      Honestly this might be the best as the year has been littered with great horror from Longlegs to Immaculate to First Omen and so on.

      I didnt think it was a horror movie. It was just out there and even Demi Moore couldn't save it, but great nude scenes from both females.

      Worth a watch. Didn't understand how they were connected. Do they both experience each others lives? or do they just switch places and one of them goes dormant? Seems like they weren't one having the same experience. It was two different people only way it can make sense for how they treated each other. Then why wouldn't the older version just stop, not sure what she was getting out of it if she wasn't living as the young version. And if she was living as the young version why wasn't she more understanding. Makes no sense.

    I saw this last night and went in with zero expectations. Safe to say my mind was blown (no pun intended). Easily my favorite movie of the year.

    My god!!!!! I saw this movie yesterday and it was sooooo good. I had to pick my jaw off the floor when it finished. I was equal parts enthralled and disgusted and honestly it’s the most visceral reaction I’ve had to a film in years! Movies like THIS is why horror fans go to theaters.

    I didn't really understand how the switch worked, how did sue initially knew what was going on and knew the rules? Did they share memories? If so it seemed like Sue didn't remember what Elizabeth was going through as she watched the mess in the apartment after waking up. Couldn't they communicate, like leave a message or something? Was it Elizabeth making the decision to use the stabilizer for more than 7 days after the guy in the phone told her not to? I mean did Sue knew about that conversation? Couldn't she tell Sue not to do that if Sue is a different person with same personality (and memories?) I didn't really get the logic of that splitting..

    • @kyleroberts1276
      @kyleroberts1276 17 годин тому +4

      Because they were one. That was the recurring theme throughout the film. Everything Elisabeth knew, Sue knew. I mean, she did come from Elizabeth's body.

    • @staedlerok

      She knew what was going on but when she was sue she got more selfish

    • @TomJones-wi4nh
      @TomJones-wi4nh 16 годин тому +2

      I didn’t get that either. Elisabeth clearly realized that switching with Sue was causing her permanent physical damage. Why did she continue the experiment? It makes no sense.

      @TomJones-wi4nh because if she stops, Sue goes away, but she's still left on her own in the current state she's in. She still figured Sue getting the high life is still some sort of deep satisfaction for her.

    In my opinion, the majority of the film was good. But in the end it became a clown show, and just attempted to go too far without a reason.

      This is what I thought aswell, the start and middle right to a point where I thought it would finish with a resolution were good. But the later stages just dragged and didn't make any sense. I did like the visual and cinematography were really good.
      The concept of the film was great it just lost it at the final part. Don't know if it was comedic horror or just horror.

      3rd act was my favorite. I guess I have the opposite opinion of you. I like that this film took a wtf turn, because realistically, how else could this movie have ended?

  • @JoeChillton

    Went in with no knowledge opposed to the first trailer and loved this film, simple as that. It's Michael Bay's commercial direction meets Cronenberg.
    Might be a masterpiece.

    SPOILERS
    I was really enjoying this movie up until the last 20 minutes when the Troma-esque cartoon comic violence took over.
    I think the perfect ending point was when we have the reveal of the Elisabeth/Sue creature after Sue uses the left over activation serum.
    Though I did enjoy the very last part where Elisabeth’s face slimes its way over the footpath to sit on her Hollywood star. Had a bit of a chuckle.

    Something I picked up on with this one was what I perceived as allegories to Shelley Duvall’s treatment on behalf of Stanley Kubrick in the production of the Shining. There were some pretty direct Shining references I picked up on (the red bathroom, long hallway, music playing in said hallway). Maybe I’m just grasping at straws but that was just my view on it

  • @eddieschodowski
    @eddieschodowski Годину тому

    This was incredible [provided you view it as metaphorical and a message rather than literal entertainment]. I do feel like some of the film had allusions to Akira (1988) that might not be caught by most viewers.

    This is the 4th film I've seen with Margaret Qualley this year, with the other 3 being Poor Things, Drive-Away Dolls and Kinds of Kindness (In which she teams back up with the director of Poor Things, as well as Emma Stone, Willem Defoe etc).
    A bit of a break out year for her.

    This movie was insane. I think with all the close ups, Sue’s teeth were incredibly distracting. If we are to believe that everyone on earth thinks Sue is a beauty, shouldn’t she be “perfect?” Don’t get me wrong. She isn’t ugly. Just be more believable if we are to be sold on the concept.

    • @eddieschodowski
      @eddieschodowski Годину тому

      I can appreciate aspects of your perspective, yet that was likely a thoughtful decision in order to provoke your type of reaction…which says a lot about the exact critique of the film in that people are only valuable to the extent of their aesthetics. In reality, they are the same…including monstro-eliza-sue. Each has equal value in a country that imperfectly aspired to “all men are created equal,” yet most of us don’t believe this at all.

    Brilliant film! The only real gripe I had was that I felt the monster blood splattering sequence went on for way too long lol It honestly just felt goofy and super out of place. But aside from that, damn near-perfect body horror movie!

      She based it around looks because of societal and professional pressure. She doesn’t make choices in a vacuum. Also, the caricature of men doesn’t make it misandrist. This would be saying The Boondocks is racist because of Uncle Ruckus.
