I completely agree with you that this movie was ALL over the place. I personally think Willem Defoe was one of the best aspects of this and I think the comedy he brought was the best. I think that the movie has WAY TOO MANY characters and plots going on, which this felt like it should have kinda been a series with how much they wanted to do
Fair review, shame to hear you weren't the biggest fan. I went to see it for my birthday and I really enjoyed it, I loved the practical effects, the score from Danny Elfman, the performances and the humour, but it wasn't perfect as I felt the subplot with Monica Bellucci's character could've been integrated into the plot better. Stay tuned as I'll have my full thoughts up eventually!
My audience was constantly laughing during it. Good review as always. I like the new setup/film style, I feel like youre coming off more natural/charismatic
yea the nostalgia factor is the strongest selling point of this film. After a few days the effect wears off and you kind of forget everything but the Beetlejuice parts.
I didn't enjoy this movie either. I agree the pacing was awful. For me, the biggest problem was all the separate stories didn't mesh well with each other. They felt rushed and there just to have another actor. Monia Bellucci was wasted. What a terrible storyline that added nothing to the main story. I liked that the studio allowed Burton to keep his weird style though. It was still visually awesome. As always, I enjoyed hearing your thoughts.
Yeah, I thought this film was pretty awful. I was just bored during the entire runtime. The only somewhat bright spot was Keaton. Monica Bellucci and Willem Dafoe felt like they were in a different film altogether. I thought Ortega was flat and dull the entire movie. This sequel just felt very soulless and hollow, and I love the original.
Yeah I can’t say I’d watch this one again but, will get another with the money it’s making. Can only hope it’s less messy next time around. And yeah Ortega didn’t do much for me here either.
I can respect your opinion about the movie and it valid. The villain barely did anything in the movie just like the victim from Ghostbuster Frozen Empire. She was easily killed off and as for Wolf Jackson (Wilem Dafoe character), he had a pointless role and just wanted to relive his glory days as an action star. Love your movie review as always.
I liked it personally: appropriately insane and messed up, some nice character stuff between Winona and Jenna, Justin Theroux’s amusing as an utter tool, it’s funny how they work around not having Jefferey Jones (🤮) in it, and Keaton was clearly having fun playing the character again. That said, it is somewhat weighed down by not having William Defeo in it enough and the ultimately rather unnecessary Monica Bellucci character. I’d give it a high B.
Jenna Ortega was simply playing a variation of Wednesday given that the sequels writers are showrunners of Burton's Wednesday Netflix series, but I think any young actress can pull the role off with ease.
There's definitely too many subplots, but I still found this movie to be pretty entertaining and I liked Jenna's performance quite a bit. I'd give this movie the same rating as the original - 3/5, but I do think that the original is better because I prefer a more focused story.
Great review my friend, Legacy sequels are on the rise again especially after Top Gun: Maverick. I still love the original - was this really necessary? What’s your thoughts on the ending are we getting Hotel Beetlejuice? lol.
There are definitely flaws in this movie but I loved being in this world again and especially the practical effects. I also have to say that Burton’s directing is better with more interesting shots in this new one than the original one. I think the soundtrack, practical effects, silliness, randomness, Michael Keaton and Catherine O’Hara won me over for this film so despite the flaws and some convolutions, I loved it 😄
@@RavensOsFan89 I can definitely understand why you and others wouldn’t like it. I have a very random style of humor so the randomness (even the randomness of the three main characters that had shorter stories than they probably should have) in the movie was my cup of tea 😊
I personally felt that it was a sequel which came far too late. The modern setting doesn’t feel the same. There was just a unique kind of magic with the first film, and the sequel doesn’t capture that feeling. It’s not a bad movie, but it doesn’t have that same weird uniqueness. It almost feels like a super fan of the first movie made this one. Beetlejuice didn’t feel like the bad guy in this one, which he should have been, nor was he as funny as he was in the original.
I really enjoyed the land of dead, beetlejuice and BOB. Everything else was...there and ok. If be interested in a 3rd but certainly not clammering for it.
Awesome review man I totally understand where your coming from as Beetlejuice Beetlejuice isn't as strong as the original but I still had fun with it. Wynoda Ryder and Jenna Oretga steal the show as Lydia and Astrid, and Michael Keaton and Monica Belluci brought a lot to the table too. I do think the film had too many subplots though and some of the supporting characters were badly written!
I enjoyed the film because Michael Keaton was great. Unfortunately the movie is a mess and would have benefited from focusing on Astrid’s story with Lydia and Beetlejuice going into the afterlife to rescue her.
I saw it yesterday. Not watched the original in full, as it just never appealed. Without any sense of nostalgia, I think this is hugely disappointing. Agree, the stories are poorly told. Some of the Beetlejuice parts are mildly amusing in a pantomime theatre comedian manner, but much of it felt kinda awkward in my fairly full auditorium yesterday. It was nice to see Winona Ryder back on a big screen, but this is something I don't think I will ever revisit.
I feel like the movie was censored so much. I think Tim Burton wanted to push the envelope and had some juicy material , but it wasn't allowed. Just my opinion
I agree with a lot of what you said. Totally depends on whether you have nostalgia for the original. Personally I enjoyed it, most of the comedy hit for me, but it was definitely a jumbled film. You have Monica Belucci and don't use her effectively. This is just a full on, unapologetic Tim Burton fun fest and if you're not into that, it won't hit.
Fair review. I went with a pretty big group to see this and we all enjoyed it. Definitely agree with the flaws so not a perfect movie for me, but a fun enough sequel.
Great review man this is one of the more negative reviews I have seen but have been hearing the same thing when it comes to the flaws I do want to check it out as am curious since I am fan of the first one but def won’t have enormous expectations

OUCH! I guess the idea of a sequel should have stayed in 1988 with the original movie lol
@@MarcusTygo It’s making money so the studio is laughing their way to the bank.
They should have made the weird Beetlejuice goes Hawaiian sequel back in the 90’.
