of this that i'd be more than happy hearing in any concert hall. no amateur pianist can produce this many quality recordings this quickly of this wide and difficult of repertoire. this isn't just another piano youtube channel. would love to see some concerto performances if you can somehow manage that.

    This is insane! I was sweating during the whole finale. For those who were not familiar with the piece, I encourage you to listen to the orchestral version. I wanted to ask you if you would consider playing 'Alborada del gracioso' some day, but thought it would be asking too much. And then you post "La Valse" and Liszt piano sonata in the same week.... !!! You're a great pianist, and it is always a pleasure to listen and watch your performances. Please don't hurt yourself by overdoing it :)

    I don’t play piano but I love to listen and this is one of my all-time favorite pieces. I’ve played Louie Lortie’s solo recording countless times! But it seems as though most of the prominent pianists avoid the solo version and play it with 4 hands, e.g, Argerich & Friere. I was lucky enough to see Anderson & Roe perform it in concert a few years ago; it was overwhelming. 🤩 What a treat to look over your virtual shoulder and watch how the solo version is executed. Wow! And thank you!

    one of my favorite pieces of ravel! I love this piece from start to finish especially from minute 8:58 to minute 9:20, those thirds make me chill! and 10:17 to 10:30 those glissandos are pure chaos, very pretty your rubato

    If I didn't see Traum's hands actually do it, I'd have called this piece "unplayable". Much harder than anything by Liszt or Chopin!

    That piece expresses the genius of Ravel. It contrains all elements of what will be music of xx century and espacially jazz (ans some dodecaphonism music). Thanks Traum to have played that crazy and unusual piece.

    Traum is clearly his pseudonym. He seems to be a Korean pianist. I am going to put my guess as Yekwon Sunwoo. If so, surely a video of Hamelin's Tocatta "L'homme arme" would be sweet to see.

      @BiblicalyBuffDude Good chance he is a Korean pianist based in Germany. Lots of Korean pianists go to Music Hochschule such as Weimar and Hannover for piano education!

      @@randommathstudent2875 Sunwoo has studied in Germany, so it lines up, among a couple other things (i.e. Sunwoo has performed La valse, Traum's channel shows up around what might be Sunwoo's end of the 3 year mark of career management provided by winning Gold at the Van Cliburn competition [though Covid may be just as likely], Korean in his Facebook posts, similar skin tone and lack of noticeable blemishes, also wears all black at concerts, etc.). Perhaps, hand vein comparisons are needed next? His FB banner has a clear picture of them. Lol

      Yeah but Traum definitely got a rival in terms of effects since Rousseau‘s effects look absolutely stunning and are godlike compared to Traum‘s but in the end it‘s about the playing, right? And that‘s where Traum is definitely superior

      And of course, really nice job on the piano version! I wish I could play it, but its a little bit outside my reach. Right now I'm practising both parts of the version for 2 piano's, so I can record them and put them over each other, but even that is a challenge that's gonna take me a while.

    This is truly an amazing piece, and ABSOLUTELY my favorite classical piece ever! There are some “scary” parts that I personally find more depressing than scary, in which I absolutely love. And there are also the beautiful parts, like 10:18, which sounds like something that would be in some kind of romance movie. And then there are the insane parts, like 11:26, which makes this piece even more amazing! Bravo Traum, bravo.
