So personal story i once fought on one of them yes on one of those pick up trucks for a warlord in africa (not gonna say cuz he’s still alive). That mf thing was fast as hell when nothings on it and the dessert kinda slowed it but not by a lot. I remembered losing a truck on one day and being replaced the next.
Wouldn't that be the Opel Blitz
Suiting how a nation named "Chad" used convertible Toyota trucks against a more militarily advanced/modern nation, and still won.

Chadians are chads beacause they are from Chad.
the french won it for them
With French air support and weapons yes
@@johnf.kennedy9346 It's undeniable that French air dominance was essential to the Chadians success in the early part of the war. I just wanted to make a joke about how a bunch of guys on converted Toyota's were able to push back the Libyans from the Aouzou strip.

The biggest flex/marketing scheme ever devised. Japanese civilian vehicles quite literally driving circles around Soviet armor I can only imagine that has news of this came out, and Chad won more victories, that Toyata dealerships the world over were swamped with buyers.
A capitalist consumer product beat a Commie weapon of war if that doesn’t tell you how inept Communism is I don’t know what will.
Agreed and Top Gear took the Toyota Hilux even higher.
libya occupied the entire north of chad so "more victories" is debatable

With the way conflicts are progressing, Chadians can afford to wait until Libya stop existing then pull up to mop up survivors. This time they can afford some used Nissan Safari sold by Dubai car dealers.

The best Toyotathon commercial in history
I'll give it to Toyota they definitely had some good commercials especially the one with the sea monster, it try to destroy the Toyota truck and kill everybody inside but couldn't because that's just how good and tough Toyota makes their trucks, but my favorite vehicle commercial still has to be Chevrolet, the world had ended, and the apocalypse had begun, but these few friends survived only because they had a Chevrolet trucks, they all met up in the middle of town glad to see one another, but also confused because they didn't see John, one of the friends had to break the bad news to the rest, John didn't make it, he had a Ford truck, lmao 🤣 Ford sued Chevrolet the next morning, apparently they didn't like the commercial.

Ukraine sucks globalist ballsacks
@@cykablyat123br9only bias can beat bias
war fought on trucks is somehow the least crazy thing I've seen in ages
Especially in games such as Command and Conquer Generals
Imo its a modern day kind of calvary, Ukraine is using Humvee’s to similar effect. Horses are useless compared to the eternal and unthinking V6. And horse’s probably wouldn’t like a recoilless rifle strapped to them.
That machine gun on top of the tank is a 12.7mm with a traverse fast enough to deal with fast moving helicopters. The fact that they couldnt deal with unarmored trucks shows how poorly trained and prepared the libyans were.
Yeah, although even if they were properly trained, how many trucks would they shoot before they became overwhelmed by the numbers. They most likely just underestimated the Chadians
@@dark_sammie they for sure underestimated the chadians. But they also panicked and lost any and all order and cohesion. They remain calm and in formation and return fire in an organized manner and the results are very different.
If they're low-flying helicopters, yes.. bear in mind too, this doesn't work so well when moving. This animation depicts one thing, but I sincerely doubt there was very much accurate fire when travelling at speed; obviously, those guns are not stabilized, and I highly doubt that traversing the desert as they were, it was nice and flat terrain. I am thinking either they stopped or slowed to actually fire, or, they drove ridiculously close to let loose RPGs and heavy MG fire. (Meaning like.. 50-100 feet).

Dictators choose generals based on their loyalty to them rather than military competence
Thus their troops are rarely combat ready
That said truck is attached with Anti-Tank/Anti-Aircraft/Bunker Bustar/Whatever they can attach and can outmanuver tank.
fighters with Toyota pickups are the modern nomadic horse archers of the modern era.
You know, in some ways the Chadian tactics were the exact same that nomad horse archers have been using for centuries. Extreme mobility is always a massive advantage.
Chad really said "Screw it, we ball"
And boy did they ball.
Toyota Yes but equipped with MILAN guided ATM , the french knew what they were doing with the technicals
Most are not equipped with Milan, but Dshk, RPG and Recoilles anti tank rifle, it is also 100% Chadian tactics that make them able to utilize the trucks to it's full capacity.
Even after the French Withdraw their support, that's where the Chadian get their largest victory in the war
Do you know why France was even involved?
@@floor_tilemoney
@@unknownbeing7750 I see
@@floor_tile Most of our electricity is made by nuclear power, and a lot of our uranium came from Chad. Stability in the region meant stability in our country.
Also, Chad is one of our former colony, and at the time it was still considered a bit like our duty to pacify the region we left
Now things have changed a bit, with the instability in Chad we buy our Uranium elsewhere. And Russian influence and propaganda is pushing the French away from the former colonies. Now, no French soldiers are officially deployed on African soil (except for sea base), the Wagner militia is replacing us
When I was younger, I was a bit confused why the GLA had pickup trucks in command and conquer generals... now I understand.

I only had a passing knowledge of this conflict. Fantastic video, thanks, Griff!
Just a few corrections on the Toyota's themselves:
1. Hilux is pronounced high-lux not he-lux as it comes from the Japanese pronunciation (Hairakkusu).
2. The Hilux shown at 6:04 is way to modern for 1986/1987. The one shown looks to be a sixth generation Hilux (1997-2005), as its body is smooth. The Chadians would have been using fourth generation Hilux's and earlier.
3. The Hilux's shown at 7:33 look to be more correct.
Hilux is short for High Luxury.
