I don't know where to begin. Why Ryan Murphy thought it was acceptable to portray the brothers in this light is sickening. It seemed like he was using them to fill some exotic gay fantasy. Especially with Erik, who has repeatedly said he's not gay. And Lyle to be a cartoon vilian, and unlikeable mess. And Jose? Could not agree more with this comment. Made to be light-hearted and comedic; this is not funny and non one should attempt to make it so. Very distasteful
I would give myself whiplash every time I remembered this was based on real life. I don’t know how to explain it but this feels like a good Netflix show not the real life Menéndez case.
I expected the show to provide a neutral perspective, but it seemed to frame the brothers as either one being "good" or "evil." I also found the rumors about consensual incest and Erik's sexuality troubling, and the unnecessary nudity felt inappropriate, especially given the real-life experiences of what the brothers went through, so doing those unnecessary scenes just felt disrespectful… The ending was also disappointing. It was weird for them to portray the parents having a "sweet" conversation about the future when the show had already established they were not good people. It felt off to portray them positively while villainizing Lyle for being assertive. Idk it just felt like the brothers deserved more justice and the representation just wasn’t there.
Having that incredible episode 5 and then ending the show portraying Jose and Kitty as the victims and Erik and Lyle as the cold blooded killers is such a spit in the face of abuse survivors. I feel so stupid for ever having been optimistic about this show.
Totally agree with you…I felt gaslighted by the show….I had to go back and watch their real testimonies, cause it felt like they distorted the reality…I mean everything is out there…there was so much potential to explore their story…but it was completely wasted…

@@erenyeager3068 yes exactly the story was told through the eyes of the people involved and surrounding the situation at the time. Its delusional and unrealistic to think that's there's not even an ounce of doubt with the brothers accusations which is what I loved about watching the show it caused me to think and be like ‘wait a minute but’! At the end of the show my opinion hadn't changed but during it felt like how it must of been for everyone involved. The show is and will be very popular and most likely bring the boys new supporters hopefully with more people fighting in there corner they have a good shot at winning this current appeal
@@jessicacapriglione1919right!!! Honestly I think media literacy is lacking and people are just stupid these days. The last scene Erik & Lyle literally had tears in their eyes, were they agreeing they were gonna kill their parents? Yes but they’re not happy about it. Which aligns with the complicated feelings Erik was discussing in Ep 5. Where does that scream José & Kitty are victims? Nothing about the final scene gives they were lying & did it for money.
If it weren't for that very last scene, I would have just had mixed feelings about it. I mean, Lyle's portrayal was awful, some of the trial scenes, especially Erik's testimony, were just inaccurate, the scenes with Oziel were only what Oziel said happened, but at least the narrative seemed to be somewhat sympathetic towards the boys. But that last scene just made me angry. It's like Ryan Murphy is reaching through the screen to tell me how clever he is, but he still doesn't seem to know that he's portraying real people.
I agree. But I haven't watched the entire series yet. You have to wonder does Ryan realize he's portraying actual individuals still alive. Public opinion can sway. I would point people to watch actual first trial .
Accurate or not, Javier bardem is an incredible actor. His portrayal of Jose is chilling, scary and made me hate him with a passion. The show made me research the facts of the case. It has served a purpose.
Btw, did anyone notice that episode 5 was all in one shot? I don’t know if a lot of it was an improv or scripted from A to Z (which would be even more impressive) but kudos to the actors 👏👏👏
That episode blew me away! I noticed a few minutes into it that I had quietened my breathing so I could listen to every word in stillness. Extremely powerful episode
That young actor deserves an award. The director focusing on him the whole time was an incredible choice which fit the technique to the emotional subject matter. wow.
Yeah that episode was incredible. The slow zooming which lasted 30 minutes right into Erik's face all for it to finish with a questionable look that he gave Leslie. It was perfect!
This trial was really a big deal at the time. People really discounted the sexual abuse of them as boys but I personally always believed the sexual abuse and fear aspect because the one brother seemed quite arrogant and the other was very quiet. I dont think either of them seemed to have the ability to make up such a detailed description and death with the public reaction. People didnt talk about sexual abuse, especially boys at that time.
If you watch the second story. If you listen to the session with the doctor. That whole defense was put together in their session. Before they were arrested.
This show was an absolute joke. Especially compared to the Law and Order Menendez series that was actually pretty good. This one on Netflix was a disgrace
Erik's casting was spot on, they got lucky with how much he looks like him....kinda like Andre 3k playing Jiimi Hendrix, another damn near identical person who's ALSO an actor and 'top 5 in his craft-type' musician
I don’t think the show painted them as that they showed what everyone thought in that time they did think the brothers were lying and they did ignore the sexual abuse that’s what happened what you wanted them to show a happy ending where the brothers are let go and everyone forgets about it? No this is the real life case this is what the people did and thought in that time now it’s different cause we know all the facts now that we didn’t know then and this show is just showing how the justice system is corrupt and don’t bother looking in to the actual facts
They are monsters, I felt bad of course which is how the show producers want us to feel, but then I totally think they made everything up just to be free.
@@Kaynoellex My heart goes out to anyone who has been a victim of abuse but these two monsters killed for money! They didn't have to stay in that house they could have moved out and got jobs to support themselves like everyone else.

The acting was good sure it what held the series together but the misinformation is horrendous they painted them like some cartoonish character not even shedding light on the tremendous abuse or how everyone around them witnessed it , and making Jose not the monster he is was just something else it is a good watch if we ignore the inaccuracies

This show reflects everything that the boys were saying but their parents aren’t here to collaborate it. I remember this like it happened yesterday and I find this docuseries questionable at best. It’s a pass for me.
The sets, costumes, hair and makeup were top notch! Loved the soundtrack and how beautifully they portrayed the real star of the show, Los Angeles. From the sunsets, nightlife, fashion and homes, the detail was spot on, they beautifully captured all the movers and the shaking😅! B+❤
To me episode 1 and 5 were the best, other then that the series had some gay scenes that felt really out of place. Like the whole prison montage with erik being raped.
To those mad about the brothers kissing. Men might kiss their kids or younger brother on the lips to show affection. They're from an immigrants family background. It’s not very common in America, but it’s not unheard of. Tom Brady do that. Americans take kissing on the lips too seriously.
@@shayspoosay I watch the whole episode. I think he was just comforting his brother, given what they had just done. For me, it is not explicit enough to consider be incest. I would agree with you if Ryan came out and said, 'Yes, we are implying an incestuous relationship between them.
You‘re insane when you think the first 3 were strong, 4-6 not so much and 7-9 the best… 🤣 the last 3 were the weakest episodes, not as strong as the first few and Episode 5 was the best out of the show.
This is completely inaccurate and an insult to two victims who were abused by their own parents. It's beyond disgusting and so outrageous! If you are researching this case, please watch the trial, watch "erik tells all" and "menendez brothers misjudged." Shame on Ryan Murphy!!
I'm a huge fan of Ryan Murphy' s work, and this series is very good - Dahmer being my favourite of the two (Evan Peters portrayal was so chilling) , but the story of Lyle And Erik was also a great watch. I didn't know much about this case beforehand, but everything I had heard about it was about the story of two abused boys who were desperate to get away from their awful parents - this show definitely puts a different spin on that. The next installment of the series is about Ed Gein, rather than John Wayne Gacy.
The reason you think it's a great watch is not knowing much about the actual case or watching the actual trial. Ryan should have stuck with serial killer theme.
If it is, how you explained why the relatives defend them, or the new evidence proved that the father sexually abused others. On top of it, the brothers brutally kill their parents with a shotgun, unloading all bullets on them, defacing them. If it was about money, they would just shoot their heads and walk away, instead of unloading bullets
Obviously this video indicates that the show was accurate. The brothers lied constantly. There is even proof that Lyle tried to get ppl to lie for them. So let me get this straight..They lied about everything EXCEPT the sexual abuse. That’s when they were honest?😂 They admitted to killing their parents in therapy, but NEVER once mentioned they were abused. I would think that would be the first thing they would discuss. Idk seeing their parents ambushed, and obliterated that way tells me they are where they are supposed to be.
@@thaispereira7311 ABSOLUTELY! I remember watching it on court t.v. I have done my research. There is an entire book written from audio recordings coming out of Lyle’s mouth. They are sociopaths. And even if they were sexually abused they weren’t afraid little kids. They passed several police stations while they shopped for guns. But since the 2 victims are dead and the only “real witnesses to the abuse” are proven liars are convicted murders I think I’m going to agree with the state’s conviction on this one.
Idk maybe it’s because Ryan is a gay man himself and he loves horror 🤷🏽♀️. I see no problem with white straight men writing about white straight men in every other movie and series that they do.
@BrainPlot Just got done watching and I have mixed feelings. First off this season was nowhere near shocking and intense as Dahmer because well, they weren't Dahmer. This is definitely it's own different story so don't go in expecting it to be on the same level of thrill and horror. With that being said this season definitely has its moments of chaos and really disturbing stuff with the abuse and I'm absolutely not down playing the crime they committed. My main complaint is that there's too much screen time filled with lawyers, detectives, people involved with the case etc. rather than using that time to focus in more on the menendez family and what that atmosphere might have looked liked to live in. In conclusion it was good for what they had to work with, this isn't supposed to be like Dahmer the cases are totally different. As far as what's true and what isn't is up for you to think on and decide as there's a lot of truth mixed in with potential lies just like how it happened in real life. You will leave with more questions than answers. All in all I give it a 6/10. And supposedly the next season is confirmed to be Ed Gien played by the actor who plays Jax on Sons of Anarchy, can't remember his name lol. I have a feeling Gacy will be farther down the road as that was a really REALLY horrific and disgusting case and they want to make us wait and do it justice, not only for the audience but especially the victims, it'll most likely be better than any previous seasons when/if it drops.

Could not agree more with this comment. Made to be light-hearted and comedic; this is not funny and non one should attempt to make it so. Very distasteful
How dare you deny Californians the right to not make the gay community feel included in this film
Did anyone else find Lyle hilarious? Especially the part where he was getting pissed he couldn’t get any dimes
Definitely campy! And portrayed him as shallow and spoiled too.
@@feepee7884it was the 80s all the men came off a little campy lol
Hilarious show. Very funny and entertaining. The actor playing Lyle reminded me of Bale from American Psycho.
Not me, I was begging him to shut up.
😂
I would give myself whiplash every time I remembered this was based on real life. I don’t know how to explain it but this feels like a good Netflix show not the real life Menéndez case.
I expected the show to provide a neutral perspective, but it seemed to frame the brothers as either one being "good" or "evil." I also found the rumors about consensual incest and Erik's sexuality troubling, and the unnecessary nudity felt inappropriate, especially given the real-life experiences of what the brothers went through, so doing those unnecessary scenes just felt disrespectful…
The ending was also disappointing.
That's not what they did at all.
@@jessicacapriglione1919ik right?! What are all these people talking about? They showed what happened in real life people thought the parents were the victims the whole time I’m that 90s era but knowing what people know now we know they’re not the real monsters obviously the mom and dad were not victims at all they just put that episode with kitty and Jose to add dramatic tones to the story that’s it nobody feels sad for the parents here so I don’t think what’s what they were trying to go for
@@erenyeager3068 yes exactly the story was told through the eyes of the people involved and surrounding the situation at the time.
It was a very good performance!
The director focusing on him the whole time was an incredible choice which fit the technique to the emotional subject matter. wow.
i was blown away by the end of that episode. practically in tears. and then it hit. you never stop looking at “erik”
Yeah that episode was incredible. The slow zooming which lasted 30 minutes right into Erik's face all for it to finish with a questionable look that he gave Leslie. It was perfect!
Wow I just noticed now that you mentioned that it was a whole episode, damn that was powerful
The only "good" this series can provide is to widen awareness and motivate people to stream the actual trial.
If you watch the second story. If you listen to the session with the doctor. That whole defense was put together in their session. Before they were arrested.
The trial section of the show was definitely one of the highlight of this season and I'm glad that they went with a different tone for it
I'd agree!
actually, it's not john wayne gacy who's set to be the next monster installment but ed gein, who will be played by charlie hunnam.
Woah! Where did you see this? I love me some Charlie hunnam lol
@@vanerdyjust google it.I was surprised they chose Ed Gein for the next installment.Thought they would’ve chosen a woman serial killer.
That is correct
This show was an absolute joke. Especially compared to the Law and Order Menendez series that was actually pretty good. This one on Netflix was a disgrace
Erik's casting was spot on, they got lucky with how much he looks like him....kinda like Andre 3k playing Jiimi Hendrix, another damn near identical person who's ALSO an actor and 'top 5 in his craft-type' musician
I pity them so much and the show shows them as monsters.. i dont think thats fair at all
I don’t think the show painted them as that they showed what everyone thought in that time they did think the brothers were lying and they did ignore the sexual abuse that’s what happened what you wanted them to show a happy ending where the brothers are let go and everyone forgets about it? No this is the real life case this is what the people did and thought in that time now it’s different cause we know all the facts now that we didn’t know then and this show is just showing how the justice system is corrupt and don’t bother looking in to the actual facts
They are monsters, I felt bad of course which is how the show producers want us to feel, but then I totally think they made everything up just to be free.
@@Kaynoellex My heart goes out to anyone who has been a victim of abuse but these two monsters killed for money! They didn't have to stay in that house they could have moved out and got jobs to support themselves like everyone else.
Both actors were fantastic regardless of how accurate you think it was.
This show is so fake. Those boys went through hell. This show just adds to that. They deserve freedom. Recent allegations on jose menendez about sexual abuse will change the course of this case and i hope the boys will be freed. They suffered enough
The next season is not about gacy is gonna be about ed gein
My bad, thanks for the correction!
@@BrainPilot I was hoping the next one would be on Ted Bundy
Ending was trash seemed like they wanted to show parents the good guys rest was decent
The acting was good sure it what held the series together but the misinformation is horrendous they painted them like some cartoonish character not even shedding light on the tremendous abuse or how everyone around them witnessed it , and making Jose not the monster he is was just something else it is a good watch if we ignore the inaccuracies
Yeah they definitely leaned into the whole 'confusion' around what to believe!
@@BrainPilot exactly leaving it ambiguous to the watchers and changing vital details that might affect people who aren't familiar with the case as whole.
Only an AI would pronounce Jose “Joe say.”
Did Lyle really have "Girl I'm Gonna Miss You" played at the funeral? 😮
No, he didn't, but he did give a 30min eulogy, mostly about his father's success and being a good man.
(I know this because I just did a video on my channel about the whole case lol)😊
No, and it’s so weird to me that they decided to add in such an oddly specific false detail
Erik was unable to give a speech either, he was too distraught to speak
@@moistwrmonastring1017 The reasons why Jill left the case were blatant lies too.
@@xxwhispersxx2856 I didn’t get past the first episode because I got so mad at it. It’s so exploitative, I hate shows like this. I hated Dahmer, too
That’s a weird issue, I agree.
The show was awful. They misrepresented the brothers. This was shameful.
I want to know if Lyle menedez's hair was a wig? if that was true.
yeah
100%, and allegedly his father forced him to get it and wear it. No balding genes in the family so he likely lost it at such a young age due to high stress from the pressures his father placed upon him.
Lyle and Erik themselves have called it trash
Wait really? That actually happened?
@@crown6787 Yes…there is also a statement from Erik Menendez…they seem to be extremely hurt by the show..I mean can you blame them?? I don’t know them personally but I felt hurt as well, because of such horrible distortion of the real events…they have included so much disinformation, that it was hard to watch…I mean people can easily watch the trial and get more accurate information on what happened…how is that out of so much evidence, information, documents they chose to put all these lies out there…it seems to be intentional…
Hilarious show. Very funny and entertaining. The actor playing Lyle reminded me of Bale from American Psycho.
I feel like they should have kept with Serial killers theme In the series....but good series none a less 🤷🏾♂️
This was just dehumanizing, demoralizing, and an insult to the brothers, considering their lifetime of childhood trauma and abuse. I am very sorry for the boys…
Honestly the first thought that came to my head was the NBA card and how awesome a scene of them having millions of thoughts and trying to keep it together would’ve been.
This was a good show.
Yeah it was! Murphy's good when it comes to shows like this
Its out?
@@Explainedin10-n2x Yes on Netflix

I felt that way too. We’ll never know. No one will. It made me sad for the boys. Truly sad.
Wasn’t there another true story behind a adopted son killed his parents, but everyone thought 💭 it was his more rebellious brother. At first. It was a lifetime movie can’t remember the name.
Yes."Sudden Fury" (1993).
The victims brothers didn’t get justice than they didn’t get justice here the show was to afraid which is why they went back to potray lyle and erick as murderers
I hope they get freedom fast as possible, i hope the series could help them for getting remembered again about this case!
The next season is gonna be about Ed Gein a killer from Wisconsin, Charlie Hunnam who played Jax from SOA is playing him
The Actors who were cast don't even come close to looking like Lyle and Eric. I'm surprised Ryan Murphy didn't cast Black Actors to Play the Brother's
Ni the next one will be about ed gein
This show reflects everything that the boys were saying but their parents aren’t here to collaborate it. I remember this like it happened yesterday and I find this docuseries questionable at best. It’s a pass for me.
The next season is based on ed gein not jwg as they already brushed upon his story in the first season
Season 3 will focus on Ed Gien
Unless we where a fly on the wall by them WE don’t know if it’s accurate or not..
All they did was get excerpts from the trials and turn them into a screenplay. Big deal
I enjoyed this season. But I think next season is gonna be about Ed Gein.
Yeah it is, that was an error on my side! I think S3 will be interesting
what did the Netflix show get right tho?
I didn’t like it, so many fake scenes, and they did Lyle so dirty.
Are you not going on with the Chernobyl series????
Cassie Anthony should be this or American Crime
Names of actors pls can’t find them ty
The sets, costumes, hair and makeup were top notch! Loved the soundtrack and how beautifully they portrayed the real star of the show, Los Angeles. From the sunsets, nightlife, fashion and homes, the detail was spot on, they beautifully captured all the movers and the shaking😅! B+❤
To me episode 1 and 5 were the best, other then that the series had some gay scenes that felt really out of place. Like the whole prison montage with erik being raped.
I’m a kid in the movie
Ryan Murphy must be zesty. That is all.
does their parents sexual abuse them ? or they were lying?
Jo-zay? Seriously?
To those mad about the brothers kissing. Men might kiss their kids or younger brother on the lips to show affection. They're from an immigrants family background. It’s not very common in America, but it’s not unheard of. Tom Brady do that. Americans take kissing on the lips too seriously.
But Ryan Murphy wanted to portray them as being gay. He was making it out to be that Lyle and Erik had a secret thing. Just disgusting!
@@shayspoosay I watch the whole episode. I think he was just comforting his brother, given what they had just done. For me, it is not explicit enough to consider be incest.
I would agree with you if Ryan came out and said, 'Yes, we are implying an incestuous relationship between them.
The Law and Order version is miles better.
You‘re insane when you think the first 3 were strong, 4-6 not so much and 7-9 the best… 🤣 the last 3 were the weakest episodes, not as strong as the first few and Episode 5 was the best out of the show.
I haven’t seen it yet but I hope it’s not a sexualisation of them like dahmer was
It actually is. And since they're actually victim of SA and both still alive is very disgusting
oh there is…..
This show was good but I can’t wait for season 3😁

I just watched it. I thought they did a great job.
They are lying on their father. They killed their dad for the money.
Really. After everything you still think they were lying about the abuse. I sugest you research more about the case and not just watch the show
@@thaispereira7311 ABSOLUTELY!
There's another victim of Jose's bro
Episode 5 was a complete waste of an episode really lazy had to skip that one after 20min
I quite liked that one. I thought it was creative!
11:05 again, Murphy leans toward ANYTHING DARK/HOMOSEXUAL
Idk maybe it’s because Ryan is a gay man himself and he loves horror 🤷🏽♀️. I see no problem with white straight men writing about white straight men in every other movie and series that they do.
@@BozeDoesGodsWork i did not know that..that makes a lot of sense now
@BrainPlot Just got done watching and I have mixed feelings.
It's so cheesy and bad 🫣
Definitely a slightly different tone to the Dahmer series
Reminded me of the Giani Versace & OJ docuseries. Too campy.
@@WilliamsPinch OJ wasn't too campy, it was a good courtroom drama. Versache was flashy, but Cunanan himself was campy. Now this one is camp af.
