- British and French soldiers have made history by parading together for historic Changing of the Guard ceremonies on both sides of the Channel to celebrate the 120th anniversary of the Entente Cordiale.
In Paris, British soldiers took part in a guard ceremony at the Elysée Palace, while their French counterparts became the first non-Commonwealth troops to take part in the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace.
The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh inspected UK and French troops on the forecourt of the palace during the event to highlight the close ties between the two nations.

Our men, and their men and women, to judge from those on parade.

Friendly greetings from a French cousin who sees England when the sun is out. Happy to have you as neighbors and to share with you more than a thousand years of history. Longue vie à l'Angleterre
Amazing, we appreciate all our neighbours and I love the gesture from both nations. I can only speak as on Englishman, but I appreciate and applaud the French people and their amazing culture and contributions to the modern world. Hip hip, hooray.
Merci. We return the compliment. A happy day when our countries join to show the strength of their bonds. Our geographical closeness, our shared history (however sometimes bumpy) and cultural bonds make us cousins in a way. We wish the British people the best.
You by no means represent the english en masse. The french have a snobby little nose that are only good for war time and keeping the peace. Other than that they have a stinking attitude. Definitely not like the english

Have to say that the Brits and French have a long and interesting history. Nearly a thousand years fighting!

A Thousand years of rivalry and fighting each other for WorldDomination. Both Former and Greatest Colonial Empire.
The Hundred Years War, the Seven Years War 1756-1763 and the Napoleonic War 1804-1815
We finally made peace with each other by joining forces against the Russians in the Crimean War 1853-1856
Queen Victoria was delighted about it so she could visit France as vacation. She was the first member of the Royal Family to do so, a state visit

@christophermichaelclarence6003 glad you specified as a state visit. Many other English monarchs had been there with other business beforehand...

As an American with French ancestry, it's wonderful to see the bonds that have been formed between England and France over the last 100 years. Thankful for both our partners in Europe and the bonds we have with them as well. I was richly blessed on two occasions while in France. Once in Paris on the fourth of July as I observed a French band form near the L'Arc de Triomphe and began playing the USA national anthem as they marched to the Arch under the US flag, and then another time in Fontainebleau as an older French man approached my wife and I and thanked us for our nations support during the war. Our parents were born after the war and we obviously weren't there, but his thanks was moving.
I was their to witness the changing of the guard what a tremendous thing to see 😊
Amazing Two Brillant countries, two brillant and brave people celebrate their friendship. French soldiers are dead in Lille to stop and delay german troops in order to english soldiers to go back home safe. Few times after, english pilots stopped definately german's ambition! What a DREAM TEAM!
Let's go on.Vive l'entente cordiale
I’m not sure I could be more proud to see this moment :)

Just brilliant!
The good old red coats .
Lovely to see.
Those expressing shock and horror at this are evidently unaware that we have had a French Brigadier-General commanding the 1st (UK) Division of the British Army before now, most recently in 2022.
Love seeing history being made, even if it is with the old enemy. 😂
Yo the French uniforms tho. Looks like they’re ready to conquer Europe again. Now they just need a Napoleon…

They stole that Hat from us
This is actually pretty cool! Greetings from Canada!
That is a grand and generous gesture from both nations.
Greetings from an American veteran to our allies. My respects.
British Army sense of humor going strong - send the tallest guard officer they could find to head the French detail. Excellent.
That is sooooo cool!
Amazing!
The medieval times are far from over. The Crimean war and The Great Wars United these two great nations. Impressive military display.
The Duke of Wellington is spinning in his boot in his grave.

We are going to need eachother in the coming years, we have more in common than not. We also have several shared enemies that we will need to lean on eachother to defeat and send packing.

We are much more the same than we are different, and important fact with all the conflict brewing in the world.
Should be wearing the old guard uniform but modern ! This is indeed some history !
The old guard were disbanded after the end of the first republic.
@@thetruthhurts7675 it was after the fall of the first french empire (in 1815) that came after the first republic. The old guard was one of the three guard ( the young, the middle, the old) that composed the imperial guard under Napoleon 1er
@@SeteaurisCXCI Yes I know. So what are you saying here? The First republic was declared the day after the French Monarchy was abollished thus on the 21st of September 1792.
Nice 👍🇬🇧
Greetings from the "other" European power - I hope that one day we might join this honorable exchange.
And seriously, why do we not make this sort of guard exchange a more permanent fixture in our respective military traditions?
Good to see an actually funded and competent military on our streets for once.
0:09 is this part of the video sped up? They seem to be stepping a bit too quick?
I love seeing this. Europe should be one!
Doesn’t show the French conducting the guard. It just shows the ceremony part. They marched in and then out without changing of the guard guarding the palace.
You know what they say: keep your friends close ...
❤❤❤
Tomorrow we are gonna hear how French Soldiers took over the palace.
Good to see these two countries despite many years of conflict in the past they still have each other.
Remember, the French imperial Guards considered to be the best during 18th century, but later on defeated by the Duke of Wellington with his Red Coat army together withe the Great Prussian Army in the Battle of Waterloo.
Nevertheless British and French now considered brothers.
Nice 😊 🇬🇧🇨🇵
Someday, we will have our king back.
Maybe in 2039, America, France, the U.K., and possibly even Russia and China, can swap guards with each other in some way to commemorate WW2. If there isn't some sort of war or other political situation going on.
Weird to think this would have been normal if the Franco British Union had happened...

ARGINCORP
Its funny how the Canadian bear hats is actually frenches 😅 lol
Well not really it’s only that style that was adopted after Waterloo bear skin hats have been used by armies such as Britain way before the imperial guard look at the British Grenadiers
We've come a long way from Truss, being friends with France is modern history and our collective future!
Man, what a turn around compared to their past.
Arthur Wellesley the Duke of Wellington must be rolling in his grave =(
I doubt it. Pettry sure, he wouldn’t mind that. It’s most likely The French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte would be Rolling in his grave. He despise the British
I think not, I bet he was smart enought to know that the foes of today might be the allies of tomorrow :) and I like that idea.
I just read a book about Waterloo and immediately thought of the changes two centuries have made. Prussians from friends to enemies and back to friends. French from enemies to friends.
@@billbrockman779 You mean the Battle Waterloo 1815. The Redcoats led by Duke of Wellington won that it. The British Form Square formation was really efficient against the French Cavalry.

The French would be far more impressive, uniformed as Napoleon had made them.
Ironically, the British Guards wearing of the Bearskin was pinched from the French imperial Guards after waterloo, as a sort of war trophy 🙂

@@nottinghillad Oh! Good to know.
This gave me a warm feeling and I hope it marks the start of closer relations with our neighbours who are so close to us literally and in some ways culturally as well. Lets cooperate more and lets cleanse our nations of those that would want to stop that. We once rules part of France (ie Calais) and they definitely did likewise .
