      @@djcarlo Feature wise I believe the DDJ-400 has a far superior EQ layout (vertically) as do most DJ controllers but I feel like for the price of $250 you are getting what you paid for a DJ controller. There is no way the DJ Prime Go has all those built and features and beats the $250 DDJ price tag. Essentially with the Denon DJ Prime Go your are getting so much more but at a higher price tag. I feel like it would be for someone who likes having everything in one place i.e. the display and controller together and the battery powered portability to be literally anywhere and everywhere. For someone like me though, if I were to upgrade I would rather just get an XDJ-RX2. Much love DJ Carlo Atendido!

      I’d love to visit China and Japan and I’d love to live there for some time. Would love to live in China 1-3 years. Same with Japan, South America, Africa, amazon rainforest. Basically what I’m getting at, is I love nature and wildlife. It’s my biggest passion alongside music and if someone wants to gift me £1 Million I will go and live my dream. Antarctic here I come. If polar bear tries to attack me I tell him to chill the fu@k out and pass him a dooby. Make friends and chill. Maybe listen to some great music, together. If things go well, maybe I’ll look after the kids from time to time 😁
      I’m joking a bit but to travel the natural world is my dream and it really saddens me that because of reasons, it probably will never happen 😢

    Great review, thanks!
    The only problem I about this unit is the lack of an external effect loop. Having the abillity of using for example an external high quality analog filter, makes a big difference in the sound.
    And a minor thing that would have been nice would be a dedicated button next to the EQ to quickly switch between EQ/Isolator mode instead of having to go into menu settings.

    The Horizontal Eq is a small issue for "beginner equipment". The niche is the built in screen and the battery power. It is useful..When the laptop goes defective still have the screen. If the charger goes defective still have battery power to rely on. To be truthful most places you are going to practice or play at will have power sources anyhow so the battery power feature is a bit of a gimmick

Every single venue is different and these controls on a Mic channel are absolutely PARAMOUNT! This is about as clueless as it gets from Denon :(

    Although and excellent portable, it still doesn't have customizable loops for older tracks are off when it those older tracks, like disco, can't be on the grid. You have to set up your track's loops on a SC5000 or SC6000, since you can change the ins & outs on a loop (if you have one or access to one) and move that usb to the prime go and have your customized loops because the software doesn't do it either....

    • @djcarlo
      @djcarlo  2 роки тому

      Yeah, disco beats tend to go off grid since the drums are all live. But beyond that and a few other things, I'd say the Prime Go is still pretty well rounded!

  • @apexpredator_jku
    @apexpredator_jku 3 роки тому +2

    Finally considering adding a GO to my collection. Wouldn't be my first piece of Prime gear so no worries as far as hardware, build quality & performance. This would be perfect for when traveling, long flights, sitting poolside on vacation. I just find it odd that you'd have a gripe with x-fader & jogs. This unit was never meant to target turntablists. So why would you review from a turntablist's point of view? It doesn't even have a physical knob/switch for curve contour settings. That's like being so.eone disappointed that you can't do a 3 click flare or crab on a rotary mixer. Not to mention, you're a Pioneer DJ. You can say you're unbiased till you're blue in the face but at the end of the day, you're reviewing a unit from a direct competitor which is a conflict of interest no matter how slice it. That's like Steve Jobs reviewing a Samsung Galaxy.

    Great stuff as always @Dj Carlo Atendido
    I love the portability of the unit. Wish it had a little built in speaker but I understand that the space constraints would mean that it wouldn't have been the best.
    Another gripe I reckon was I wish the screen could pop up and be angled. But then again, with such a small unit, I don't think it's that's big of a deal.
    I do think the price is a little high though. Cos, you can buy a cheap controller and a secondhand laptop and still buy speakers for the price of this unit... I hope that it comes down eventually. But I suppose it is the price to pay when you want to be an early adopter of new tech.

    • @djcarlo
      @djcarlo  4 роки тому +1

    Those jogs look so small. I think the ddj 200 has bigger ones. Although I’m not hyped about that, the eq section what really throws me off is that price. It’s $1,000. That being said, this is a good standalone unit and that screen looks good. I’d love to see pioneer answer with its own 2 channel standalone unit, but the price tag kills me.

    Hey Carlo!
    Great review! I solved the jog wheel problem by using the loop buttons instead. Incredible. I have two concerns before going live is the Wi-Fi connection stability and mp3 quality using Tidal on Prime Go. What is your experience with that? I’d imagine the mp3 quality can be heard depending on the size of the club and sound system. Should I change to another provider like Beatport? I’ve been a vinyl dj since I began, but felt limited to the music I was able to buy on vinyl and never really went digital until now. Unlimited creativity laptop free is totally awesome!!

    Fyi / I Connected my SSD - ( Solid State Drive ) - Samsung 1TB External Hard drive to this unit and it runs flawless, Wow!, As we know SSD Are expensive, So I haven't tried a 2TB or Higher, But wow!, Our hopes have been answered, For us to run a 1,2,3,4TB On a Stand alone Controller is a big step! Yes Bye Bye Laptop, Yes we love our laptops, and I'll continue to use my laptop on my other Controller, But its so cool to have a Stand alone controller in the Mix. One thing I hope they allow us, I hope the make a App like Serato Remote - Serato Remote allows us to trigger Cue Points on a iPad or iPhone, The Cue Points on this Denon are to small, I really don't mind the small cue points pads, but I feel over the years these cue points pads will take a toll and maybe not work after so many presses, I hope I'm wrong, But external cue point pads will be cool, bigger and maybe save the life of the cue pads on the Denon Dj - One last thing, a Flight Case for this controller, yes for this controller, A back pack bag would be better and more mobile, But I can't wait to at least see a cool flight case for this controller. Cooley High!

    Personally I couldn’t do it if I was starting. Although it’s cool you can upload your music, it would’ve been nice if they gave out some kind of option for a streaming service to work on this device. Also, I am not a fan of the lay out and especially how the knobs are set up. Call me shallow, but it’s an eye sore and the jog wheels look like a toy. Again, these are my personal gripes but if you like it I do trust your opinion since thanks to you I am enjoying it with your guidance first with the 200 and now with the 400, and now I am waiting to upgrade possibly to the 1000SR to use tidal with it or just truly get into scratching with the Rane72.
