Don't worry about Brexit. We're still here. Weird as ever. Don't forget 1940 when we left some of our soldiers in France, so that we could evacuate 120,000 French from Dunkirk alone. Your Government demanded their return (only 7,000 agreed to stay in England and form a Free French Army under de Gaulle). We duly returned them - many of whom went into captivity. You were let down by your politicians. Some things don't change do they?

Furthermore there might be a small confusion with our FRENCH expression ''monter la garde = litterally ''mounting the guard'' 🙄. Scots Guards hosting the French at home, while understandably they sent the finest, the best, the Coldstream Guards to Paris. Inexcusably, Reuters in their UA-cam video heading stated they were Grenadiers; then banned comments. Come to think of it, where were the Genadiers? Of course, I deny any bias. 😊

One of the earliest allusions to martial music appeared in a dance treatise by Thoinot Arbeau (1588). In 17th-century France, the military band of Louis XIV played marches, and France literally set the pace for march music all over Europe well into the 19th century.
