  • in this video I had the opportunity to build, test, and review carbon arrows shafts, and components from Toparchery. In full transparency, Toparchery did send the arrow shafts and components to test and review.
    The carbon shafts are 500 spine with a 6.2 mm inside diameter, and a full 33 inch length. I have to say I was impressed with the quality of the carbon shafts and the components sent to build these arrows. If you are looking at inexpensive arrows and components to build target arrows, these would make a great investment for anyone on a budget. All items shown in this video are quality, budget friendly components for your next arrow build.
    Also included were, pin nocks, field tips, and turkey feather fletching. All were in good order and worked well for the arrow build.

    I am so glad you turned me on to building dual fletching. Dual fletching has easily become my favorite fletching arrangement.
    You are using fewer feathers so fletching is 30% cheaper.
    I fletch 4-5” left hand feathers, with a 1 1/2 degree left helical offset.
    My arrows will easily self correct to archers paradox or string release within 10 yards. I fletch mine vertically inline with the nock , so any way the arrow gets nicked it is correct. Faster nocking, faster shooting.
    Worth experimenting towards smaller feather mass, once you are sure the larger feather size is doing a good job for you and your arrow builds.

      That’s awesome brother. I started doing this on a whim to see how it would work, and glad I did. It definitely does cut down on cost and your fletching go further. I have been looking for 5 inch fletchings with less feather mass, and have yet to find what I’m looking for. I had the thought of building or buying and feather burner. I think I have an old train transformer around somewhere. Any suggestions?
      As always my friend I appreciate your time and wisdom. Have a great day my friend. Best regards

      @@ScottWinters Hi Scott.
      There are two companies out of England, one called Heritage Long Bows, and they make many different acrylic fletching templates that allow you to quickly cut the shape/size of your choice, with one of those inexpensive hand held rolling cutters. There are videos on UA-cam showing how easy they are to use. Be sure and select a left or right template to go with your choice of left or right feather.

      Sig Man, thank you my friend. The build turned out well. They do not work with my horse bows, they present way to stiff unless I really load up the front end. Overall, they are a good quality arrow and components.

      Thank you my friend. Once I started dual fletching I’ve noticed the same arrow flight as three fletch. No need to go back. Of course to each their own, it may not be for everyone.
      I would at least try a few and see if it works for you. Thank you as always for your time, it is appreciated. Best regards.

      @@ScottWinters thanks for the input, I truly appreciate it, I just found them visually pleasing, and thought no reference to a cock feather could be a handy tool while hunting if in need of a quick back up shot, like you say something I'd need to play around with, i just ordered the BH longbow in 35#, just curious on my arrow purchase,surfing Amazon can be fun but confusing lol, looking for something low budget to just get the feel for a shorter bow, going from 70" longbow to 60 " will definitely be different, I was the thinking 500 with some weight up front full length arrow, but not sure if thats the right choice,I've heard a 600 cut down woukdbwork too,any thoughts? My draw is just at 28, hope all is well and your day I blessed ✌🎯

    • @ScottWinters
      @ScottWinters  Рік тому +1

      You are correct, 500’s will work with some tunning. At 35 pounds the dynamic spine of the arrow will affect the arrow flight if you do not have enough grain weight up front. If the arrow can’t flex correctly in release it will produce a stiff spine impact. Try some 600’s full length and see what flight you get. Don’t cut down until you know how they impact the target. You may not need to do much in the way of tunning.
      Another thing to think about is which string you will be using. If using a fast flight string it will affect the arrows dynamic spine a lot more than a standard Dacron string. I had mixed reactions to the video post I made about this topic, but it proved itself out to me personally.
      Arrow selection is going to be a trial test for most archers. I’ve had good success with Linkboy, Top Archery, and Gold Tip arrows in the past. There are some really good offerings in the market these days. Not being a professional archer i do not get too deep in the weeds on arrow brands. If they hold up and produce the results I’m looking for there’s no need to be overly concerned with a name on the arrow shaft. I hope that helps you.
      I really appreciate your time! Your consistent comments and video views mean a great deal to me. Thank you for your support of my content. Have a great day! Best regards

      @@ScottWinters I feel the same, I a budget bowman lol, i have broke too many arrows to go seeking the expensive ones, I always felt a good archer can take the worst bow and still become efficient, it's the time,desire and drive put forth which produces a well placed shot, hunting or target shooting, i love both! Years back I only heard about high dollar stuff which I feel is leading folks away from carrying on this tradition, that's why I admire people using what can be obtained at a low price, it's kinda like golf, we could step up to the tee box with a new Callaway and still shank it into the next fairway lol, I know, I've done it lol

    These Top Flight Pure Carbon 33” shafts are beasts! I mean that in a good way.
    Part of my practice starts from 6’ (3 arrows in a dime size circle). I’ll shoot @ 4-5 dozen arrows each practice. Followed by 5 yds, 10 yds, 15 yds, 20 yds.
    In the 6’ all arrows are touching. At 5 yds groups are usually 12 arrows in 3-4” group. I’ll shoot @ 300-400 arrows a week this way.
    Lots of opportunities for arrow damage. Have only had one split the shaft near a nock, when I Robin Hooded an arrow, and a Vermil nock split. Great shafts in my experience.

    Built out these shafts in 500 spine, 33”, using Easton .244” inserts, Gold Tip EZ Pull tips (85g, 100g, and 125g wt), Gokd Tip GT nocks, 5” left wing shields ( 2 degree left helical offset) 2-fletch. 308g-359g total weight depending on tips.
    On my AF Zhu Ran (25#-40#) 37” draw) they are awesome.
    Love the flight in all setups. With Kathra all setups work great.
    Shafts are very good value.
    5” Gateway shields are poor quality control. Spend your money on TrueFlights. Better quality.

    Nice, is there a reason for using 2 fletch instead of 3?

    • @ScottWinters
      @ScottWinters  2 роки тому

      I honestly like the way it looks, plus it saves on fletchings. I do not find any difference in performance between the two. If it affects anything it's the amount of drag on the arrow and could possibly hinder how fast the arrow corrects in flight.

    Same with mandarin ducks arrows.
    Do you heve any video about what for size of a glove that fits the hand

    • @ScottWinters
      @ScottWinters  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you for the comment. For the draw weight you stated you could use a 500 spine. Toparchery has a great set of 500 spined arrows. At 33 inches long the arrow flight is great using just the standard inserts and 100 grain fieldtips.
      The string that comes with the bow works well, at some point though you will want to get another one for it. The stock string is an endless loop. I personally prefer flemish twist strings because they are easy to make.
      Please let me know how it works out for you. I really appreciate your time my friend. Have a great day! Best regards
