Personally I see two reasons : 1. It made us inconfortable so that when it’s revealed that Lyle abused Erik, that aspect made sense 2. Once again, it’s illustrating a point a view and rumors that were said back then that were not true, and it’s up to us to decide what we want to believe or not. I don’t say that it’s a good idea but it makes more sense if we fully commit to the fact that it’s not a documentary and that it’s only inspired by real facts. For example I loved how they portrayed Lyle’s personality in the show even though according to the real events he wasn’t like this
I hate Ryan Murphy for his tendency to gaslight audiences into thinking he's not exploiting peoples trauma for clicks. That said, episode 5 is one of the best things I've ever seen to cinema and it's a testament to the actor who played Erik. 33 minutes, no cuts, perfect acting.
@@Anthonycheesman33I mean…the victims’ families spoke out against Ryan Murphy and the Dahmer series. And now Erik Menendez has released a statement speaking out against this series and Murphy as well.
So I’ll give you a example to think of because ima filmmaker. I will never know 9/11… so me watching a movie like United 93 gives me insight and tells me a possible story of what happen. I’ll never know what happen on Pearl Harbor, so watching the movie is the closest thing I’ll get to the scale one that. Dahmer and monsters season 2 is just all a very slim biopic for telling me what possibly or could of happen, it gives me knowledge and shows the tragic but realistic ideals that happen in the world. I want to make a movie about the dark knight massacre but since it’s about real people.. my producers have said I either have to say “inspired by true events” or change the names. There are victims of all these events, I don’t see how making a movie or show takes away or adds to their pain. If anything it informs more people that it happen.. and they can do what they will with that knowledge. Like the crazy people who romanized dahmer.
I think that with Menendez brothers we seriously dont know what happened.... but with Dahmer we basically know exactly what happened...series was even made way too acccurately as some said , I can imagine families went trough hell seeing that
I agree what line of respect was given making money off families deaths,,and you're right they will never know if those boys was raped or they were crotched to get off by using the fathers dominatsy to get off,,thing is they were 18,19 when the shot them in their sleep as when all they had to do is leave...I heard that someone came forward and said the father raped a musician when he was a kid so after 30 years they may retrial Erick and lyle
Hardly accurate, half the blacks were made up for diversity, the main black woman in it never even reported Dahmer, she saw him once in a hallway? But we fake history with them lot anyway don’t we… Did everything didn’t they…
I watched the beginning of both but stopped right before court started in both shows. In Dahmer it was very vivid and you almost feel like your there. In the new one for me at least it didn’t feel like that I agree a lot with the posters opinions. The actors were incredible in both but my heart breaks at the fact that none of the families knew. Houses of the victims families where leaked and they never saw a cent in compensation. And the same with the knew show, I could never imagine what they felt and feel about these shows.
The acting in menendez was phenomenal really. It had more power than dahmer. Theyre talking about being abused and the fact one scene was done in one take was insane. They deserve many awards
If you took out the sex and the swearing, Menendez season had an old school feel of Law and Order, which is not a bad thing. When it comes to Dahmer, it felt like it could be in the world of Mindhunter series, that was a masterpiece and needs a final season or movie to complete its story.
I was torn after finishing Monsters, about what I was supposed to take away from it. Initially I thought it was about did they or didn't they, get abused, or did they kill their parents for the money. In the end I realized that it was more about should they be sentenced to life for killing their monstrous parents and should their monstrous parents have been killed for ruining the boys lives. To me it was all about passing judgment. They all deserved judgment but who deserved compassion
i feel like as much as the dahmer show would be considered better in comparison to the menendez show, the rewatchability will easily go to the menendez show. With the dahmer show, I’ve only seen it twice and I struggled both times because of how much discomfort I felt. But with the Menendez show, I can see myself rewatching it repeatedly to try pick up on small details and everything. Love the video btw!!!
Don’t believe everything you see on this series😢 you can watch the actual trial here on youtube. Because the show deliberately exaggerated stuff and even made up some of it. They made only parents the victim, whereas the real ‘monsters’ were Jose and Kitty, they made their sons do this heinous crime
@@wonderer274 aw don’t worry, i’ve watched the real trial many times and spent many hours watching videos explaining people’s different opinions. I was a bit annoyed at how Ryan Murphy approached this show when he had such a good opportunity to tell the truth.
it was a brilliant show that portrayed complex reality that we will NEVER know for sure, no matter what the hardcore fans of the Menendez brothers say! It painted all the perspectives possible - the public perception at first, at the beginning of the show which was a brilliant choice, the boys' perspective, the lawyers' experiences, etc. And it absolutely showed brutal abuse in that house. I mean Javier Bardem in this role terrified me more than in the role of Anton Chigurh in No Country for the Old Man! He deserves all the awards for this role, he was just a pure, scary, unpredictable psychopath in this!! For all the people who have doubts, I recommend you watch it because of Bardem's acting alone, although it has many brutal, disturbing scenes!
Those "childish blind menendez cheerleaders" are people who have been studying this case since years and years. They have taken the time to watch the 1st trial, read the transcripts of the second trial, read through all the books ever written about this case, watch the body language analysis of the brothers carried out by multiple experts (and every expert has completely disproved the prosecution's argument that they were "acting" on the witness stand). People who willingly choose to shut their eyes and minds to 50+ witnesses and tonnes of evidence cannot be helped. Multiple phycologists, tennis coaches, teachers, friends and family members (who also happen to be the family of Jose and Kitty) had sided with the brothers way before the "childish blind cheerleaders" did, because we were all people with compassion, unlike you. This isn't fiction, it is based on real life. And it is an insult to REAL victims of abuse and their REAL family members who are REALLY suffering because the media has incessantly been mocking their trauma and pain. It's clear that you don't have a tiny bit of common sense or empathy, and you just tend to hide behind a screen and don't think twice before spitting your venom.
@@sana_the_bookaholicoh shut up none of you know anything of what happened. You are all just people with worthless lives trying to be part of something that you dont understand in order to feel like you are doing something with your life.
For everyone saying that the story was showed accurately, I have a lot to say, but at least let me remind you that the last scene, with the boat was not portrayed correctly! OMG, the captain in a real trial said that the boys were scared, and the whole trip were on the edge of the boat, even if it was windy, raining and overall very cold. The whole series, especially last episodes they were justifying parents. Even the father! WTF
because no one truly knows what happened i like you i assume believe the brothers but the show tried to show all possible perspectives not just the one you believe true.
I feel like murphy did a great job with dahmer but i think monsters werent upto the mark because the way they had portrayed lyle was bad and they have sexualized a lot of unnecessary things in the show, which in my opinion was just to make the series talk of the town ! But yhe actors did incredible job especially cooper with the erik 's character!
I think Menéndez was more watchable and easier to digest than Dahmer because Dahmer was so- oh my gosh, it made me recoil. Not because of the storyline but just the way they really focused in on the victims. Like I wanted to jump through the screen and shake the mess outta the cops fr. And it was so emotionally winding. But I loved the first season. Menendez. Oi. I think Murphy was trying to show two sides while also really focusing on the depth of the situation which was the SA. Like, he wasn’t trying to mask Kitty and José as victims or the Menendez brothers as the monsters. At one point the media did turn against the brothers, because at the time of the trial, it was not believed for men to R**ped. They referred to it as “sex” versus what it actually was “r**pe”. And I think with the Josè and Kitty episode, that’s from the perspective of the ones who did not believe the brothers. Which is sad and truly infuriating. Things would’ve been much different if that happened now. Now, some things, similar to Dahmer, were added sensationalized for entertainment and narrative purposes. But like the rumors and all that about the brothers, those did happen during trial when the media turned against them at some point and people more focused on OJ and wanted a turn around. And them boys suffered but no one wanted to believe two rich kids. But episode five, was TOP TIER. Both seasons were good. 👍 can’t wait for the next.
As someone who watched the entire Menendez trial, the prosecutipn snd defense sides, this show could not be more inaccurate and biased. And they made so many things up, it's unreal. I also thought the acting from just about everybody was campy, over the top, and unrealistic. Especially the actor playing Lyle.
Y’all do know that’s what they do with majority of shows and movies that are based on true events they add things that didn’t happen for dramatization purposes
@@loritorres715Of course. And it is even more unethical when the people involved and affected are still alive. I would feel this way for any show made about a real tragedy that is handled with this level of inaccuracy and callousness.
Ryan Murphy is notorious for creating falsehoods. Also, both shows (and also the Gianni Versace film) over glamorize the criminals, and make them seksy.
The acting in the Menendez season was phenomenal. I feel like the seasons intent was to show all angles (like the brothers adult incestuous relationship or Kitty not knowing about the abuse) and in a way point out that we don't really know what happened, though they were clearly abused and just because we saw loving moments in the show from the parent doesn't conflict with their abuse or change who they are, people are complicated but no matter what they were abusers and did horrific things.
Fuck those shows alright Remember the victims not the killers The Jeffrey one was so dramatizing it was almost gross Haven't watched this S2 one but I bet it's a dramatizing/romanticizing piece of shit as well
They’re both great shows, simply different and distinct in the portrayals of roles. Absolutely loved both. I would say that the Lyle and Erik series had more nuances, need more time to really get into the details. It’s so rich that it brings complexity to the justice system and process. Educative yet gripping. The Dahmer series kind of had finality that made it hinge tightly on the characters to bring something new and exciting to watch after so many years in public view. The Menendez series however, shows progression in terms of justice and giving the audience the magic to dream about “what if.” What if they had another case and were found to be innocent, what if and what if. I think that’s the beauty of storytelling. But the both shows are great!! 👍🏾 would watch again.
Bardem is smth else in this show... This show is worth watching for Javier Bardem's role alone!! It's brilliant and scary as hell! Just like someone else already commented here, Bardem scared me more in this than in The Old Country for Old Men! The scene with the male prostitute, when he is playing the Roman Emperor in a fetish sex role-play, was scary and disgusting; the first family argument, when Kitty pulls Lyle's wig off, and Jose suddenly, in a fit of rage, smashes the plate against the wall, gave me almost a heart attack, and is hard to get through. I personally loved the show, and I think the case is subtly, and fairly analyzed.
i just don’t understand how ryan murphy can compare the menendez brothers to serial killers? it’s clear that the series tackles serial killers cuz the third season is going to be about ed gein. i know the menendez brothers killed their parents but i don’t understand what are ryan’s intentions here??
I don't think one is better than the other. They are two different stories, with two different approaches. We have the facts with Dahmer, we know what happened. With the Menendez brothers there is a lot of ambiguity and I liked the creative approach to show that. Also, that episode of Erik..wow
I cannot believe how so many people write that Murphy didn't portray the abuse angle enough and that he showed the parents in a good light. What?! Nonsense! We obviously watched a different show! This show is absolutely brilliant, just as Dahmer's show was, and the portrayal of Jose Menendez is downright terrifying! Javier Bardem is an absolutely amazing actor, that role was brilliantly written and acted!! Jose is portrayed as a terrifying sadist & abuser, and together with Kitty's collaboration, the whole situation in this house is shown to be hell on Earth! So idk what people here watched, and what they are talking about! It was an absolutely brilliant portrayal - complex, raw, with depth - of an awful, toxic family, the breakdown of the marriage, and the complete breakdown of dreams. All the actors were fantastic, but Bardem seriously needs to get a Golden Globe, Emmy & other nominations, he was scary af in this role!
The two main problems that I think many people have with this series are: - the parents focused episode and all the episodes after that. While we still do not have 100% proofs that the brothers did it for self defence, we got many proofs during the years after the process that proved how terrible were the parents, and what does the series do? Decides to make an episodes where they say that the parents were actually not that terrible and just victims of their own families and after that make the final twist of the series the fact that the brothers were actually lying this all time. - all the inaccuracies with the actual process (mainly the fact that Lylee character gets turned into some kind of comicbook villain.
@@nabboleonebonaparte369I don’t think they showed the brothers were lying just that they were trying to win this case as best they can and the sexual abuse was true it’s just that everyone in that 90s era thought they were lying about everything this show just shows us the many different sides of people point of view and thinking and how you shouldn’t let emotions take over the facts and the facts are these boys were raped and doing it cause it was the only way to escape this chain of abuse
@@nabboleonebonaparte369Dude, they are still portrayed as terrible. It just shows the problems of generational trauma and abuse. I watched the parents episode and I do not get one ounce of sympathy
I completely agree. People often watch without grasping the nuances, needing everything explicitly spelled out. This show is layered and complex. Instead of a parent's episode, we see the brothers' accounts, the police's and prosecution's versions, and shifting public opinion, including the perspectives of Nathan Lane's character and the jurors. The events of that night remain uncertain, and the show effectively illustrates these varying perspectives, leaving it up to viewers to decide what to believe. Do I believe they were abused? Yes. Do I think they committed a brutal crime? Yes. Were they justified? I honestly don’t know. Many try to view this show in black-and-white terms, but it’s more nuanced. It serves as a case study on the experiences of abuse victims and the stigma faced by male sexual abuse survivors. For instance, the phone call between Jose and his mom reveals the history of abuse, highlighting that 66% of sexual abusers were themselves abused, illustrating how the cycle of violence perpetuates through generations. This is not a justification for Jose's actions; it's simply a fact that hurt people often hurt others. Erik’s reserved nature reflects the impact of his father’s abuse on his ability to understand his own sexuality. Similarly, Lyle's short temper and impulsive behavior are clear signs of someone who has suffered abuse. The contrast between Lyle and Erik’s behaviors further emphasizes that abuse victims can react in vastly different ways.
The show was obviously justifying parents. And the boat scene was made up! You can watch the captains’ statement, the boys were visibly scared, and even the captain knew that something was wrong. They left so mich information, and exaggerated stuff to make Erik and Lyle look like psychopaths
I don’t understand why people are slamming the show.. my understanding is that it’s a SHOW. It’s not a documentary for crying out loud! The Dahmer series had inconsistencies as well not to mention that heroine the American African lady she was written to be extremely annoying to me… and I wasn’t the only one thinking this. I get it child rape is evil yes but this is a show it’s a freaking drama. If you want something real watch a documentary!
I’m confused what you meant by seeing Kitty and Jose as “loving parents” there was not a single moment in the show where they were ever loving towards those poor boys. Their own sons.
I know I might be alone on this but some of the performances in Menendez, aside from Cooper Koch & Javier Bardem, really did not work for me. Everytime Lyle or Dr Oziel were in a scene I felt taken out of the show.
I feel that the best performance from the Menendez Brothers show was the performance Nathan Lane gave as Daniel Dunne when he awaited the results for the verdict of his daughter's killer. That scene felt so raw.
Jeffrey parents: mentally abusive, absentee parents, emotional abuse, abandonment abuse. Erik and Lyle parents: unknown really, two different stories. Were Erik and Lyle parents loving parents or were they bad towards their children.
Ed geins parents, most likely worse, punished Ed for trying to make friends, wasn't allowed to have a girlfriend, all girls were prostitutes according to his mom, extremely controlling. What does that do to a child, there so much more as well
lol some people here are mad because Murphy didn't go for easy answers... They literally portrayed all the awful abuse towards the boys and Kitty, and Kitty's depression and enabler of her husband. If anything, Murphy showed that Jose was a scary psycho who changed according to circumstances, when the change fit his agenda. He only started to be 'better' when he decided that he had to make it in politics himself, because 'the boys were disappointment' but the 'change' was superficial, exactly as sociopaths act, it's literally in the show. On the other hand, Murphy also asks interesting questions that blind cheerleaders of the brothers don't want to answer, but we need to ask this, as even if your side is sure you are 10000% right, it's not that simple. The only truth we know for sure in this case is that we really don't know what happened there, inside this house for all these years, yes, there was abuse and control by Jose part, and it is shown brutally on the show, but the fact is, there were also lies and sociopathic behaviors of the boys, and literally other part of their family also said it. This family is to this day divided between believing them vs not believing them, and THAT'S a FACT. If you wanted Murphy to just brainlessly repeat one side of the story, you actually don't understand what makes great TV, and what actually is close to real life - life is always complex, truth is complex in cases like this, and this is what Murphy portrays brilliantly. He asks questions and doesn't give you easy answers, and for me, that was the most accurate portrayal of this whole awful case. Also, two things can exist together. They were abused, and Murphy& co literally showed this, but they were also very, very disturbed young men because they were products of their sick and toxic environment, and Murphy also showed this absolutely brilliantly! For me, it is finally balanced, analytic on a deep level, traumatic, and an excellent show about this case! And Javier Bardem as Jose is absolutely terrifying! He is an abusive sadist in this, so idk what are you talking about!
I disagree, they showed Jose as practically charming, sympathetic and warm while witnesses testified he was a terrifying person to be around. They showed almost 0 abuse compared to what was actually going on. The sexual abuse, physical abuse, mocking them, making them feel worthless, scaring them, forcing them to practice tennis, etc etc. A lot of his anger in the show came from the brothers stealing/cheating and he was just this poor man who was trying to raise his impossible sons who yelled abuse at him
@@elisabet1138that’s the scary thing that episode showed us jose is a hypocrite he wonders why his boys are the way they are yet he chooses to ignore all the sexual abuse he made them endure and not putting that possibility in his head that he fucked up his kids that’s why it’s so scary he was putting on a mask for everyone else not revealing his true sick self
@@spritedan6672 they’re doing ed gein which is think works. It’s so long ago that survivors aren’t likely to still be alive and his life is interesting beyond the two murders. Charlie hunham sucks for the casting though.
The acting from the actors that played the brothers was on another level. Hope this is a breakthrough for them. It takes a great actor to potray the real abuse the brothers expierenced, I cried during episode 5 "the hurt man". And Nicholas Chavez on the stand was heartbreaking.
I felt like I was constantly being lied to in season 2, which I think was the exact point of it. How confusing the case was with all the lies and contradictory statements. So many questions left unanswered. As the audience you never know what to believe. Dahmer is much less dynamic in that way, because no matter how much you explore his past you’ll never be able to root for him or feel conflicting feelings about the case. You could make an argument that the Menendez brothers deserved a lighter punishment. I also found that the legal case itself being a major focus in season 2 made it a bit more interesting. Watching the real life case side-by-side with the show was extremely impressive. The actors nailed Leslie, Erik, Lyle and all the other witnesses who gave statements in that case. I wish dahmer would’ve focused a bit more on the horror aspect because that’s what it did best by far. I don’t understand the complaints about the show considering how much time they spent on the victims and their families and the injustices they faced.
Ed gein, I believe is gonna be darker and more disturbed then Dahmer. I liked season 1 because it was dark and disturbed, remember Jeffrey is small time compared to Ed. Ed geins story is just extremely tragic, the mother constantly punishing his son for trying to make friends especially girls, the mother was extremely controlling, saying I'm the only one. His house, his chairs covers in human skin, bones, imagine the ost, the theme when you walk in his house, grim and black. Most likely episode 1 will depict his last murder, body upside down, gutted, camera following Ed to his house, seeing the darkness and depravity of it, the just like episode 2 of Dahmer we cut to his childhood. Ed gein/Charlie Hunnam is gonna be great. What do you think
@fr6nz99 Jeffrey dahmer small time compared to Ed Gein? 😂 have you read what dahmer did to his victims when cutting them up? Have you seen any of the real photos he took? Believe me dahmer was not small time compared to Ed Gein.
I think the menendez's story was easier for me to watch and understand bc the characters seemed so human, a really tridimensional view of the people they were portraying, really great performances from the actors too. I also thought about what you said about them going back and forth and while it can get confusing for the plot it makes sense them wanting us to form our own opinion. Dahmer's story is almost too dark to be told on tv I don't know how to feel about it tbh
I’m worried that *Monster* might try too hard to be “unique” by featuring killers with vague evidence. Season 2 felt very different from Dahmer’s, as the evidence surrounding the brothers is unclear, making it tough to grasp the truth when both sides are debating. It often seems biased against the boys, especially Lyle. The parents are portrayed as abusive, yet the narrative suggests the boys have sociopathic tendencies without questioning the parents' behavior. The show tries to humanize the parents, which is understandable given their murders, but it feels excessive and undermines the boys' experiences. The Dahmer season was already flamed for being exploitative but now with this one you can really tell they exploited these men’s experiences and entertained disgusting rumors that disregarded their trauma with the abuse they had.
I enjoyed Monsters because of Lyle, because they portrayed him as a psychopath, not a sociopath. And Erik was more of a sociopath. What I think the show did really well, is show the contrast between a psychopath and a sociopath. Dahmer was probably a better show but I specifically have an interest in psychopathy. So Lyle was a really fascinating character to me.
I heard Lyle Menendez in response to Netflix series say over air interview that the spin put on it took away from the child abuse focus. That said, th abuse Lyle&Eric survived was horrific, but not justification for their cold blooded decision to murder their parents. They could have left.
I think it actually would've made the most sense if this show was part of the american crime story series instead of monsters. I understand why it was filed as monsters but I think it alters the reception.
I thought both shows were actually well written to show the many different angles of peoples different POV’s and it helps you understand why the crime happened the way it did
evan peters as dahmer really messed me up watching the first monsters series i remember when i first learned about dahmer as a kid and seeing his crimes gave me nightmares and i used to have sleepless nights thinking of serial killers like him that i used to search up on youtube evan peters really knocked that role out of the park for me and and should’ve won that emmy i am now 24 and watching that really brought me back to those days was i was looking over my shoulder at night scared as fuck thinking of bundy gacy or the dc snipers shi like that used to fuck me up 😂and i feel like nobody brought that real life true story craziness of a killer on screen like he did the menendez one was great too because it showed you 2 prospectives showing you that the abuse the brothers claimed was going on was real and the other prospective showing that they were spoiled brats that took their parents out for money i never seen a show handle real life events like that before and it’s brilliant because only the brothers and their parents that they killed know how this truly went down and the show leaves you the watcher to decide what happened in your opinion
I am not comfortable admitting this and I won’t say I enjoyed it but I really really liked Dahmer as a series. I still think The Mendez story is good though. Once again the actors are amazing.
There seems to be a comedic element to this 2nd season that I can't get behind. I too, loved the dark depiction of Dahmer's story. It was chilling. I know the brothers were seen as ridiculous by a lot of people because of their wealth, but it seems that they've written most of the characters as equally clown-like. I've watched a few reaction channels for both Dahmer and Menendez Bros. Most reactors to the latter spend more time laughing at the brothers than they so in horror or disgust. Just my take, but I couldn't even finish the Lyle and Erik story. I was kid when these brothers saturated the news and I remember being riveted to the T.V., so the story is compelling enough, but not told this way, not for me at least.
I think the menandez brothers were not the actual monsters obviously instead we watched monsters leading innocent people to commit a horrifying crime however the show was disappointing at the end they made up soo much stuff about the brothers to make the show interesting as if we will never know but we do know 50 people witnessed the abuse not to mention the recent boyband guy who also accused the father of grape two men done wrong by parents than justice system and now even murphy these are real people who have received torture throughout their life we need to do better for them
Nobody WITNESSED the sex abuse, everything found was circumstantial, what is known as fact is that these boys could lie with ease and committed premeditated murder. I’m not saying it didn’t happen either because that’s the thing, we’ll never know. Believing something doesn’t make it fact and that’s what you people need to come to terms with
@@C00lGuyWithHats are u tone deaf 56 people talked about the abuse they had told their family members multiple times so ur telling me 56 people lied the photos taken by the dad and why are more victims of the dad coming out if they lied
I think it was a commercial decision. If they portrayed the brothers as saintly the abuse would have made the show too dark for many viewers. Dahmer did very well yes but I know so many people who stopped watching because they couldn’t stomach it
why didnt it make ME sick aswell? i watched through it but its nothing compared to what we watched with my classmates back in the school...real decapitations etc.

The Jeffrey Dahmer show might be darker tonally but they literally went wild showing the gore in the Menendez Brothers when they killed their parents with shotguns like it literally happened on screen unlike in the Dahmer show where most of killings we're censored or happened off screen.
Dahmer killed a bunch of strangers. Mendez brothers killed only two but crucial and core people. The people that brought them into this world. Two very different killers but very interesting watch.
Now Ed gein most likely killed 3 people, 2 confirmed 3rd being his brother, but skin suits, chairs out of human skin, belts, the depravity and darkness of it, next level compared to Jeffrey. The mother well, bad really bad, if you haven't look her up, punished her child for trying to make friends, wasn't allowed to have a girlfriend because all girls were prostitutes according to her, can't wait for season e
Awesome video! I must say , when seeing the shower scene in Monsters 2, I assumed that this had just be an imaginary scene as they were made up speculations about reasons that made the brothers kill their parents.
For me the Menéndez story was a lot easier to watch than the Dahmer story that’s for sure one show is about a psychopath and the other is about two brothers were sociopaths but you actually sympathize with them
i think monsters is automatically better because its just 2 people who died so its not like any family members who didnt kill them are gonna be retraumatized by the show
The Mendez Brothers were innocent the reason why they kill their parents bcuz they were planning to kill them after years of sexual abuse by their parents the brothers were trying to defend themselves.
Agree. Monsters: Lyle & Erik... was good work but not Murphy's best - it's disjointed, projecting, and is paced in a really chunky fashion - some scenes are too long, and a slog to get through, and other's pop and bristle. it's uneven, and doesn't really take the audience anywhere new or jarring - its just a rehash.
With Dahmer, there's a sustained "Heart of Darkness" throughout a 40 month period where he extinguished the lives of 16 individuals, all for sexual pleasure and control. I have to say I don't know how he kept that up for all that time without losing it Erik Menendez style - the man certainly had a mind, heart and soul of stone. He killed with the ruthless efficiency of a chicken processing plant - at one point devouring 12 lives in a final 14 month stint just prior to his capture. With the Menendez case, there's so many shades of grey. Nothing is black and white. Dahmer's black heart, and the shining whiteness of the souls of his victims, is totally gone - in its place is conjecture on more conjecture, speculation, hints at who was to blame without anything highly concrete, and a kind of shared culpability among the entire family. This is probably the best one-two punch to kick off what will hopefully be a very long and successful series. If they keep this up - Monsters 15 - The Bryan Kohberger Story, will be riveting. My main praise for the show is that it tackles pepole who killed victims that were not in any way to blame for their fates. The victims didn't do anything that tempted fate, yet they were the sad victims of a grim fate they couldn't possibly have imagined even like the day before their deaths. The types of victims that most Serial Killers or murderers in general attack however, are often those who put themselves in positions of vulnerability - take Bundy, Gacy and Ridgway's victims - and they wouldn't make great subjects for Monsters. It's the victims of Dahmer, of the Menendezes, of Gein and of Kohberger, that draw us in - people doing little more than watching TV on their couch, sleeping in their beds, or meeting someone on the street or at a nightclub and going back to their apartment. Things that millions of people do every day (or did in the time they were doing them). They're the most blameless victims imaginable, at least on the surface (Jose Menendez being a very suspicious character, but not much being proven outright regarding the molestation). Surely they deserve a show to remind us all that anyone can be a victim of these terrible killers.
Dahmer took more distance to the events and Peters was so magnificent on being possessed by a disturb individual. The brother were victims that replicated the violence to defend themselves, it felt exploitative. I stop watching until episode 5 , as doubting a survivor of incest is so wrong. I saw parts of the trial, it is heart breaking their testimonies.
Murphy's telling of the Dahmer murders had a deeper impact on me. Beyond scary creepy I think it was the better of the two in his Monster anthology. I wonder how hw will retell the John Wayne Gacy murders and pathology next season. So dark🥺
@@DatBoiChris420 I heard Huuman will act as Ed Gein. I just read where this killer will be featured in season 3. The serial killer who killed, ate and made items around his home from their skin. The movie Psycho was loosely based on him. Super dark. Gacy will be the next Murphy Monster.
In my opinion, the Dahmer series is better. The Menendez brothers were victims that turned Predators. Didn't Erik say lyle also S.A. him when he was young????
Murphy, every movie starts great, than the middle its ok, you have to force the end because the first was so good. A lot of people are re-watching maybe missed something. No it's crap. If Murphy asked family or Bands Menudo why they got fired once 18? or The Bangles why didn't they play their instruments? Why did so many women break up? I remember (showing my age) their a journal asked a neighbor who heard the guns bullets well why did you call the Police? The neighbor said I don't care and I'm sorry for the boys. I wonder why he called them boys Eric and Lyle? That neighborhood is very wealthy. Murphy doesn't do his own job he just copies that's all he does. If the actor depends on the script it will be crap.
I think both are good shows, I like horror that bases itself on real life scenarios draws me in and I enjoy it for what it is, this is exactly why we cant have nothing good nowadays cause everything gets censored cause people take stuff up the bum and whine about everything. Like this monsters series is super cool imo cause we get a show that for the most part depicts all the events that occur in real life almost down to a tee, we never had shows that do that and in todays world of movies and shows we desperately need that but we bouta get that shit cancelled over all this negative ass criticism
After understanding that Ryan took too much of creative liberty and manipulated the Brothers' story, i doubt how much truth DAHMER or how much of it was manipulated??
I would also say that I hope that they never make another movie or show abou Aileen Wuornos....cause this is sooo difficult to do... this womans life...omg I have researched and read her letters and its just...her whole life was a hell...and I have seen this happening in another country...a s*x worker got abused and r*Ped soo many times that she started to have such a deep hatred of men that she became a "John" serial killer aswell... with Aileen I dont believe it was all r*pe ...I believe it was maybe first time but 7..... no she just had soo much hate in her heart because of the life she had seen...but like many say does that justify? since there are alot of girls like Aileen and they can somehow keep it together, I really wish they would just leave these serial killer shows.... its bad for the families and overall these are real people and real tragedies
I wont watch the Dahmer ahow as i watched the victim impact court room videos and ethically it felt wrong. I had no feelings towards the Memendez murders though i knew of them. Maybe because of my own feelings towards my own parents.
I don’t like the DAHMER one as it really sexualises him and the people he kills and it turns him into more of a pervert than he was. I think the better depiction of him was in the 2017 movie as it was a sad story and it felt more like a human version of him as it is directly based on accounts from his old friends
what is the point of posting this video. don't u have a video praising season 1 already? i dont understand the comparison. just say u didn't like season 2 💀
How is Netflix even allowed to release these shows? I thought it was addressed in the Dahmer series in one of the episodes where the victims families sued so no one else could profit from the story. Or was that just specifically for Jeffrey Dahmer's father?
It’s hilarious that till this day people really think they killed their parents because they were abused or that was the main reason that drove them to do it.
Which show did you think was better out of the two in the Monsters series? Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

Dahmer
Cooper Koch as Erik Menendez really deserves an Emmy award for Best Actor!!!
He was great! Episode 5 was very powerful
It was lyle for me.
Yesssss omg
@AK-vb9fv For me, Lyle felt way too much of a caricature. And even the real Erik Menendez said he feels this way about Lyle's portrayal in the show.
@@kayefbutterfly the old Chara was better
I just wanna understand one thing: WHY the FUCK were the brothers sexualized so much? They were practically portrayed as a gay couple!
Personally I see two reasons :
1. It made us inconfortable so that when it’s revealed that Lyle abused Erik, that aspect made sense

Shii if you think Ryan Murphy is this bad, you don’t know what goes on in Hollywood then💀
They literally made a dahmer movie a year after the killings and you people want to call Ryan Murphy bad lol.
@@Anthonycheesman33I mean…the victims’ families spoke out against Ryan Murphy and the Dahmer series. And now Erik Menendez has released a statement speaking out against this series and Murphy as well.
@@Anthonycheesman33 if the families and people featured in his productions had no issue with his depictions, neither would I. But they do.
We know what happend with menendez brothers too there are many many evidence for it
Hardly accurate, half the blacks were made up for diversity, the main black woman in it never even reported Dahmer, she saw him once in a hallway? But we fake history with them lot anyway don’t we… Did everything didn’t they…
@@nansiipii9018 the diffrence is, in Dahmer we know for sure, in those 2 case there is alot of uknown
The one episode was done in one scene with the camera, just moving slowly into his face
I think Evan Peters has been through hell and Dahmer really shook him up. However, the Dahmer series is 100% better than the Menendez brothers
If you took out the sex and the swearing, Menendez season had an old school feel of Law and Order, which is not a bad thing. When it comes to Dahmer, it felt like it could be in the world of Mindhunter series, that was a masterpiece and needs a final season or movie to complete its story.
Mindhunter not getting finished is wild

I was torn after finishing Monsters, about what I was supposed to take away from it. Initially I thought it was about did they or didn't they, get abused, or did they kill their parents for the money. In the end I realized that it was more about should they be sentenced to life for killing their monstrous parents and should their monstrous parents have been killed for ruining the boys lives. To me it was all about passing judgment. They all deserved judgment but who deserved compassion
You hit the nail on the head. We the viewer are the jury
i feel like as much as the dahmer show would be considered better in comparison to the menendez show, the rewatchability will easily go to the menendez show. With the dahmer show, I’ve only seen it twice and I struggled both times because of how much discomfort I felt. But with the Menendez show, I can see myself rewatching it repeatedly to try pick up on small details and everything.
Love the video btw!!!
That's a fair point and I totally get that! Glad you enjoyed the video!
@@kateford5575 yes, exactly!
it was a brilliant show that portrayed complex reality that we will NEVER know for sure, no matter what the hardcore fans of the Menendez brothers say!
The only thing Ryan Murphy deserves flowers for is his casting. It’s so eerily perfect in every aspect in every project.
The casting was and is always really strong!

I had no idea who the actors were gonna be for this season, and when I saw Javier as the dad i jump up and said "OH SHIT" and was not disappointed
Yeah he definitely gave a strong performance
I’m obsessed with both of these shows just everything!
in my opinion they are both amazing to watch
Yeah they are both good in their own right!
Fuck those shows alright
Remember the victims not the killers
The Jeffrey one was so dramatizing it was almost gross
Haven't watched this S2 one but I bet it's a dramatizing/romanticizing piece of shit as well
They’re both great shows, simply different and distinct in the portrayals of roles.
I have to go with the Dahmer series. My condolences to all the families involved
Personally, I preferred the Dahmer show over the lyle and erik show.
Those brothers are lucky the Dad didn’t have a Lucky Coin😉 “Call it”
They shouldn't be in prison they should have never been convicted at all.
Excellent retrospective deserving of a longer presentation...Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it!
i just don’t understand how ryan murphy can compare the menendez brothers to serial killers? it’s clear that the series tackles serial killers cuz the third season is going to be about ed gein.
i know the menendez brothers killed their parents but i don’t understand what are ryan’s intentions here??
I think all three actors are PHENOMENAL! Evan, of course! But these two guys, never seen them in anything before, NAILED IT! GREAT performances!
Yeah all of the cast in both shows were really good
I don't think one is better than the other. They are two different stories, with two different approaches. We have the facts with Dahmer, we know what happened. With the Menendez brothers there is a lot of ambiguity and I liked the creative approach to show that. Also, that episode of Erik..wow
That's a fair point! Yeah that was a really good episode
The two main problems that I think many people have with this series are:
- the parents focused episode and all the episodes after that.
Two brilliant actors of the generation
Congratulations to Netflix and MONSTER'S productions (Ryan,Ian, etc) cast and crew!

but very fitting that at the start in the prison scenes they desperately needed Quarters & Javier being their father from No country for old men
You’re just as bad as the dam grandma DIMES they need DIMES!!!
Dimes!!!...not quarters
What does that do to a child, there so much more as well
i had one friend who did something similar as Dahmer but then we had a big talk and so far he has changed for the better.
lol some people here are mad because Murphy didn't go for easy answers...

For Season 4 we need
Monster : The Adam Lanza Story
Ryan Murphy raised the stakes so high in season 1 💀
just like all of his other shows !!
@@maine0389 I'm talking about the depravity of it, in terms of depravity, Jeffrey is small time as I mention to others
@@fr6nz99 of course it's ok to have different options on this but not everyone is going to agree with you.
I fully agree
I thought both shows were actually well written to show the many different angles of peoples different POV’s and it helps you understand why the crime happened the way it did
evan peters as dahmer really messed me up watching the first monsters series i remember when i first learned about dahmer as a kid and seeing his crimes gave me nightmares and i used to have sleepless nights thinking of serial killers like him that i used to search up on youtube evan peters really knocked that role out of the park for me and and should’ve won that emmy i am now 24 and watching that really brought me back to those days was i was looking over my shoulder at night scared as fuck thinking of bundy gacy or the dc snipers shi like that used to fuck me up 😂and i feel like nobody brought that real life true story craziness of a killer on screen like he did
the menendez one was great too because it showed you 2 prospectives showing you that the abuse the brothers claimed was going on was real and the other prospective showing that they were spoiled brats that took their parents out for money i never seen a show handle real life events like that before and it’s brilliant because only the brothers and their parents that they killed know how this truly went down and the show leaves you the watcher to decide what happened in your opinion
Basically Dahmer = Monster
The Menendez = Monsters?

Both were good,,Dahmer was better and looking forward to season 3 with !
I really did not know that much about the Menendez case so in that aspect season 2 was very interesting for me. But i like season 1 more
Yeah same!
So which criminal will they use next for the Monster series
Ed Gein is the focus of Season 3
I think it was a commercial decision. If they portrayed the brothers as saintly the abuse would have made the show too dark for many viewers. Dahmer did very well yes but I know so many people who stopped watching because they couldn’t stomach it
why didnt it make ME sick aswell? i watched through it but its nothing compared to what we watched with my classmates back in the school...real decapitations etc.
@@Homelanderwasright those slasher moves are movies, what happened in dahmer happened in reality. The dude really kept organs and stuff and ate peoples hearts . I think that it happened made jt hard for people to waychc
@@luchahn8430 nah i dont talk about movies..i talk about dark webs where literal slaughters and decapitations took place or even a man put on a rail and run over by train..those were all real things we used to look up on the internet when we were about 13y.o.
Not slasher movies, i talk about real stuff.
@@Homelanderwasright that’s u not everyone is a sick fu k. I hope u and ur friends stop watching those things , porn is bad enough
Are you gonna cover the Squid Game S2 teaser??
Dahmer beats Melendez but Melendez is still watchable. Very watchable.
It was a wonderful movie. My soap guy -phillip was a wonderfully lyle
Murphy's telling of the Dahmer murders had a deeper impact on me. Beyond scary creepy I think it was the better of the two in his Monster anthology. I wonder how hw will retell the John Wayne Gacy murders and pathology next season. So dark🥺
Is the Gacy season gonna have Charlie Hunnam?
@@DatBoiChris420 I heard Huuman will act as Ed Gein. I just read where this killer will be featured in season 3. The serial killer who killed, ate and made items around his home from their skin. The movie Psycho was loosely based on him. Super dark. Gacy will be the next Murphy Monster.
@@lunacascade1125 ahhhh okay......Injust seen that Hunnam was gonna be the main lead I just didn't know which season
Why is this even a question 💀
In my opinion, the Dahmer series is better. The Menendez brothers were victims that turned Predators. Didn't Erik say lyle also S.A. him when he was young????
Need a Monster: Charles Manson netflix series
First half of Menendez was excellent, on pay with Dahmer but it fell off big time near the end
I don’t like how they portray the Menendez brothers in the show
After understanding that Ryan took too much of creative liberty and manipulated the Brothers' story, i doubt how much truth DAHMER or how much of it was manipulated??
Everyone the critiques Ryan Murphy just needs to cry about it and get over it
i have watched both of them and i need similer doc ... any suggestionsss pls
I agree dahmer was 90% accurate
Both shows (and also the Gianni Versace film) over glamorize the criminals. And the facts are all wrong.
I think some people just hate Ryan Murphy for whatever reason . They act like he’s the only one who does these kind of subjects .
They should have done a ted bundy or the killer clown
The clown guy is next season, then Ed gein
@@BlueSunShineDM hell yeah!
No. Next season is ed gein.@@BlueSunShineDM
I sincerely disagree with your opinion... the brothers story was much better
what is the point of posting this video. don't u have a video praising season 1 already? i dont understand the comparison. just say u didn't like season 2 💀
The directors behind the monsters series should do ted bundy,Charles manson or Richard ramirez next.
How is Netflix even allowed to release these shows? I thought it was addressed in the Dahmer series in one of the episodes where the victims families sued so no one else could profit from the story. Or was that just specifically for Jeffrey Dahmer's father?
If you want accuracy go watch a documentary
True. It wouldn't surprise me if Netflix release something similar. As they did that with the Dahmer show
It’s hilarious that till this day people really think they killed their parents because they were abused or that was the main reason that drove them to do it.
