In a quiet offshoot of the Parramatta River, the waterway that flows into Sydney Harbour, lies a ships graveyard, where a number of small ships have been scuttled. At least one of these is iconic for being famously and frequently photographed and included in lists of abandoned places.
Our starting point will be on the waterfront of a modern residential community. We will walk along the shoreline to the point where you too can capture that very image. We'll continue along the path and into parklands which form part of Sydney Olympic Park to discover several more wrecks, each one morphed into a tiny floating forest. Along the way the terrain changes from landscaped suburban to semi-wild inter-tidal zones.
Sit back and relax while I tell you the tale of the young man with strong links to this area, who was separated by distance from a famous literary wife and his lifelong struggle to be reunited with her. If time permits we'll end the tour in quiet contemplation at the migrating waterbird sanctuary.
