What do you think of the original movie? I'll be seeing the 2024 version on the day of release so i'm excited to see how it compares! *Speak No Evil (2024) Breakdown:* ua-cam.com/video/BG-SDoAJIgM/v-deo.html
The saying goes, "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." This movie proves evil prevails when good people let them do it.
thats a beautiful message. only wished the movie could've conveyed that better. Some people think it's a social commentary about Danish social cues, which is offensive at best to generalize or flanderize. I wish the movie was this theme but it wasnt. I have a feeling that the ending and motif of classical art they tried to make something deep but said very little and only confusing the wider audience.
I think this movie forces the viewer to keep asking "Why don't they react? Why don't they tell each other about the red flags?" ad nauseam. It draws out passivity to an absolutely sickening point. So it's like being trapped on a roller coaster and wanting to die to get off of it. For sure parents watching it have their blood boiling and adrenaline pumping, starting with leaving Agnes with a stranger. Is it a cautionary tale for people who don't have children? Is it about losing your child to strangers via screen time (the tablet)?
Thats not what this movie is about. They were not good people. One was a coward and the other was a hypocrite. Being exposed to those truths cost them their humanity and led them into the grasp of devils.
You know let’s just say they had let the evil couple get away with everything but Agnes is their daughter - the ending scene, when *spoiiler* When Karen cut off Agnes’s tongue, any parents would have fought like hell - you know last ditch effort, you can see that Louise had it in her when she wouldn’t even let Karen tell her daughter what to do in the earlier scenes, but I think after losing Agnes and seeing bjorn wasn’t able to fight back or didn’t even try, she gave up I think
I think the scene that genuinely fucks with me the most in the film is the scene where the young boy shows Bjorn that he has no tongue, trying to desperately warn him of the oncoming danger but he can't communicate it It's bone chilling to see how quickly it gets brushed away, how easy to convince that he was about it being nothing major. Devastating stuff. Very good film that deserves all of the praise it gets.
@@pohandrek8182 while he could, and does in the remake, I actually really dislike that. It shows that Abel is still a naive kid, who's scared of consequences and knows that telling someone will get him in trouble. The subtlety of the original is what makes it good. I guessed exactly what happened when watching the original, but was constantly at unease because of the uncertainty of it all. It's better filmmaking. The bluntness of the original takes the edge off of the horrible acts at the end.
@@catsuneniku agreed, i had no clue what it's about - i saw a few seconds of remakes trailer but turned it off because i didn't want to know to much ... then i saw there was an original and since danish movies tend to be pretty good i decided to watch it first (still haven't watched the remake) and since i saw james macavoy even for a few seconds i knew those 2 must be pshycos and i pretty much guessed everything else except for the stoning !! all in all it was a good movie but very frustrating and keeping you on the edge because of those phsycos
As a people pleaser myself - the lack of action by the characters is ironically triggering - and that’s because there is a possibility that this could happen to me because my “fear of upsetting” others would kick in and even suppress my survival instincts
Me too, my fellow empath friend. But In a world-now more than ever-FAR too full of NARCISSISTS (parasitic heartless users/abusers/monsters in human costume), it’s almost a blessing in disguise to lifelong ppl-pleasers like us…bc our species is now so UNAPOLOGETICALLY-& even disgustingly PROUDLY-OVERWHELMINGLY/UNBEARABLY SELFISH, GREEDY & ENTITLED in their awful treatment of whomever they choose (no justification needed, bc these sociopaths justify ALL THEY DO..as much as “adult toddlers” can “justify” all they say/do without a bit of guilt, shame or embarrassment), I finally have hit my BS limit 4what I can tolerate, & have never found it easier to say a magical new word-a narc’s most HATED word: NO.😊👍🤘💪Btw: if u want 2know if u r dealing w/a narc, just start saying “sorry, but no. I’m a natural people pleaser by nature…but with a stronger base setting also of “F w me or my kids and I will salt the earth with your remains”. I watched this movie thinking “this could never happen to me…but I understand how this would happen and it’s horrifying” This movie left m shaken deeply. I DMd the director/writer and told him he is a psychopath (and I mean that as a compliment). He was super cool
I was thinking this a movie that makes more sense as a critique of Northern European culture more so than American culture. I’m like, we already 50/50 gonna get shot knocking on the wrong door we don’t need this. We really don’t. Lol
@@brandonedlin2052😂 So true. American culture is different. We have the 2nd Amendment, stand your ground laws, people are more upfront and direct when they feel uncomfortable. For instance you would never force vegetarian to suddenly eat meat to please a stranger. Not gonna happen. 😂
This film reminded me of a frog slowly boiling. It's too late before realizing you're dead. Thank you for no AI narration and not hyper, fast and loud narration. Subbed for this reason.
I really loved this film, it made me real uncomfortable. I think it talks a lot about our social masks and how we aren't supposed to set limits in certain situations because it would look impolite. The other couple studies their pray and knew who to target, they were soft like bunnies
you know i was expecting gore when she said that. Many dialog moments which alluded to foreshadow but didn't go anywhere. Looking back, this movie sucked at dialog
It dips from people pleasing and meekness into pure stupidity after THAT incident with the daughter. I don't think there's enough non-confrontational energy in the world to stop you from, at the very least, going into a rage and/or threatening to call to police immediately. I understand the mother didn't even tell the father about it initially, but neither has the reaction they should when they do learn about it
You missed a lot of subtext. Her daughter only ended up there because she was to busy getting it on with her husband. She denied her daughters cries so that she could her fufiil her desire. Guilt kept her silent and doubting herself.
@@Craftedbywaltz Totally! It’s the same when Patrick entered the bathroom while Louise was showering. She did not tell Björn about it and instead sleeps with him, it’s like she’s numbing her own bad feelings instead of confronting herself with reality. Both Louisa and Björn try so hard to not make others feel uncomfortable or confront them with bad news. This is exactly what most people do in their lives and what eventually leads to catastrophe. This is an awesome movie.
@@henryholland-moritz6733exactly they provide clues throughout the film. The original filled me with so much rage and the end was absolutely heartbreaking but also so raw and cruel but what took me out was the last dialogue.
What can we take away from this movie? Let's not be so naive, let's not worry about other people's opinions, let's be authoritarian when necessary! If the father had refused to get the teddy bear, they would never have suffered the fate they did! Know when to leave a place! This kind of thing happens all over the world! Overall, a realistic movie. In real life, there is no happy ending in this kind of situation. People just die. At this exact moment, I haven't seen the American version yet, but I highly doubt it will be as courageous as the original.
This was a BRILLIANT movie that I will never watch again. Its just too good at getting under your skin. Like Martyrs. Masterclass of the horror genre but too horrifying to watch 😂
@@BrainPilotI liked the movie. Didn't love it. The couple in this movie reminded me of the couple in the movie Funny Games. A home invasion movie where they just did nothing and were going along with the intruders. Hated that movie. Even the American version. lol
@@BrainPilot How did you like the US version? This is one of 3 I will never watch again. Speak No Evil, Requim for a Dream, and Martyrs. All masterpieces, never to be seen again by me🤣
The Danish couple behavour is not so odd as we may think. It looks like it from the comfort of watching the movie. In reality a lot of people - even further - a lot of societies are taking an L just not to cause offense.
I was thinking this too. This is cultural. Compared to American culture this would never happen. We live in a culture where if "we see something, say something", we have Stand Your Ground laws, 2nd Amendment, were more in tuned to child abuse and molestation, hence the scene where the Mom willingly lets a man babysit her daughter or didn't speak up immediately when finding her daughter in a bed with a naked man. All of this most Americans would NEVER stand for. Just me 2 cents. 😊
@@Suchanda_C I haven't seen the American version yet but I am pretty sure they had to cut out some of the risque stuff for the American audience. For example the bed scene with the nude man and child. And the mutilation of a child. That is too much. I respect foreign horror movies more because they aren't afraid to go there with the taboo subjects. Everything in American films are usually watered down.
@@naturistfred The remake is not a social commentary against being passive the original is. Up to a point it goes pretty close to the original but the third act is completely different.
Maybe it's a bit of reaching from me but I've always thought the movie also had a message about victim blaming. Like they knew the audience would be mad and even blame the Danish couple while it's the Dutch couple that is in the wrong. And I even thought the end was kind of meant to symbolize the audience casting stones (as in blaming) at the Danish couple. Again, that could be a far reach but you often hear people put some blame on victims because they froze, like in the movie, or didnt do the right thing in certain situations even tho they shouldnt have been put into those situations in the first place.
Ofc you will be blamed if you do absolutly nothing to prevent bad things happening to you. Evil should not be there in the first place but that is life. You can still take agency and try to prevent happening. This couple was infuriating.
Bjørn seemed magnetically attracted to Patrick right from the start. As if envying his confidence and carefree manner. It felt like he went back to get Agnes' bunny simply to be near Patrick again. Both women never stemmed to like each other at all.
I haven't seen the original and I'm not familiar with Danish culture. Is the movie making a statement about a cultural value (kindness, politeness) that is universally held -- and thus many in the audience could empathize -- or is it pointing at this particular couple, and the husband especially, being too much of a people pleaser? Just curious if the original was trying to make some sort of commentary on the culture as a whole rather than individual meekness. For example, growing up my parents would often silently accept things they most certainly didn't agree with if it was coming from a person who held a position of authority, like a doctor or teacher. I was amazed constantly seeing how different American culture was where standing up for yourself is valued and considered a mark of strength.
no and no to the other person. while yes some do hold their tongue of others behaviors, when they forced the kid to dance and they got upset, thats the cue to leave. Not at night or the next morning. They accepted child abuse in front of their eyes and it shows that the parents really didn't care. Maybe thats why they let Agnes go so easily.
When I first saw the film I was blown away by the ending and the execution of it. I made my girl watch it afterwards and watching it again it was even more evident how all the breadcrumbs were there like you said. I haven’t watched it after that because it’s been ingrained in my memory so deeply given I have children the same age and couldn’t bare the thought of those events taking place 😅
Yeah i'm not surprised haha. On that second watch you really do see some hidden moments. For example, the part where Abel watches them drive away, he has such a sad look on his face (obviously we know why at the end).
People who 'measure' other people's 'reactions' not to finally 'teach' them later, on their 'weaknesses' but to *exploit* it any way to benefit themselves? This seems to be the, uhm *extreme* version of that! 🤨The title, *Speak No Evil* I feel could also mean, the victims themselves are too emotionally numb, therefore they are clueless to act accordingly😉😅
Yes but are Bjørn and Louise victims in any way? They both marched through it all like zombies. How can a dad not react at all when he hears a naked man took his daughter to his bed??
@@mandala314 Well...an explanation is not to clear on "victim(s)?" 🤨Were they *tricked/manipulated? That's blur, to them - the subtle/hidden 'gestures?* Were they harmed...that's the *victim part of it, as a result of their non reactions😉*...
@@HjeaThe execution was perfect. The males evil was weakness or cowardice. The females evil was hypocrisy. Both were too afraid to acknowledge or "speak" that evil and so in the end they fell prey to greater forces.
I also noticed that they realized what was going to happen, while they knew nothing could save them, because they were left at the spot where they can't be heard. They screamed their lungs out at the quarry to relief stress earlier that day because just because nobody could hear them.
@jenniferadam8052 they werent even armed or nothing. my mom was like do they have a gun? why are they giving up so easily? Their daighter is still alive they can try to save her. Smfh
@@Hjea Agreed. While I can see why the message of the overall movie is important, it is very , very hard for me to imagine acting this way if put in these people's shoes. I think back to reading in the news about two little girls from down south in the US, found to have been beaten to death by one of the girl's dads, out in the woods. These girls were quite young, like 9 or 10. It was discovered in investigating the case that the girls had fought back, especially the one unrelated to the killer. As in, fought to the death. There are other examples I can think of from the news. In other words, in most cases, humans fight back!
@@jenniferadam8052fight flight or freeze. “Freezing” allows you to dissociate from a situation. That’s probably what they were doing there, dissociating from the trauma. I’m no psychiatrist but imagine there are people who would’ve reacted the same exact way.
I was almost sick watching the new one bc I knew the ending of the original. Just to see from jump the Mom grabbed that knife I was like ABSOLUTELY!! Bc there is NO WAY, things would of went how it went in the original w me behind mine !
I just watched the US version and I feel this one is so depressing. However, this version made me rethink of many things, which will make it more memorable
The original is an allegory of the great replacement that’s happening in Europe. Unlike the US version where the American couple refuses to go out passively and fight, the Danish one willingly submit to their death.
Just finished watching this film and absolutely loved it! I didn't read any reviews and had no idea where it was going, I was just along for the ride, and what a ride! I have to say that I was SHOCKED by what happened to Agnes, it made me really upset, but I'm glad I watched it and will definitely give it a second viewing sometime. If the new film is just a remake, unfortunately I know the shocking ending.
Yeah I actually hate the ending. I don't care how much of a people pleaser you are, you're going to fight back if two unarmed people are trying to take your kid. I like the remake more
not everyone is the same as you are, you might live in a bubble. There is a lot of people out there behaving like the 2 main characters when they get into trouble. This is what the original movie is about, it's a psychological and thought-provoking movie, not a survival movie like the remake
@@Steg_The_Man like I said, not everyone acts the same in this situation. The parents just got shocked after their daughter's tongue were cut, they were frozen and didn't know what to do but listen to what the man said hoping he set them free, and you forgot that their daughter still taken captive, hence they didn't dare to resist the couple. The husband was introduced from the beginning a weak and people-pleaser, he didn't even tell his wife what he saw, after getting lost he even called the man and begged him to spare their life so how he acted in the end are totally are explicable
@@randalln3101 Yeah, he called and begged but did nothing to actually stop the situation from happening. It's unrealistic. No one's going to just sit there and take it.
@@randalln3101 I'm not even saying I'm a badass or anything. But no one's going to just sit there and let two unarmed people kidnap their daughter and cut her tongue out. Nor are they going to let two unarmed people stone them to death without attempting to fight back. Eventually preservation will kick in
@@Steg_The_Man there ARE people act the same way as the main characters had this happened in real life. American tends to stand up and fight back for these kinds of situation, but Europeans or Asians are more polite and reserved, many victims chose to be quiet and let things happen, they don't even fight for themselves.
they tested them the whole time, slowly pushing more and more boundaries and they did nothing. Didn't fight back. So they knew they could do whatever they wanted to them. They had to find wimps for this to work and they did. If bjorn and louise had shown any fight earlier, the dutch couple might have abandoned the plan.
I call BS. Americans sit by and impotently watch their homeland destroyed even going as so far to harm each other to protect their abusers and invaders. Stockholm syndrome on steroids.
Did anyone think this might be a commentary on parents who allow their children to be "taken away" by little screens? Agnes started watching the tablet about halfway through I think, just staring at it. I don't know, I'm just a mom and can't think of any reason for their infuriating passivity!! Good thing I watched this at home, I was yelling instructions for Bjørn and Louise to bite right through their jugulars! Kick, punch, tear, rip, you do ANYTHING to save your child in that situation. They walked past stones they could have killed with, get the keys, drive, find the law, ANYTHING. Also note they never communicate with each other about the red flags - absolutely maniacally infuriating. Agnes staring at the tablet ... She gets to keep Ninus her childhood friend but loses everything she's ever known. Loss of innocence by parental passivity & willful ignorance of the dangers of excessive screen time? (I'm a people pleaser but that disappeared after my child was born. Being selfish can be healthy, in putting your child first.)
The movie is a commentary of what has been happening in Scandinavian society in the last 50 years. The only acceptable men are those who are cowardly passive. People in general do whatever they can to avoid what is called in Norwegian "dårlig stemning" which translates to "bad mood" in English. This is the goal and the result of Feminism in Scandinavia. You have to live here to understand it.
Knowing the ending to this movie and the new remake is kinda fun exercise of two possibilities: Do you roll over and accept defeat? Or Do you TRY something? The original shows what we are afraid of what could happen. Whereas the ramake gives a bit more likelier, if tad bit optimistic version, of how it may turn out.
@@axelwust9376 that’s what 90% of people are and how they would end up in that movie or similar situation. It’s easy to have a big mouth in the comments

It was definitely the father's fault they all got killed. All because he didn't want to instill any discomfort towards his daughter over a bunny. They were already half way home!
Just done watching new version. My only confusion was what happened to all the other children after their parents were killed. Why did they not keep them.
It’s not about people pleaser, it’s about the fact that most people indeed wouldn’t fight or do anything when they are really scared. It’s always easy to say in the comments „I would have fought back“. No 90% of you wouldn’t

Just imagine the number of families they've targeted and killed even before getting around to this one. I'll rather die fighting 🔥 The parents are so useless 🤯 I'm so distrub but yes this movie did very good job. What I learned from this movie is that if you feel uncomfortable then overcome it no matter what!!
I don’t know about the Danes, but if they are like Swedes, I never felt an excessive politeness. Indifference, political correctness and coldness- yes. But never too polite. I have the impression the Scandinavian people have this behavior/mindset only with unsettling people, not with everyday Erasmus students…
i am at a loss to understand why this film was re-made just two years later. I have the original Danish version and haven't seen the remake. I have however seen the trailer online and was immediately struck by the fact that most of the dialogue merely repeats what went before, leaving me thinking, what's the bloody point. I can only assume that the only difference is possibly in the ending, which has to perhaps pander to the feeling that it is essential to see that the bad guys gets their comeuppance! If I watch the original it will be only to confirm my suspicions, otherwise I will remain sceptical about remakes, which I find seldom, if ever, improve upon the original film!
Here is a idea fight back i dont understand how you can let a man and and a woman unarmed lead you to a rock quarry make you strip naked and let them throw rocks at you until they kill you why not try and run after being led down into the quarry? "Speak No Evil" is a gripping psychological journey worth booking a ride. It was so good that Blumhouse Productions released an American remake this year. 🍿
Is that a culture thing? Bringing your family to a situation where you have no control and be over polite with strangers? As a Brazilian, I can't see it happening. At least not with a well-structured family as Bjorn's. I don't understand all this being polite at all costs thing either. I'm usually polite, but is that so terrible telling others something is making you uncomfortable? I get the movie message, it's nice and all, but... isn't it unrealistic to the point it doesn't even hit?

They were told "everything will be okay as long as you do what we say", and somehow Bjorn STILL believes that to be the case even after he witnessed Abel's dead body. Bjorn and psycho guy have a conversation halfway through the movie in his car where Bjorn says that he has a primal anger in him, and when he's asked why he doesn't let it out, he can't really give a good answer. I think the movie is making a commentary on social scripts. We learn them from our cultures and we can't escape them. I actually didn't like the movie too much tbh. I kind of figured out what might happen once they go to their host's house.
but in the end it ended up making Danish people look bad. I couldn't figure out the theme or messaging cause the movie was busy with ambiance and tension. It forgot about characterization and story (not plot which was on autopilot the whole time)

Bjorn beyond being a people pleaser is a self saboteur. He didn't want to be a sheep anymore. Perhaps he is living a very unfulfilled life and secretly knew his fate... he wanted to live life in the edge but worst part he did this with his family as martyr.

The 2024 remake was an unnecessary retelling of a movie that was already good as it was. Too Americanized/Hollywoodized for my tastes, made for a pretty generic and predictable movie. The OG one really played with your emotions and stuck with me longer because of how disturbing it was. 2024 is way more forgettable sorry

And sûre i was more happy by the end .
It's hard for me to fathom being as weak as the people in this film were. Sheep being led to slaughter.
@@ChibiViolin Well said!
This movie actually made you angry with the parents and not the villians. Very disturbing and frustrating.
Yeah it's a disturbing one for sure
after a while you start rooting for the villains since the parents are calling for it
The adults are all villains here. The kids suffer.
You know let’s just say they had let the evil couple get away with everything but Agnes is their daughter - the ending scene, when *spoiiler*
When Karen cut off Agnes’s tongue, any parents would have fought like hell - you know last ditch effort, you can see that Louise had it in her when she wouldn’t even let Karen tell her daughter what to do in the earlier scenes, but I think after losing Agnes and seeing bjorn wasn’t able to fight back or didn’t even try, she gave up I think
I think the scene that genuinely fucks with me the most in the film is the scene where the young boy shows Bjorn that he has no tongue, trying to desperately warn him of the oncoming danger but he can't communicate it
It's bone chilling to see how quickly it gets brushed away, how easy to convince that he was about it being nothing major. Devastating stuff. Very good film that deserves all of the praise it gets.
yeah tongueless like the father. 😂
@catsuneniku
yeah, but the kid could easily show with his hands the scissoring ✂gesture and point the finger at them - or their house
@@pohandrek8182 while he could, and does in the remake, I actually really dislike that. It shows that Abel is still a naive kid, who's scared of consequences and knows that telling someone will get him in trouble. The subtlety of the original is what makes it good. I really loved this film, it made me real uncomfortable. I think it talks a lot about our social masks and how we aren't supposed to set limits in certain situations because it would look impolite. The other couple studies their pray and knew who to target, they were soft like bunnies
Also once they entered the house for the first time, the other woman said something like "dont worry its gonna get a lot worse"

When he said he had feeling he was expressing his psychopathy and urges. Bjorn was expressing his need to be true to himself.
@@ChibiViolin all the same he found the boy dead & doesn't tell his wife.

@@naturistfredon a lighter note… how did they show in the American version then??? Yet to watch the remake.
Up to a point it goes pretty close to the original but the third act is completely different.
dont generalize because of this movie please?
Maybe it's a bit of reaching from me but I've always thought the movie also had a message about victim blaming. Like they knew the audience would be mad and even blame the Danish couple while it's the Dutch couple that is in the wrong. And I even thought the end was kind of meant to symbolize the audience casting stones (as in blaming) at the Danish couple.
Again, that could be a far reach but you often hear people put some blame on victims because they froze, like in the movie, or didnt do the right thing in certain situations even tho they shouldnt have been put into those situations in the first place.
Or solo trekking through morocco as a blonde woman wearing short shorts and a tank top with no bra.
Ofc you will be blamed if you do absolutly nothing to prevent bad things happening to you. Evil should not be there in the first place but that is life. You can still take agency and try to prevent happening. This couple was infuriating.
well, they defenitely deserve the blame, they were terrible parents and made absolutely 0 effort to prevent the tragedy, as said in the video
Bjørn seemed magnetically attracted to Patrick right from the start. As if envying his confidence and carefree manner. It felt like he went back to get Agnes' bunny simply to be near Patrick again. Both women never stemmed to like each other at all.
Be prepared for the world that exists not the world that SHOULD exist.
Bjorn is the real villain in this movie. I hate him so much.
same
He represents the coward. The wife represents the hypocrite.
@@ChibiViolinYeah. At least Patrick wasn’t a hypocrite, they’re the worst.
@@ChibiViolin So what do the Dutch couple represent?
I have the same question… are there cultures where you don’t voice your opinion even when you are radically uncomfortable, let alone in danger?
no and no to the other person. while yes some do hold their tongue of others behaviors, when they forced the kid to dance and they got upset, thats the cue to leave.
🤨The title, *Speak No Evil* I feel could also mean, the victims themselves are too emotionally numb, therefore they are clueless to act accordingly😉😅
you have a theme, which the movie didnt not convey or fulfill good enough. The execution was poor
Seems odd that they wouldn't fight to the death even though no one could hear them.

Yeah it was so unexpected and so dark!
The original is an allegory of the great replacement that’s happening in Europe.
Unlike the US version where the American couple refuses to go out passively and fight, the Danish one willingly submit to their death.

Love your commentary!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video
I get the movie message, it's nice and all, but... isn't it unrealistic to the point it doesn't even hit?
Falou fatos irmao, o cara é tão lerdao no filme que da raiva. Não é possível que os europeus realmente sejam assim
usually, the original movie has a higher rating on IMDB than the remake and this one does not, thx for the explanation
Yeah strange! The original is good though. I prefer the ending
I guess I’m being too logical when I ask for some kind of motive here…
I’m glad the 2024 ending wasn’t as dark as the original!
Yeah the movies entire message is now completely ruined and they turned it into a generic home invasion, so cool!
@ it’s okay to have your own opinion on it, not everyone is going to enjoy it like i did
the right title is "Useless parent"
Just watched the remake im glad I didnt watch the original and r
Prefer the remakes ending because its shows you want you should do and not to be a pushover and people pleaser 😂
That's fair enough!
I think expected happy endings kind of sell it out too much, too disney in a way. But for sure after watching the original, I definitely want to see the remake to get some revenge. I feel it's gonna be satisfying AF !
@leemoubay most kidnappers arent successful for a reason. Nobody just gives themselves up. How do you think Ted Bundy or the clown killer guy the fat one got caught? Cause someone escaped 🙄🙄
@@Hjea Really, you think there is more caught kidnappers than disappeared kids...?
Is James the Patrick in this version?
Wht if Jason Statham as a father character in this movie !! I’m just imagining tht version in my mind and consoling myself…
I just wonder to know what the fuck was the giant object near to the stones...
Bjorn symbolizes the white man and western civilization. Patrick symbolizes the small hat subverters and their invading hordes.
you are criminally insane. I dont what buzzwords youre using but you need to be checked in somewhere
Perfectly put
Bjorn is how I see many of the families of Muslim grooming gang victims in the uk

If you listen to the director in his interviews, You'll see, this movie is about much more Than the dangers of politeness. Bjorn Is an allegory for the Western 21st century post modernist. Feminist Emasculated male. He represents society's collapse as men of the west SubMit fully to wokenness and a gynocentric society. This is the director's cautionary tale. Bjorn Is every man afraid of cancel culture, Afraid to speak his mind online And in person. Every man who obediently sits down and shuts up the Moment he is told that he is Being "toxic" or mansplaining. As a result what does he lose? What
Does all of western civilization lose?
His clothes, All of his family, His dignity.... And?
Finally, his own life snuffed out in the most gruesome, humiliating way possible.
This film is a cautionary tale. When you realize that it truly becomes a horror movie.
He saw the boy drowned and went back for a stuffed animal!?
No he went back the first time ,second time it was too late they died
and never once tells his wife in the car like two seconds of dialog "he honey i saw a dead body" like what?!?!?
@@Hjeawhy would he? He was away and there was no reason the panic here. Unfortunatly their car broke down.
@@haldir3120because she wouldn’t have called them if she KNEW! Essentially him being a wimp is the exact reason they died!
@@ConstanceVanna did not the guy say to him 'thank you for the call'? As far as I remember she did not call them. He made it up once he got to their car.
Iron Man tripping in this multiverse 😮
I felt tense the entire movie the score the lighting everything looked dingy and I knew it was going to get bad I literally felt like I was wound like a top the whole time and then I had to walk out rate before the ending couldn't take it
This movie taught me, don't be a Børnn! Don't let people take advantage of you!
This movie made me feel so uncomfortable….. and ending horrified me….
Same here!
As an autist, I can totally relate to the main characters masking their emotions not to upset people. Because I'm trying to act "normal" most of time, not being true to myself. But still, I would have NEVER called them in the end, not after what he saw....
Just watched the original movie… I thought the Danish couple didn’t call… the host couple were following and then lied to the wife to get her into the car. Once they were inside the car, the husband just had to get into the car to try and protect the family… although he didn’t much protect at all. He didn’t even hit back in self defense… so idk maybe u r right🤷🏽♂️
@@Suchanda_C I will watch it again. But not soon. This is a kind of movie that is not pleasing to watch.
not all autistics like you? must be easy to rob you then whats your address 😂
No, he did not call them. They just made that up to get the wife and kid who knew nothing yet into their car
@@daniellappvp Oh ! I see. Don't remember it that well, but it makes sense, thanks.
The bunny was the problem
Incredible movie
Yeah the original is great!
As a danish person Myself i relate to that social akward politeness defence that Are showing throughout The movie but i must say i still felt like it was a bit exaggerated with how much they give up and give The dutch couple Another chance but Turned Out they shouldnt for there own sake i Think there is a difference between doing what you Can to Escape a dangerous situation and try not to make an Average discussion awkward or people uncomfortable with you but with that sad i have No doubt that James McAvoy might surpassed the original performance Better because of his broad resume of earlier performances of his, but i still felt like a Remake is a bit pointless maybe when The original is 80% or more or less in English and i felt like Blumhouse movies spoil there movies but i have heard that The Remake does go a bit easier with The ending than The original i would say i prefer The story of The original and the Actors of The Remake with still some Things change with The story a bit
thank you so much. Other comments straight up eat this movid up and think "Oh they're Danish thats why..." like no?
@@Hjea i dont Only see Danish Be like this but people in general around The World unless The people that Can Stand up for Them self but yeah i felt like there was a feeling in this movie i could relate to but still a bit over exaggerated for a movie that is very grounded, but i must say that i actually both like The Remake and The original The Remake Will Be more rewatchable for Me though because of James McAvoy but i still prefer The story in The original
this film just annoyed the shit out of me, the characters are so stupid.
It’s not that they are stupid, but meek to the point of frustration - which is the point. It’s very true that in the real world, that sociopaths prey on weakness and politeness. That there are consequences in not speaking up and standing up for yourself.
@@a012345good explanation…
@@a012345Totally. They're not stupid, just afraid of confrontation. Bjorn even asks him why they're doing this to them, and he tells him "Because you let me." He had multiple opportunities to kill or subdue or flee from them, including when the man gets out of the car to pee and leaves the keys in the car. He could have ran him over and fled with very little effort, but they just keep standing around, accepting whatever comes next because they've convinced themselves that what they know to be happening surely couldn't be happening to them.
He just says something to the effect of "you can't act that way in society".
@@IloveGorgeousGeorgeThey also kept waiting for someone else to act and save them, which of course never came. Since they followed the rules, surely nothing bad can happen to them.
It’s really a lens on how people fall in line in spite of atrocities being perpetuated and how certain societal norms are made to subdue people in ways they don’t realize.
Not sure if you seen the Australian show, Mr. in-Between. Reminds me of that scene of the counselor of a domestic violence group, railing on Ray about using violence. Ray retort that there is good violence and the world would have less assholes. It’s because people mostly avoiding confrontation and allowing assholes to act like assholes without consequence.
@@a012345 dude, I fucking LOVE Mr. Inbetween, it's legit one of my favorite shows of all time
And yeah I agree, this movie is sort of a reverse Milgrim Experiment, how far would you let someone go on you out of fear of a general perceived sense of authority? (Or in this case, being "polite")
The European civilization in a nutshell. Notice how the man who took Agnes out of the car when she was mutilated was a brown man (immigrant). The director really implied the end of the European culture.
Also both children are named after biblical names (agnes and abel). Probably the most terrifying movie recently watched.
The original made me feel way more uncomfortable than the remake. That ending was hard to watch
Not so Well at box Office it made 630 million on a 3-4 million budget
It made 630k on a 3m budget
pffffft hahahaha 😂😂😂
I would have never let the guy have my kid's sun bed. I'm safe from this kind of evil, at least.
I think this film is about Normalcy Bias
It looks like the family is American and the wife outspoken unlike this one. It should be interesting because in the trailer it seems like she’s suspicious from the start and vocal about it. Would be surprised if she left him to be 🗡️ and got away with the kid.
Dude this movie was insanely frustrating
Definitely frustrating. That was what I felt the first time I watched it!
I don’t understand how people with children could like this movie. I hated this movie with a passion
The American remake is better because this movie feels so unrealistic, nonone can sit around & let you mess with their kids like that especially towards the end it destroys everything. It really felt so unrealistic.
Had to skip the ending too disturbing I pretty got the idea certainly can't see them do a remake
Ending is different in the remake, I came here as I only saw the remake so I wanted to know how’s this ending was different. This ending is miserable 😅
It forgot about characterization and story (not plot which was on autopilot the whole time)
I watched the remake first and the original second, thought I knew what I was in for boy was I wrong haha. I prefer the original better, both Dads are pussies but at least Bjorn momentarily stood up to the dude fucking with him.
That was a frustrating watch to say the least.
I would of grave up the daughter to adoption after the way she was acting almost got them
Killed 😂
wtf, main character is foolish.. no one can fi*ht us ..
bet the character of the ilttle girl thinks about that stpid rabbit for the rest of her short life as a captive
Bjorn beyond being a people pleaser is a self saboteur. He didn't want to be a sheep anymore. Perhaps he is living a very unfulfilled life and secretly knew his fate... he wanted to live life in the edge but worst part he did this with his family as martyr.
but he couldn't kill himself by himself? instead gets a girl kidnapped (and filmed evident of the TV earlier cameras in the room) and his wife dies. Thats not a martyr
Not a martyr but a coward

The 2024 remake was an unnecessary retelling of a movie that was already good as it was. Too Americanized/Hollywoodized for my tastes, made for a pretty generic and predictable movie. The OG one really played with your emotions and stuck with me longer because of how disturbing it was.
2024 is way more forgettable sorry
