In this video I wanted to discuss some things I wish I would have done differently when I first started my candle business. Of course, you never know what you would "regret" later on unless you give it a shot and do it!

That is all very good advice! Totally agree on everything you said. Don’t rush into it. Me and my wife have had this idea for 6 months now and 3 1/2 months of that was pure testing. We now have something like 200 candles just dotted around our house (all failed attempts, but each one got us closer to the perfect one) You can never to to much testing. The science also behind the candle as well. (Bigger container, bigger wick size) a very good video! Keep up the work and hope to see your Etsy shop up and running soon!

Nice Video! Excuse me for chiming in, I would appreciate your initial thoughts. Have you heard about - Chireetler Earning Maker Rule (do a google search)? It is an awesome one off guide for learning how to make candles for fund or profit minus the hard work. Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my old buddy Taylor got great results with it.

Yes it's so true when it comes to making candles. It takes A LOT of trial and error. You will need patience and some money behind you for all the trials of different waxes/wicks and fragrances. I myself have tried about 6 different waxes (yes it sounds mad) and have gone through many types of wicks and fragrances. I started making my first candles in September 2018 and i'm only just now doing my website/marketing etc. I've not been at it every single week though so it's a bit slower than some people might manage it. But you have to persevere if you want to have a good quality product. Some of the journey is fun, like the creative side of your packaging/styling etc and some of it is very tedious, like trying to get the correct wick. I also tried ribbon wicks/wooden wicks and came back to a straight forward cotton wick......hope it all pays off!!

I needed to watch this sooner! I really appreciate this info. I've been struggling with my wicks in 100% soy wax and not having any hot throw and it's making me feel very hard on myself for not being able to figure it out & find the right wicks yet. I'll get there eventually though, because I won't give up🙂 Your video on wax melts has greatly helped me also, I feel confident with my results on the ones that I've made so far and that is helping me to stay positive with candles. I absolutely love your videos. I haven't even started this hobby yet (all my Amazon packages come in on Fri), but I'm already thinking about the business aspect so I appreciate your helpful tips from personal experience. So question. When you are testing and things don't turn out like you like, do you wash out the wax and reuse the vessels? Like 6 vessels that are exclusively used for testing? And I'm guessing since reheating the wax would possibly dissipate the fragrance you would throw away the wax...

When you test wicks are you testing with unscented wax or are you adding FO? Don’t want to waste FO if its unnecessary for testing wick performance.

I’m not watching your videos chronologically so I’m sorry if you’ve covered this on another video. What did you end up doing with the candles that are already made but you’re not happy with the wick? Did you end up replacing the wicks ?
I either tested new wicks, or I used the jars for more testing (fragrance oils) I have soo many test jars because I wasn’t strategic in the beginning

So in my experience I can only use lemon scents in wax melts, if I try to use lemon fragrance oil in candles it ends up smelling like fuel 😬

There’s a few different wicks that will be good for multiple kinds of waxes! Have you seen my video on wicks?

It really depends on the FO (in my option) some FO need longer cure times. But typically 3-5 days should be enough! ☺️

Hi, I having been looking at coconut paraffin candles. But I can’t seem to find a seller who sells coconut paraffin blend. So I decided to blend them myself. I was just wondering if you could help me with the ratio of coconut to paraffin wax!
When do you add liquid Dye to the soy wax? every video I've seen some are so different so frustrating.

Sometimes soy doesn’t have the best HT(hot throw), some people choose to blend it with other waxes to make it stronger. There’s also different ways people work with soy to make the scent stronger. So the answer is both yes and no depending on the kind of soy wax, and how you work with it :)

And it just depends on the soy wax! A lot of people have better hot throw with soy blends rather than just straight soy. I use soy 10 and it’s been great to me so far!

In my experience - and I make cut and curl candles so its a bigger investment and learning curve- it takes differing time for everyone depending on previous experience and how much time you invest per week etc. I've spent almost 2 years prepping now, but I made my own equipment so its taken much much longer than it otherwise would have. I will hopefully be launching in another couple months.

Yes so I use two different waxes! One for my container candles and one for my wax tarts! I use TW-30 which is a tart wax
What wax is best for candle molds ? What soy wax do you prefer?
I’ve heard pillar of bliss or 6006 are good if you want to make candles into different molds, & I use soy #10 :)
Soy 10 is so cheap compared to Golden soy. Are the comparable?

Search for this answer from Dave Ramsey. I listened to his podcast and he said to stay as a sole proprietorship unless you are a "target" (meaning making enough money that someone would be more enticed to sue you like profiting $80,000 or more). He said going other that sole proprietor, its just extra money and paperwork.

Hmmm I would say as long as it tells the temp and can withstand the heat you are fine! I’ve never used a candy thermometer before though. I use an infrared thermometer now

I have no idea what a zoning permit is 🤔 so I’m not sure in the slightest!

This is glorious, I have been researching "candle making soy" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Cenadoelyn Candle Contemplation - (just google it ) ? Ive heard some incredible things about it and my partner got great success with it.
So both the eco and htp wicks are a no go?
I ended up switching the size and wicking down on my eco wicks and it turned out to be much better :)

They can help assist you with several of your needs including business name and setting up with your local city, state, and federal paperwork. The one I have used in the past was free of charge, and they all should be with how they are set-up

It’s pretty standard for most waxes 🙂 my container wax can hold up to 12%
@@MemoryBoxCandleCo but wouldn't that make the fragrance too strong? tried 7% and my nose hurts LOL
In some instances it could make it too strong, but that’s why you test out difference FO %’s to see what works best with your wax and the oil you’re using :) it’s varies greatly between waxes and FO’s

By smallest do you mean the smallest in length or the smallest thickness? The smallest by length are wicks made for tealight candles. And the smallest by thickness depends on the kind of wick (eco, htp, cd, etc.) It depends on how big the diameter of the jar is. I would search around on any candle supply website to read up on what wicks fit best with specific jar diameters and waxes. :)
Memory Box Candle Co thank you for all of your advice it is so helpful. The jar is just a 4 ounce with a 1 inch diameter. About 3-3.5 inches tall
Tealights are about 1.5” diameter so using a wick for tealights might be slightly too big. I’ve never heard of such a small diameter candle jar before, I would definitely search around to try to find the smallest wick you can that would work for that size jar :)
