Dungeon Master: You are being attacked by a pack of wolves-
Player: Can I roll to boop the snoot?
Misty Ghosts what is this, undertale? are you trying to do a pacifist run?
.... can i join?....
Genius😂
roll persausion
@@miguelrimando6378
Count me in
Rolls 20: you hoop the snoot of one of the wolves, they instantly stop attacking you and lay down, panting. They are now your pet.
Rolls 1: the wolf bites your hand off, and proceed to maul you, leaving you in unconscious, roll for death save.
For some reason this had the feel of one of them videos you watched in science class that you had to take notes on and write about after.
Forral I know exactly what you mean. All that's missing is the stereotypical camera angle where the narrator walks down a corridor, explaining something all the way, then finishing their sentence just in time to turn and enter a doorway.
So true
"WRITE THAT DOWN! WRITE THAT DOWN"
except that this was actually enjoyable and informative lol

me, a tired ass dm: just watch this video, dude
my new bard: ok
*comes back*
bard: seducing the goblin counts as an action right
Difficulty: 100
YES I seduced a changeling dancing drunk on a table to dance with me and then grabbed him and asked what he knew about the body. Turns out he was enchanted to dance and I saved the party by seducing him with my charisma! I'm playing a teifling version of Heather Chandler rn, so I've got loads of charisma, and no intelligence basically.
I really want to play dnd but none of my friends wants to play
I seduced a vampire on Wednesday.
Charisma bonus
Watching with subtitles on.
*"I suppose we'd better get started then"*
*[Wizard noises]*
Lost my shit.
Huh?
Turn on subtitles
Lmao, I love when youtubers do stuff like that, cuz it's very discreet.
"[Wizard Noises]"
I was laughing 😭 I loved that part.

Me: General Kenobi.
Ah a man of culture.
Wholesome
Thank you, Bold One

This felt very like a short documantary.
documantarys are my favorite. Spelling too /s
@@peral9728 documantarays are awesome
This video was actually pretty helpful. I’ve watched some other videos to try to understand the game but none actually explained the basics like you did. My friends are playing d&d and asked me to join once. I did and I was a total noob, didn’t know what anything was or what to do. Hopefully I’ll do better next time.
Great video!
Bikaca V I’ve recently joined with a group of friends. We are all pretty new to it but the DM who knows much more is very welcoming and even helps out with rolls like telling us what numbers to use etc.
Definitely easy to comprehend. I've never played before but my husband asked me to join him and some friends so I thought "why not?".
Bikaca Art Productions how do you not get lumped in with the stranger things bandwagon players, I mean I do like stranger things but I want to play because I’ve been wanting to learn for years even before I watched stranger things
lol total noob
I love all the weird angles and positons, they're comfy and hilarious. And the intro was great! Also, brilliantly helpful video.
Your weird poses make me chuckle every time! It's so quirky, I love the light-hearted nerdiness of you and your videos
I'm going to run out of ideas for them soon!
U may have to do an upside down pose or quarter side pose
. Lol
Actually, rolling a natural 1 or 20 only affects attack rolls and death saving throws. While most DMs rule otherwise, you technically aren't supposed to be able to critically fail at picking a lock. This isn't to discredit the video of course, it is a great quick guide to D&D. I just thought I'd add a little trivia for interested people.
Critical fail at picking a lock should destroy your Thieve's Tools... you know, just for fun. :)
@@marcmarc1967 And the DM could also have the broken end of that lockpick suddenly fly back into that character's eye... :P
Don't forget for the lock to accidentally become harder to unlock. Now not even the master key can unlock it! Good job Rogue!
Agreed, this is a good video, but homebrew crit success or fail doesn't fit learning the basics for the game.
Yeah I facepalmed a bit on seeing that he'd included this common rules misconception in a video of the most fundamental basic rules >,< otherwise, a fantastically concise and accessible video!
These are quality captions. "Sword fighty sounds", etc. A+
"Hey Vsauce, Michael here."
Thanks for helping this dad relate to his son a little more.
I just recently inherited my Dad’s D&D stuff so this was really useful.
this video is incredible, not only because it's informative but because of the rediculous things that you do in it
thank you as always, Mark! keep doing what you are doing, it's amazing
Hahaha glad you liked it! :D
@@whiteamerican1988 Where is that anger coming from? Who hurt you?
3:33 Really, Mark? You compeletely missed a PERFECT opportunity to insert the GMM intro there XD
I just had a friend ask me today at work if I wanted to try dnd with him and some others. apparentally they are all new, most of them hardly know anything about it. I knew absolutely nothing about it either and told him ill check out some videos. Now I can politely tell him no thanks.
How did I not know about this channel! Insta subbed.
Welcome friend!
You know when the great Sherlock notices you? That literally just happened. Palpitations.
Agreed were have you been lol
I really really wanted to get into D&D and had never played, but this video helped me and my campaign so much! Thank you so much, even 5yrs later!
Most entertaining delivery, Mark. Thanks for making learning fun.
When I was watching Stranger Thing, and Mike, Dustin, Will and Lucas were playing this, I was like omg I need this. It looks so fun.
Should I start playing dungeons and dragons? I am thinking about getting because it looks really fun and unique it but it looks more complicated than most games and none of my friends like board games.
I think you should, me and my friends weren't too sure, but since we made a fairies versus nazis war campaign that lasted 5 months we really saw how absolutely ridiculous and fun it can be lol
Khaleb Robertson fairies. Versus nazis. FUCKING PERFECT
Yes. It’s so fun.
@@khalebrobertson9907 i want to know more about this campaign
@@thedipperdapper3806 Essentially it's set in Nazi germany. The idea was the germans are so powerful that their minds can't be controlled by the fairies, for the first time in human history. So there's a Nazi vs. Fairy war, with the heroes being the Nazis trying to save the human race from being "brainwashed" by the fairies. There were everything from panzers with flamethrowers to fairies with love potions they threw at you. It was a bit chaotic but honestly ended up as a lot of fun, they made it through the portal to the fairy dimension and slaughtered the fairies in their thousands. It was actually just disgusting describing the bodies and blood everywhere. At one point one of the characters Sadolf Shitler fucked a fairy until it blew up. Weirdest campaign I've ever run but one of the best at the same time.
god, this seems so complicated-
I wanna try this out, but I'm horrible at memorizing even the most basic things so this would be one hell of a trip I might just be willing to take.
Honestly same. It's just way too fucking much, and the rulebooks are not organized at all.
Yeah. Get ready to learn math all over again with D&D lamoooo
@@percussionfellow6168 the best way is to find a party where you’re the only one who hasn’t played & they’re willing to help you out. That way you just learn as you go along :)
The way you speak, certainly you're a good DM
"And that can have... Consequences!"
just found out w my friends the we play dnd and so they assigned me as the dm. literally just made a story where everyone is a criminal lmao. It’s been like more than 6 yrs since i played the game tho so watching this really helps thanks
Thank you so much!
My dad gave me a bunch of his D&D stuff and I can't wait to play ^-^
Dam very concise. Camera angle was sometimes a bit wierd but i liked the overal vibe.
Imma use this for reference to help introduce people to the idea of D&D
first 15 seconds and i feel mistified finally someone who can explain stuff without it being painfully boring. like i clicked on it and thought "eh, i wanna learn it so :/" and then it sounded so cooooool ahhh
So happy Mark has his own channel now! I've been wanting to play D&D for so long with my friends but none of us have ever played and they want me to be DM, thankfully these videos and High Rollers are getting me used to it!
Awesome news Daniel! :D GLHF!
This will be really helpful to me my gaming group brings new people into role play all the time and they have no idea what to expect. I'll be sure to link this every time now as a brief tutorial. Great video Mark you did a really good job at keeping it interesting looking forward to your next video
This explanation was really clear, concise, and entertaining. Other people's videos that I tried to watch were 30 minutes to an hour long and were tedious or confusing. Your video helped answer some key questions that I had. Thank you!
Love how you wrote your own captions 'thoughtful mumbling' 'wizard noises'
First video I've watched of yours. First thought was: "wow, that's actually a pretty decent accent! not many americans can do it that well." Then you spoke in your regular voice 😂
Wow, this was insanely helpful! I’ve been spinning in circles trying to understand all of the rules/ information and you laid it out in a way that was so easy to follow and understand. Thank you x1000!
thumb up for the row of One Piece manga
Thank you for your video. I have absolutely zero knowledge about dungeons and dragons other than its a group game and lots of people are very committed to it once they start. Thank you for the simple explanation.
Mark. You are the ONLY reason I am so into DnD! Great vid, cant wait until the next one!
Thanks! :D
Thank you for the immediate humour. I was a little overwhelmed at which video to chose as my intro to UA-cam dnd guides, and I’m so glad I chose this one. Stress has disappeared. I am in good hands. Looking forward to learning from your vids:)
Wish i had some friends to play this with, this sounds like so much fun....
Good ol' Deckard Mark, always on point with helpful info. Stay a while, and listen!
I love how you do this channel. It's amazing like you can tell it's edited but you leave in certain mistakes you've made and it's great BIG LIKE :)
Thanks for this - i had to learn quickly so I could play with a friend's D&D obsessed kid, and it really helped!
So much nostalgia I used to play d&d and WoW in high school ( me and a few friends were one of the top 100 clans back in 2009)
I only really play MTG, but wanted to start a campaign with my friends at school, and this helped a lot, thanks!
Me and my friends play a very basic version of DND while at Boy Scout camp outs. We use one or two six sided dice. Our characters are pretty simple, we just pick a race, describe them and if they have any weapons. Pretty fun and a quick way to pass time.
I'm teaching myself and playing by myself (I'm gonna use notebooks to keep track of everything) so this vid was very useful!
My ADHD is very thankful for all the different shots through this video!
This is great.
Found your other channel earlier, then I find this video. Excellent. 👍
Its great Mark! Im soo happy that last year Jingle Jam made you to create HighRollers and now this! As DMs our duty is to spread the awesomeness of D&D to whole world!
This video is perfect; short, informative, easy to understand. 10/10
I just want to say I love your video technique. this video was a treat from start to finish, your work is what I aspire to create and this is the first video I've ever seen of you
I recently got invited to an online DnD session by my friends. I've never played it, and I needed this. I pretty got the basics down. Thank you.
This is my go-to video to explain D&D to a new player. It's awesome!!
Thanks so much dude. My friends play DnD and I have to learn how to play and I didn’t feel like watching an hour long video lol. This was very informative and helpful!
literally when of the best basic explanations ever. gonna show this to my new players!
I already know quite a few of the basics, but this went over a few things I didn't know, Thanks.
In all seriousness though, I do love the small jump cuts you make to new poses and scenery, it keeps the video fresh without feeling like a long winded lecture that unfortunately tends to happen when explaining something in vid form
This was so helpful! I sent it to my friends who didnt knwo how to play, and they got the hang of it quickly :)
It’s refreshing to see a channel like this with your background versus the streamer with a bajillion video games behind them. Books not video games! ❤️
This is done really well! Where was this when I was starting D&D!
Excellent primer! I sent it to my players (all of them DnD virgins) and it helped a LOT! Thank you, Mark!!!!
Lol Mark, you're getting so much better at this. Was watching the first few episodes and was worried but you seem to have got the hang of it all and you're making some pretty entertaining videos. Good job, I like the graphics and the format
What were you worried about with the first few episodes? Technical stuff or formats?
more to do with the format of the videos, seemed a little hard to follow what you were saying when you were just in the same position for the whole video. Glad to see that you're mixing it up a bit though. I was going to leave a comment back then on the previous videos but I wanted to see how you'd do on your own
Good to keep in mind. For the news shows, I don't think I'll be able to do this kind of style, but I'll try with the others.
This is incredibly helpful. As I have no friends that are in interested in d&d my parents and brother said they would play. There is one problem, they have no clue how to play. Definitely gonna show them this video and hope it helps.
Fantastic video, good vibes all around. Thank you!
nice dude!
I'm loving these videos! I look forward to them especially. I think this channel is a great addition to the community and is really helping to get those who want to play some tabletop games into it. Plus the awesomely awkward house tour model poses are always a plus! XD
Thank you kind sir! Commented last week and you replied and this definitely helps.
Glad to hear it! :D
Super helpful and very entertaining! Thank you!
Excellent Work Mark just got my other half to watch it, I was giggling at the eccentricities the whole time and she felt 'educated'
Cheers x
Win win!
Completely grasped me from the beginning. I tried reading the book but I can't get it. You're good at this man
Awesome video! dMing my first game tomorrow and I’m frantically trying to learn as much as I can! Thanks :)
Consequences. Seriously though, HUGE fan of these videos, as well as everything on your channel so far. Really giving me the urge to acquire and play some board games. Thank you so much, and best of luck with the channel!
Thanks so much! Glad it's inspiring some board game love! :D
I can't wait for the D&D stream today!
So I'm trying to learn how to play this because a guy I'm seeing plays it. I'm already fairly nerdy with video games but this game has allways seemed super confusing when I've heard people try to explain it. But yours is the first video I've actually watched to try and learn and it was soooo much easier to understand! I love that its super simple and basic and makes what my friends said actually make sense now.
Thanks for making. I'm learning how to play and this really helped!
Glad it helped!
Thank you for another grat vidoe Mark :) Just got here after the HighRollers stream, a fantastic session as always friend
Thank you!
This was extremely helpful!!!!
Thanks for making this
This is a REALLY well made video and deserves way more views!!!!!!!!!!! I am going to link it every-time people ask me about D&D or a new player joins our group :)
Always been interested to play DND, this helped.
I love that you actually went with stream's suggestion to just keep cutting to weird angles
Happy to see you have a channel!
very concisely stated good sir. im sure it will help many a new DnD listener.
Hope so!
Great info in a short video. will definitely send this out to friends that are interested in playing but are scared of the complexity. Also nice taste in books, keep up the amazing work Mark!
Thank you friend! I do pride myself in Fantasy book taste. ;)
The intro is just-
w o a h
I was really afraid this would be cringey but tbh I loved this and it was extremely helpful! thanks for the vid!
This was really interesting and a great way to explain. Thank you.
My friends and I are wanting to learn how to play DnD and they want me to be their Dungeon Master so I'm trying really hard to learn as much as I can, this was really helpful XD
You really helped clarify the complexity of this game. I've been kind of worried about playing this because the rules seem very intensive, but since I'm playing to primarily play with my family, I could easily narrow down our games to these more basic rules. As long as we use our imaginations and work together to create unique scenarios, we should be fine.
Pretty good video. My only issue was the mention that a 1 or 20 on ability checks means something special happens. As for as I can tell this is just a homebrew rule that has become widespread among experienced players but in 5e a 1 has a special consiquence only for death saving throws, and a 20 has a special consequence for death saving throws and combat. Neither will determine if a skill check is a automatic failure or success since the modifier needs to be taken into account against the DC.
Me and my long distance best friend are meeting up soon and she has been talking a lot about this game so I bought her a pair of dice for the game (I know nothing about this game) so I came to this video to learn more and it helped me a lot so thank you! 🙂
Really useful video Mark! Will definitely help me in my sessions! Loved the start bit with the 'Old Game Master'!
Haha don't think super useful for peeps already playing, but maybe helpful in dispelling the scariness of D&D!
Only had one 2 hour session so far and it wasn't super in depth. But for what I've picked up from Highrollers and this, it's cleared a few things up for me. So cheers anyway!
After six videos finally one that gets to the point. Thank you kind sir. *tip my hat to you.
4:07 CONSEQUENCES!
When will you learn? When will you leran? That your actions have *CONSEQUENCES* ?!
That was actually really, really good! Thank you sir!
Great vid keep up the amazing work
