So glad you enjoyed Liverpool as a Scouser we are very proud of our city The fantastic thing and the reason Liverpool is so popular with cruise ships is so many attractions are within walking distance or a short taxi ride Fantastic interesting video we all love seeing the narrow boats in our city Very wise to use the service of a pilot to cross the River Mersey especially with the conditions you encountered Enjoy your future journeys with Bunny

Ah, 1969, the year of your engine, was a very good year! I graduated from high school in 1966, just saying. 🙂 By 1969, I was blithering around in college and smoking too much dope for the likes of anyone. Gosh, there must be so much history in Liverpool, one could spend weeks there and not learn/see it all. Wow, you were the only boat in that lock. Ha! 🙂 Oh, so nice of you to let the young fellow have the helm. I know you got to sit up in the bow and enjoy that, but I bet he had a great time too, knowing you trusted him. Your videos are spectacular, Heidi. That last ditty made me smile, big smile. And yet, yes, in the end, it's the boat, the Rum Wench. Hooray for the Rum Wench & Heidi for taking us on the boat ride of the year. She looked like a Champ on the river, Thank you for the best video of an old narrow boat that’s not ready to retire. God Bless you 🙏☠️🥃
Hello , and welcome, my name is Norman , and many , many years ago I worked for the Manchester shipcanal Company ...( M.S.C. ) long after the glory days of narrow boats we would see narrow boats in Ellesmere Port Shropshire union canal basin ....leisure craft ....their owners intending to cross the river mersey , travelling from Eastham locks ( where the canal enters the river mersey ) across to Liverpool , the old- timers amongst us would advise against single sailings , advising instead to travel with like minded people , their narrow boats lashed together , four or five abreast , side by side , to improve stability, before crossing the river , some did not listen , and made it across alone , 😊 , most heeded the advice of old men , and waited for like minded people to join them and sail lashed together , ....😊
I would of loved to have crossed with others as I mentioned in previous videos but only 2-3 do it a year and it’s impossible to sort it … at least then we could have shared all the costs 😃🏴☠️
What a remarkable and exciting day. Bravo to the Rum Wench for weathering everything in fine fashion. Thanks for sharing your adventures. Be well and stay safe. 😊
Well you always open up by saying you are looking for adventure Heidi, you certainly found it on this occasion... Absolutely brilliant lass, loved it all, Stuart seems like a real gem... TOP STUFF.👌✅💕
Oh wow ! Heidi that was fantastic, I had goose bumps as you left the lock to go across and the music was terrific, your excitement was so tangible and wee Bonny was brill xx
Had to watch that, I used to live 50 meters from the Mersey moved house last year (couple of roads away😂)now live 300 meters from it.. I’ve fished the Mersey since I was 16 now 48, go on boats (charter boats) on it fishing quite regular it can get sketchy really fast in a sea worthy boat so you’re definitely brave to go on it in a canal boat 😂😂.. fun fact for you the Liverpool estuary & River Mersey has the 2nd fastest flowing tide in the northern hemisphere.. I’ve seen quite a few logs skim past boats I’ve been on at silly speeds on a spring tide, can get hairy.. at least you had a calm day.. The sand dredger Stuart your pilot was talking about is good for fishing when in Eastham, if you cast out after he passes he’s churned up the river bed so all the fish mainly codling (young cod) will be going after all the worms & crustaceans he’s just dug up making it super easy to catch after he goes past.. Cool vid just subscribed..
Well done Heidi and the crew that is an epic crossing and the Rum Wench took it in stride and carried you all safely across the highlight of the week for me and many more viewers, Ed 40 S of Vegas

Used tons of Mersey sand. Always wondered where it was taken from. When it was in the mixer you could smell the sea. Thanks Stuart. Thanks for sharing your crossing of our great river
15:04 I have worked around the Mersey in shipping for years, the sand dredged is sold to builders locally as "Mersey Grit". This dredging process has to be done as the Mersey has some of the highest and strongest tides in the UK, and the river bottom is constantly shifting, on most days you can see a survey vessel out taking soundings.
! I can't imagine what it felt like ! I'm sitting in my landlocked dining room and seeing the waves running along the hull is giving me the heebejeebees! Congrats indeed !!
Totally love this video. The expanse of the river is powerful. The locks are hugh. So glad you had your pilot Stuart. That looked to be a total adrenaline. 🧜

Oh sh*# Heidi, I’d have been terrified but telling myself the Pilot doesn’t want to put himself in danger. Good on you Captain Glen, I reckon I could have emptied that on arrival. You’re there now you can start to breath easy. Thanks Stuart for getting our girl over safely. 🥰
The river Mersey is a formidable strech of water that can challenge the most experienced seafarer. Its currents are so fast, you can be engine full and be motionless. Well done for making it across 💪
I will be showing this video to my auntie who used to have a narrowboat on the Shropshire Union with her late-husband. She also just happens to live in Eastham.

Heidi, those people that say you should not travel the river in a flat bottom boat, just have not got a clue. Those huge ships that travel the worlds seas have got wait for it...................FLAT bottoms. Bugger. don't let them anywhere near the Mersey.😃
We watched Heidi cross the Mersey on the Rum wench with captain birdeye Ruff waters with grey sky's, were so grateful everyone survived xx....Love your vlog s Stewart was very informative as was you as always best vlogs going.xx

It was so exciting, your amazing, we could see how much you enjoyed it, what a sense of achievement. You also had a lovely crew with you, we just love seeing all these super people you meet on your adventures. Thanks again for letting us be apart of your wonderful adventures. Look after yourself and little Bonnie, have a good week, look forward to next Thursday. XX
I have to have the engine room side hatches open and the engine is aircooled … the main cabin ones have Perspex up but if the water reached the side hatches it would have swept us off the stern first so all is good 🤣🤣
Heidi got her Mersey trip done with some of my favourite biscuits. Ginger nut biccies would make me your friend forever if they were served with a hot cup of tea. It's nice to see you enjoying life Heidi. There's a phrase my gran used to use to say 'If you want to do something do it'. Her phrase was 'Let your butterflies fly'.
Hi Heidi I think this is my 1st comment even though I've followed your adventures some time but I had to comment so proud of you and the rum bench I felt all the emotions on that crossing I was so tense when those gates opened but all I kept thinking was so on girl ... she's an incredible boat and I'm so happy you did it you sure deserved that rum. And what an amazing crew you had . Well done Heidi xxxxx

Its currents are so fast, you can be engine full and be motionless.
Well done for making it across 💪
You’re one brave woman, I’ve seen the current on the Mersey, it’s not something I would contemplate doing in a narrow boat!
Well done Heidi, one of the few :)
I will be showing this video to my auntie who used to have a narrowboat on the Shropshire Union with her late-husband. She also just happens to live in Eastham.
Oh wow, thank you 😃🏴☠️
You are a real inspiration Heidi. I'm planning to buy my first narrowboat and live aboard in the near future and watching your adventures helps me have faith that I will achieve my dream. Keep doing what you do so well. Thank you for sharing :)
Wow Heidi, what an epic adventure. From the fantastic Liverpool to the Shropshire union canal, loved every minute. I can see why the costs mount up due to everything and everyone involved. Looking forward to your next adventure.
wow that was amazing. well done x
Thank you 😃🏴☠️
Your engine is amazing. Wouldn’t have a modern engine you go girl x😊
She never skips a beat 😃🏴☠️❤️
Heidi, those people that say you should not travel the river in a flat bottom boat, just have not got a clue. Those huge ships that travel the worlds seas have got wait for it...................FLAT bottoms. Bugger. don't let them anywhere near the Mersey.😃
"I think that's a pair of knickers!" I subbed just for that lol
😂😂
Cracking video Heidi, got goosebumps as you went out of the lock onto the Mersey, which is a massive River!…Cheers for the mention at the end ❤️🐾👍
Thanks for coming to see me off xxx
@@TheNarrowboatPirate wouldn’t have missed it for the world x
Starting to flutter....I'd have needed full CPR....YOU ARE a brave wench! You go girl x
🤣🤣🤣
Well done Heidi , what an adventure and what great company .❤
The best! 😃🏴☠️
The Rum Wench, she is a bigg'un , and then we her on the Mersey. Gives one a true perspective of life. Take care and God Bless, Paul from Florida. 🛥🍻🙂

We watched Heidi cross the Mersey on the Rum wench with captain birdeye
Ruff waters with grey sky's, were so grateful everyone survived xx....Love your vlog s Stewart was very informative as was you as always best vlogs going.xx
Wow what incredible vlog, we watched you in disbelief, it was so choppy, we were both worried you might sink at one point. Couldn't believe you had duck hathes open going across.
XX
I have to have the engine room side hatches open and the engine is aircooled … the main cabin ones have Perspex up but if the water reached the side hatches it would have swept us off the stern first so all is good 🤣🤣
Congratulations on making it over smoothly x
Thank you! 😊
😮 wow! Amazing effort crossing that water!
Whoooooooooo well done going across the Mersey...
Wow! What an episode! ... The side hatches being open only added to the tension! 🙂
Aircooled engine, they have to be open … it would wash us off the stern before it went on the hatch 🤣 thank goodness boats float 😃🏴☠️
@@TheNarrowboatPirate I thought there had to be a reason!
Aww that’s a lovely phrase 🏴☠️❤️😃
Well Done Pooh. Well Done. 👍 🧢
Sorry typo I meant rum wench 😂
Aww thanks so much 😃🏴☠️❤️
Life's for living and it's just the same as going on a mini break or a trip to London so I wouldn't beat yourself up about how much it coast it was an adventure and that's what the rum wrench is all about.....how about other big rivers I'm sure there's more adventure adventures waiting for you both! And well done, Bonnie, too!
Regards
Heidi ❤❤❤
I don’t know of any others as big and crossing a shipping lane, but I’ll have a look 🤣
