  • Since 1931, the Epiphone Masterbilt Collection has been the House of Stathopoulo's premier line of acoustic guitars recognized around the world for beautiful sound and classic design. Today, the Epiphone Masterbilt Collection features the DR-500MCE, EF-500RCCE, and the stunning new AJ-45ME, recently voted into the 2015 Hall of Fame by Guitar Player magazine. Today's Masterbilts are made just like the originals with all-solid tonewoods and construction methods like dovetail neck joints, bone nut and saddle, and hand-scalloped bracing--the same methods perfected by the first generation Epiphone luthiers. Plus, today's Masterbilt guitars also feature Grover® Sta-Tite™ 18:1 ratio machine heads for superior tuning and are set up and tuned by the state-of-the-art PLEK process for perfect intonation and ready-to-play set up.

What mean the index CH HDWE on Epiphone guitars?

Same solid tone woods as a J-45, same body mold, same short scale length, that leaves the bracing pattern and nut width. Gibson support confirmed bracing pattern on the AJ45ME is "very similar to the J-45 Standard" and "based on the J-45 standard" the scalloping is a bit different I suspect to account for the Satin finish on the AJ45ME vs. Nitro finish on the Gibson J-45 Standard. Nut width and neck radius are different so it will feel nothing like a J-45. I think the way a guitar feels in the hand of a player impacts how it's played.... Maybe one of these days Gibson will allow Epiphone to make a proper copy. Until then this is as close as it gets a great guitar in it's own right.

I just bought an AJ45ME in late July and its wonderful. When I registered the warranty I was promised a new gigbag if I filled out a form and mailed it with the receipt to the address on the form. I did. I've heard nothing. I responded to the email address on the offer and left messages on the website. Nothing. Epiphone folks, what's up?

I've had my DR400 a month now. Altho I'm not in love with the 1 & 22/100ths" width neck yet.Used to play a Martin D35 with a 1 & 3/4ths " neck. Gives me a challenge. Great buy for less than $500.00. I owned an Epiphone in 1964. The Chinese made Epi can't touch it tho. 4th
of Jul I spent with inlaws. BIL Jerry said he had a guitar he wanted to show me. It was a 1972 Vintage Sunburst Gibson J45. I offered
him $1,000.00 on the spot. He turned it down!!! He paid $450.00 for it in 1971. Can we spell inflation?

All you older pickers correct me if I err. Back n tha day I read Epiphone got it's name from jazz guitarist George Epps (get it? Epps = Epiphone?)
A seldom used by bluegrass genre players (beside Earl Scruggs) is the Gibson J45; Earl traded his gold Granada banjo to Don Reno for Don's
J45 and BR150 banjo and played the J45 and RB150 til he no longer was able to play!!! Never understood why no luv for the J45 by Bg pickers?

I am sorry. I was very curious when looking at a new acoustic so I went to a local epiphone dealer I understand that I would probably have to set it up. But I wouldn't even consider spending the time or money. They were stiff and not as precision as claimed I tried them all. I think maybe for someone on a budget learning etc Not bad. But if you love to play and love a throaty sustain and a responsive neck in a guitar, I would look at a lot of others out there at the below $1000.00 range that will accommodate that requirement. Too bad because they do look the part

I'm pretty sure that's just the High E string reflecting off the body.

If Epiphone are to say quality is there master . Can we now say Epiphone is no longer a Gibson ? Surely Ephiphone is a working mans v of a Gibson. SO if we want quality we buy the Gibson? Don't know what's going on

I agree. Higher wages will drive up the cost of goods. Lower wages doesnt always mean lower quality.
I have a made in China soundhole pickup for $10 and a $100 Made in USA one. Both sound exactly the same. The US made one is definitely not 10x better.

+Phill Robinson Its pretty simple, play both A and B. I played every guitar in the room at Guitar center and when I left Id literally forgotten which one I chose as the names I wasnt even looking at, I got home and saw Id bought a masterbuilt

Tony M I'd love to have one too, even though the Martin I have makes me think twice about all of these mid range guitars and me thinking they were the best thing ever before.
The only thing really stopping me from liking these is the fact that the headstocks are so damn ugly. I didn't like the original, but I REALLY dont like these. Wish they would just use the regular Gibson headstocks or make the headstocks the same shape as the originals but a much smaller size...
