I have the mixstream and since I do mainly old school hip hop and classic house, this is the perfect controller for me. Im not really using the millions of efx to cover the fact that alot of folks dont beat match these days so the fact that its $400 cheaper sold me. Now if they had made it batter powered like the Prime Go, it would be a game changer. I always will have my SB3 and laptop in the trunk just in case but the fact that I can pop up in the barbershop and do a set, goto a friends kick back in the living room and do a set all without having to bring the DJ speakers is what sold me on it. BTW ive been in the game since 89 and have rode the evolution wave from analog to digital. great review

This video is pretty much spot-on. I have used both, and while the Mixstream Pro is absolutely an incredible value as an entry-mid level all-in-one, I quickly hit some limitations trying it out at a couple of live gigs. I returned the Numark and went with the Denon Prime GO as my portable all-in-one for most of the same reasons called out in the vid. I'm not a huge turntablist, so I can deal with the tiny jogs, especially as they ARE responsive, and my muscle memory is already getting attuned to the horizontal EQ sections. But those issues are a factor of fitting all that power into the size of something just a little bit larger than an MPC Live, and the fact that I can carry around a full-featured battery-powered Prime GO in a backpack is gold. Plus the unit is rock-solid, very fun and inviting to play with. I will probably end up using it much more often than I originally anticipated.
That said, $599 is kind of astounding for what you get with the Numark. The clean, punchy XLR balanced outs and clean headphone outs are features that by themselves take what could be a pure "beginner" device and set it apart as something to grow with for a while.
Either device, you're getting into the powerful Engine OS ecosystem, and I'm really enjoying that so far.

I love my Prime Go... I use it a lot for smaller jobs. My main system is Pioneer but the Go is making me consider going all Denon. The speakers in the front of the Numark is such a good idea to prepare tracks...I'm considering it just for that convenience.

Yeah. The MixStream Pro is definitely a entry level’s dream all in one. I spoke to a friend from work and he has interest in DJIng. So I showed him the Numark and he was amazed that this all in one is great for the price plus........ No computer needed! So that’s a big deal. I like the MixStream Pro for what it is. But your right Terry if your someone whose already been DJing for awhile now, I would go with the Prime Go. Thanks for this comparison video 👍

Great comparison. I owned the Prime Go first, but after purchasing the Mixstream Pro, sold the Go. Although a DJ of over 25yrs, I no longer do events, just mix at home for fun, and upload mixes online. The Mixstream Pro is much better for me due to layout and functions that I use. Completely agree with the use of a Go as a backup in a live situation. Yes there are some features I miss, but there are always work arounds, eg the combo of filter and echo, does a good job of mimicking the Prime Go filter B option, but granted not quite the same and a little more work to achieve.

I've had a Prime 4 for a few years now and LOVE IT! I recently picked up a Prime Go, primarily as a back up, but dang if I'm not having a blast with that little beast! I can see me taking it out for a lot of excursions, especially into those hard to reach locations where there might not be a plug for the Prime 4.
BTW... If I had a kid that I was teaching to be a DJ, I would get them a Mixstream pro. 😉

I can take it with me anywhere and when I'm just sitting for an hour or so waiting for my kid to get finish with gymnastic and dance practice, I pull it out and get some much-needed time on the device getting practice in anytime I can. The price may not be ideal for beginners but if you can save up and wait to get the prime go do it you won't be disappointed. Hi, thanks for the video. I’m a fan of all djay products. I own a Stanton SCS4DJ, with the 5.0 firmware. This ten year old stand-alone controller was expensive back then. For its age, it can play flac format as well as mp3. It’s mains powered and battery pack which a 12v 22,000mha capacity. I tried it and it has power for more than 6 hours. Effects knobs are present with parameters and wet/dry. Happy to use this for as long as I can. If an aux is required then use the Handy Kutz mixer, it has a battery, and an innofader. Another alternative to stand-alone mixing would be a Reloop Mixtour with an iPad. It’s also 12v powered so a battery pack would suit it fine and save space. In Australia the Mixstream Pro retails at $1199, same price for an Akai MPC One. Cheers

Spot on review! I have the GO and played on the mixstream pro the other week, great device but touch and feel seemed a little underwhelming however for what it is and the price, it’s a no brainer for anyone starting out. The jogs are small and fiddly on the Go but at the same time the resolution is very nice, if only they were a bit bigger but then I have The Prime 4 too to play with bigger jogs. I like the fact that I can sit on my couch with the prime go not plugged into anything and just prep.

I have the Prime 4 but am soon getting a backup - where I'm steering towards the Mixstream. Hopefully, I will never need to use a backup & so taking that into account, the cheaper Numark makes more sense to me. By definition, a backup will serve as just an emergency to finish the night or perhaps one or two gigs at most whilst you repair/replace your main unit. Therefore, I see things like fx not being important. They both use Engine & they are both standalones - ideal as a P4 backup. The Mixstream Pro may not have the battery but, like the Go, it does have the all important XLR out. The battery isn't important as a backup (for me) because I would already be set up with power in the first place.
The mic inputs are poor on both units but again, for me, I am not a prolific mic user & again, as a backup unit, it is just a case of pushing through a gig or two until your main unit is back in action.
The Prime Go was going to be my backup but the Mixstream has come out just in time to save me £400 😁. And.... the chances of being used as a backup are very slim but the Mixstream looks quite fun. As you point out, the speakers make it easy to just practice a quick mix or prep music on your SD without firing up your main unit.
Both are good backups & will serve different folks, depending on what they are looking for (as you say).
Great video Terry - as always. 😎🍻

Terry, thank you for your review! You killed it. I've got a Numark Mixdeck Quad and I love it. I can run 4 turntables, CD, or USB per side, AND it's 4 Channels. The controller has special effects too but that isn't as important as delivery of the music. It's 'ancient' as Numark doesn't make them anymore. I've used it hard at every one of my gigs and I've been checking out new boards because the last thing I want at any of my events is for my board to go down... the battery is a thoughtful touch...still not enough inputs for me on either board. I definitely needed your review. DJ GURRL

I have both… my Denon Prime Go beats out the Mixstream for a small event, or as my backup unit, every time. It feels a bit more solid, more compact, battery powered and has better effects. Yeah, small jog wheels (but just as functional)… the Go is still my gig preference between the two. So I would agree with your assessment. Given the choice, if you’ve got the $, the Denon unit is the more robust and the one to buy.

I have the prime go and love it. I like that it's a solid gear. This was a somewhat natural transition to the dmc 6000 mixer that I had for years and sold it to get the prime go.. The learning curve for me was the engine software..I came from Traktor and its my go to software.. Now, I don't do gigs like I use to but I do continue to dj and stay on top of what's going on and I'm also a big fan of gear, borderline addiction. This is probably the begining of what prime go started with standards in this portable dj controller segment. Lets what pioneer comes back with. We all know if pioneer sees this as a profitable market,, then damn, they will make a controller to counter. If pioneer wants to play, tgey jave to start with an aluminum case, not that plastic shit they are putting out. This a great comparison and really enjoy these videos.

I prefer the Prime Go for it being battery powered, having more effects, the Ethernet port for integration with bigger setups (clubs, festivals) and the AUX input I find useful...
But my budget told me to go for the Mixstream Pro so I went for it. Numark making a full Engine DJ experience for such a price was a blessing for me !
I could buy it and I know it will be useful for training but also for some gigs since it has most of Engine DJ's features andprofessional level audio outputs !
Plus it has bigger jogwheels, proper vertical layout for the EQs...I wouldn't mind if Denon made the potential next prime Go model a little bit bigger so it could have both of these too...
But, after more time and experience (and budget), I think I will switch to a Prime Go (if I still keep this idea of playing anywhere with the battery powered speaker I already own)...
Or maybe a Prime 2 or 4 which almost have the same features of a full setup (If I don't keep my idea of playing anywhere or just get an external battery to power the gear)...

  • @househeadspeakz

The one thing I am impressed by both is the idea of having a backup DJ system that is stand-alone. I wish Pioneer would follow suit but I'm afraid they won't. The only reason I may not purchase is the Engine Software. It is not in turn with Rekorbox and I am not sure if I am ready to learn another DJ software. If I would choose one, It would be the Numark Mixstream Pro. I would use it for home use and take my DDJ 800 out on gigs. That's where I am at right. I would like a stand-alone for my live streams and online show and won't kill my wallet.

If I was just starting out and didn't have a controller or anything, I'd 100% get the mixstream. I'm mostly a home hobbyist and I'm now using a mixer with a second hand sc5000, but if I wanted to play parties where I had to bring gear, I'd get the denon. Better construction and better looping controls are a must imo. Great time to be a dj regardless, though. So many good options.

I thought I was okay with using the Mixstream's pads in loop mode, but once I was in a live situation, it quickly became a constant pain to switch pad modes and pick the right pad(s) just to do some basic looping that the Prime GO's per-deck dedicated autoloop knobs would do in an instant. Hands on with the Prime GO, no such problems, plus easy access to jump/move modes. And then there are the fx sections on each unit. No contest, the GO wins easily. But I did like the paddles on the Numark.

Denon DJ Equipment is always going to be made solidly. They, IMO, pride themselves in bringing quality equipment to the market so I'm not surprised this is built like a tank. I still have the 2 channel X600 and it has a little weight to it. If that mixer was Serato ready, I would still be using it and would not have gotten the Rane 70 but I digress. The Prime Go would be best for the pro mobile dj and the Mixstream Pro for a beginner, as you stated. However, neither would be a bad choice as a backup and I would lean towards the Go.

I totally agree. My previous controller DN-MC6000 MK1 that came with Tracktor, has always been solid for me and it served its purpose for me putting out my occasional Techno/Deep/House mixes for my podcast. I have to say, it lasted for a long time as second hand. My only reason for selling it, I couldn't control one of the channels except through Trator. I still love Traktor so it was a no Brainer to go with the S3 MK3. If Traktor would've had their stuff together, there would've been more hardware from Denon to support Traktor. There seems to be a shift on all these companies making hardware for their software. Serato and Virtual Dj are the only ones without their own hardware..sorry. I went off on a tangent there.

Spot on review the only annoying thing for me on the Prime Go is lack of metering on cueing is annoying. I like to set the trim on a track before mixing in to another track, I’m more of a old school DJ who started on SL1200s. I use my Prime go mainly as a backup with my Pioneer but if the work picks I would consider getting another Prime controller. I would add I would have liked a midi out to be able to record from the Prime Go to say a computer, it’s lack of midi support for virtual DJ computer software is understandable it’s a stand alone system.

Yo this video was awesome I just purchased a mix stream pro before I found this video and I’m glad I did. I just gave my son my pioneer Ddj because I needed something a little more beginner friendly. Also The wireless feature did not make since to me seeing how my speakers need power to play. Any way great coverage for both of these players 👍

I don't know why, but it seem that Numark is the better deal and offers better quality regarding buttons, faders and so on.
It's a much cheaper Denon without the battery!

The review was on point. I’ve been looking for a back up and I felt that prime go was the one but the price always held me back. When the numark mixstream came out it was the right price for me but I felt that the speakers made it look like a toy or cheesy. I found a good deal 15 percent off and got it yesterday anyway. After using it for about 5 hours I felt like is pretty solid piece of equipment. With that said, will I do a wedding with this NO unless is a friend house party or something like that. I have my main system for that. Can this be a back up system in case something goes wrong Yes it can. About the speakers - it’s nice to just turn it on and start mixing or come up with some sets . They sound decent but as Cleveland says you can’t use them for a party or monitors.

Had the Numark for a while, and you can't even use the speakers as monitors at home. The controls are cramped and the space would have been better used for more pads and a longer pitch slider. Engine OS is good, but doesn't take kindly to pitching a tune up with key lock on.

@@stevenguillory9716 they both have odd layouts but I would rather have the Go. The Numark sacrifices ergonomics for the speakers, which are awful.. Plus the Go is pro level gear with the build and outputs. As a beginner you are getting used to something pretty idiosyncratic in both cases, you'd be better off with a classic mixer layout imo.

Yes! Looking at this after your review of the numark toy, I couldn't agree more. 600$ for a toy, too much though. They just held back. Could have been much better. A newbie doesnt need light controls, he needs to learn to beatmatch, give him the better pitch and proper effects. Those speakers are a waste of money. Everybody is really excited about mixtream pro but it's not that good. XLR out is not really that expensive. The dj industry manufacturers are just holding back to take your money. Maybe that is why people are being excited for, seing some features actually come out for the begginers like touch controls and xlr. Maybe if they actually let you control a software on a laptop it would be worth it.

I've been DJing since 1992 mostly on vinyl and recently in last couple years have done digital sets on an old USB dual stick Pyle Pro deck that's ancient.
I recently had a blind session live at a gig on the Prime Go. It's true it took a little getting used to mids highs lows being horizontal rather than vertical...a lil cramped and too much menu diving to get from start. The gig was outside so the screen was difficult to read. After say 30 minutes, I absolutely loved the machine.
Im a big fan of dub effects and now that you revealed the tweakable effects, I think I'm going to take the plunge.
So funny the Pyle Pro deck (no longer made) has gotten me a lot of props on my sets. Just goes to show sometimes it isn't about the equipment one has but how one uses it!

I’ll wait to see what used prices are like on the Numark but ultimately as a pure mobile battery option the Go makes so much sense or as a dedicate backup. as a completely battery powered setup combined with a pair of the eonmk2 columns I could see so many uses in the very small and remote events. However a usb powered ddj 400 does the same thing. I think the think that would completely sell me would be the denon sj desktop software being able to directly control the players. silly to compare the two The Denon Prime Go is just that, the reason why they call it "Go" is to satisfy users looking to use the unit in a battery only on the go situation. Two different animals, not a good choice of controllers to compare

Until another controller comes out with the portable feature its useless.
