@@PinkPopcast Also the headlights shining through mom's eyes in the end was part of the story Luke was telling in AA, when he was a kid he used to wait up at night and look out the window thinking his mother would come back. 'Those headlights were the worst.' He said, because it gave him false hope. Poor lad was only 6 years old. Sorry Benji it had nothing to do with the porch light.

Okay so the ~twin thing~ comes back into the episode. Y’a know how Luke keeps looking and feeling worse throughout the episode?? Yeah so he is essentially feeling nells death. He talks about feeling stiff and cold cause y’a know Mike Flanagan is evil and wants us to suffer

The moment we realize that luke being cold and acting weird on the first episode wasn't because he was going through withdraw or abstinence. It was because he was sensing his twin's death...
The "no. it wasn't." really, really got me when i first watched it... still does. Luke feeling Nell being dead but not knowing that's what it is... man...
2:42 Apparently I did as a kid. I named him Bill and would always 'play' with him. My mom said I scared her shitless one time because I woke her up in the middle of the night saying I was looking for Bill and was finally like "Oh, I found him" while staring into her dark open closet.
Funnily enough, I don't remember anything about any of this at all but I was also like 4 so...

My mom is from Louisiana and she don't play that mess. If I told her I saw something, we would've been gone. Ain't no house worth that kind of trauma.

The one of the many things I liked about this show is that it shows how trauma Affects people in different ways, they all lived in that house and they all lost their mom but each of them took it differently and it shows that we really can’t see what someone is going through until it’s to late or they (as Benji put it) COMMUNICATE!
But that is easier said than done.

These kids seemed well adjusted before all the ghost shit. If my well-adjusted child starts screaming about evil scary ghosts that rip your shirt, WE'RE MOVING OUT NOW. Also, Theo and Shirley both screamed at the same time about the same thing (banging on the walls) so like...what's not to believe????? Kids don't scream like that for no reason, they just don't. Even if you think it's just Casper the friendly ghost, KIDS DON'T SCREAM LIKE THAT FOR NO GOOD REASON FFS MOVE OUT

There's a lot of lines that reference other 'haunting' movies like "The Haunting" and the 1959 movie "House on Haunted Hill".

For around 10 years I was trying to remember some horror/supernatural show I watched when I was 6 or so late at night. My memories of it were "red house", old gates and a car in front of it at the end of the movie, a greenhouse with round staircase, a group of people who couldn't leave the house. I was convinced I watched it for several nights but as it turns out I didn't.
2 days ago I realized it was not a show but a movie, The Haunting from 1999.
That "red house" really strayed me away.
That movie is so bad but still fun!!!

On a serious note, of all the kids in this series, I feel most sorry for Luke, what he experienced in that house really tormented him for life. And yeah, F the parents for playing dumb in this series. I have 3 kids and I only need one to tell me if something is not adding up. I understand they're flipping the house and there's probably a big chunk of money at stake. But if we're talking about our own kids here...anything that's economic related like money can be recovered, but trauma and death, that's always final.

Hugh, the dad, I think is the main reason they didn't leave the house. He thinks his wife is a little crazy (in the cute way) but doesn't believe she actually sees things. He also thinks his wife is influencing the kids to believe they see things so he believes the kids even less. He just thinks they being "quirky" like their mom. The mom on her part is so used to being called crazy and every other diminutive that she just accepted it and doesn't expect anyone to believe her. So, while she believes her kids, she doesn't expect anyone else to believe them which is why she doesn't ask Hugh to leave and she even asks Theo to keep her glove thing secret from her dad etc. She basically doesn't want her husband to think she's any crazier than he already does and keeping that status quo is more important than fully validating her kids Ig.

Actually, in many scenes there are ghosts hidden, some are very obvious and others have a hard time finding them

I read that each kid and their designated episode represents the five stages of grief. Steven = denial, Shirley = anger, Theo = bargaining, Luke = depression, and Nell = acceptance. Honestly made me look at the entire series in a whole new light.

When the floating ghost with the hat showed up, I literally had to pause for 10 minutes before gaining the courage to continue watching. I almost just skipped it entirely from being so scared.
My heart breaks for Luke, he suffered so much and when he realize Nell's dead. The only other sibling who still believed in him in some way
I don't know how I watched this ish alone...except there were a few times that I intentionally started a text convo with someone just to take myself out of the movie a bit. 😅😅😅
But I loved the realization that this series is so much more than a scary show. It's a work of damn art! ❤
Such a heavy and emotional episode. It's always torn me up. (My late partner was an addict.) You guys injected some great humor but also ended with some much appreciated gravitas. Many thumbs up. Side note: yeah, bent-neck lady is creepy AF, but the tall guy with the hat has always been the scariest one for me. The first time I watched this back in 2018, that MF'er showed up in my nightmares several nights.
