      @@ozanb9669 As someone who has been a Metallica fan from the first album, I disagree. If you like singalongs, the Seattle performance is fine, but for a first listen the studio version is the best way to go. Plus this version has Cliff. Not that Jason isn't good, but I prefer the album version.

    For my money, the quintessential metal song. As a guitar player, 1983 was the pinnacle of the old metal with Iron Maiden's Piece of Mind and the advent of the new with this album. Seek And Destroy was the teacher of metal rhythm guitar to thousands of young guitarists.
    Do you do Seek? were the first words out of every young guitarist who jammed with the band I was in. lmao

    Huge 80s Metalhead here. Metallica were my band from ‘86 -‘89 and then I pretty much grew out of them when they softened their sound in 1991 with the self titled album, which Enter Sandman is on. To be clear, I still love them to this day but, Metallica changed drastically in the 90s. The first four Metallica albums are solid from start to finish and are worth doing a track by track reaction. This is one of the first Thrash Metal albums ad of course Metallica are one of the Big Fou Thrash bands along with Anthrax, Megadeth, and Slayer. I love all four bands and if you listen to them you’ll understand where PanterA get their speed and aggression from. Seriously, man… start listening to this album from the beginning… Hit The Lights needs to be your next Metallica reaction.

    • @julianortiz4151
      @julianortiz4151 Рік тому

      @@helenespaulding7562, he’s basically saying Megadeth took the speed and aggression of Metallica to the next level. Dave Mustaine being a former member of Metallica was just as responsible for launching them and when he formed his own band he, in many ways, surpassed what Metallica did, even if the Metallica fans can’t or won’t see it. For my money, Megadeth has a more solid catalog an are still closer to what they started out as to this day than Metallica are. The last 30 years of Metallica’s career is pretty lackluster compared to the first 10, which is really where the magic is.

    • @helenespaulding7562
      @helenespaulding7562 Рік тому

      @@julianortiz4151 hmmm I know nothing of Megadeth and only a little of Metallica ( 8-9 songs) so I could be completely wrong. But perhaps those who prefer Metallica prefer them for the very reason you prefer Megadeth: You like the speed and aggression. Perhaps Metallica has more variety or their BPM’s aren’t as high on most of their songs? Some don’t care for speed metal Just a guess

    • @julianortiz4151
      @julianortiz4151 Рік тому

      @@helenespaulding7562, that’s cool I hear what you’re saying but, I’m saying this coming from the perspective of someone who came of age when Thrash Metal was coming into prominence in the 80s. It’s hard for me to not look at this through the lens of history because I was there. Thrash is all about speed and aggression. Metallica at one time claimed to be all about that too but then changed their tune when their contemporaries, Megadeth amongst them, more or less really started to push the envelope and write more technical and heavier material, solidifying what constitutes Thrash. Megadeth and Slayer especially, left Metallica in the dust. Rather than keep up Metallica decided to go in a less aggressive and radio friendly direction. It gave them wider commercial appeal but the hardcore Thrash fan base felt betrayed. I still like Metallica but, they’re a completely different band today than when they first started out. In that regard Metallica are an intro to Megadeth and other Thrash bands.

      @w.geoffreyspaulding6588 Рік тому

      @@julianortiz4151 I hear you. Some fans of a band or artist always feel “betrayed” when a band they love changes direction. Being much older than you, I have a long list in my memory of artists who suffered that fate…Bob Dylan being the first when he “dared” to go electric. Chicago was another band who totally changed their sound. There are many others.
      it’s a hard thing fir artists: They create a sound…..They own it. Eventually younger guys come along, and because they’re younger, they are faster and have more energy. The originator can either compete with the younger guys who copied them and become almost parodies of themselves, or they can go in a different direction that suits their getting older, and hopefully appeal to those fans who are also getting older and perhaps appreciate a slightly less frantic bpm’s.

    Good job checking out the studio version first, most songs come across better in the studio, although there are exceptions. Welcome to Metallica, man! Sure by now, everyone has explained their history and Metallica’s place in metal, rock, and the rest of the world. They are pretty humble for how…absolutely enormous they are. Music would be pretty different without them. And that’s not hyperbole, everyone started using that crunchy distortion after they popularized it, although other bands prior to them got really really close to that sound. When Enter Sandman became popular, even older, more established from other genres stepped up their “heaviness” in their guitar sound. Now when we hear that distortion tone, it’s been borrowed by everyone)similar to how everyone copied Eddie Van Halen’s solo technique and rig). I digress, enjoy!

    The thing I love about Metallica is the segues and transitions, almost all of their songs are multi part/multi bridge songs. Most songs are two or three songs in one.
