    This has been the single most important thing I have learned with candles!! I could not agree more about the full melt pool misconception. Thanks for making this video! I hope more see it because you are correct when you are first starting out it is everywhere that your candle to be made properly should reach that half inch melt pool which is just totally wrong :)

    Question:
    can i put more or beyond % of F.O in my required vessel/wax needed For a bigger space such as the living room/lounge? For example, the wax is only requiring only 8-10% of F.O in the net weight of the wax (vessel)… can i use 12-15% instead of 10%? ( for a bigger space) thank u very much…

    You’d waste less wax by testing a wick halfway down. That’s a GREAT tip! I learned by my own mistakes not to overload wax. Overloading does not work. I also have just switched waxes and can’t WAIT to use up what is currently parked in my presto pot! I was in one group on FB that would NOT allow anyone to even bring up pouring at a lower temp! I got out of there because it seemed a bit restrictive. I’ve found other candle groups to be restrictive as well, so I gave up on groups. I honestly don’t feel anyone should sit in judgement of the choices others make regarding their candles. I make concept candles and I really enjoy it! I figure once I begin selling I’ll be able to describe the FO anyway. Thank you again for such a great video! I am learning SO much and can’t thank you enough, Ladybug! 🙏🏻🙏🏻💗

    I thought with soy wax that it had a “memory” so if it didn’t reach full melt pool side wall to side wall that it would never reach the sides, is that a misconception?

    I love your videos. I've been making and selling for two years. Im constantly learning. I have a few questions. I've always loved 464. But I purchased the wax melters from Candle Science. That does most of the work. It has 3 cycles. Do you have any advice for those. I've never made candles from my stove or really had to stir the mixture myself. Or have you ever used one of these automatic wax melters??
    By the way I'm in Texas so when the hotter months get here like they are now I switch to 444.

    I Love your videos! they are so informal.
    have you worked with 464 wax? I did a cold throw around 130F and it has a stronger scent than 180F. I'm still not satisfied with the scent :( any recommendations? Im also doing 1 pound of wax an 1 ounce of fragrance oil should I add more fragrance oil?

      I haven’t worked with 464 wax before, but if you’re doing 1lb-1oz you’re only doing 6.5% FO. Check out this video I made a little while ago, I hope it helps you :)

    This might be a super obvious answer but I’m curious your opinion - do you think each series of candles should be grouped together when u sell them or do u have multiple series going at one time?

  • @SookieStackh0use
    @SookieStackh0use 3 роки тому

    Okay but here’s what I don’t understand is that for example, a company like bath and body works, that makes 100% soy candles, does get a full melt pool on the first burn all the time and it is a practice that is even encouraged because it will deter the candle from potentially tunneling further down the burn of the candle. So I’m just confused about hot to reconcile this difference because i do think they have good quality candles so I’m just hesitant to do something different than that. Can you explain further please?

    Hi, I'm just getting into candle making, so excuse me if this is a dumb question, but how exactly do you test your wick halfway through a jar?

    • @MemoryBoxCandleCo
      @MemoryBoxCandleCo  4 роки тому +3

      You make a candle and only fill it halfway, as soon as it’s cured you light it and you are now testing halfway through the jar :)

    • @adriannaroldan8579
      @adriannaroldan8579 4 роки тому

      @@MemoryBoxCandleCo I'm sorry I have so many questions about this, but wouldn't that ultimately ruin the wick since you would have to cut the wick to the middle of the jar? Wouldn't this also burn the fragrance from this layer of the candle?
      Thank you so much for your responses, in advance.

    • @MemoryBoxCandleCo
      @MemoryBoxCandleCo  4 роки тому +1

      Adrianna Roldan no no not at all! Essentially you would just be filling up the jar half way (it won’t affect the performance or anything) and cutting the wick at that point won’t affect anything either :)

    Can you clarify on the whole melt pool thing. A full melt pool is when the wax has melted all the way across the diameter of the jar correct? You’re saying you don’t like to achieve a full melt pool on the first burn which is ~4 hours? But I thought when you light a candle you want it to reach a full melt pool before you blow it out so that you don’t create tunneling and the wax along the sides of the jar continue to melt down as you burn. So realistically how would you not get a full melt pool in the first burn?

    • @MemoryBoxCandleCo
      @MemoryBoxCandleCo  3 роки тому

      So the thought process behind not wanting to get a full melt pool right away is that, the candle will burn hotter toward the bottom of the jar, so if the wicks burn hot even in the beginning to create a full melt then it will be too hot as it burns down lower in the candle.
      Now this is where the tricky part comes in because you don’t want to have a wick that’s obviously waay too small to where it tunnels. But you want it to Almost reach full melt pool within 4 hours. The lower it burns the hotter it will get and it will eventually melt down all the sides into an even burn as it burns down.

  • @Jules-sn9nc
    @Jules-sn9nc 4 роки тому

    Hello :) just wanted to ask if you wick down like you are saying and do not create a full melt pool the first couple of burns, wouldn't this create tunneling?

    • @MemoryBoxCandleCo
      @MemoryBoxCandleCo  4 роки тому

      It very well could! But not always, It depends on the jar, the wax, the wick. That’s why it’s best to test it and see how it performs :)

  • @bril5018
    @bril5018 4 роки тому +2

    I use soy 464 and my first burn gets a full melt by 3 hrs. That means my wick is too big? I use wooden wicks. Should I go down in wick width?
