If you locate the isolated bass track, you’ll find that Jones hits the same open D and E strings during the main riff, as Jim does. Those little triplets too during the avant-garde part I finally recognized with this isolated track! I never could identify what those little noises were! It was Mr. Jones all along.
Correct he hits both strings and truly mirrors Jimmy's riff. I love the way he plays the percussive beasts against the beat, he goes for it without hesitation! Thanks for watching man! Stay tuned for Episode 2!
Thank you Jose for this wonderful deep dive. The subtle A to A flat motif was something that I thought was filled by Jones on the bass. Thank you for isolating the guitar tracks and guiding us to what was actually played versus what we perceive as being played. For a part 2 (or 3) it would be great to go deeper through the evolution of the live riff with the culmination of the Knebworth variation.
Glad you found this information helpful. The subtle A to A Flat motif really adds that extra boost that turns the RIFF into the magical ending we love so much. I will cover the Knebworth bit in full on Episode 2 :)
Glad you enjoyed the sarcastic undertone of some of the explanation hehehe, the educational institution bit had ME laughing while i was writing the script.
Many years ago I sat behind Bonzos green sparkle Ludwig kit on stage in Melbourne, while the roadies were still setting up their gear. A mate took a photo of me, at 18, air drumming w sunglasses and no shirt on, and thru this photo Ive spent time with Robert, Jimmy and Jason, who told me there are no other photos of anyone else behind Mr Bonhams, green canons,. So Ive taken a very special interest in Led Zeps legend ever since, and as a gigging drummer, tried to create the Bonham kit sound using several of my vintage Ludwig 26in bass drum kits and vintage Paiste Giant Beat and 2002 cymbals.,,,,,,his trademark sound. In the past 12 months, Ive passionately studied your JCM Zeppelin vids more than most other You Tube footage I see. And Ive rarely found an error in them, so I was surprised to find one in this magnificent pt 1 for WLL. You see, I remember in 1969 aged just 15, when I first heard Whole Lotta Love making Lots of Love to my eardrums and inner soul on the radio, I heard the chorus,,,,,,,Wanna Whole Lotta Love?,,,,,,,,, repeated brilliantly. Which all made perfect seductive sense knowing Robert and Jimmy were singing it in rare harmony to all the lovely ladies listening. Hahaha! So I was surprised to see you include some different lyrics for the chorus here when there are several online sites with the actual lyrics,,,,,,,,,, Youve shown them as:- Want to Whole Lotta love,,,,,,,,, and Robert and Jimmy audibly dont sing that. You can hear them sing,,,,, Wanna Whole Lotta Love,,,,,,,,which has a different meaning.,,,,,,,The rest of this doco is spot on and amazing!!,,,,,,,,,,.So I would respectfully suggest you change this because Im sure many fans will be thinking the same thing I am,,,,,,,,, Lets get it right!! Lol. And thanks eternally for ALL your monk-like Hard Rock, hard work which Jimmy, Robert and Jonesy must watch with absolute fascination. Have you had any feedback from them on your posts yet Jose?
First off i thank you for watching and the fact you have THAT picture of Bonzo's drums is nothing short of amazing. Want to Whole Lotta Love may seem like an error, conceptually it isn't. Yes we hear Wanna Whole Lotta Love, but the lyrics did reference Want to, thus WANNA became the fitting phrasing on the actual track. So this is why i didn't put Wanna in here, as you know i am obsessed with details so i hope this explains it. I have not received any feedback from the Zepp Camp but of course if i did i'd be honored and my only hope is they understand i am a musician who truly admires their work with no interest in the clickbait gossip frequently found on UA-cam and Professor of Rock's staff of writers ...you know what i mean :)
I thought it was “Want a Whole Lotta Love” which sounds like Wanna … Wanna… Lotta… Wanna is informal speech for Want to and Lotta is informal speech (although also a dictionary word) for Lot of. I think though if the lyric was written in non-casual language it would come out as “Want a whole lot of love?”… not Want to, because “Want to whole lot of love?” somehow doesn’t work as well grammatically. One reason I say that, and it gives a different meaning is when you use “a” instead of “to” then what follows is a noun. So what ‘big thing’ does he want to give her… this is how I saw it. Hey I’m no language professor, so I could of course be off. I’ll leave it there…
Interesting stuff. You mentioned that Led Zeppelin made a “single?” I never knew they actually made one. I read somewhere that they made an agreement with each other, that they would never produce a single. I’m not trying to refute your knowledge or research. You’re the man on this.
@@lifelongfan07 No. I think it was a different distribution contract in America. Or Zep didn't care because it was America and they cared more about Britain. 30 years ago I knew Zeppelin history like the back of my hand. But now I'm struggling to recall something simple like this. The truth might be a combination of they two.
Lets agree on some of the protocol when playing Whole Lotta Love. You MUST play the laugh LOUD when it begins. You must also have either headphones on (I'm talking real headphones) or you must be within a speaker arrangement where the switches can be felt! You must play the fade-out to it's entirety, and if you have a SOUL, you will let it continue into What is and What Should Never Be. You've come this far, let The Lemon Song roll on too! Damn! Now I gotta listen to side1, I'll be back! You always do this to me Jose!!!
Oh yes, real headphones are required. Absolutely, once you play this....you HAVE to keep on playing the ENTIRE ALBUM right? hahah. Can't get enough of these sounds! Thanks for watching man! Stay tuned for Episode 2!
Thanks Jose! Busy week here, finally gave this video 100% attention- wonderful video as ever! I was happy to see my Patreon payment going out to you today! You deserve to be paid for your great work here! 🤗
This was a really fun episode Jose. I loved your interpretation of the lyrics. 😂 Just brilliant. I got the Kramer connection in the middle-section just before you pointed it out. I never thought of that before, but you’re correct about Hendrix’s “1983 A Merman etc” and the middle section of Whole Lot Of Love.
Haha, glad you enjoyed my "serious" analysis of the lyrics, i was laughing as i wrote the script and i plan do that with all of Zepp's lyrics at one point in the style of SNL's Jack Handey from the 90s. Thank YOU so much for your support man, always. Electric Ladyland is a KILLER ALBUM!
This is Rock! Your love for the music and the research makes this rockumentary a work touched by greatness!! Rick Beato should be interviewing you! People wonder that Page, Beck, Clapton and Blackmore lived so close, but then there's Marriott, the Stones and those who peaked later in the early 70's and the Birmingham/Midlands connections with Sabbath, Slade and a roadie called Lemmy.
Imagine an interview with Mr. Beato, i'd be honored and would probably start off by saying i have 60 copies of In Through the Out Door haha. I agree the Birmingham Midlands region was VITAL to rock and roll to say the least!
I remember when the song came out, and I was only 3! I heard it a lot in the car with my folks, the AM radio edit. First time I heard the complete version, it blew my mind!!
Jimmy Page, was a musical Genius! The likes of Mozart & Beethoven... And it makes me wonder... what would Jimmy's Opera or a classical masterpiece sound like? 😮
Do you think if we asked Jimmy to write a concerto? if his public asked him as a last major contribution to the classical music world. "A definitive classical musical statement from the mind of a great composer." His final act??? Would it? Should it? It would be very interesting?
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories do you think Jimmy would write a classical composition if it were requested by his loyal and lifelong fans?? I guarantee Jimmy would make millions if not a billion!
I don't think Jimmy could write a concerto because that is not the kind of creative mind he has, and it's not downplaying his skills at all, he was just not built like THAT. What i think he could do is supervise a classical adaptation of his works including Death Wish 2 you know? He is a SUPERB Arranger!
I still laugh out loud when listening to the multitrack vocal take on WLL. I think it's about a 6 1/2 minute version and it cracks me up when Robert Plant yells out "timber" during the space sounding part of the song. Of course that timber part never got released but it sure sounds cool 👏 Thanks for another great and enjoyable video. Oh yeah, and one other thing I wanted mention. I remember the first time I noticed Jimmy Page kind of playing the WLL beginning rhythm before it was ever released. It was the 8/31/69 Texas International Pop Festival show where he starts out HMMT playing a portion of WLL. He just kind of throws it in there starting off the song and it flows perfectly. I'm going to have to go back and listen to that show again to make sure it was during HMMT. It's definitely one of the songs from that show. Brian in Fort Worth 🎶
He kinda teases the audience at Texas yes! It's a great way to shed light into things to come! Thank you very much for watching and stay tuned for Episode 2.
As a young man, I heard Whole Lotta Love and I was going almost 85 mph. Back then the speed limit on HWY 5 was 55 mph. It just took me over! ✌️😎 🎸 🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶
For those who want an RL Zep-II but don't have the funds...consider the 1977 US George Piros pressing SD19127. It's real close to the RL-SS. It's a true banger. Side note. The first Zep album and first Yes album (1969) on those 80s Atlantic cassettes have both have sides 1 and 2 reversed.
In my growing freedom of the mind stage of life. There was a particular evening when I was under the influence of a "red dragon" I decided to listen to "whole lotta love" with headphones on. And I swore that I heard sounds that you could not really recognize on the recording otherwise. And here and now, 50+ years later, I discover that those sounds were purposely embedded in the track by Jimmy Page. What a revelation!!!!! It's all true!! The sounds I heard were not "trip inspired random noises" Thank you for bringing this information to my attention. I owe this all to you! It is interesting that my first Beatles LP was the "White Album." So why wouldn't I enjoy " Whole lotta love? " It's just a natural progression ❤
Not random noises at all, the level of artistry behind the psychodellic voyage is still amazing to this day. I remember the first time i listened to Helter Skelter after Whole Lotta Love...i was like.....hmmm, yeah i should like it haha.
The part i enjoy the most lol (kidding). I'm always surprised to think of one but it's maybe a very personal tribute to comedian Norm McDonald and his recurring gags against Frank Stallone :)
Wanted to give you an update. Listening to the radio tonight...a Meatloaf song came on. I thought deeply about how much you would disapprove, so I changed the station in your honor. That's just how you roll bro. 🔥
Excellent stuff. I put Black Dog just ahead, but WLL is a very close second. I hope you'll be mentioning CCS's version - the beloved Top of the Pops theme for many a Brit.
‘Whole Lotta Love’ is the song that changed my life! It made me get serious with the guitar. The variant of the main guitar riff during the outro, where Jimmy Page adds the major third and perfect fourth, along with the root, perfect fifth and flatted seventh notes of the main riff, forms an outline of the E Mixolydian mode - one of the cornerstones of the blues idiom. Further, I agree; that John Bonham’s drumming throughout the track is the ultimate. And furthermore, if all that is not enough, my wife Cindy deliberately chose ‘Whole Lotta Love’ as our song! No complaints here. LOL! 💓💞👱🏼♀🎊🥂
Bonham’s signature sound comes from two things, firstly his work with triplets and secondly his ghost notes on the snare. This second technique is what gives him the swing and it’s this which many rock drummers do not do.
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Storieslovely work sir . Check out 60's era live Brubeck for total drumming sickness courtesy of Joe Morello. I very much like WLL , but for me , the solo on "for your life" is the essence of this realm . Part Beowulf , part zz top , it's absolute sword from the stone .
Great Video. I feel like the middle "noise" section was a tape edit mixed separately from the rest of the song. I remember as a kid listening to my uncles original pressing on headphones and the noise floor (tape his) changes a lot between these section and probable tape splice. I think this happens on Moby Dick too. Maybe? thanks again
While the middle section sounds like a different tape, the rhythm behind it was cut from the first recording session. Because they treated the middle section at a different studio, it does sound like a separate take for sure. What a landmark track right man? I hope you are doing well!
Great vid. And of course you're totally right about Jimmy's production. Often overlooked by those who do not hold badges. Anyway best live version? Not a contender, but i confess to rather enjoying the first night of Knebworth alternate riff.... 😅
First night at Knebworth does have a special magic to it, i can't blame you. Now i personally think Copenhagen's second night shares this as well, also being the premiere of the new arrangement. Thank you very much for watching!
Ouch Jose, now you messed with me talking about Whole Lotta Love. If STH is my anthem, WLL is my addiction. I confess, I'm addicted to this song hahaha I hear this riff several times a day, it's my smartphone's ringtone. In the playlist I listen to on my daily hike there are several versions, studio and live, in addition to isolated bass and drum tracks and just isolated drums. There's something powerful, inexplicable, sensual, almost wild in this song that awakens an unfathomable feeling, I could say it's the sound of the drums but it's not just that, it's the whole thing, Plant's voice and the way he sings, the impactful bass, the guitar... oh, the guitar. The seductive, carnal solo. The riff that sticks like glue... I love the feeling that the song is looping around my head. It was this song that drove my mum nuts when I was a child, because I used hashi (the sticks that Japanese people use to eat) as drumsticks and would bang on plates and glasses 😂 now I use a fork and knife to eat but I still feel like drumming on something when I hear Bonham punishing his drum kit 😂 I loved this episode Jose, I mean, everything you did was very well done, I’m always learning and discovering interesting things with you. Thank you, take care, see you soon 👋
Addiction is the right word for it Marcia, i agree. Listening to it turns your day into a celebration. How you describe the song is SPOT ON, i share your sentiments. Oh you played the beat as a child? I can imagine your Mom a bit tired of this track hahaha. My local jam band mates are SICK AND TIRED of me playing this all the time....sorry guys, i WILL keep on ROCKING. Always a pleasure to read your comments!
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories Playing wouldn’t be the right word in my case, I made a lot of noise, that’s all hahaha. I’d like to hear you playing WLL, is there a video about it?
I posted a BASS PLAYING video at music store and i kinda played WLL. But i need to find a drum kit and try it hehe. What a song....the world shines in hope when you listen to this track.
It's amazing what Zeppelin could produce in the studio, though could never repeat it LIVE. It's been said many times before that they would've sounded better if they had a 2nd Guitarist. JPJ's Bass never substituted for a Rhythm Guitar. I rest my case your Honour.
A second guitarist would've ruined their feel and approach to dynamics. Aerosmith needed it (no direspect), Zeppelin did not :) Thanks for watching Alan!
Bravo! THE MOTHERS OF INVENTION also parodied breifly " Hey Joe" on Were Only in it For the Money LP. I was aware Zeppelin settled out of court with Willie Dixon- I wonder what tgey paid besides giving credit????? It was Dixons daughter who noticed the similarities in the two songs.
Yet another fantastic video JCM !!! You are Professor Zeppelin !!! Zep did nick the melody - and the lyrics - from Muddy/Dixon, and took a little bit from Marriott also. They were buggers for thieving and should have given credit. Being "influenced by" and stealing are very different. The original Dixon/Muddy version has a tabla drum, and on the outro of Zeps version there are bongos underneath, maybe influenced by the Muddy version. Apparently, "Backdoor man" in the old blues songs means that as the husband leaves through the frontdoor the bit-on-the-side comes through the backdoor. Zep's version is one of my fave tracks ever too :)
I think the Small Faces should have been sued by the Dixon estate just to make it fair you know? I am tired of music fans calling Jimmy a thief for Whole Lotta Love...not fair....at all, the music was HIS. Backdoor yes, has different meanings hehe, i decided to do a PG-13 interpretation just for fun! Thank you very much for watching and stay tuned for Episode 2.
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories there's like ten million pages and stories that say April 1969, no? ua-cam.com/video/gD3wUIOdD_4/v-deo.html&ab_channel=CorusRadio
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories I know and have worked with Joe Walsh. If I have the opportunity I will ask where and when he got the guitar to Page. He did tell me the story of why he hustled Jimmy to buy the guitar. Walsh stated that he hated that guitar because the neck was shaved so thin. I can't recall if he had the neck shaved or it already was shaved when he got it. Could have been him that had it done and he just didn't like it. He said "I couldn't wait to get rid of that guitar!". I"ve also read some interviews where Walsh said he went to England and got the guitar to Jimmy after trying to sell to him in the U.S..
If it was April then he must have had a day off from James Gang to catch Zeppelin's West Coast shows and this part of the story has not been discussed. The main problem with April 24th....is that Page recorded WLL before.
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories I could swear I saw a Joe Walsh interview somewhere online where he talks about how he flew with it to SF and was worried the whole time it would be damaged en route
Trying to pick my favorite Zeppelin song gives me anxiety lol. I just can’t narrow it down but I think at gunpoint it’s probably a tie between Ten Years Gone or Kashmir.
Two cuts from Graffiti as your favorites, that's interesting, it does give a fan anxiety haha. Kashmir would be my favorite from those two! Whole Lotta Love has given me hope in very dark times! Thank you very much for watching and stay tuned for Episode 2.
Hey JCM! I did my share of telemarketing back in the day also - very good money and I knew we were legit because my Dad was the VP of Finance/Accounting. Zep is my alll time fave band also, but Elton is my all time fave artist. When needed - in situations like you mention here - I do go to Achilles, probably because Presence was the first Zep album I was able to buy when it came out. For Elton I listen to a stunning live version of Funeral For A Friend / Love Lies Bleeding. Either at max volume, of course.
You're a former telemarketer too? Those were the days right? The one i worked at was less legit lol....that's what they said at the office. Funeral for a Friend is AWESOME man. I agree, all these at MAX volume, or else, don't bother! haha
Page stated that he got the Les Paul from Walsh when Zeppelin played Fillmore East (end of Jan beg of Feb 1969). Page also says he used #1 on the track.
As I watch the NFL today, I can't help but notice while going for a two minute break of the game... I hear Robert Plant belting out the screams from the Immigrant song! From 1969 to 2024 Led Zeppelin is still popular in American football stadiums throughout the United States. One has to admit America helped to create the phenomenon that is "THE MIGHTY LED ZEPPELIN"
So cool they played Immigrant at the game. Led Zeppelin is an institution in America it seems. Glad it remains this popular! We need to keep the flame alive!
Maybe Jimmy Page took the idea from John Lee Hooker's "Drug store woman " released in 1961. The "Your time is gonna come" riff is similar to Dear Mr.Fantasy from Traffic, released in 1967. Also, I can hear this tune in John Mayall's " The laws must change " from the live Lp Turning point, released in July 1969.
actually "American woman" was in fact inspired by creams "i feel free", randy bachman has admitted to that, he says it on a youtube video, forget which one exactly, but no doubt it does sound similar to WLL, and i Love all three jams, but WLL is of course my fav, as zep is my fav band as well, always will be.
I can see where the melodic guitar line comes from I Feel Free but the rhythm work is Whole Lotta Love. Fascinating to hear Cream's song over Whole Lotta Love you basically get American Women. Thanks for pointing this out!

I’ll leave it there…
YESSSS! This was fantastic JCM 🤩
Thank you very much for watching and stay tuned for Episode 2.
Interesting stuff. You mentioned that Led Zeppelin made a “single?”
I never knew they actually made one.
I read somewhere that they made an agreement with each other, that they would never produce a single.
I’m not trying to refute your knowledge or research. You’re the man on this.
Atlantic records in America was able to override the wishes of the band. Kinda like what happened with The Beatles and Capitol records.
Yes I've got it. Living Loving Maid is on the B side. It has a full picture cover.
@@John_Locke_108 did Atlantic get sued for this?…or did they just say, screw it?
@@lifelongfan07 No. I think it was a different distribution contract in America. Or Zep didn't care because it was America and they cared more about Britain. 30 years ago I knew Zeppelin history like the back of my hand. But now I'm struggling to recall something simple like this. The truth might be a combination of they two.
There are several singles released in America actually, you have Immigrant Song/Hey Hey What Can I Do for example!
Amazing insight and details/your truly a Zeppelin expert.
Thank you very much for watching Mark, stay tuned for Episode 2, i will play some guitar too :)
Pure magic! Great job.
Thanks for watching man! Stay tuned for Episode 2!
Thanks again man you're the best! Your Patreon support is the backbone of this rock and roll research facility!
Oh! Missed this! Great stuff!
More to come!
man your videos are always a knockout and this was no exception. thank you!!! capture the vibe soooo well, and your lead ripped too!!
Glad you enjoyed it! Be sure to check out Episode 2 of the series ua-cam.com/video/6mCoXqRDfMw/v-deo.html
This was a really fun episode Jose. I loved your interpretation of the lyrics.
😂
Just brilliant.
Brilliant! The Most Menacing Groove in the History of Rock! Primal Raw Carnage!
Couldn't agree more! Bonham MAKES a song ROCK......and Rock....and Roll
I remember finding this in my mum and dads record collection one day when I was nine or ten and they were out. Put it on. Hahahaha. 😳😮🧨🔥🤯
And life was never the same hahaha, love it!
Brilliant, Jose....TY! Ernie
Always my pleasure Ernie!
Steve Marriott's voice.... Unbelievable.
He was the first guy they looked at.
Led Marriott. The great what if but Page was advised to forget about it or else he would face the wrath of Steve's owners....
Awesome
I really enjoyed this!! I will let it soak in for a few days, there is a lot to digest and talk about!!
You got it Kev! Thank YOU for watching!
Great work. Whole lotta love is certainly a rock classic worthy of a deep dive.
A song that will forever be a part of rock and roll's history!
I don’t know how you do it, but your videos keep getting better!
Thank YOU very much! I think i'm drinking more coffee, that may be a reason hehe.
My sister played whole lotta love for me when I was 5 years old and it totally blew my mind!
An unforgettable experience to listen to this song indeed!
I remember when the song came out, and I was only 3! I heard it a lot in the car with my folks, the AM radio edit. First time I heard the complete version, it blew my mind!!
It's a life changing song indeed!!!
Jimmy Page, was a musical Genius!
The likes of Mozart & Beethoven...
And it makes me wonder... what would Jimmy's Opera or a classical masterpiece sound like? 😮
He has to be considered as such because his vision was really unrivaled in rock and roll.
Your lyric breakdown was amazing.
Glad you enjoyed it! Robert was on a high intensity romantic endeavor on his storytelling!
Brilliant,thank you sir
Most welcome!
THis was great. I love your "explanation" of the lyrics ;)
Hehe thanks Mike! Analyzing Robert's lyrics like this, is quite an exercise, looking past the first layer!
14:43 never let anyone that playing bass with a pick is not natural !! cool video man, really learned a lot from this !!
I love playing bass with a pick, the feel and dynamics really change, you can explore SO much more right?
Great stuff brother.
Much appreciated Ron! Thanks for watching, stay tuned for Episode 2!
I still laugh out loud when listening to the multitrack vocal take on WLL. I think it's about a 6 1/2 minute version and it cracks me up when Robert Plant yells out "timber" during the space sounding part of the song. Of course that timber part never got released but it sure sounds cool 👏
Thanks for another great and enjoyable video.
He does it at Royal Albert Hall too - kinda at the Rosie part before the Hunter
He kinda teases the audience at Texas yes! It's a great way to shed light into things to come! Thank you very much for watching and stay tuned for Episode 2.
Awesome work Jose, My all time fav Zep song. It's got power, rhythm and undeniable sound that will forever be unmatched
Unmatched, absolutely. What a POWERHOUSE song right Keith! Thank you very much for watching and stay tuned for Episode 2.
Great Job JCM

You've just made my evening (that's what she said)😂👌👌
Haahahah the Michael Scott School of Business. Great reference. Thank YOU for watching. Stay tuned for part 2.
As a young man, I heard Whole Lotta Love and I was going almost 85 mph. Back then the speed limit on HWY 5 was 55 mph. It just took me over!
✌️😎 🎸 🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶
Well said Marion, it's a life changing tune!
There was a particular evening when I was under the influence of a "red dragon"
I decided to listen to "whole lotta love"
with headphones on.
And I swore that I heard sounds that you could not really recognize on the recording otherwise.
And here and now, 50+ years later, I discover that those sounds were purposely embedded in the track by Jimmy Page. What a revelation!!!!!
It's all true!! The sounds I heard were not "trip inspired random noises"
Thank you for bringing this information to my attention.
I owe this all to you!
It is interesting that my first Beatles LP was the "White Album."
So why wouldn't I enjoy " Whole lotta love? " It's just a natural progression ❤
Not random noises at all, the level of artistry behind the psychodellic voyage is still amazing to this day. I remember the first time i listened to Helter Skelter after Whole Lotta Love...i was like.....hmmm, yeah i should like it haha.
Incredible breakdown Jose. I also always love the Meatloaf digs😂
The part i enjoy the most lol (kidding). I'm always surprised to think of one but it's maybe a very personal tribute to comedian Norm McDonald and his recurring gags against Frank Stallone :)
@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories OJ Simpson was also always a favorite target of Norm's.
One of my favorites. RIP Mr. McDonald.
Oh yes. Murder is legal in the state of California. Norm was a true artist. I miss him.
Wanted to give you an update. Listening to the radio tonight...a Meatloaf song came on. I thought deeply about how much you would disapprove, so I changed the station in your honor. That's just how you roll bro. 🔥
Haha Erik that's one of the best things i can read. You contributed to your mental health by changing the station. I salute you for it.
Excellent stuff. I put Black Dog just ahead, but WLL is a very close second. I hope you'll be mentioning CCS's version - the beloved Top of the Pops theme for many a Brit.
I will mention it yes, can't wait to share Episode 2 :) Black Dog is a great song too, the studio version has a SPECIAL FEEL!
LOL! 💓💞👱🏼♀🎊🥂
What a great anniversary song haha, love it! Hope you are doing well man!
fun stuff
Bonham’s signature sound comes from two things, firstly his work with triplets and secondly his ghost notes on the snare. This second technique is what gives him the swing and it’s this which many rock drummers do not do.
Hell yeah the ghost notes are crucial. I could listen to isolated drumming All day long :)
I know because I was one of these drummers.
How the West Was Won is my favorite version... because it has Hello Mary Lou in it
For me, it's Goin' Down Slow
Mary Lou 1972 sounded GREAT, i agree!
It was this song that drove my mum nuts when I was a child, because I used hashi (the sticks that Japanese people use to eat) as drumsticks and would bang on plates and glasses 😂 now I use a fork and knife to eat but I still feel like drumming on something when I hear Bonham punishing his drum kit 😂
I loved this episode Jose, I mean, everything you did was very well done, I’m always learning and discovering interesting things with you.
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories
Playing wouldn’t be the right word in my case, I made a lot of noise, that’s all hahaha. I’d like to hear you playing WLL, is there a video about it?
I posted a BASS PLAYING video at music store and i kinda played WLL. But i need to find a drum kit and try it hehe. What a song....the world shines in hope when you listen to this track.
Ledzep 2 is my favourite
It's killer start to finish!
13:04 ... woah is the breakdown in 7/4?? Never noticed that before! 🤯🤯🤯
Oh no this was me just cutting some of the audio to summarize it hehe it's all 4/4 really!
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories ah cool, was losing my mind a little, heheh. Great essay, looking forward to the rest!
Zeppelin paid Dixon at least. Shameful that HIS own label CHESS screwed him over. I need to check out the MOTHERS version!!
I enjoyed, um, every inch of this and can't wait for the sequel
the #1 was purchased from Joe Walsh for $500 in SF, April 1969
Cant be April as they played the US past the recording of WLL. Page stated in his book that he got it before :)
I agree, all these at MAX volume, or else, don't bother! haha
Well hands down my favorite zepp song is Achilles.. and presence was the last album I just turned on to. . If I could I would buy Jimmy a pint
Page stated that he got the Les Paul from Walsh when Zeppelin played Fillmore East (end of Jan beg of Feb 1969). Page also says he used #1 on the track.
Then this took place con February 1st at The Fillmore East! Most likely!
Excellent work here and I’m particularly impressed that you’ve separated out the tracks. What software did you use?
It's actually a bootleg that surfaced back in 2012, the multitracks were unearthed. You can find them in several forums, a MUST have!
Stereo Atomic Bomb ! Classic.
The Effect Is Shattering...!!!
I like the sound of Plant’s voice in the rough mix better.
It's clearer for sure, interesting how Page liked reverb and sort of light and shade the mix in post!
As I watch the NFL today, I can't help but notice while going for a two minute break of the game... I hear Robert Plant belting out the screams from the Immigrant song! From 1969 to 2024 Led Zeppelin is still popular in American football stadiums throughout the United States.
One has to admit America helped to create the phenomenon that is
"THE MIGHTY LED ZEPPELIN"
So cool they played Immigrant at the game. Led Zeppelin is an institution in America it seems. Glad it remains this popular! We need to keep the flame alive!
The recording of the shaker makes the swing -- which I never noticed -- obvious.
It does make it swing right? Interesting how it's much more prominent on the third chorus, almost as if they waited not to over do the effect!
🌠⭐👅 GENE SIMMONS SAYS ......OH YEAH !!!
So maybe Traffic was inspired by the Hey Joe Riff from Tim Rose's 1966 cover. I can see Drug Store Woman as inspiration. Fascinating references!
Why beefing the djent for free? hahaha. Amazing chapter, Calvian.
Señor Jhon thank you very much, beefing the djent :) hahahaha
actually "American woman" was in fact inspired by creams "i feel free", randy bachman has admitted to that, he says it on a youtube video, forget which one exactly, but no doubt it does sound similar to WLL, and i Love all three jams, but WLL is of course my fav, as zep is my fav band as well, always will be.
I can see where the melodic guitar line comes from I Feel Free but the rhythm work is Whole Lotta Love. Fascinating to hear Cream's song over Whole Lotta Love you basically get American Women. Thanks for pointing this out!
Queen's version is "Get Down Make Love".
Absolutely! Queen wanted some of that Zepp sound!
22:38 Wow. I Can hear it.
Jimmy was a huge Jimi Hendrix fan you can tell. He took note of the production side of things, thus why he was a genius with Zeppelin!
Epic JCM…one point…I don’t think “back door” means what you think it does…
Remember what Robert sang on Stairway about words having two meanings lol. Some things better left unsaid !
Page probably got the idea for defining the strings from Syd Barret, who also used ball bearings on the strings and the mirrors on his Esquire.
Detuning
That's quite a fascinating angle, Page admired Syd, so it makes sense!
I don’t think the people in Stevenage can hear you. Knebworth Aug 4th 1979 and I was there 👍 wonderful
A classic Robert Plant moment, love the references to the cities. CHEERS Paul! So lucky you WERE at the actual concert!
In the music business everybody borrows from everybody. Why Zeppelin got singled out for doing that is beyond me.
Right dan? Why were The Small Faces free of charge for doing the same thing with Willie Dixon's lyrics?
